Good Morning, Colorado, you're listening to the Daily Sun-Up with the Colorado Sun. It's Friday July 30th.   Today - The writer and artist behind The Colorado Sun's weekly comic strip, “What'd I Miss?”. It's the story of a white woman who woke up from a coma. Her younger, Black neighbor gets her back up to speed on what's going on in the world.   But before we begin, let's go back in time with some Colorado history adapted from historian Derek R Everett's book “Colorado Day by Day”:   Today, we take you back to July 30th, 1861 when a twenty five year old Missourian named Samuel Clemens - known later as Mark Twain - paused in Julesburg for an hour to change stagecoaches. He was traveling west with his brother that summer to escape the Civil War in his home state.   Now, our feature story.   Meet the writer and artist behind The Colorado Sun's weekly comic strip, “What'd I Miss?”, the story of a white woman who woke up from a coma and is catching up on the world from her younger, Black neighbor.  Alan Brooks and Cori Redford will be at our in-person event this Sunday at 4 p.m. at the Mutiny Information Cafe in Denver. John Haubert was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of attempted first-degree assault, second-degree assault and menacing. The video captured him striking Kyle Maurice Vinson with his pistol, choking him and threatening to kill him. Haubert was responding to a trespassing call on July 23.    The death of a 12-year-old boy who was struck by a vehicle after he ran away from a youth treatment center will be the first child fatality reviewed under a new system announced by the state child protection ombudsman. Ombudsman Stephanie Villafuerte said she intends to fill the gap left by other child fatality review systems in the state that do not result in publicly accessible reports that could help save children's lives. About 40% of child abuse deaths in Colorado do not get a review that results in public recommendations or information.    Colorado's top health official testified in Denver District Court this week in a whistleblower case filed against the state health department. Agency director Jill Hunsaker Ryan was called to the witness stand to explain the firing of the health department's former head of disease control, Tony Cappello. Cappello says he was fired in retaliation for disclosing financial mismanagement of the HIV program. Hunsaker Ryan said she didn't understand the implications of legal guidance regarding HIV spending.    Colorado has issued an ozone health warning every day since July Fifth. And the state has had 37 Ozone Action Alert Days already in 2021. What does it mean? Pollution and high heat are creating problems almost daily for those with respiratory issues, and even for healthy people who exercise at the worst part of the day. The narcissistic personality disorder to end all narcissistic personality disorders, and the mother fixation to end all mother fixations. Both just amped up to eleven and beyond. But, he certainly makes it work, doesn't he? You honestly can't tell me if you dropped the comic book version of Doom into the real world, not only would he not be out of place among the pack of sideshow clowns who have been running the world since the fall of communism, but he'd be among the most revered leaders in the world for his effectiveness in providing for his citizens. And I wonder if it's the rare instance of an NPD being used for good. Latervians canonically have a first world standard of living. Universal education, free healthcare, little to no pollution, no crime to speak of, and an economy that's as thriving as a country subject to constant embargoes from the United States can be. Moreover, every single one of his citizen matters to him, the same as if they were extensions of himself, which -- let's face it -- is probably how he views them. If you're a farmer with a crop blight problem, Doom will personally come to your farm, figure out what's causing it, eradicate it, and supply you with a new proprietary super-effective soil nutrient solution he devised in the shower that morning. If you leave the country, there's literally nowhere you can't go to and come back from safely. The Latverian passport is just a card that says "Admit this person into your country or suffer the wrath of DOOM." It's never once been questioned. If you harm even a single hair on a Laterivan citizen's head, Doom will personally track you across the entire universe, through time, or across dimensions and force you to make restitution. Now, obviously, he does this because it's an affront to his unquenchable ego for everything in his country to not be the greatest in all of creation. But -- and this might be delving into the PoliSci angle a bit -- in 2021, would anyone really care why he did it? His country is fed, clothed, housed, educated, productive, and healthy. Yes, he wants to conquer the world (and really, everything beyond it, but we'll start with the world), but it's because he genuinely believes that humanity is being deprived of the benefits they would have under his magnanimous rule, and I'm sure it legitimately breaks his heart.As a psychologist, how would you even start getting through to him? What kind of circumstances would you need? He's got to be one of the toughest nuts to crack in any comic book universe. DO YOU COMPARE YOUR DEGREE WITH THE MIGHT OF DOOM? What? No! Of course not! - A WISE MOVE. NONE CAN MATCH THE WISDOM AND BRILLIANCE OF DOOM. NOT EVEN RICHARDS, ALTHOUGH HE WOULD NEVER ADMIT IT. I think that's record time for someone to bring up a personal nemesis without prompting- NEMESIS? NO. RICHARDS IS NOT WORTHY OF SUCH A TITLE, NOR THE BRAINPOWER IT WOULD REQUIRE TO DEEM HIM SO. DOOM WINS OR LEARNS. *under breath* That would explain the oodles of wisdom -WHAT WAS THAT? Nothing. I wanted to learn from your wisdom, then. How have encounters with someone like Richards educated you from an emotional intelligence standpoint? - DOOM'S EMOTIONS PLAY LITTLE ROLE IN THE DECISIONS THAT NEED TO BE MADE. LATVERIANS REQUIRE A RULER TO FOCUS ON THEIR WELL-BEING, NOT IMMATURE CONTESTS. WHICH DOOM WOULD WIN ANYWAY. In that case, heavy is the head that wears the crown...er, mask. How do you manage the stress of being the sole decision maker for a whole country? - THERE IS NO STRESS. MY CITIZENS DESERVE THE BEST. THAT IS WHAT THEY SHALL HAVE. DOOM CARES NOT FOR WHAT OTHER NATIONS PROVIDE FOR THEIR PEOPLE. But do you always know what's best? What if -YES. THE ONLY ONE IN WHICH HUMANITY SURVIVES AND THRIVES IS THAT WHICH DOOM CONTROLS. THE WORLD IGNORES THIS AT ITS OWN PERIL. The world ignores a lot of things, all of the time. Each person has their own idea of what is most important to them at each moment. What you are asking for is the world to recognize you as the most important thing at some moment. You tell me...based on one in a...whatever number of scenarios, with a population of billions, each with their own free will, most with no knowledge of the things you speak, and the odds of winning a genetic lottery to be born in the country you rule...for someone with the largest aspirations known on the planet, you really sell yourself short in the marketing department! - DOOM DOES NOT SELL ANYTHING SHORT. DOOM IS NO MERE CARNIVAL BARKER. THERE IS NO OVERSTATEMENT OR EXAGGERATION INVOLVED. DOOM MERELY SPEAKS FACTS. THE WORLD IS IN GRAVE DANGER UNLESS FEALTY IS SWORN. YOU SPEAK OF DOOM'S DISREGARD FOR HUMANITY AND FREE WILL. IT IS BORNE OF AN OVERWHELMING LOVE FOR HUMANITY ABOVE ALL ELSE THAT DRIVES DOOM. I know you are wise enough to look at someone else's perspective, so take mine: if multiple people claim they are number one at the same thing, and with the same conviction, then how do I discern what is fact versus narcissistic conjecture? I legitimately want your guidance on this. - DOOM IS NUMBER ONE BECAUSE DOOM WILLS IT TO BE SO. IN ADDITION, LATVERIA'S STANDARD OF LIVING IS PROOF OF DOOM'S MAGNANIMOUS NATURE. I’ve been going to this little sandwich shop in my neighborhood lately. It’s got a garden in the back and it’s usually pretty empty so I can take my mask off and write back there fairly easily. I never went pre-covid because it had table service and I didn’t really want a sandwich. But since I returned to Queens after almost two months away, I’ve been going a couple of times a week. It’s always the same people behind the counter and sometimes they seem to remember me and sometimes not. This last time, it was as if I’d never been there before and it strikes me that with everyone in masks, we are all a lot less recognizable than we used to be. We’re all just these eyes over cloth – and if we change the cloth every day like we should, we look like a different person every day. Season 2 Episode 2 of the Story of Rock and Roll Radio Show was great fun indeed.  It aired at midnight 10 Jan 2020 and right from the start everything felt good.  Once again I was stuck by Time Dysplasia Panic Disorder i.e TDPD  at 01h06 when I realized I had 34 songs to play and enough time for only 13.         The show opened with a jolt of good times rock and roll courtesy of Sebastian Bach and the fun didn't stop for the next two hours.  One of the highlights was definitely Neil Young's Revolution Blues, it's amazing how the environment has changed in the last 46 years, lines like  “Well, I hear that Laurel Canyon is full of famous stars, But I hate them worse than lepers and I'll kill them in their cars” would probably upset some and lead to accusations of promoting mass shootings these days.  The show took a further turn for the violent after that with Halestorm's hard-hitting 'I Miss the Misery', My Chemical Romance's 'Thank You For the Venom' and an acoustic rock masterclass from Guns ‘n' Roses with One in a Million.  The other highlight was the emotional tragedy that is Danger Line by Avenged Sevenfold, the whole song changes at about 3:20 with the heartbreaking “Tell my baby girl that it's alright, I've sung my last song tonight” and then Syn Gates' solo and the harmony guitar with Zakky before M. Shadows' outro whistling.  Goosebumps or you ain't human.   Rory Gallagher live was another one, unbelievable guitar sound, or as one listener said “so raw”, it feels like you are in the crowd at that show.  We started with drinking and ended with drinking, Jeff Beck with Rod Stewart's show closer was sublime.   Artists featured on Episode 202 included:  Megadeth, Ryan Adams, Autograph, Jeff Beck, ACDC, Badlands, Iron Maiden, Buckcherry, Halestorm, Newsted, Rammstein, Saxon, The Sex Pistols, My Chemical Romance, Deep Purple, The Damned, Neil Young, Whitesnake, Sammy Hagar, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Avenged Sevenfold, The Damned Things, Greta Van Fleet, Rory Gallagher, Guns ‘n' Roses & Sebastian Bach
