The Championship completely flipped the script this week as Ipswich leap-frogged everyone into first place. Three teams are separated by a point each. League 1 could be decided this week as Pompey gets ready to host Derby, it would seem the playoff is mostly decided too. In League 2 Stockport has moved back into 1st as Wrexham beat Mansfield but it's looking like all three are heading to automatic promotion. www.Dufootballshow.com   Facebook @DUfootballshow Instagram @DUfootballshow Twitter @DUfootballshow YouTube @DUfootballshow

Kieran & Gary start this week's show by addressing the alleged racist incident that marred the First Division game between Kerry FC and Longford Town last Friday. The pair highlight issues they have with the Longford Town response so far and some of the social media reaction over the past few days.  On the football front, the lads discuss Stephen Kenny's future (or perhaps lack of one as Ireland manager) following another damaging week for the Boys in Green.  In League of Ireland-related matters, there is a full First Division review, previews of this weekend's league and cup action and we've also got audio with Ruaidhrí Higgins & Shane McEleney ahead of a blockbuster clash between Derry City and Shamrock Rovers.  Sponsored by QuinnAv.ie

Welcome to episode 144 of Activist #MMT. Today's part two of a three-part conversation with historian, author, and Harvard master's graduate, Emily Ruhl, on her new paper and master's thesis, In League with the Devine: How Religion Influenced Nazi Perpetrators of the Holocaust. You will find my detailed question list at the bottom of the show notes for part one. Also, be sure to see the list "audio chapters" in all three parts (look below!) to find exactly where each topic is discussed. A full introduction can be found at the beginning of part one, but for now, let's get right back to my conversation with Emily Ruhl. Enjoy. Audio chapters 2:43 - German pseudo-religion: three parts: anti-Semitism, Blut und Boden (blood and soil), and Volksgemeinschaf (the German worldview) 3:50 - Racism is an impossible concept. The only way to preserve the German Aryan theory is to exterminate anyone not "definitely" Aryan. 7:21 - The order in which you kill changes it from murder to sanctioned by God 11:12 - Religion is both coercion and a salve once what they were coerced to do is done. 20:31 - The biggest bias in sources is the power of those who created (wrote, filmed, etc.) it. 29:21 - "No punishment" for those refusing to kill, but only if they didn't threaten the regime. 30:12 - Religious symbols: pins (SS lightning bolts), belt buckles, architecture, white doctors coats. 44:28 - Symbols in architecture 48:59 - Different levels of Nazis: killing versus deciding who to kill (doctors, commandants, soldiers) 55:30 - Duplicate of introduction, with no background music (for those with sensitive ears)

On today's episode of In League with the NRL: We take a glance at the selections of both teams for the first match in this year's State of Origin series, and ponder over whether New South Wales has once again given Queensland a free kick with the team they have selected. Is form now not a pre-requisite for being picked, but merely a happy coincidence if the players chosen are also the best in their position? Then we cast our eye over several of the decisions made on the field over the past weekend in the NRL, and talk about the influence the bunker now has on the game, and the indiscretion that is shown in not only deciding what incidents have precedence in regards to either being a reportable and sin-binning offence and those that get a free pass and are not acted on until after the match has been concluded. And, what influence this is having on the eventual results of the match. That's the program for today on the least informed rugby league podcast episodes on the intraweb, In League with the NRL, on Thoughts from the Metal Cavern.

On today's episode of In League with the NRL, we have a change of format to try and streamline exactly where we are going with this part of the podcast. Today we discuss the hip drop tackle and just what direction the lawmakers what to take with it, and also discuss other rules that have had a rush of rulings in a four week period before being dismissed without a thought forever again. Then we have a look at the draw for Magic Round, and wonder why the Brisbane-based teams seem to have an away game when they are playing at home. And finally we look back at the ladder at the time of the previous two Magic Rounds, and if they offer any insights as to how the 2023 premiership may be panning out. Welcome to episode 143 of Activist #MMT. Today I talk with historian, author, and Harvard master's graduate, Emily Ruhl, on her new paper and master's thesis, In League with the Devine: How Religion Influenced Nazi Perpetrators of the Holocaust. This is the first of a three-part episode. You will find my full and detailed question list at the bottom of today's show notes. Also, be sure to see the list "audio chapters" in all three parts to find exactly where each topic is discussed. (Here are links to parts two and three. A list of the audio chapters in this episode can be found right below [above the full-question list].) (In order to preserve both my podcast and sanity as I proceed through the Torrens graduate program, I've decided to slow my podcast from one episode a week to once a month.) The Nazi Party started by trying to resist and reject all religion, but soon, religion became a fundamental part of the Party's strategy of coercing and propagandizing everybody, from members of the public, to the highest ranking figures in both religious and political institutions, into accepting the brutal and systematic murder of eleven-million souls. The Nazi religion took elements of Christianity, Protestantism, and Paganism, to make one geared not to brotherly love, but primarily to erasing non-Aryans from the Earth. This Nazi pseudo-religion served both as coercion – you must kill the unworthy, or at least stand back while others do – and also as a salve, to come to terms with what you've just done. As you'll hear in the cool quote for part two (the first minute before the opening music), that salve can make the difference between sanity and insanity, and life and death. The Nazi's didn't want to murder eleven million people, they had to, because God said they had to. It was "unfortunate, but necessary." My primary goal for this interview is to demonstrate how this is parallel to mainstream economics, which is also a tool to justify suffering, this time in the form of austerity. Instead of a gun to the head at point blank range, austerity is mass deprivation and exploitation, resulting in a slow and torturous death by despair, starvation, exposure, and untreated sickness and injury – not to mention wasted potential. We currently have the ability to provide all with what they desperately need, including healthcare, education, decent food and shelter, un-poisoned water, and breathable air. As illuminated by Kate Raworth's doughnut, if we are to continue existing as a species, then we must provide the desperate with what they most desperately need. At the same time, we also have to stop the very few on top from using the vast majority of our precious and limited resources to needlessly lavish themselves. Unfortunately, we are instead digging ourselves into an even deeper ecological crisis, when we should be getting off fossil fuels entirely, and restructuring society so we don't require as much. On our current path, in the not-too-distant future, it may indeed become unfortunate but necessary to choose who must be deprived in order for the rest to live. Of course, given our obscene and still growing inequality, the most powerful few will be the ones to make those decisions, and the least powerful many will be the sacrificed. This is the lifeboat economics of the tragedy of the tragedy of the commons. Instead of the around eleven million murdered by the Nazi Party, mainstream economics is little more than a religion to justify what may ultimately result in the death of not millions, but billions. Austerity is genocide at a slower pace. As if riding in a bus hurtling towards a cliff, we as a species currently face a binary choice, between having a terrible accident, and plunging off into oblivion. As Mark Twain said, "History never repeats itself, but it does often rhyme." There is still time to learn from that history. We can choose another path. On a completely unrelated side note, while attending her master's program, writing her master's thesis and working full time, Emily also wrote… an entire fantasy novel. You can find out more about it, and read the entire first chapter, at her website, emilyruhlbooks.com. In order to preserve both my podcast and my sanity as I proceed through Torrens University and Modern Money Lab's graduate program in MMT and ecological economics (

Welcome back to this week's uninformed wrap of Week 3 of the NRL. On this week's episode, we discuss just how jammy the NRL is, with their blockbuster Friday night clash being the first home derby between the Broncos and the Dolphins - and it ends up being a top of the table clash. Then we discuss the ludicrously thought out decision of Mitchell Moses and his management trying to up his asking price with the Eels and the Tigers by trying to suggest that the Roosters were interested in entering the fray. And we take a look at just how the Tigers have begun the season, and how a possible Easter Monday clash could be between two clubs without a victory on the board. And to finish off, I offer my uninformed tips for Round 4, so you can put a line through them in your tipping comp. That's this week's agenda on In League with the NRL, on the podcast with little to no rugby league credibility, Thoughts from the Metal Cavern.

The league season has arrived, and already the sponsors boxes have exploded with grief over where rugby league might be headed in 2023. On today's first episode of 2023 (yes it's round two but we've been a little busy here in podcast land), we talk about the surprise packets of the first two rounds of the competition, and sicuss whether or not they may be flashes in the pan or the real deal. Then we unpack just where the Tigers are after their amusing attempts to get back in the game, and whether or not they can come back from the depths they have sunk to. This week the NRL suggested that they were looking to become a 20 team competition in the near future, and we discuss the logistical nightmare that that would cause, and offer some suggestions as to the only way it could happen if it was going to work. The Dragons have come out and asked 1500 of their members and fans what they would think about a change in name and identity. We run the rule over their thoughts and laugh out loud at what the only true solution to that problem is. And then you can revel in the laughability that is my tips for round three, and offer you those teams you can immediately put a line through. Yes, it's 2023, and this is In League with the NRL, right here on Thoughts from the Metal Cavern.

Episode 74 - Mayhem in Marseille After a tense final round of Champions League games for Spurs, they managed to get the result they needed in Marseille to book their place in the last 16, but Sam is concerned by his side's performances in recent weeks. Only two months after leaving Brighton, Graham Potter took his Chelsea team back to the AMEX, but a 4-1 defeat was definitely not the return he was looking for. Tommy goes through some tactical gripes he has with the Blues. With Liverpool dropping more points last weekend we discuss whether they can still get a top 4 finish, and we also debate whether Newcastle are genuine contenders. In League 1, Ipswich grabbed a 4-2 lead in stoppage time…but couldn't hold on as Charlton snatched a 4-4 draw in dramatic circumstances! Alex discusses the debacle of the extra time, and gives his assessment on Town's start to the campaign. Sam hosts this week's Forgotten Footballer, and this week's draft focuses on ‘Unhappy Returns'

Another round of footy is behind us, and with it an increasing injury toll that is beginning to affect some clubs as they look to push towards both the Origin period and their ability to play finals in 2022. We also came to learn that the obstruction rule is not as black-and-white as the NRL may have led us to believe, and that the sin-bin is having a much greater influence on matches now than it ever has before. On today's program we'll go over the results of the eight matches played, and sort out the good from the average. Today's Talking Point has a look at the fast approaching Origin series, and discusses whether it is as brilliant and world stopping as the NRL and Channel 9 would have us believe it is. Round 1 is done and dusted, and if you tip like I do it was a barren and broken wasteland of rugby league. And let's face face, it is only round one. You can't win the comp or even lose the comp in the first round, and in many ways you can hardly judge how a team is going to finish the season on their performance in their first true matchup of the season. And there are a lot of clubs who will be looking for forgiveness from their head coaches and their fans after this weekend's games. So let's look back at those matches, and see if they offered us anything in the crystal ball for the 2022 NRL premiership. Then we'll get into this week's Talking Point, and let's discuss just where we sit with the obstruction rule in rugby league at the moment, and whether it could be administered better to give a fairer assessment on its impact on results through the year. And then we'll take a look at next weekend's fixtures and see if we can find a few more winners than I managed this weekend. All of that is coming up on the World's least informed NRL podcast. Most of the time the focus is on the top teams in both the NFL and Dynasty Owner. Last week, the five undefeated Dynasty Owner teams were profiled here, but there's no suspense about those teams making the Dynasty Owner playoffs since all of them have already clinched a spot. The top NFL teams will likely get flexed into the Sunday Night Football match-up over the next few weeks. For example, the Week 13 game between the AFC West division leading Kansas City Chiefs was moved to be played on Sunday night. The game featuring two teams in the battle for an AFC Wild Card (Bengals vs. Chargers) was not flexed into prime time. It can happen in Dynasty Owner as well. A few of our 2020 League Winners weren't one of the top two teams and had to play in the first round of the playoffs. Some were even the #5 or #6 seed. In League #28274, B3lowradar made the playoffs at 7-6, but ended up defeating the top three seeds to win their League title. The Swamp Rats in League #35109 entered the playoffs as the #5 seed with a 7-6 record, but toppled the #2 seed in the finals to win. Those are just two examples, and we are likely to see more of them in 2021. If your Dynasty Owner team won last year as a #5 or #6 seed with a 7-6 or 6-7 record, let me know and I'll mention it on Twitter.-------------------------------------------------------What is Dynasty Owner? This episode originally aired as the Patreon bonus episode for September 2017. The original description follows: Oh man, where to start with this bizarre song. As decided by many of you, I was tasked with writing a song about Dante's aversion to clothing. Honestly, I couldn't have been happier, so good job! In League, Dante really likes to tear his clothes off. I don't know how or why I came up with this character convention but it happened for better or worse. It's worked so far in game so it's probably here to stay. Anyways, for the lyrics, I had to incorporate some fun events where the clothes tearing actually worked (sort of). During the fight with Dracula, Dante tore off his clothes and successfully stole his cape! During the League's stay in Westeros, there was a "romantic" rendezvous between Dante and Mordin, which, you guessed it! Involved Dante striking a bare ass pose. For the music, I knew I had to do something strange. For the intro, I tried to emulate Sir Mix a Lot's "Baby Got Back" because I figured Dante probably thinks that is how people view him, the egomaniac! For the rest of the song, I tried to emulate Devil May Cry's hard rock soundtracks. I knew it had to be loud and crazy and full of distortion. Thank you for listening. -Liz LYRICS for "A Body of Art...Work" Oh my God, have you seen Dante? His abs are like, so defined. Oh my God, how do you know that? Oh my God, how do you know that? Because he never wears a shirt silly! Because he never wears a shirt silly! Why would you want to hide it? Don't you want to find it? I'm basically beautiful, And I've got a beard, that's important. Things, kilts, footie pajamas, red coat, white shirt, black pants, big boots, I hate it all! That's right, you heard me, I hate it all! This is getting too long now and I don't know what to say anymore, LET'S GO! TEAR IT OFF! I've tried tank tops, I've tried coats and pants and those sweet ass boots. Try a sock? I think not. Nothing quite compares to that wind up my derriere! And it looks really nice, I mean, I've been told that before, I believe it, uh anyways uh, moving on. No one can resist my super good looking nakedness. So why wear clothes, when I can strike a bare ass pose? You cannot stop it, I know you like it, don't be ashamed because I cannot blame you. I'm going to do my part, because my body is pure art! TEAR IT OFF! My power is increased, when my clothing is deceased. Go ask Dracula. My shining chest, is just the best. Go ask Mordana. I can't really talk well, but I'm really good at tearing shit off. Clothes just suck a bunch, and I'd rather wear my lunch...ABLES! Oh my God, Dante.

Was spielt ein Pro? After two league games and one cup game, it's time to take a glance at the initial takeaways from the new EFL season, and look back at how the pre-season predictions are going... (Mixed.) QPR, Fulham, Huddersfield and Bristol City get their due praise in the Championship pod - but we fear for a few teams at the bottom. In League 1, there are some surprise teams in the mix early on, and what are Sheff Utd and Charlton doing down there? And in League 2, the Bees and the Hatters are top dogs, but weren't Orient supposed to be good? The pod finishes with a blooper that's well worth the wait - a seminal NTT20 moment. iTunes: itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/not-t…d1112915286?mt=2 Twitter: twitter.com/NTT20Pod Soundcloud: @ntt20pod Intro Music: 'Where Do You Wanna Go?' by New Carnival itunes.apple.com/gb/album/where-d…453?i=1048907676 Jingles by Setuniman: www.freesound.org/people/Setuniman/sounds/134038/ www.freesound.org/people/Setuniman/sounds/155658/
