This week on the podcast, we have the honor of going on a true audio journey when Chef Erik of the Los Angeles Mission joins Chef Alisa. Chef Erik gives us a glimpse into how he became a chef feeding thousands of people every week, and his path is definitely one with a couple of turns. From his time as a child learning how to make cinnamon toast to his crash course in Creole-inspired cuisine, Chef Erik always had a natural inclination for food. He highlights that he did not fully embrace becoming a chef until he went on an “extended vacation” and started making the best candy wheels in the land, Mr. Chew's Fantastic Fookies. This episode is full of gems, lessons, laughs, and food; you don't want to miss out! Produced by Dear Media.

In this week's episode of Fostering Change Rob Scheer talks with Jen Lilley. In 2007, Lilley married Jason Wayne. In 2016, Lilley and her husband became foster parents through the organization, Childhelp. In June 2019, Lilley and Wayne adopted their two foster sons and in July 2019, she gave birth to a daughter. And just 2 months ago in May, she gave birth to another daughter!A star on both the silver and small screens, including the Academy Award-winning film THE ARTIST, NBC's iconic daytime series “Days of Our Lives,” ABC's “General Hospital,” and a regular leading lady on the Hallmark Channel and GAC, actress/singer/philanthropist Jen Lilley has tackled countless roles throughout her illustrious career. Jen Lilley's creative prowess does not end when the director yells cut, she is also a singer and songwriter. Her music exudes the same sultry ferocity of Twiggy and Jean Shrimpton, with Phil Spector's wall of sound treatment via Rosie Danvers and her 50-piece orchestra. AXS.com said, “Lilley conjures up the sound of a 1960s girl group and embodies the same essence of Amy Winehouse. She takes a nostalgic twist on a modern song that will remind you of what classic music sounds like and have you longing for the days of Motown." When Jen Lilley is not busy in front of a camera, or perfecting her vocals in studio, she can be found hosting her podcast, "Fostering Hope with Jen Lilley" to demystify the foster care system and encourage loving people to get involved in the cause. She is a true champion for charities. In addition to donating 100% of her music profits to create a neighborhood model of safe loving foster homes, she co-founded Christmas is Not Cancelled, Inc.: A marketing company that raises awareness and funds for amazing causes and nonprofits while giving participants the chance to win huge prizes! The next Christmas is Not Cancelled event is coming up THIS MONTH. In fact, Comfort Cases is partnering with Jen and her team for a "Christmas is Not Cancelled Packing Party" at the end of July. We will be packing up 2022 backpacks filled with school supplies to deliver to students in need in the Washington, DC Metro area. As a teenager, Jen garnered the National Educators Award for her work in Guatemala. She is known for advocating children's rights and supports charities that focus on protecting children against physical and sexual abuse, human trafficking, and the world water crisis. Truly selfless, she is a foster and adoptive parent herself and is a celebrity ambassador for the child abuse and treatment organization Child help, Project Orphans, ECPAT, Olive Crest, The Dave Thomas Foundation, The Thirst Project, The Los Angeles Mission, Oneless, A21, Children of the Night, and the Innocent Justice Foundation. I never experienced the same trials, but I've watched the missionaries here in Port Angeles who have had Japanese on their name tags, but never made it out to Japan. I've seen so many of them faithfully serve and love their mission here in Port Angeles, and in the Tacoma mission. I mentioned William Bringhurst. He was sent to Las Vegas to build a fort and make a safe place for the saints to stop and rest who were traveling back and forth to California from Utah. Things didn't go the way he expected. They built the fort. He's credited with founding Las Vegas. But eventually, the fort was abandoned and he moved back to Utah. It didn't quite work out the way that he had hoped. I don't know if it was a disappointment to Brigham Young who had called him there, but I don't think that God is disappointed in us. We just need to keep trying. Joseph Smith I'm sure had different wants than to be cast in prison at Liberty Jail. But because of those trials we get some beautiful scripture. Doctrine and Covenants Section 122:7 And if thou shouldst be cast into the pit, or into the hands of murderers, and the sentence of death passed upon thee; if thou be cast into the deep; if the billowing surge conspire against thee; if fierce winds become thine enemy; if the heavens gather blackness, and all the elements combine to hedge up the way; and above all, if the very jaws of hell shall gape open the mouth wide after thee, know thou, my son, that all these things shall give thee experience, and shall be for thy good. 8 The Son of Man hath descended below them all. Art thou greater than he? Life will have its ups and downs and God will make it for our good. Well, that's about it for today's show. In today's unplanned crossover episode with Andy's other talk show, Movies with Friends, Candy Cane Greene and Naked Man pilot guest Kyle Dickinson have a Christmas feast with the Cratchits, enjoying Christmas Pudding and a Smoking Bishop cocktail as they discuss BBC's version of A Christmas Carol (1984). Welcome to A Naked Man Christmas Carol. [DISCLAIMER: The episode is intercut with clips from the film & other references. The audio isn't the best, my apologies.] What Christmas carol do Kyle and Andy attempt to sing? Is A Christmas Carol a time travel movie? Why does Andy feel bad for Jacob Marley? How does capitalism fail even the Scrooges of the world? Is this a commentary on Margaret Thatcher era England? How does Christmas change as you go from childhood to adulthood to parenthood? Why are carols so important to Kyle? What creates that proprietary blend of magic and melancholy omnipresent during the holidays? Are Kyle and Andy the cutest? All these answers and more come for those willing to journey to England and with the help of the Ghost of Christmas Past, return back to childhood and rediscover the magic of Christmas. This is a cinematic sleigh ride undertaken to promote The Los Angeles Mission, a nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating homelessness by providing food, drink, shelter, health care and employment to those who need it. Repeat of 1953 episode on NBC Radio. This episode aired on December 21, 1954. The radio episodes have edited in the television audio with a Webb narration to cover visuals. A Los Angeles Mission reports the statue of Jesus has been stolen the day before Christmas. It's Christmas Eve when Father Rojas at the Old Mission Plaza Church in Los Angeles discovers that the statue of the Infant Jesus is stolen from the crib. The statue's worth is only a few dollars, but it is of great sentimental value for the parish. Sgt. Joe Friday will get it back before mass on Christmas Day...Photo Harry Bartell as Father Xavier Rojas.

She takes a nostalgic twist on a modern song that will remind you of what classic music sounds like and have you longing for the days of Motown." Kate Linder received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on April 10, 2008 and Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Y&R co-creator Lee Phillip Bell and castmate Jeanne Cooper spoke at her well-attended ceremony. Kate had roles in the feature films Hysteria (2012) and Erased (2013), Miss Meadows (2014), Garry Marshall's Mother's Day (2016) and The Charnel House. Linder wrapped several more upcoming features including Charlie Matthau's Book of Leah, Stereotypically You, Voice from the Stone and her latest, Dead Love. If you're Kate Linder, you don't quit your job as a United Airlines flight attendant because you’re cast for a one-day, one-line role on The Young and the Restless. Linder has done both jobs simultaneously for the 36 years she’s been on the #1 rated soap opera (that’s #1 every single week for 32 years) in daytime television -- with the resulting confusion among passengers creating hilarious anecdotes. The passenger/fan response has been overwhelming and incredulous. Fortunately, she’s been working only the first-class section for decades and unlike Linder, none of her co-workers there have graced the covers of soap opera magazines. She was preparing for take-off on a flight when the late Johnny Grant called to inform her she had been selected for a Star on the Walk of Fame. Linder is also active with the USO, visiting troops in the US, in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Korea and Guantanamo Bay. In late ’05, Linder was elected Governor of the Daytime Programming Peer Group of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (yup, the folks who put on the Emmys), she was reelected in ’07 for a second two-year stint. She is currently an active and longtime board member for SAG-AFTRA. Linder, as Esther Valentine (so named because Linder was married on Valentine’s Day), confidante/ housekeeper to the soap’s wealthy and powerful matron, Katherine Chancellor (portrayed by the late Jeanne Cooper) has often been called upon to add a touch of humor to the show. Her character has been perennially unlucky in love and her two brief marriages were to con men only after the Chancellor fortune. She and her boss were twice kidnapped in pursuit of the same fortune. Kate is an eternal optimist and tireless worker for many charities and was named celebrity spokesperson for The ALS Association in early 2005. Her late brother-in-law was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) in December, 2004 and Kate has gone to Washington, DC each May to lobby for more funds to fight this disease with no cure. In 2006, Linder won the organization’s All-Star Award for her passionate service to the cause and won their Packman Award in 2007 and their One Starry Night Award in 2016. Kate travels around the country to participate in and encourage other volunteers at the ALS Association’s fundraisers, Walk to Defeat ALS, and in their fundraising dinners for local chapters. She’s also active with many AIDS charities and the Los Angeles Mission. In addition, Linder hosts three annual charity teas with a rotating group of her castmates, one for Canucks for Kids each July in Vancouver and another two in Toronto and Calgary for March of Dimes Canada’s Conductive Education® (CE) program for children and adults with neuro-motor disabilities, Linder is the celebrity ambassador for the latter program.
Dr. Drew’s anger about the current homeless crisis comes to a head as he demands accountability for the situation. Frustrated at watching his own predictions about a typhus outbreak come to pass, he addresses the epidemiology that connects mental illness and homelessness. He and Bob welcome 5th District Supervisor, Kathryn Barger, Los Angeles Mission CEO, Herb Smith and local activist, Rick Swinger, who offer their own opinions about how to solve this problem. Los Angeles Mission and Anne Douglas Center For Women are hosting their 8th annual Legacy Of Vision gala on October 25th, and Honoring Dr. Drew. Leveraging her expertise in building brands, strategic planning and client relations, in 2015, she was able to garner over $40M in media value through negotiated barters. As a recognized community leader and award-winning marketer, Kristen is also an advocate for Diversity & Inclusion. In 2015, Ingram led a cross-departmental working group to launch the NFL DIVERSE TALENT COMMUNITY; an online recruitment platform that encourages quality, dynamic candidates with diverse backgrounds to join its ranks. Its goals are to engage, educate and support registered members, connect them with an NFL Community Manager and serve as a shared talent acquisition database for Human Resources across the NFL and its 32 clubs. Ingram also led the NFL’s pro-social initiative, NFL PLAY 60 After-School Kickoff and was the Chair of NFL Community Teammates – Los Angeles and the Diversity Council Partnership & Recruitment Committee. Prior to joining NFL Network in 2012, Ingram served as a Marketing Manager at ESPN where she managed strategic partnerships with DISH, AT&T U-verse and DirecTV. Outside of her commitments with the NFL, Ingram is passionate about community service and is actively involved with the Los Angeles Mission, LA Food Bank, Miriam’s House and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Los Angeles. As a part of her community involvement and commitment to the core values of the NFL, Ingram launched an on-going organizational initiative that will ultimately provide thousands of personal hygiene kits to homeless and domestic violence shelters in New York and Los Angeles. In 2013, Ingram’s community service was recognized by the NFL with the 2013 Commissioner Award for Community Service. #KristenIngram #Culturation #PoweredByPremier #Marketing #Entrepreneur #Community #Advocate #JustinEpstein www.culturationpodcast.com
