This episode we're joined by Malaysia's very own speed queen, Leona Chin — a trailblazing motorsports athlete and a name synonymous with adrenaline-fueled action. Late last year, Leona made waves by clinching the top spot at the 2024 China Circuit Sprint Challenge (CCSC) BMW M235i Cup, a triumph made even more special as she stood as the only female racer on the track. This hard-earned victory not only highlighted her talent but also marked a milestone in her career: her first-ever championship win in the fiercely competitive, high-octane series. Shortly after her groundbreaking victory, she also realized a lifelong dream by competing at the legendary Guia Circuit during the Macau Grand Prix — an event often dubbed the “World Cup of Motorsports.” Facing such elite contenders, Leona delivered an outstanding performance, securing an impressive 15th-place finish in the GT4 race.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Takuma Sato is a two-time Indianapolis 500 winner and also won the 2013 Grand Prix of Long Beach for AJ Foyt Racing. At the 2024 Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach Motorsports Walk of Fame Induction ceremony he (along with Katherine Legge) became the latest inductee. Sato has won races all over the world when he competed in F3 including a British F3 championship and a win at the prestigious Macau Grand Prix. His Formula One career was mainly with underfunded teams however he managed a podium finish at the USGP at Indianapolis. Sato has always been a popular guy at Long Beach. We caught up with him soon after the LBMWoF ceremony and he filled us in on his preparation for the Indy 500 with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, stories from the past, and his preparation for this year's ‘Greatest Spectacle of Racing.' He also gave us an update on ‘With You Japan' which started as a relief effort due to the effects of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan back in 2011. He's humble, respectful and nice off the track, yet his “No attack, no chance” attitude on the track makes him a fierce competitor. Enjoy!

It's a huge two weeks in world motorsport, kicking off this weekend with the Macau Grand Prix and the Formula 1 Las Vegas GP, followed a week later by the Supercars finale at the VAILO Adelaide 500. Mark Fogarty speaks with Andrew van Leeuwen, Mat Coch and Daniel Herrero about what we should be looking out for.
I get guest suggestions sent to me regularly, and this show is the result of one of those. Dave Kallmann messaged me on Twitter to suggest a few motorsports photographers, and that instantly intrigued me. Dave is a sports reporter for Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, and he is one hell of a photographer himself. If he was suggesting someone then I knew I had to take a look, and man, I am so glad that I did. Jamey Price is a motorsport and automotive photographer from Charlotte, North Carolina, and he is in a league of his own. If you've watched or listened to show for any amount of time, you'll know that I spend a lot of time looking through my guest's work to try and find common threads, those things that seem to connect all of the shots together. Many photographers have these fine threads that seem to weave from image to image, a way that they tell their story that is unique to them. For Jamey it's motion. Let me explain... As a motorsports photographer, of course Jamey is photographing things in motion, and when I say motion I mean speed, but that's not the thread I am talking about. Jamey has an ability to coney to the viewer a feeling of actual motion. Through the use of panning, a creative depth of field, or a dragged shutter, Jamey makes you feel like you are along for the ride. I'm not sure if you can motion sickness from a photo, but if you can then you'd be advised to view Jamey's work carefully. I am left wondering if Jamey's early career choices played a role in the resulting images I see. Jamey was a thoroughbred steeplechase horse racing jockey and exercise rider in the United States, England and Ireland. He rode in more than 50 races, and notched 11 wins in the saddle, all the while taking photos between his races. He eventually self published a book titled "Chasing: Racing Life in England & Ireland." In 2011, Jamey's photography career path switched from horses, to horse power. Since then, his images have been published around the world in magazines, newspapers and websites including The New York Times, HotRod, Hagerty, MAXIM, Car&Driver, CycleWorld, Road&Track, Autoweek, RACER, MotorTrend, Autosport, F1 Racing magazine, Motorsport Magazine, Formula1.com, Lamborghini.com, TopGear.com, Blackbird Automotive Journal, Popular Mechanics, Sports Illustrated & ESPN and many others. Named Motorsport Photographer of the Year in 2019 by the National Motorsports Press Association, Jamey currently does freelance work supplying racing and marketing imagery to some of the most respected automotive brands, photographers, agencies and racing teams and drivers across the world including: Lamborghini & Lamborghini Squadra Corse, Ferrari, Ducati, Audi Canada, Acura, Red Bull, Ford, Bentley, Goodyear, PUMA, MOTUL, RM Sotheby's, Aston Martin Racing, Manor Racing F1 team, Force India Formula 1 team, Renault Formula 1 team, Alpine Formula 1 Team, Williams Formula 1 team, Toyota Gazoo Racing, the Macau Grand Prix and many more. Though primarily sticking to the motor racing and automotive world, Jamey has photographed a diverse range of sporting assignments from professional swimming, to the Kentucky Derby & Breeders' Cup Horse Racing World Championships, NFL games, US Women's National team soccer, and of course the fast-paced world of NASCAR, World Endurance Championship, Formula E, IMSA Weathertech Championship, NHRA, Pikes Peak Hill Climb, Indycar & the Indy 500, MotoGP, 24 hours of Le Mans, 24 hours of Nürburgring, more than 35 Formula 1 races, and a little bit of everything in between! Jamey has been the staff photographer for successful Charlotte based luxury print magazine, QC Exclusive and Discover the Carolinas since 2014 and is a sponsored LEXAR Elite Artist. Join award winning photographer, and LEXAR Elite Artist, Jamey Price and me as we peek into his world of F1 Motorsports Photography, on this Behind the Shot.

Davis Cup – Will the new changes signal the death of the event? Two-time winner Tomas Berdych believes so – It’s the world’s largest annual international team competition in sport. This weekend, The Davis Cup final is taking place in Lille between France and Croatia - it will be played for the final time in its current format in its 118 year history. So why is it changing? ITF president David Haggerty explains to Caroline Barker exactly why and how they aim to keep the Davis Cup the crown jewel of the ITF. Alena Grabowski is an Assistant Professor in INTEGRATIVE PHYSIOLOGY at the University of Colorado-Boulder. In 2008, her research helped counteract a study accepted by the International Association of Athletics’ Federations, the IAAF, which would’ve prevented Oscar Pistorius from stepping on the start line at the London Games in 2012. Ten years on, she continues to work to challenge the sport’s governing body and to establish a level playing field, as we’ve been finding out. The Formula 3 driver Sophia Florsch needed an 11-hour operation on the fractured spine after she survived her high-speed crash at the Macau Grand Prix. This week, Caroline speaks to Paul Trafford who is the doctor of the British Tour Championship who was in Macau and we ask him, what more can be done to prevent crashes like this in Motorsport? He was made for the big occasions – Didier Drogba is a two-time African Footballer of the Year, he’s won four Premier League titles at Chelsea and was also the key protagonist in their historic Champions League victory in 2012. The 40 year old has called time on his playing career and this week, he reflected on his career with Caroline and gave us an insight into what he may be doing in the future. On Saturday, it’s the second leg of the final of the Copa Libertadores, South America’s version of the Champions League. Involving Argentina’s two biggest clubs….River Plate v Boca Juniors. The first leg finished 2-all. We hear from two brothers, one supports River Plate and the other Boca. Picture - France winning the 2017 Davis Cup champions (Credit - Getty Images)

See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
