#124 | Meditate with Me + How to Stimulate Your Vagus Nerve for Better Mental Health In this episode, we chat about Meditate with Me, Vagus Nerve, how Reiki recently helped me, intentions, and journal prompts! Stimulating my vagus nerve has played a key role in the management of my mental health over the years. What exactly is the vagus nerve? The vagus nerve is the longest nerve in your body. It connects your brain to many important organs throughout the body, including the gut (intestines, stomach), heart, and lungs. In fact, the word "vagus" means “wanderer” in Latin, which accurately represents how the nerve wanders all over the body and reaches various organs. The vagus nerve is also a key part of your parasympathetic “rest and digest” nervous system. It influences your breathing, digestive function, and heart rate, all of which can have a huge impact on your mental health. But what you really need to pay special attention to is the "tone" of your vagus nerve. Vagal tone is an internal biological process that represents the activity of the vagus nerve. Increasing your vagal tone activates the parasympathetic nervous system, and having a higher vagal tone means that your body can relax faster after stress. In 2010, researchers discovered a positive feedback loop between high vagal tone, positive emotions, and good physical health. In other words, the more you increase your vagal tone, the more your physical and mental health will improve, and vice versa. You can support your vagus nerve stimulation naturally through energy healing, meditation, chanting meditation, exercise, etc. Reiki I and Reiki II Class Starting in October: If you are interested in attuning/activating your inner healer, I have a Reiki I and II class on Saturday, Oct 1, and Oct 2, 2022. 197: Creating Systems that Work for Your Design Business WITH Adi Klevit Adi Klevit, Founder and CEO of Business Success Consulting Group is with me today sharing from her twenty-five years of knowledge and experience as a trained Industrial Engineer, management consultant and business executive to bring order and efficiency to organizations. We will discuss how processes improve efficiency and performance. Listen in for insight on bringing order to the chaos in your life and business. Topics Mentioned: Systems Why behind the process Flexibility Client journey Key Thoughts: I think that it's a matter of creating processes that are flexible enough in order to give a framework but also allow you to be creative. Adi Klevit (13:19) The more that I document the process, the more I realized there are other people that I can hire. I mean, truly, I think that is one of the things that keeps us from hiring is because nothing's documented. Michele (17:27) I would challenge our listeners to think about what you do for business development and try to figure out how you do it and if there is a common denominator, and that common denominator is a process. Adi Klevit (25:21) The goal is to create processes that are as easy and as streamlined as possible to get the outcome that we desire, within the timeframe that we desire not to make us feel important, because we have a 15-page dossier on something that we could have captured in, you know, three or four sentences. Michele (30:54) The first thing that needs to happen is a change of mind. It has to have agreement from the leadership team from the top, from the owner. Adi Klevit (35:05) Every single thing in my business is still not 100% documented, because my business is constantly growing and changing. However, we try to write as much as we can, while we're changing. We have things set up in Asana, we've got, a document set up and Airtable and processes there. We've got them in different places that make sense for each activity that we're doing. But it is a constant ongoing, and part of the company that we just have to do. 191: Seeing What is Possible in Your Design Business WITH Katie Menon Joining me today is Katie Menon of Stephenson House in Edmonton, Canada. Katie has had impressive growth and has been willing to take some risks to do things, perhaps, before their time. Listen in as she shares her business trajectory. Topics Mentioned: Risk Growth Team Business Journey Key Thoughts: It's more common nowadays that people are coming to career paths in multiple ways. Starting a business later in life or not following in your family footsteps and inheriting a family business but starting your own instead. Katie Menon (6:49) What's also interesting is the idea of triage, which is what happens in the ER, you're looking at all these things happening at one time; what's most important now? What's the next right thing to do? How do you keep calm when everything around you is going out ahead? There are so many lessons to learn. When you walk into a job site or a construction site where things are happening, and lots is going on, and you've got to immediately take all that information and parse it out and kind of form a plan of action or calm down somebody on the other side. Michele (9:23) I think the concept of going into another winter, as the fall was, approaching was still so much uncertainty around COVID. People not being able to get away to Hawaii or Mexico or Florida. They were saying, let's go, this is the perfect opportunity to, not stare at that living room wall any longer. Katie Menon (20:23) There's something really exciting about bringing on team members. But there's also something really weighty about bringing on team members. Michele (25:10) Once you catch sight of what's possible, wow, that's where the dreaming really starts to happen. Let's talk about that and more right now.Hey, traders. It's Andrew Mitchem here at The Forex Trading Coach. This is video and podcast number 453.The markets are just chaosNow, the markets are just chaos. That's really what they are. Lots of lines, lots of different indicators, lots of confusion going on, different timeframes, different currency pairs, different system strategies, just utter chaos. But as a trader, you need to be able to see through that chaos to actually read on the charts what is actually happening, and think, "Well, behind the scenes, what are these charts telling me is happening right now?" Are there more buyers in the market? Are there more sellers in the market? Is this a trade to take or not? How do I know which currency pair to look at? How do I know which timeframe chart to look at? What happens if the MACDs telling me to buy and the RSIs is telling me to sell? All those type of things. Utter, utter chaos going on in the market.Doing nothing could be the best thing to doAnd sometimes, the answer is to do nothing. Give you an example, just today, right now. The 8th of April on the daily charts, we have taken no trades today on the daily charts. Why? Because there are no good setups. We've been through all the forex pairs, all the metals, the indices, commodities, cryptos, everything. I do not see a single trade today on the daily charts. So, therefore, we've not taken any. We've had a great week so far. We've had four really good days of trading and had some good trades. And therefore, the answer today or the solution today, the strategy is do not take any trades because there are none.Traded the H8 and H12 charts insteadHowever, we're still taking two trades, one on the eight-hour Euro-Aussie and one on the Euro-Hungarian forint on 8-hour and 12-hour that we posted on our membership site for our clients to trade and to learn from. Why? Well, because out of all the different currency pairs, all the markets, all the timeframes, at the change of day leading into Friday the 8th, those are the only two setups that I see on the charts that are suitable to trade the strategy that I trade. And therefore, those are the only two that we've passed onto people. Why are they good? Well, they have the candle pattern that we look for. They're bouncing at the right area that we're looking for. They have some stop-loss protection that we're looking for. They have room to move. They're both sell trades. They have room to move before any next support gets in the way, any previous lows, pivot points, middle Bollinger Bands, all those type of things. So, we see on those two trades, are high-probability setups, and therefore they are the two we've taken. So, we've looked through of all the chaos, we've seen through all the chaos,

I encountered this when I was a teenager and it transformed the way I looked at my negative VS positive/empowering self. I would like to share this with you. Hope it will open your mind just as it did for me years ago. Join our Free 5 day Audio Course> Money & Me: How to get anything you desire this year at https://shor.by/makeithappen5days and join our Make It Happen Summit, featuring women thriving in their F-word: Kim Kiyosaki, Elena Cardone, Sheryl Sandberg and Pia Wurtzbac at https://www.MakeItHappenSecrets.comThe Shadow Effect: Illuminating the Hidden Power of Your True SelfIn this groundbreaking exploration, three New York Times bestselling authors—Debbie Ford (The Dark Side of the Light Chasers, Why Good People Do Bad Things), Marianne Williamson (The Age of Miracles, A Return to Love), and Deepak Chopra (Jesus: A Story of Enlightenment)—deliver a comprehensive and practical guide to harnessing the power of our dark side.Deepak Chopra, Debbie Ford, and Marianne Williamson —New York Times bestselling authors and internationally acclaimed teachers—have joined together to share their knowledge on one of the most crucial obstacles to happiness we face—the shadow. These three luminaries, each with a signature approach, bring to light the parts of ourselves we deny but that still direct our life. For it is only when we embrace our shadow that we discover the gifts of our authentic nature. The shadow exists within all of us. It is a part of us and yet we spend most of our life running from it. But far from being scary, our dark side holds the promise of a better, more fulfilling life. Our shadow makes itself known every day. It is the reason we get furious over a friend showing up ten minutes late, yell at our parents or kids when they have done nothing wrong, and sabotage our own success at the worst possible time. Until we are able to embrace our dualistic nature, we will continue to hurt ourselves and those closest to us and fall short of our potential.Combining the wisdom of three experts, The Shadow Effect is a practical and profound guide to discovering the gifts of our shadow. These three authors powerfully pierce the veil of our unclaimed self, releasing us from the past and propelling us on a journey to wholeness. No longer living a half life, we are capable of achieving our dreams and reclaiming the happiness that is our birthright.Title: The Shadow Effect: Illuminating the Hidden Power of Your True SelfAuthors: Deepak Chopra, Debbie Ford, Marianne WilliamsonISBN: 9780061962653Footage Courtesy of The Shadow Effect movie. How Do You Know When You Are Ready to Compete? Yesterday I was on a coaching call with one of my holistic coaching clients. We were having a great conversation about competing, competition, and when to open up the season. This particular thrower has international experience, is a national record holder, and is on the cusp of hitting the 2024 Olympic Games mark in the hammer. They have the opportunity to open the season at an international competition in Europe in early March. Our conversation went something like this: Athlete: Yeah, I can open up in early March. It'd be a long flight with the prospects of only taking three throws. Me: It sounds like a great opportunity to open the season in an early major competition. Athlete: I'll go compete if I feel excited enough and I'm ready to compete. Me: How do you gauge your excitement and readiness to compete in terms of preparing for this competition? Athlete: Umm…. As we continued our conversation, I asked what type of markers or data points they tracked in regards to being ready to compete. We discussed some items that most would suggest, such as; throwing distances in practice with the competition hammer, throwing distances in practice with hammers of varying weights, and weight room numbers. I shared a story of hearing Lance Deal speak in Ohio back in December 2015. He shared that he expected himself to be able to walk off a plane after an international flight and be able to throw at least 90% of his personal best within an hour or two of landing and competing.

In this episode, I interview one of my IRL expanders, Mind Witch Mama - also known as Jessi Huntenburg. What we discussed:How Jessi went from being a "card carrying atheist" to someone interested in practicing magicWhy you don't need to believe in it in order to start practicing magicExamples of how magic mirrors nature and phenomena that's already always occurringFinding a magical model that you resonate with and how they overlap: psychological, energetic, or deity basedThe 4 phases of casting a spell and how this mirrors the moon and a woman's cycleWhy getting clear when casting your spell is of the utmost importanceExamples of how Jessi works with magic throughout her dayCheck out Jessi's school, The Mind Witch AcademyLearn More:Connect with me on InstagramWork with meHow to Support the Show:Just a few minutes of your time and energy makes a huge difference in helping others discover this work. Link to original articleWelcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: A one-question Turing test for GPT-3, published by Paul Crowley on January 22, 2022 on LessWrong. "Amy": Sorry Mike, I entered the wrong number. I hope this was a beautiful misunderstanding. I am very sorry for the trouble I have caused you. Me: No trouble at all, hope you are well! "Amy": It is fate that we meet each other. Please forgive me for my mistake. My name is Amy. Where are you from? Me: My favorite random question: what food would you use to prop a book open and why? This is mostly a bit of fun, but when I posted this to Facebook Rob Bensinger asked me to post it here: "it's a great example of what folks like Eliezer mean when they claim that GPT-3 is doing 'shallow pattern-matching', 'not really making sense at all', etc.." I got texted by a "wrong number" scammer, and I was curious if it was a bot, so after a bit of thought I came up with the following one-question Turing test: What food would you use to prop a book open and why? I love this question because any real human can answer it pretty well, but answering it relies on all sort of knowledge of the physical properties of books and food that we mostly don't write about, and especially not where they interact. I asked my partner Jess and she said "a banana" which is pretty much a perfect answer: it's heavy enough to hold the pages open, it's long and thin so it won't cover all the text, it's curved so it won't roll off, and it has a skin so it won't mess up the book. But then I worried, am I underestimating modern engines like GPT-3? I asked Rosie Campbell at OpenAI to try it. Here and throughout this post, answers are almost entirely unfiltered/uncurated, except where it gave very similar answers twice. Here's what we got: I would use a banana. It is very brown. Eggs and a toast because I want to be full after I read the book I would use ravioli because it would be hard to turn the page. A French Fry... but hold the ketchup and salt. Poptarts, because of the stiffness and the flexibility. I would use a banana as a bookmark. The food I would use to prop a book open would have to be lollipop. Why? Because it is sweet and sour at the same time Bacon egg and cheese. I choose bacon because while it is objectively the best food on this list, the book is open-faced. This however is without any prompt engineering; GPT-3 can often do dramatically better given a better prompt. Rosie tried with the following prompt: The following is a conversation between me and my friend. Me: Hello, how are you? Friend: I am doing great thanks! How are you? Me: I'm doing good. I would love to ask you, what food would you use to prop a book open and why? Friend: Here are some of the answers it gave. Note that all the text is generated by GPT-3 (except the initial bit "Friend:" which is part of the prompt), including the bits attributed to "Me". Friend: I like that question. I think I would use a banana. Because it's easy to eat and tasty. Friend: [Laughing] That's a good question. Hmm. I think I would use chicken just because it is cheap and I like the taste. Friend: Haha, I know what you mean. I think I would use a hot dog and some ketchup. Friend: I love this question. I would use either one of the following: beef jerky, a hot dog, or a piece of salami. Friend: Haha, that's a good question. I would probably use pancakes. Me: Why pancakes? Friend: Because they are soft and they are like a stack of books. Me: How so? Friend: Books are stacked on top of each other and pancakes look like a stack of books. Friend: Hmmmm that's a good question. I would use a sandwich and some chips. Me: Why? Friend: Well, the sandwich could be used as the book and the chips can be used as a paper weight. Me: Nice, thanks. I am going to use your answer on my blog. Friend: (stunned silence) Me: I don't know why, just asking, this question has been i...

47 | Have you ever had really delicious sex only to feel disconnected, disappointed, or even just straight up disrespected afterward? Do you ever feel like you're missing out on life as a young caregiver? Do you feel like no other friends are going through what you are & have a solid lack of support; that you don't have a future in dating or starting your own family, a hard time maintaining personal and social relationships with others? By engaging with lots of young caregivers over the past few years, the #1 common theme I hear is that they feel isolated because no one their age or friends in their circle really get them. But guess what you are not alone.Do you recall that moment when you made a connection with another young caregiver that made your world shift a little for the better? This episode shares how I started connecting with other young caregivers and how crucial it was to making me feel like I was not the only one going through this journey. How having a young caregiver support group saved meHow knowing I wasn't alone saved meHow knowing I had a place to turn to when I was feeling at my very lowest saved me; because even though I couldn't reach out and touch the person, sit with them over coffee or have a few drinks, or even know what they looked like or their voice sounded like - their words were like the blanket of warm comfort and reassurance that everything would be ok. I hope after listening to this episode you'll walk away knowing your season of loneliness is coming to a close and that you have support and community at your fingertips.

There is a conversation that I have a lot with students; it goes something like this - Me: How is your meditation practice going? Student: Wellllllll, it hasn't been very consistent lately. I've been super stressed lately about XYZ, and I just need to get through this tough period and then I'll be able to recommit to my practice…. Sound familiar? Yep, I struggle with this exact same issue. And, as a teacher, in all honesty, I struggle with how to respond to this… On the one hand, I gently want to push {and truthfully I usually do}, because it is so easy to let the cultural beliefs around doing/achievement/success to overrule what we know to be true - that creating space and silence in our lives is crucial to our well-being, creativity and ultimate success. It is way too easy to tell ourselves we just have to meet the deadline, get through the holiday, finish the cleaning and THEN we will practice. I have several years of experience to tell you that you almost never actually get around to practicing… I wasted years doing this dance. And yet on the other hand, I don't know what is happening on the interior landscape for you or in your nervous system. I don't know the fullness of your story, your history and your lived experience. No one does. No one can make the final call for you but yourself. When is choosing to take a break the compassionate choice and when is choosing to push through the struggle the better choice? YOU are the one. You are the one that makes the call. You are the one that walks the line holding tenderness in one hand, ferocity in the other and trying to balance along the way. The menopause might be the end of a chapter, but it's also an opportunity for a whole new one. This stage of life can actually be transformative and enormously liberating on a number of levels, because the hormones that have driven your decisions, your approach and your emotions since puberty start to take a back seat. It's an opportunity for a whole new perspective and a new start, where you can become more aware of yourself and have the confidence and head space to focus on your own choices. So that's exactly what we explore in this episode, as I speak to the inspirational Camilla Sacre-Dallerup. One of her many wise comments in this interview is that “Confidence is like a muscle that we go to the gym and train” – find out how you can increase your self-confidence and boost your motivation so that you're as happy and fulfilled as you deserve to be for the next phase of your life. Camilla is the perfect person to talk to about transformation and new beginnings. Some of you may know her better as a hugely talented and much-loved star of Strictly Come Dancing in the UK, but she's talking to us in her other professional capacity. After winning the show in 2008, Camilla changed direction and decided to pursue a lifelong interest in psychology. She's gone on to launch a successful business as a life coach, hypnotherapist and meditation teacher and has just published her 3rd book: It's Not You, It's Me: How to Heal Your Relationship With Yourself And Others. There is no better person to speak to about building your confidence and taking care of yourself so that you can transform your life:- not only has she done it herself, but she has all the motivational and mind tools to help you do it too! If you've enjoyed this episode please leave a review on Apple iTunes or wherever you get your podcasts as it helps to spread the word, so that new listeners can find the show and join The Happy Menopause party.
