In this episode, Phil Brown interviews Chad Littlefield, the Chief Experience Officer of We and Me Inc. They start with a fun segment of random questions before diving into Chad's journey in experiential adventure education. Chad shares his first experience in experiential education and how it influenced his career path. He also discusses the importance of curiosity and connection in his work. Chad explains his role as the Chief Experience Officer and how WeConnect cards are designed to make connection easy for people. He offers advice on using the cards effectively, emphasizing the power of choice and incorporating content in activities. In this conversation, Phil Brown and Chad Littlefield discuss the importance of listening and asking powerful questions in creating meaningful connections. They explore different frameworks and techniques for effective communication, including the use of WeConnect cards and the concept of intention and openness. They also discuss the need for adaptation and innovation in the field of experiential education, especially in the context of remote work and virtual connections. Takeaways; Experiential adventure education can have a profound impact on personal and professional development. Following curiosity can lead to finding one's passion and purpose. Connection is essential for healing, growth, and success in various contexts. WeConnect cards are designed to make connection easy and can be used by facilitators and non-facilitators alike. Giving people choice in answering questions can lead to deeper and more authentic conversations. Incorporating content and weaving it into activities can enhance the effectiveness of using WeConnect cards. Listening to understand is more effective than listening to win. Being clear about your intention and sharing it with others can create a foundation for trust and collaboration. Entering a conversation with an open mind and being willing to be changed by the other person can lead to deeper connections. Asking open-ended questions, particularly those starting with 'how' or 'what', can foster curiosity and meaningful dialogue. In the field of experiential education, there is a need for adaptation and innovation to create impactful experiences. Simplifying tools and focusing on purpose can enhance the effectiveness of facilitation. We focus a lot on the education of our youth, but people at the other end of their life need resources and education too. Many people lose their hearing as they age, making communication difficult and connection even more challenging. Seniors face isolation, which leads to anxiety, depression, and elevated symptoms of dementia. What can help combat this is more family and community connections and learning something new. This week on the podcast, guest D'yann Crosby shares her solution to this challenge. And it's ingenious. As an educator, D'yann has immersed herself in the deaf community, learning and understanding their needs and finding solutions to fill a need for a community that is underserved and marginalized. She emphasizes the importance of providing exercises for everyone, from hitting the beginning of language learning to senior citizens, and looking at the next generation. About D'yann Crosby: Dr. D'yann Elaine is a leading American Sign Language (ASL) educator, interpreter, consultant, author, producer, and the founder of Sign with Me, Inc. She is an expert in connecting the hearing and Deaf communities and blazing new trails in this field. Dr. D'yann holds a Doctorate in Divinity, two Bachelor's and two Master's degrees from prestigious universities. With a passion for social equity and inclusion, Dr. D'yann's goal is to help people expand their perspectives and focus on their abilities instead of their limitations. With over two decades of experience, Dr. D'yann has dedicated her life to teaching others. She is the executive producer of the ASL Emergency Preparedness DVD Series and Unheard Voices Talk Show, as well as the author of the “Seniors Sign, Too!” book series. Her vision is to inspire a new generation of signers and make a positive impact by unifying communities through language. She has been featured in iDominate (April 2022 and February 2023) and Voyage LA (2022) and on various On-demand and podcast platforms including Power of Praise Network and Unshakeable Woman and Radio Theatre For Your Soul. YouTube's slogan is, “Broadcast Yourself,” and that is what we do online. We produce and express ourselves as a brand to be procured and optimized for online achievement: Me Inc. We sell this brand to Big Tech (Apple, Google, Facebook, Amazon, and Microsoft) like a contestant on the television show Shark Tank. The show promotes the neoliberal myth of self-determination: only hard workers who push themselves become winners (superiors) and survive (fittest). The recurring storyline is that the Sharks are winners by their own free will (self-made): grit, hustle, determination, triumph over adversity, discipline, etc. Be Perfect and Try Harder. We are scripted to build an Empire of the Self: Be Your “self”, Be Transparent, Never Settle (i.e., never lose your “self”), and Compete (Win)! Big Tech are the billionaire Sharks, and our online activity is incorporated. But in this digital Shark Tank, we own 0% equity in our digital selves. George Orwell understood that an efficient totalitarian regime drowns the consciousness of the citizens. In the book Nineteen Eighty-Four he notes this as “an act of self-hypnosis.” We are hypnotized by the hype of so-called “artificial intelligence” because the claims are that it is traveling in a direction that will succeed human intelligence, e.g., ChatGPT. As Erik Larson (2021) notes, “The path exists only in our imaginations.” The AI system lacks common sense (intuition) and as these systems are trained for general knowledge (rather than just Jeopardy!), they become more erroneous in their responses. Intelligence includes an inwardness and also goosebumps. As has been noted, the relationship with the virtual world is symbiotic (psychologically). Now, it is becoming a physical symbiosis. Ferris Jabr quotes Elon Musk in The New York Times Magazine on his ultimate goal for Neuralink. Musk stated that an achievement of “a sort of symbiosis with artificial intelligence” is necessary so that humanity is not obliterated, subjugated or “left behind” by superintelligent machines. “If you can't beat em, join em,” he once said on Twitter, calling it a “Neuralink mission statement.” Big Tech is after the capture of desire at the neuroplastic level. How do they do this? Big Tech and the new semiocapitalism in general, play the Game called Happy To Help! Digital platforms, applications, and enthusiastic bots (“How can I help you?”) are always Happy To Help! Apps dutifully remember our tasks, memories, documentation, bank records, calendars, social lives, transactions etc., all while having an ulterior motive. If Big Tech is the user's parent, it is saying to us, “Don't think what you think, think what I think.” These monopolies exploit the user's behavioral surplus data to sell it to third party entities for ad revenue. Yeah surveillance! The smartphone, smart home, smart vacuum, and smart bed are all collecting data for what Byung Chul-Han (2022) calls the “information regime.” Han notes that this is how “Surveillance creeps into daily life by way of convenience.” Therefore, the real “value” of Big Tech is its ability to surveil the populace as it is in a symbiotic relationship with governments, intelligence agencies, and militaries. The solution is subversion. Undermine the authority of internal and external cultural conditioning, i.e., artificial system (ego/ideology). Don't be your “self”, be authentic (Martian). This implies having the naïvest possible frame of mind (talk about FOMO) for observing earthly phenomena, thus “leaving the intellect free for inquiry without the distraction of preconceptions.” (Berne, 1966) We must be clueless, an idiot, in order to “set aside preconceived notions and allow oneself to not know what the hell is going on.” (Lennox, C. Ed., 1997; p. 62). As Martian (Zen) we access intuitive knowledge for an appropriate response. www.StayAtHomeDay.com Visit MankatoTherapist.com for more information and to contact Andrew Archer. The 1999 Columbine massacre was televised live for the country to see in real time. Students inside the high school watched their own tragedy on CNN as they searched for answers to what was happening. To watch oneself, by oneself is the hopelessness of American despair. The fuel for this American despair is the reigning ideology of hyper-individualism: constructing an Empire of the Self. This requires the forever updating and remodeling of the self: Me Inc. Both Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold had absences of hope: neither had found love and both wrestled with ideas about god and death. Eric's sense of God-like superiority was paired with sadistic nihilism (absence of god), while Dylan's sense of inferiority and depression was one of hopelessness. They could not see themselves or the world as ever changing. They took an absolutist reading of social Darwinian logic to legitimize their actions and it was meant to be televised for the whole world to see. Their despair manifested as powerlessness and agitation. They relinquished any responsibility for their actions and transformed themselves into violence (murder) and incapacitation (suicide) for self-aggrandizement. They were building a sadistic brand and media empire in order to fulfill the Top Gun script (to be the Best of the Best). The scripting was promoted through Games they played: Kick Me, Cops N Robbers, Now I've Got You, You SOB!, I Can't Stand It, etc. In the moment, Columbine was a personalized form of colonialism, Fascism, and imperialism. Harris and Klebold forced a symbiotic relationship with the people of the U.S. in order to dominate space-time (on the airwaves) through an act of revenge. This was performative crime exhibited on TV for the masses in order to instill fear and impotence. Visit MankatoTherapist.com for more information and to contact Andrew Archer.
Plan to join us for the upcoming webinar on the Home Health Proposed Rule 2023 by registering at https://healthrevpartners.com/webinar-the-2023-proposed-rule-for-home-health/ What if time was created to protect you? How can we use it to. better our lives and how to serve others? Lack of time management causes anxiety and stress, sleep issues and even anger or depression. In the work place, it can cause burnout. As leaders, our employees have lives outside of work. Most people are fighting a battle against time before they even grab their favorite cup of coffee. Michael gives his personal example of how he sets his daily schedule to renew his mind and be prepared for life's challenges and serve others through what he calls, "Me Inc." When is comes to finding a coding company, never make decision on price alone. Use the given steps to find the right partnership. As consumers, we are in pursuit of value that fits the price. What you are really looking for is quality, compliance, data and a brand that fits your company. To regain control of collections, there are some common problems we have identified. From Payor set-up and intake to posting payments and claim adjustments, Home Health Revealed lists the steps to take back the process and jump start your collections.
In part two of my interview with Lise Stransky, we expand on the importance of career health. Lise explains that everyone essentially has two jobs: the work we are paid to do and managing “Me Inc.” and it's the alignment between the two that is vital to keep in check. A key way to do this is to seek out meaningful work rather than just the idealized “dream job”.When I asked Lise how she has been assisting clients with “career health checks” through the pandemic, she points out that acknowledging the new skills they've gained is an important step. Not simply the pivot to remote work - though that is assuredly a new skill many of us have been learning - but what has been learned from job loss as well. Ask yourself where you've helped someone else. Where have opportunities grown through the pandemic? These are all notable questions. In striving to maintain work and life wellness, Lise works to remain engaged in the activity she's in. We discuss that important wellness consideration and share hopes for healthy career futures in this thoughtful second episode. June 17, 2021 Pushing through the page. When flow isn't being met by the expectations fed by adventure. Pushing through the page. Instead of walking away, the push is to remain. To be present. To locate the lack of flow and study the cause of the blockage. Creative minds aren't the only travelers that deal with this moment of truth. You feel as if nothings moving. You're standing there with all kinds of emotions. But nothings flowing. Is it because every day feels like every day? A series and system of habits. Everything's laid out like pillows on a bed. I'm supposed to feel this way that this time. This is when my mood will change. I'll take the dog for a walk at this time and I will feel this. We are in the same frame of mind. It's not just me! I see it in you! I daily write at the same time every morning. I constantly blame it on the clock. I need to be here by such and such time or the flow of my day will become damaged. How do you get through this? You've got to call yourself out. Be upfront with your inner laziness. Through awareness make your moment a movement and not a stalemate in chess. There's a cause to every effect. Pushing through the page invites process as it churns into progress. I was shocked to read that the CEO of Morgan Stanley has ordered employees to be back at work 100% by September 2021. Shocked because I thought we had evolved into a new generation of workplace doers. Pushing through the page in the home office was new age. LinkedIn posted a story about presenteeism. According to my computer dictionary it's not even a word. Yet what it represents is very real. Presenteeism is being physically in a chair at work to appear dedicated. Pushing through the page. When flow isn't being met by the expectations fed by adventure. If you thought the pandemic was a setback the darker side of this journey through time is yet to be born. Rent is due, food and gas prices are soaring, every day there's a new Covid variant and your boss is promoting presenteeism. Pushing through the page. You are the owner and CEO of Me Inc. Winning is a choice.

Big companies understand the importance of brands. Today, in the Age of the Individual, you have to be your own brand. Here's what it takes to be the CEO of Me Inc.It's a new brand world. That cross-trainer you're wearing -- one look at the distinctive swoosh on the side tells everyone who's got you branded. That coffee travel mug you're carrying -- ah, you're a Starbucks woman! Your T-shirt with the distinctive Champion "C" on the sleeve, the blue jeans with the prominent Levi's rivets, the watch with the hey-this-certifies-I- made-it icon on the face, your fountain pen with the maker's symbol crafted into the end ...You're branded, branded, branded, branded. It's time for me -- and you -- to take a lesson from the big brands, a lesson that's true for anyone who's interested in what it takes to stand out and prosper in the new world of Work
Welcome to Scale Your Sales now my next guest is, me! I decided that I would monthly, speak straight to the podcast audience rather than have guests all the time. It has been brilliant, I absolutely love talking to the expert influencers, and I learned so much, and I hope you do too? I thought I would start first with my book Business Evolution: Creating Growth in a Rapidly Changing World, I wrote this nearly six years ago. So much of my experiences are wrapped up in this book and the strategies I live by. I thought it would be good for me to talk a bit more about it so that you can get to know me, maybe you might even buy the book, Business Evolution by Janice B Gordon. The book brings together a lot of my experiences and history and things that I've done; I often say that absolutely everything that you do, whether it's good or bad, is meant to teach you something, meant to move you on. It is often when you come later in life you realise, oh had I not done this at that point then I will not be able to do this at this point. Even though that was not necessarily a good experience, it challenges you, so you learn a lot. I had worked in financial services in sales in the 80s. I did my MBA at Cranford School of Management and then worked with a construction company where I systemised the operations and managed everything for them. It enabled them to grow with all the policies and the accounting system. Then I worked with a customer experience innovation consultancy, and this embedded the customer experience because they introduced it to me, customer experience. It was a revelation to me. I understood through many of the customer journeys that I did for the companies I worked with HSBC, AOL, and so forth. Lots of the projects, I understood that customers are the best inventors and creators. I mention this in the book, the engineers or the designers would sit there. During customer journeys, experiences and customers always found the shortcuts, and so that was quite a revelation. The importance of asking your customers because they are usually right, they have a valid voice, and they are often not at the table. Now when I talk to my clients about this and say, do you have the customer sitting at the table, literally have a seat that says customer on it? Often, we are so wrapped up in our world, and I certainly understand that running a small business working with other colleagues and even though I talk to many medium-sized and larger businesses it is precisely the same. We all are so focused on what is going on in our own lives, in our own business. We forget about all of that out there, and all of that out there, are your customers; the people that put food on your table. That is why it is important to have like a physical aspect of a customer in the business to remind you always. Is this the right message for that customer? Is this something that they would buy and approve of? To even get the focus groups of customers, your top customers, take them out to lunch, talk to them. Ask them questions, get them to test trial; they are your best inventors and creators. You need to keep them close to your company. I talk about all this in the book. But let me start at the beginning of the book. It all about what I call the 'Essential 4Ps'. The 'Essential 4Ps' is Personality, Purpose, Pleasure and Process. I wrote Business Evolution: Creating, to explain the relevant principles of the ‘Essential 4Ps’. Modern business has fundamentally changed, it is not about selling in fact selling has become a dirty word. It is about Attracting and Building business relationships, but how do we do this? The people we are naturally attracted to you are more like you than unlike you. Essential 4Ps taps into being, finding, attracting, communicating, and pleasing more ‘people like you’. In business you must magnetically attract your customers, to do this you need to magnetise our personality. The ‘Essential 4Ps’ are your guiding business principles to gain business alignment and give your business that personality that will attract more like you. Personality asks, ‘who are you and what is great about you?’ How can people identify with you until they know who you are, Personality helps you to uncover your values and character that you want to be identifiable. It is the underlying currency in a global economy to help customers identify and engage with you and your business. Personality determines your core values that become your authentic promise to your customers. Purpose enables you to clarify what you do that no one else does in the way you do it (for your customers). We are all unique and different. This is your WHY, your reason for being and doing. It is your existential purpose and answers the question “what business are you in?” It is our unique view that you offer the world. Some people will be attracted to our unique view and others will not, not everyone is our customer and rather than have a scattergun you want people to self-select you. You do not want anyone; you want the right one because the wrong one only cost you money. Pleasure prepares you to understand and to serve your customers desires, wants and needs. This is establishing the relationship. Ask and you shall receive, many companies do not enquire their reason for being, how they are doing and how they can do better – it is crazy! The aim of Pleasure is to involve your customers (and employees) to align the strategic goals with your customer’s specific needs and expectations. Process positions your customer’s central to your business, so they get what they want, when they want it and how they want it. Your business processes must align with your company purpose and your strategic goals; Process must be made ready to consistently deliver. The process must meet your customer expectations and very occasionally WOW or surprise your customer. Why the Essential 4Ps? Your company competes in a crowded global market and as the representative; you are the first presentation of your business that customers, suppliers, and stakeholder meet, judge, and buy. Tom Peters said in Fast Company magazine, “All of us need to understand the importance of branding. We are CEOs of our own companies: Me Inc. To be in business today, our most important job is to be head marketer for the brand called you.” Being You – personality Being your best you – purpose Being your best you for your customer – pleasure Being your best you for your best customer consistently – process. In a socially connected global economy, you must engage with your customer and your business process must align with your purpose. Essential 4Ps will reduce complexity and improve transparency. The 4Ps will give you the confidence in presenting your declared purpose making you accountable to your purpose, your customers, and your business. Essential 4Ps gives you the freedom to operate within a framework of your authentic business purpose and achieve higher goals for your customers. The are many examples and exercises in the book Business Evolution, available on Amazon. Next time I will introduce you to the Scale Your Sales Framework. Praise for "Business Evolution “This book is for businesses wanting to grow their business by giving practical insights relevant in this rapidly changing global economy. It is clear Janice knows her stuff; I would highly recommend you Buy it, Read it, Apply it & Evolve it!” Lara Morgan Entrepreneur and Investor “Wow! Business Evolution is the most enjoyable book about how to grow your business I have ever read. Through quite challenging, and always credible, exercises, Janice explains her 'Essential 4Ps', which will keep your business growing and give plenty of 'wows' to your customers. This business book is the real deal on how to grow your business. It is a five star 'wow' for me which I will return to, time after time. “Tony Robinson OBE Entrepreneur, Business Advisory Board & Enterprise Rockers https://www.linkedin.com/in/janice-b-gordon-customer-growth-expert
August 27, 2020 Making the choice to live a life and style of being present in the Now isn’t an easy walk. Cuz here we are! You know the modern day picture of the headlines and events. But here we are! Living in the Now carries no excuses. Yep. It’s the now. But is it where we want to be? Do we see it as the right place to be? If not then what should the next step be? On this podcast episode I’m gonna ask a lot of real questions during a time when candy coated bathroom mirror smiles are the walk of the masses. A page. Sheet of paper. Weighs less than a bird’s feather. Yet they find flight. I love sitting in this forest watching how they leap from limb to limb or soar like an eagle next to the sun. Makes me wonder why the human is sitting around accepting what is. Through the air you breathe I can hear your whisper, “This too shall pass. This is only a brief moment.” I find pure enjoyment in waiting for the day the state Governors clear the way for businesses to get back to their process of building success. Those in control are going to see a different people. The existence of the new landscape will be survivors that don’t want to be told what to do. We need to celebrate hard work as one. Including the decision makers who find great purpose in spending more time on a golf course rather than breaking out in beads of sweat. In everything you do day and night there’s always going to be something or someone standing in the way of your dreams coming true. In this age of equal space, the role of the new age manager should be to participate with those who’ve kept the rhythm in their hearts moving forward. No matter how tiresome this Covid mess is on our hearts and how it’s completely rearranged how a child is being taught. You have survived and will continue to lead your own life. I see deeply dedicated people with huge degrees attached to their name working at gas stations, grocery stores and Taco Bell. If the calling to return to the career is actually received they’ll probably go back to that world of stress, criticism, constantly changing expectations and department heads sitting behind a desk with a Diet Coke bathed in ice while the rest of the team is dragging tail because 12 hour workdays is how this company can get back in the lane of victory. I’m waiting for that day! The day those doors open. I want to be a fly on the wall when those employees are treated exactly the way they once were before Covid and their hearts gently whisper, “I don’t need this.” The structure is going to change. Welcome it by putting your name at the top of your company ladder. For you are the CEO and owner of Me Inc!

August 13, 2020 When was the last time you physically sat down and listened to the new rhythm of today’s spoken word? Everyday conversation! People are all over the place. It’s almost like we’re posting on social media rather than investing in a heartfelt adventure of relationship. Subjects are changed so quickly. You can’t help but ask “How did we get here?” It’s almost as if we’re trying to speak in a moment where being present now means nothing to being somewhere else tomorrow. On this podcast episode we leap into the process of a new age of communicating by being honest about how our minds are moving a thousand words a minute. Mindsets. Mood swings. Up then down. Trust fill and faithless. Not as in religion but having no faith in the people presently in our circle. It’s poisoning our ability to control our mind body and souls. Based on the empowerment of awareness and focus. No day passes without my most important walk before the sun rises. I call it my Walk of Intensions. I make it known to my waking self what my expectations are and it’s my intension to meet my personal demand. This is extremely difficult in a world designed by those collecting research. I can’t stand Google Assistance and any other form of listening in device or app created because they feel like their helping us. They need to document our daily habits. We are creatures of everything but what we aren’t. We think we’ve got our buying under control. We think we’re smart and positive. We think we’ve got a grip during these pandemic days. I’d love to see the research that Google Assistance has on you. No wonder our anxiety levels are through the roof. It gets old to pop onto a new website and there’s advertising plastered all over it not because you looked for it but because you spoke about it in a conversation. Two days ago I posted on Facebook my excitement about Kamala Harris reaching a huge moment of American history. Not even 30 seconds went by and the Biden campaign or someone claiming to be was asking for money to support the election. Wal Mart is watching us because Amazon is watching us. National Security is watching and listening. But we continue to fail to listen to each other. We are choppy with our talks. Rushing to move forward to the next person or emotion. How do we correct this? They say everything starts at the top then moves down. Umm you are the president and CEO of Me Inc. The top of your personalized world. If you don’t fix it then Google Assistance will gladly reshape you.

On episode 5 of Lift U Up: Inspiring Health Stories, we went 1-on-1 with Dr. John Lewis, an accomplished researcher and a former associate professor at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, who committed to eating a whole-foods, plant-based diet over 23 years ago. He experienced many illnesses at a young age, and then an autoimmune disease in his 20s that he battled for several years, yet never received the answers he wanted from physicians. John sought out the answers himself, made the change to a whole-foods, plant-based diet and grew his passion for wellness and dietary supplements. Through his peer-reviewed research combined with his personal experiences, John broke the barrier of his once conventional opinions towards medicine and hasn’t looked back. John is someone who truly practices what he preaches and pursued his passion to help others using dietary supplements and nutrition as the founder and chief science officer of https://www.nurish.me/ (Nurish.Me Inc).
Probably because I’m a Broadcast instructor I see a lot of startups and huge letdowns. Yeah I’m the guy that proudly stands up front looking at all those rows of hardcore dreamers and says, “If you’re here to chase radio get started in the smallest town in your state. The big boys are already full with three million people are sitting impatiently on the waiting list. Or… You can start podcasting and declare yourself hired. Because you’re the president and CEO of Me Inc.” The problem with opening that door is that everybody thinks it instantly comes with fame and fortune. Yeahhhhh guess what? When those numbers don’t show up the thought of doing more episodes sits in the cellar until you’re in the mood to pop open the microphone again or you’re taken over by jealousy. Everybody else looks like they’re having fun so it ignites a new fire in your drive forward. Not to be a buzz kill but podcasting demands a lot of attention. You’ve got to be willing to work hard and be committed. Even if you’re doing it as a hobby or you’re a business that’s been convinced that it’s a new way to reach customers, you can’t envision a certain number of expected episodes then quit. You’d never unpeel a banana then set it on the counter and walk away. You’d have fruit flies in less than 60 minutes. From the first start know in your heart podcasting is always moving forward. They say the human being can read the same sentence seven different ways. Take the subject of your episode. It too can be delivered in multiple ways. You’re never the same person on each episode. It’s completely natural to always bring different ideas and experiences. Look at the way Chelsea Handler continues to cover mental illness. Same subject. Several different episodes with brilliant content and hardcore attention grabbing inflection and storytelling. The other day I was instantly drawn to Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert because he reposted a conversation with the late Peter Fonda. Famous person with a crap life. We’ve all heard them but not in the way that Peter brought his story forward. The reason why I bring this up is because so many podcasters get caught in the hiccup. It’s that one moment when your creative juices don’t show up. Oh I’ve been there. This is my fortieth year in broadcasting. You get to get to this part of the journey unless you’ve learned how to move through those pain in the ass dry spells. As to why so many pull their podcast ship off the water? It’s the same old stories, “I wasn’t feeling it. I’ve run out of ideas. The social networking part of the process is too time consuming. I’m not making money and that’s not in my plans.” Yeah yeah yeah. Subliminally speaking. Hitting that blank spot in the wall can easily affect you. The listener in you is tuning out. Is your show moving in forward motion? Is it more about you and less about the physical listener? If it is… The listener in you is in the front row of your show! It’s read to punch the next button. No seriously! It doesn’t matter who’s hosting the show, the inner core of every person involved is affected by their way of how they listen. The listener in you has a completely different personality then the performer. Which is why you can’t stop podcasting after thirteen strikeouts at the numbers game. If the ambition and addiction to podcasting has left you cooled off. Grab some space and head out to the streets or busy office. Time to listen to the episodes in the very places your fans and followers are hooking up to the vibe. Put yourself at their level. Adlibbing and improving are a skill. If you’re dropping tracks with no scripts those ears of yours know when the subject at hand is either off coarse or out of tune. I do get a little bothered when talent tell me, “Not every podcast can be a homerun. I crack the mic open and we’re off!” Which basically tells me (the listener) that quality doesn’t matter. Edit edit edit! You make a mistake, keep moving! Get the thought out! Then return to the crime scene to patch up the disturbance. Hitting the blank spot in the wall is a symptom that requires a solution. I totally grasp the free spirit slash organic approach to breaking bread on the microphone but man you can’t wing a bowling ball a hundred miles an hour at the pens and expect to get a strike unless you follow through. Oh hell yeah. I’m repairing your desire to podcast with my personal experiences as a bowler with the AJBC. It was in the late 1970’s but the analogy of following through is the first step toward a new beginning. If you’re getting burned out then create a shorter podcast. If you’re tired of waiting for people to show up, do the episodes yourself. If the podcast subjects are all over the place… follow through with well disciplined focus. One thought per break. The food talk goes on the cooking channel not the main vein. The book talk goes to an author podcast not the hot spot. Break up your subjects by giving them their own stage. If your final decision is to put a nail in the coffin be ok with it. This isn’t terrestrial radio where there’s only so many stations in each town. You didn’t terminate yourself from the podcast. Something needed to grow in a different direction and a sliver of your life looked at that blank spot in the wall and chose the easier route. I’m gonna walk away for a while. Hmmm you’d gain more experience if you hung in there. Teaching yourself how to quit is a bad habit with no doctors in the market to fix the broken spokes. It’s ok to lose a couple of teeth in this hockey game. It’s not supposed to be easy. There’s always joy in podcasting! The joy of exercising your right to speak. So what’s the moral of the story? It’s perfectly fine to soak your big toe in podcasting without taking it as serious most. Dabbling around with it part of the growth. Do yourself a favor though. When you do reach that blank spot in the wall try not to advertise it to your family, friends and followers. During that break from the action repost your past performances. Gaining new listeners every day is a fun part of the practice. If your episodes are stacked they aren’t going through ten pages of stuff to find your best work. If they haven’t heard it before. Then it’s a brand new show. If you haven’t heard it in a long time. It can feel like a brand new show. You might be inspired to crank up the creative engine and give yourself a shot of juice.
I’m quite anxious about the future of podcasting as we grow closer to the 2020 U.S. Presidential election. The majority of today’s Broadcast outlets are owned and operated by huge corporations controlling the world of news. Yeah, I said it. Radio and television are connected to ratings and those making the decisions and or consulting do all they can to keep the line of content communication focused what the company supports and delivers. Right now we’re seeing the largest number of Democrats announcing their candidacy for the highest position on the planet. The best way to get the word out will be through the power of podcasting. There are no program directors, news directors or CEO’s laying claim to how this reporter didn’t fit the image they’re trying to project to the viewing and listening audience. Even bigger… Those hosting podcast shows want to talk to candidates and will give them ample time and space without charging a dime for air time. As of now there are no equal amount time rules for the vote chasers. Podcasters can pick one team and stick to it like gum on a shoe without ever sharing the same digital delivery with the challenger. Embrace it people! Radio and television will be bogged down with 30 and 60 commercials of every side causing a disconnection with people sick of hearing the mudslinging. In the world of podcasting you’ll have to power of choice. Yes I want to hear this person’s journey through politics or hell no we aren’t touching that wild monster on Capitol Hill. As a Podcaster I’ll say yes to every Tom, Dick or Harry running for public office. I feel it’s my job to get the entire story or someone will write it for them. Podcaster’s have the opportunity to truly educate the community and or poison it. Just remember, during these modern times of political silence the appearance of any candidates name on your podcast list can instantly turn your show into a moment of judging a book by its cover. Been there done that a few thousand times. Content is a beautiful thing especially when it brings a fresh approach to variety. A good idea might be to create a completely different podcast with the politics headed this way. I have many different shows because it separates subjects. I’d never put Hobby Discovery interview on a podcast show that’s focused on Hollywood actors and movies. The listener bee bops by and it’s like what? Why would my entertainment to the world connection be hooked up with a boat building show? A good example is you’re a hardcore sports announcer that knows the game and can pull off any sports replay like it was yesterday. On your sports podcast something appears on the show about a political candidate that’s not too hot in the numbers but you’re just trying to push them out there a bit. You take the hit. Suddenly the really good sports guy is wearing a different hat. Rock stars appear on my show View From The Writing Instrument because they write music. Chef also appear on the show because they come with cookbooks. A NASCAR driver promoting Home Depot won’t get the time on the show. That means I still won’t talk to the dude that keeps taking left hand turns. Content wins! The moral of this week’s story is to participate with what’s about to walk through that door in the podcast world. Politicians! You’ll always have the choice to pick which ones get airtime. You are the President and CEO of ME Inc. Don’t be shocked if the groups that are against certain candidates don’t reach out as well. You’ll need to have true leadership in who gets into your area of delivery. If your choice is to support one side and from your lips come words that go up against the other side, expect them to call out your name and identity. Be nice to all podcasters. Don’t be slinging things at other hosts doing what they’ve been blessed to share. Grab the content and watch your numbers increase or decrease. Everybody has something to sell. Get to their mission quickly then get back on your winning path. Never forget it’s always your podcast show. If the guest tries to dominate the conversation reach over and shut off the microphone. Wish them good luck. Give em a buck for the campaign then get on with your day.

On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldman spoke with former boxer, kickboxer, and MMA fighter, and current trainer, nutritionist, and activist, Omowale Adewale. We spoke with him by phone Tuesday. The December 14 episode of late-night hit TV show "The Rundown with Robin Thede", shown on BET in the U.S., had a feature on a Russian troll operation known as "Black Fist". We discussed this with Omowale, how they tricked him into being associated with it (and how I was tricked into covering "Black Fist"), how all he did was conduct self-defense and martial arts training he was already doing and still does, how Black people were being used as a "pawn" in it, and the political implications of this scam. We also discussed the treatment of this scam by the media, and how shows by Black women such as Robin Thede and Karen Hunter provided the best coverage. Now that he is retired as a fighter, he has had more time to devote to training people, both adults and youth, in fitness, combat sports, and self-defense. "In terms of fitness, I'm training people mornings and evenings, which started in November. This is a few months after I stopped fighting. I just started training people more often," he said. "Now I'm doing a Brooklyn Boxing Boot Camp." This is all part of a greater effort he has been involved with for many years. "My organization, which has been around for 16 years, we're a small group of folks, Grassroots Artists MovEment, G.A.ME Inc., we have a space in Bed-Stuy, and what we do is focus on addressing the socio-economic conditions of Black and people of color in our community, particularly poor working class." He also has initiated a vitally important project called "Black Men Dismantle Patriarchy and Misogynoir", where Black men meet to discuss how to fight misogynoir (which is misogyny directed towards Black women), and to support and protect Black women and girls. We discussed how all this is part of the struggle against white supremacy, how his work helps the community get various resources and nutrition information, the need to fight "toxic masculinity", why people need to get organized and get skilled and get fit, and much more. Martin Yate talks about how being tenacious with your goals and focusing on building a career instead of just going from job to job is the best way to achieve your dreams. Martin Yate is the New York Times bestseller of the "Knock Em Dead" series of books, which are collectively published in 63 foreign language editions and awarded as the best career planning books in the world. Podcast Highlights Who is Martin Yate? Martin started out with three goals in life. Be a pastor, or become an actor, or write the great American novel. None of those panned out but out of those mistakes Martin’s career evolved. Martin spent twenty years writing and couldn’t get published. Martin landed a job as a headhunter, parlayed that into a position as a trainer. Martin started writing manuals and was eventually turned down by 65 publishers, but the 66th publisher bought the book and Knock Em Dead is now on its 32nd edition. Where does your tenacity come from? Martin is an immigrant to America with ADHD. Instead of looking at ADHD as a disorder, we should see it as a superpower that has to be managed. Multitasking is one of the most used words in job posts, ADHD is multitasking with focus. Why did you keep writing? You have to pursue your dreams and put juice into your life. Once Martin found success with his first book, the publisher basically demanded to keep the relationship going. Books became Martin’s primary method of income generation. What would you say to people thinking about building a business but are afraid of hiring? If you can not hire employees effectively, you will not be able to manage them productively. We live in an uncertain world. You have a job until your company can replace you with someone cheaper. Odds are you are going to be pushed out of your career at some point so you need to have an entrepreneurial attitude when it comes to work. Technology has destroyed the traditional career. It has changed every job in every industry and made going into business for yourself infinitely easier. Look at your career as training for your future business. What does career planning look like today? Once you get out of school, get a job in a big stable profession. That’s where you will develop the skills that will help you be successful as an entrepreneur. The skills that appear in job postings like communication skills and critical thinking are the skills that determine success in every area of life, not just on the job itself. Statistically, you will have around three different careers over the course of your working life. Put an emphasis on skill development. What is your new mantra? We look at the corporation as a new mother and father. Take everything you have learned and apply it to ME Inc. Live up to your expectations and dreams and not your income. Reference: Knock Em Dead’s The Ultimate Job Search Guide 2017, Martin Yate Martin’s Takeaway Start thinking in terms of calendars and not clocks. Keep your job and work towards pulling the trigger on starting your own business because that job is under writing what you need to be successful.
