Hér tökum við fyrir seinni hluta ársins 1978. Þetta var ekki fjörugasta árið í KISSögunni, en þó gerðist nú nokkuð hjá okkar mönnum. Sólóplöturnar fjórar litu dagsins ljós ásamt auðvitað sjónvarpsmyndinni KISS: Meets The Phantom Of The Park sem frumsýnd var á NBC sjónvarpsstöðinni þar sem nánast öll Ameríka poppaði, kom sér fyrir í sófanum og horfði. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
In this episode of The Film Situation Podcast, we sit down with the incredibly talented Byron Werner, a seasoned cinematographer known for his work on the 2023 feature film SPINNING GOLD, as well as music videos for top artists such as Weezer, Coldplay, and Lil Wayne. Byron shares his journey from making short films in grade school to becoming a sought-after Director of Photography in Hollywood. Byron discusses the creative process behind SPINNING GOLD, a biopic about Neil Bogart, the founder of Casablanca Records. He delves into the unique visual style of the film, which blends modern techniques with a nostalgic 1970s flair. We also explore his extensive work on music videos, where he brings a dynamic and innovative approach to the screen, and how his early passion for filmmaking has fueled a diverse and successful career. We also talk about Byron's approach to cinematography, and his thoughts on the challenges and rewards of working in both the film and music video industries. Then we discussed two of his favorite movie scenes from Steven Spielberg's JURASSIC PARK (1993), and Michael Mann's HEAT (1995). Hosted by Zef Cota
KISS is one of the most legendary bands in the history of rock n roll. From their iconic makeup to their bombastic stage shows to the marketing and licensing of every product under the sun, KISS has been a part of popular culture for half a century. The self-titled debut album, KISS, didn't grab everyone's attention out of the gate, however. While they had some killer riffs supplied by original guitarist Ace Frehley, some funky bass from Gene Simmons, swinging drumming from Peter Criss and superstar vocals from Paul Stanley, the band were still forming their sound and identity. In fact, the sales of the album were so slow that Casablanca Records chief Neil Bogart cajoled the band into recording a 50s cover, Kissin Time, which he thought would help boost sales as a single. Even though Kissin Time was added to every copy of KISS after the first 100,000 or so, it didn't help generate more sales. But their reputation as a great live band had KISS winning fans around the nation. And while KISS wouldn't capture that live sound until ALIVE! a couple of years later, this album has some great tracks which are still KISS classics today like Deuce, Strutter, Cold Gin and Black Diamond. We give it our usual track x track evaluation and throw in lots of KISS tidbits. As a special bonus, we have included a clip from Space Ace himself, Ace Frehley. As Ace recently spoke with Paul Stephenson of VRP Rocks (a good friend of Ugly American Werewolf in London), Paul asked Ace a question from The Wolf about the timing of his new solo release 10,000 Volts and how it's coming out almost 50 years to the day from the release of KISS. Ace may not answer the question we asked but it's amazing that Paul asked if for us and the audio is included somewhere in the episode - you'll have to listen to hear from Ace!!
We're back with Part 2 with Evan "Kidd" Bogart. Make sure you listen to part 1 to hear about Evan's incredbile journey through the music industry. He's also executive producer, music supervisor, and composer for the new motion picture "Spinning Gold" which tells the story of his father, Neil Bogart, who discovered Kiss, Donna Summer, George Clinton, and built the most successful disco label in America, Casablanca Records. We dig into some hidden gems about the movie — like why he used all original recordings of his father's music, instead of the versions we all know and love, and what it was like working with his brothers and his mother on this project. Make sure you check https://www.spinninggold.movie to find out how to see it. Don't miss some amazing performances from Jason Derulo, Wiz Khalifa, and many others. Learn more about your ad choices. Part 1 of 2 Evan "Kidd" Bogart seems like he would have had an easy ride to the top. He was born into music industry success — the son of Casablanca Records founder Neil Bogart and Kiss manager Joyce Bogart Trabulus. And today has a Grammy (for Beyonce's "Halo") and a long list of hit songs (see below), and now a movie — Spinning Gold — which he made with his brothers, about his father. In between is where it gets interesting. He tried to break through as a rapper in the 90s. When that didn't work, he started in the music business and became known as the guy who discovered Eminem and didn't get credit for it (you'll hear a bit of that story in our episode). Evan started again, only to have it fall apart and have to move home at 26, and start again. You'll have to listen to our interview to find out how it all turned around for him, and the lessons he learned from the ups and downs. But it should be obvious that never giving up is core for Evan, and that his love and passion for music has driven him through life's challenges. Make sure you come back next week for part 2 where we talk about the incredible movie Spinning Gold, on which Evan is executive producer, music supervisor, and composer. Check it out at https://www.spinninggold.movie Meanwhile, here's just a partial list of the artists Evan has contributed to: Eminem Maroon 5 One Republic Rhianna Styles of Beyond Planet Asia Jason Derulo Sean Kingston Enrique Iglesias Jennifer Lopez Lizzo Learn more about your ad choices. This week Tom & Zeus review "Spinning Gold" the movie about Casablanca records founder and KISS first record label head, Neil Bogart. Spinning Gold was released March 31, 2023 in movie theaters across the country. Its the touching story of Casablanca records founder Neil Bogart. Neil has always been a huge part of KISStory. Neil was a young successful record executive when he opened up Casablanca records in 1974. KISS was the first act signed by Neil and Casablanca. Therefore, the movie does have many KISS moments even though its not a movie about KISS. The guys discuss the KISS parts of the movie and breakdown the movie as a whole SIOL style. They breakdown the "Beth" segment as well and that Donna Summer scene. A fun discussion about a movie all KISS fans should see and since this is a movie review, don't miss the Marvel style ending as well. So Walk Away Chief! Hosted on Acast. And for the Treat, comedian Marc Maron talks about comedy inspirations, past and present.

Alongside icons like Diana Ross, Cher, and Madonna, Donna Summer's legacy as the Queen of Disco is undisputed. With the recent release of the Neil Bogart biopic "Spinning Gold," which chronicles the illustrious career of this visionary pop music hitmaker, who also happened to be the head of one of the most successful music labels capitalizing on the Disco trend of the 1970s, and the upcoming HBO documentary titled "Love To Love You," which features never-before-seen photographs and video footage shot by Miss Summer herself and has extensive involvement from her daughter Brooklyn Sudano, Party Favorz, felt it was finally time to pay tribute to the most important part of Donna Summer's career and her timeless songs that earned her the title "Queen of Disco." Previous tribute sets to Donna Summer by Party Favorz featured the original versions of her songs. However, due to the nature of the way songs were created in the past, with live orchestras and bands, the tempos were not always conducive to modern DJ mixing. This was evident in her retrospective album "On The Radio" released in 1980, where the label released a mixed version of the songs in an edited format, using synthesized effects in between songs to create the illusion of a mix. Party Favorz, took on the challenge of editing the original versions into a continuous mix that utilized more of the lengthy originals, staying true to the original sound of Donna Summer's music, and the result was fantastic. This revisited series of Donna Summer's music also delves into her often-overlooked repertoire from the 1980s, a mixed bag of hits and misses. However, when Donna Summer nailed it, she did so with great fanfare, and Party Favorz wanted to showcase these gems, allowing listeners to experience more of her songs as they were originally released for the dance floor. With some dramatic tempo changes in the songs, Party Favorz got creative in finalizing the track order to ensure a seamless listening experience for Donna Summer's devoted fans, who are sure to be pleased with the final product. Donna Summer's career had a resurgence in the late 1990s, resulting in an entirely new era for her music. While Party Favorz has previously released what was thought to be the ultimate collection of this period, the continuous release of new modern-day remixes of her biggest hits has prompted a second volume, set to drop later this year, to capture this ongoing evolution of Donna Summer's music. It's worth mentioning that Party Favorz relied heavil...
We're back with all the latest happenings in the rock and metal world with Geekwire! Tragically, one person died and several were injured at a recent Morbid Angel show outside of Chicago. We discuss this sad situation and are sending good vibes to the people affected. Chris recently ventured to the theater to see the Neil Bogart biopic 'Spinning Gold.' Did it accurately portray Neil and the Casablanca Records story? Was it a mess of factual inaccuracies? Above all else, was it worth a watch? Chris gives his full review of the movie. Sebastian Bach recently pranked Skid Row fans by claiming a deluxe edition of 'Subhuman Race' was being released. Did this work as an April Fool's day gag? We give our thoughts. PUBLIC VERSION. Filmmaker Timothy Scott Bogart (SPINNING GOLD, TOUCHED, LOVE & SEX) joins Adam, Joe, and Arwen to discuss his career journey. From growing up as the son of record industry maverick Neil Bogart (Casablanca Records- KISS, DONNA SUMMER, THE VILLAGE PEOPLE)… to fast-tracking his own career as a filmmaker by graduating NYU film school early and heading straight to Los Angeles… to talking his way into executive positions whether he actually knew how to do the jobs or not… to learning firsthand how to put film financing together through tax credits and foreign sales… to creating the TV series MOWGLI: THE NEW ADVENTURES OF THE JUNGLE BOOK and writing and directing episodes of the show… to his long journey making his latest feature SPINNING GOLD (an extremely personal biopic about his father in U.S. theaters everywhere as of March 31, 2023)… to how the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the production for almost 2 years and almost spun the entire project away right before his eyes… Tim's story will surely inspire, enlighten, and encourage any struggling artists out there! Also in this episode, Adam and Tim take a controversial stance on Italian food and Dreidel the rabbit emerges from a nasty neighborhood fight as “Dreidelface.”

Welcome back to the Rock 'n Roll Ghost Podcast. On this week's episode, the Ghost speaks with filmmaker Tim Bogart (Spinning Gold). Tim is the son of Casablanca Records co-founder Neil Bogart and Spinning Gold tells his father's bold and wild story in the music business, warts and all. Casablanca was home to Donna Summers, KISS, Parliament-Funkadelic and the Village People to name a few of the hugely successful artists on the label. Tim discusses staying true to who his father was, even if that meant tackling his legacy accurately - good or bad. Spinning Gold was originally going to be a Broadway show, but shifted to a film that, at one point, was going to star Justin Timberlake as Neil. He also touches on working with his siblings to get the film to the screen. Spinning Gold is in theaters now. “My father's life was a very visible one,” says writer/director Timothy Scott Bogart, son of 1970s record producer Neil Bogart, the co-founder of Casablanca Records. “That was my playground. I grew up, literally backstage at these concerts.” Neil Bogart signed such artists as Donna Summer, George Clinton, KISS, the Isley Brothers, the Village People, and Gladys Knight. “The storytelling I saw being done as a child was infectious. Everything that they did was creating something beyond just the music. I just fell in love with it.” At the age of 12, Timothy's father died. Perhaps looking for a creative outlet, he actually wrote his first screenplay at this young age. “It was terrible,” he jokes, “but it was 120 pages, it actually had a beginning, middle, and end. I think all of it was an escape. I got lost in the fantasy and loved making little movies and writing little stories.” Timothy credits “being exposed to that extraordinary visual world [his father] created” as the foundation for what led to his career as a Producer, Screenwriter, and Director. “Almost everything I did had somebody struggling with loss,” he says in hindsight. I kept doing stories about other things, but ultimately, they were about children struggling with the loss of a parent.” Only a year or two after the death of his father, Timothy recalls people “banging on the door trying to get the rights” to his father's life story. The family wasn't ready to share this information. They turned down Broadway musicians, television shows, and movies. “As I started looking at this as being something I wanted to do with my life, I took on the mantle of being responsible of being the guy saying ‘No.' Part of that was, I didn't know what it was.” After decades of pondering what the story could be and how it might be best represented, Timothy decided to take on the responsibility himself, as the writer and director of Spinning Gold, the story of Neil Bogart. What do Donna Summer, Parliament, Gladys Knight, The Isley Brothers, The Village People, and Bill Withers all have in common with the rock band KISS? They all rose to their musical heights under the watchful ear of the music industry's most colorful and brilliant music producer, Neil Bogart, founder of Casablanca Records, the most successful independent record company of all time. Along with a rag tag team of young music lovers, Neil and Casablanca Records would rewrite history and change the music industry forever. Their mix of creative insanity, a total belief in each other and the music they were creating, shaped our culture and ultimately defined a generation. In a story so unbelievable that it can only be true, comes the motion picture event of the musical journey of Neil Bogart and how his Casablanca Records created the greatest soundtrack of our lives. Some of today's hottest music stars are playing the icons who inspired them and singing their most popular songs including Grammy and Golden Globe nominee Wiz Khalifa as George Clinton, Jason Derulo as Ron Isley of the Isley Brothers, Pink Sweat$ as Bill Withers, Grammy Award nominee Tayla Parx as Donna Summer and multi-Grammy winner Ledisi as Gladys Knight. Spinning Gold features an all-star cast including Tony Award nominee Jeremy Jordan (Newsies, Bonnie & Clyde), Michelle Monaghan (Mission: Impossible franchise, Gone Baby Gone), Jay Pharoah (Saturday Night Live, Bad Hair), Tony Award winner Dan Fogler (The Walking Dead, The Goldbergs), Jason Issacs (the Harry Potter franchise, The Death of Stalin, The Patriot), Lyndsy Fonseca (Kick-Ass, Hot Tub Time Machine), Chris Redd (Saturday Night Live), Casey Likes (Almost Famous on Broadway), and comedian/actor Sebastian Maniscalco (The Irishman). From the early/mid 70s through the 80s, there was no independent record label that did as much to turn the music industry on it's ear more than Casablanca Records. Founded by Neil Bogart and Cecil Holmes, the label launched the careers of KISS, The Village People, Donna Summer, Parliament and so many more…as well as pumping out the soundtrack of the disco era. And now a new movie that tells the story of those heady days, Spinning Gold, is hitting theaters this Friday and we talked to stars Jay Pharoah and Jeremy Jordan this morning about it…which then evolved into talk about the “good old days” of radio!
This week, we have a mini-episode from the press junket for SPINNING GOLD, the true story of Casablanca Records. It's set in the swinging seventies and features the music of KISS, P-Funk, Donna Summer, and many more. Staci chatted with the film's director, Tim Bogart; the star, Jeremy Jordan, who plays Casablanca's founder, Neil Bogart; and Tayla Parx, who portrays Donna Summer. In honor of the KISS connection, the show concludes with a reading from Rock & Roll Nightmares: True Stories, Vol 2, about one of the many times Gene Simmons accidentally set his hair on fire while performing onstage.
Spring is upon us. The flowers are blooming, the lawn needs cutting and your allergies are depriving you of oxygen. That's why we took a look at the season's entertainment options so you'll have something to watch while you stay indoors away from the pollen. First we've got the fantasy adventure "Dungeons and Dragon: Honor Among Thieves" which stars Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez and Hugh Grant. It's based on the role-playing game, but is it fun? We'll let you know. Then there's "Moving On" starring Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin as two old friends who reconnect at a funeral and decide to get revenge on the widower who messed with them decades before. And for real film buffs there's the documentary "Kubrick by Kubrick" which features a treasure trove of unearthed interview recordings from the master himself. Plus there's "Spinning Gold" which is a musical journey of Neil Bogart and how his Casablanca Records created the greatest soundtrack of our lives. For Streaming buffs we have "The Night Agent" which is a new Netflix series about low-level FBI agent, Peter Sutherland, who works in the basement of the White House manning a phone that never rings--until the night it does--propelling him into a conspiracy that leads all the way to the Oval Office. And we've got "The Lost King" which is based on the true story about an amateur historian who defied the stodgy academic establishment in her efforts to find King Richard III's remains, which were lost for over 500 years. And there's even more, so take another dose of Benadryl and listen in!This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/4137244/advertisement

It's a colorful and lively edition of #BTLRadioShow thanks to writer/director MOSTAFA KESHVARI who joins us live talking about his new film COLORBLIND. Plus, writer/director TIM BOGART dives into the making of what quickly became one of my fave films of the year, SPINNING GOLD! Joining us live at the top of the show is writer/director MOSTAFA KESHVARI discussing his new film, the exquisite and powerful COLORBLIND. The story of a colorblind mother and son facing racial and social injustices, COLORBLIND speaks to us literally, figuratively, and metaphorically. A fascinating aspect of the production is that the film was developed by color scientists to accurately display colorblindness and metaphorically address racism. Take a listen as Mostafa discusses the science and the cinematic art that came together for COLORBLIND. And then, get ready, because you'll hear my prerecorded exclusive interview with writer/director TIM BOGART talking about his new film opening on Friday – SPINNING GOLD. One of my fave films of the year, this is the story of legendary music producer and founder of Casablanca Records, Neil Bogart. For all the youngsters out there, this is the man who created and shepherded some of music's greatest legends – Donna Summer, KISS, Gladys Knight, George Clinton, The Isley Brothers, just to name a few. Making Tim uniquely qualified to tell this story is that he is Neil's son. Visually exciting and period perfect in hair, make-up and costuming covering several decades, one of the real joys of SPINNING GOLD is the story structure as the film is written as if Neil Bogart himself was telling his life story. As many already know, and as you will see in the film and hear Tim talk about, Neil Bogart was the consummate showman and storyteller which makes this approach to the film pitch perfect. http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com

Jeremy Jordan is probably best known for his Tony and Grammy-nominated portrayal of Jack Kelly in “Newsies” on Broadway, as well as his many roles on television including series regulars on CW's “Supergirl”, NBC's “Smash” and Disney Channel's “Tangled.” And now he leads a star-studded cast as the tenacious record industry giant Neil Bogart in the epic new feature film “Spinning Gold.” On this episode, he talks about how finding a character's physicality and where they hold tension informs his preparation, the importance of letting every single moment of a performance tell the story, why he's still getting used to the non-transient nature of film, how having a child opened him in ways nothing else could, and much more. Take a minute to think about Joan Jett. More than one song. More than just "I Love Rock and Roll", as great as that radio song is. She's called “The Queen of Rock ‘n' Roll” and “The Godmother of Punk.” Let's think about the rock and roll in her catalog and the influences she ultimately passed along. In the podcast, we talk about her career and how - somehow - she's may even be a bit undervalued as one of the rock and roll greats. Jett's self-titled solo debut was released in Europe in 1980. In the US, the is that after the album was rejected by 23 major labels, so Jett and and manager Kenny Laguna formed Blackheart Records and released it independently - started with Laguna's daughter's college savings - sometimes selling the albums out of the trunk of Laguna's car after a show. They eventually made a deal with Casablanca Records head Neil Bogart, and he signed Jett to his new label, Boardwalk Records and re-released the Joan Jett album as Bad Reputation. That statement and that song - what Joan Jett sang about - "I don't give a damn about…" was what she became. That's the image she made real. It is her brand. It cements her place as an integral part of the melding of punk rock and rock and roll. Vincent Pastore on Game Changers With Vicki Abelson I usually know our guests... it's always a little nerve-wracking to meet someone for the first time Live on the air. Before we even hit the interweb airwaves, I felt like I'd known Vinny forever and he was one of my dearest friends. That's a gift. I still can't believe how much fun that was. It seemed with every sentence we were discovering another mutual friend. From Vin's rock n' roll daze, as the purveyor of the Crazy Horse, extra work, Law and Order, Goodfellas, Carlito's Way, scoring a major role opposite Alan Arkin in The Jerky Boys, Gotti, to the game changer, Big Pussy in The Sopranos… stories, stories, stories… James Gandolfini, Michael Imperioli, Steve Schirripa (his cohorts in Conversations with the Sopranos - coming soon to a city near you), Tony Sirrico, Aida Turturro, Al Pacino, Robert Deniro, Cathy Moriarity, Armand Assanti, Tony Danza, Marilu Henner, theatre, his Broadway debut in Bullets Over Broadway (which I saw), Woody Allen, Chicago with Aida Turturro, teaching at HB Studios, studying with Bill Hickey (me too), Gangster Squad, his band, also coming soon to a venue near you, Celebrity Apprentice, One Life to Live, General Hospital, Birthday Cake with Paul Sorvino, streaming now (I'll be watching tonight!), Spinning Gold, about Neil Bogart, and Don Q starring Armand Assante, both in the can, and his upcoming Gravesend, also starring Chazz Palminteri and Fran Drescher, there was what to talk about. Including real-life wiseguys, pizza, and stuff that goes south. I had the best time. Still high, and I ain't smoked in years. That makes one of us. I adore this man. He'll be back! Þriðja plata KISS heitir Dressed to kill og kom hún út í mars 1975, rúmu ári eftir að frumburður þeirra leit dagsins ljós. Í þetta skiptið var það Neil Bogart, forstjóri Casablanca útgáfunnar sem stjórnaði upptökum. Bandið hafði ekki náð því flugi sem Bogart hafði vonað og í raun var útgáfufélag hans að tapa gríðarlegum peningum hvern þann dag sem leið. Núna varð bara eitthvað að gerast. "Getið þið ekki búið til eitthvað gott "anthem" lag?" spurði Bogart. Tjahh....við gætum reynt. The rest is history. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Það er ágúst 1974 og okkar menn eru á fullu að fylgja eftir fyrstu plötunni sinni sem kom út í febrúar sama ár. Hún var ekki að seljast nægilega vel. Neil Bogart eigandi og forstjóri Casablanca útgáfunnar sendi "strákana sína" því lóðbeint í hljóðverið á ný til að taka upp næstu plötu til að freista þess að "bústa" upp söluna og stækka bandið. Þá voru KISS staddir í Los Angeles við tónleikahald. Þeir voru því sendir í næsta hljóðver til að tappa af sér næstu plötu enda kreditkortið hans Bill Aucoin í botni, eitthvað varð að gerast. Úr varð platan Hotter than hell, þeirra önnur breiðskífa og kom hún út þann 22.október þetta sama ár og frumburður þeirra, 1974. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Thai cover version of Elvis' "Little Sister" Silver Apples - Oscillations (1968) Silver Apples - Program (1968) Silver Apples - I Don't Care What The People Say (1998) Silver Apples- You and I (1969) Decades after their brief yet influential career ground to a sudden halt due to being sued for exorbitant amounts by Pan Am Airlines, Silver Apples remain one of pop music's true enigmas: a surreal, almost unprecedented duo, their music explored interstellar drones and hums, pulsing rhythms and electronically-generated melodies years before similar ideas were adopted in the work of acolytes ranging from Suicide to Spacemen 3 to Laika. Silver Apples was formed in New York in 1967 and comprised percussionist Danny Taylor and lead vocalist Simeon, who played an instrument also dubbed the Simeon, which (according to notes on the duo's self-titled 1968 debut LP) consisted of "nine audio oscillators and eighty-six manual controls... The lead and rhythm oscillators are played with the hands, elbows and knees and the bass oscillators are played with the feet." Although the utterly uncommercial record — an ingenious cacophony of beeps, buzzes, and beats — sold poorly, the Silver Apples resurfaced a year later with their sophomore effort, 'Contact', another far-flung outing which fared no better than its predecessor. This record's cover, depicting the duo in the cockpit of a Pan Am airplane, resulted in a legal battle that left the band unable to continue recording and releasing music. However, in 1996 the Silver Apples resurfaced, as Simeon and new partner Xian Hawkins released the single "Fractal Flow." American and European tours followed, and a year later a new LP, 'Beacon', was released to wide acclaim. Simeon Coxe died on September 8, 2020. Wendy & Bonnie - The Winter Is Cold (1969) From Under The Radar: Genesis, released in 1969, was the one and only album from sisters Wendy and Bonnie Flower. The San Francisco-based siblings were 18 and 15 at the time the album was originally released, and the music of Genesis belies their tender ages. The songs on Genesis are light psychedelic folk, reminiscent of artists like The Free Design, Tim Buckley, and, to a certain degree, fellow Californians, The Mamas and the Papas. The sisters' harmonies are the main draw, floating into the ether above the airy soundscapes. While songs like “Let Yourself Go Another Time” and “The Winter Is Cold” are upbeat and jaunty, most of Genesis is restrained beauty. The album has been championed of late by artists the likes of Jarvis Cocker, Stereolab, and Super Furry Animals, the latter of which sampled the gentle Wendy & Bonnie paean “By the Sea” in the opening of its 2003 song, “Hello Sunshine.” Unfortunately, at the time of its initial release, Genesis did not find as impressive a following. Shortly after the album was released, and amid promotion for the record that included an aborted slot on The Merv Griffin Show, the group's record label, Skye Records, dissolved due to bankruptcy. Subsequently, Wendy and Bonnie Flower faded into seeming obscurity. Then my show came along. This show opens with Cal Tjader, who co-owned Skye Records along with being an in-demand percussionist. he was a family friend that thought the young girls would benefit from not being thrust into the pop scene without a guiding hand on their team. But when the label went belly-up, Bonnie went off to college. I like most of this album. I wonder how many other hidden masterpieces got snuffed out before they got a chance to be heard by a wider audience. I mean these two teenagers, 15 and 18, got pretty far relatively speaking. Even for the time. Wendy and Bonnie - By the Sea (1969) Wendy and Bonnie - Five O'Clock In the Morning (1969) Wendy and Bonnie - Let Yourself Go Another Time (1969) Yardbirds - Knowing That I'm Losing You (Tangerine) (1968) Yardbirds - White Summer (1968) The Yardbirds - Glimpses (1967) The Yardbirds - Dazed and Confused (1968) Eric Burdon & The Animals - Orange And Red Beam (1968) Freee Fall - Big Mack Truck -????? That's really how it's spelled. Recorded "live" onboard Norwegian Cruise Liners and, as the name states, intended for the passenger/tourist audiences. I enlarged the back cover because it's amazing. Apparently Norwegian gave these passenger-only records as gifts. I gotta get some more. Brandon Wade - Letter From a Teenage Son (1967) Bulldog - Rock & Roll Hootchi Coo (1974) Rick Derringer (the composer) spelled it "Hoochie Koo". Believe it or not, it had been rendered on vinyl three times before his own recording in 1973 became his biggest hit (by far). It was first recorded in 1970 by Johnny Winter and his band, Johnny Winter And, of which Derringer was a member. In 1973, Derringer recorded a solo version, which was his only Top 40 chart hit as a solo artist in the U.S. It became a staple of 1970s radio and rock music compilations. The song was initially recorded by Johnny Winter in 1970 with his band "Johnny Winter And", which included Rick Derringer and other former members of The McCoys, Derringer's previous band ("Hang On Sloopy" was their biggest hit...by far.). In 1970, they recorded the song during the Live Johnny Winter And tour, which was released as Live at the Fillmore East 10/3/70. Winter and Derringer later recorded the song with Winter's brother for Edgar Winter's White Trash live 1972 album Roadwork. Bulldog was an obscure spinoff of The Rascals that formed in 1971. Gene Cornish and Dino Danelli, after leaving their successful act behind, signed with Decca Records. That first album sank without a trace, and their contract with Decca came to an abrupt end and Bulldog spent the majority of 1973 trying to avoid the oldies circuit that had started swallowing up their contemporaries. They signed with Neil Bogart's Buddha Records in 1974 and released Smasher. Perhaps Buddha's primary reputation for bubblegum and novelty records can explain why this release was virtually ignored upon its release. The album sank without even a slight showing on the Billboard charts and Bulldog was dead by early 1975. Cornish and Danelli would resurface a few years later, teaming up with Wally Bryson (Raspberries) in the power-pop act, Fotomaker. Though they issued several albums, they too were dealt a merciless death, leaving Cornish and Danelli on the oldies circuit in a revived lineup of The Rascals. They would later be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame along with the rest of their former bandmates that they had worked so hard to extricate themselves from. Rick Derringer rererererecorded the song in 2012, a new version of the song with lyrics reflecting his Christian beliefs. Titled "Read the Word and Live It Too". He supported Trump. So f him. Cledus Maggard - Virgil And The $300 Vacation (1976) I've played Cledus Maggard and The Citizen's Band on my show once before, playing the song "The White Knight" on my CB Radio show. Leslie Podkin - You Won't Need No Money (1961) Ogo - Marijuana [Guam] (?) Roy E. Baker - Ballad Of The Abortion Child (A Love Letter From Heaven) (1974) Obituary: Roy “Boy” Edward Baker, age 85 of Knoxville, passed away Saturday, August 30, 2014. Roy was born May 28, 1929, in the coal mining town of Hazard, KY to Gilbert and Mahalia Baker. It was growing up in Hazard that he picked up the nickname “Roy Boy.” He was never able to shake the nickname and it has followed him throughout his life. He was affectionately known as “Roy Boy” by the many friends that loved him so. As a boy, Roy was a Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer all rolled into one. In the small coal-mining where he lived, people worked hard and went to bed early. At night, Roy Boy would slip out of a bedroom window just to wake the town by ringing the church bell. He was the epitome of mischief. His father was a coal miner and Roy grew up expecting that he would follow in those footsteps. It didn't take him long to decide he needed to pursue something else. “I worked a half-day in a coal mine where donkeys drug the coal out. I decided that was not the life for me,” he said. Roy left the coal mining town where he grew up and continued to have a career with General Motors in the tool and die industry. An accomplished musician playing piano, guitar, banjo, drums, and the bull-fiddle, Roy enjoyed many years as a musician, singer, and songwriter. While working for General Motors, he often played musical shows on weekends. The name “Roy Boy” became his stage name. As a movie actor, he played the part of a coal miner in the movie “October Sky,” which was partly filmed in Knoxville and Oliver Springs. When he was nine years old, Roy began drawing cartoons and selling them to his classmates in Hazard. A true patriot of America, Roy continued to use his talents drawing pictures that exemplified his patriotic love of God and country. On any given day you could find him sharing his art with friends at fast-food restaurants. His trademark was the patriotic clothing that he designed and wore in support of America. His iconic little red and white striped truck proudly displayed the American flag and could be seen in parades and events all over East Tennessee. His support for humanitarian projects was recognized and honored in various circles. He was recognized as the Man of the Year in Abstract Art by the city of Knoxville in 2007. The British North-American Act - Corduroy Coat (1969)
tribute to a pioneering figure in the RnB, soul, disco and funk music…that helped shape up the careers of many top acts. His name is Mr. Cecil Holmes. Born and raised in New York City… Started singing doo-wop in ‘52 for the bands, Cavaliers, Fi-Tones and Solitaires. In the E60s, Cecil left performing and joined the business side of the recording industry. Barely in his 20s, he co-founded RMH Productions. His personality was a natural fit for promotion and sales which proved to be right.. Throughout the 60’s he worked for Columbia and later as a Regional Manager for Mercury Records… promoting the artists Clyde McPhatter, Bobby Byrd, Dee Dee Warwick, and Mack Rice. His next stop was Cameo-Parkway Records where he began a friendship with Neil Bogart. In 1967 they moved to Buddah Records….whe he as a VP signed the Impressions, Edwin Hawkins Singers, the Five Stairsteps and Gladys Knight & the Pips. Thru Buddah records, he also distributed Curtom, T-Neck, Hot Wax, and Sussex Records which had many big names in the black music genre. While at Buddah Records, he produced 2 albums under the name "The Cecil Holmes Soulful Sounds," in 1973. The following year, Cecil relocated to LA to join Neil Bogart for his next venture, Casablanca Records. As one of the original founding partners, Cecil helped launch the label with albums by KISS and Parliament. He also worked closely with the Pips, the Sylvers, Hugh Masekela and he helped Donna Summer, Village People and other disco artists to worldwide success. While working as VP od Casablnca, in 1975, Cecil premiered his own custom label...Chocolate City... named after Parliament's album "Chocolate City". At Chocolate City he had biggest success with the band Cameo…and he also signed Brenda & the Tabulations, Vernon Burch, Randy Brown, Starpoint, 7th Wonder and Kevin Moore (later known as Keb’ Mo). In 1980, Neil Bogart and Cecil Holmes sold Casablanca records to PolyGram. After that, Cecil joined CBS Records as VP for both Columbia and Epic Records. He worked with top acts like Earth, Wind & Fire, Mtume, and Luther Vandross. A few years later, Cecil and Larkin Arnold signed New Kids on the Block to Columbia Records…which brought him the biggest worldwide success. Stay safe, G

Regardless of the much-hyped manipulations behind the scenes, she was a willing participant and took full advantage of her success up until the point she wrestled herself away from Neil Bogart's Casablanca records leaving a legacy that up until that point — no other female artist had achieved. Today, Donna Summer has a legion of fans both young and old and serves as an inspiration to many would-be female artists who whether they realize it or not — are deeply indebted to her trailblazing career. The Queen is no stranger to Party Favorz, who ranks her at the top of our leading ladies along with Diana Ross and Cher. This tribute set focuses on her work in the 90's through the early millennium and takes a deep dive into updated versions of her back catalog. If many of these tracks are unfamiliar to you or your era was the 70's — look no further than the Casablanca Years set I put out in 2015. There you will find all of her radio and club hits in probably one of the best tribute sets ever laid down honoring the Queen. [youtube v="sLFVMOSdHRQ"] When the word "Ultimate" is dropped into the title of one of these series — it's because it's comprehensive and really long. Leaving no stone unturned, I poured through countless bootlegs and official remixes to put this thing together. Many of the songs on here may be new to even her most ardent supporters. These past couple of Diva Series I've put out have been a bitch to mix and this one was no exception. There's a vast array of styles here from modern-day electro-pop to circuit tribal house and straight up funky house. Yet, it all feels cohesive and frankly — just works. Without further ado, ladies and queers, I present to you...Miss Donna Summer! ENJOY! Album : Donna Summer | The Ultimate Diva Series Genre : Circuit, Funky House Year : 2020 Total Time : 03:27:33 1. Rock Talk With Mitch Lafon presents revered British pop icon, Peter Noone (recorded at the end of 2019). Peter discusses his extensive yearly touring schedule, being a music enthusiast, the beginnings of Herman's Hermits, songwriting, The Beatles & more, finding their place in a crowded radio marketplace, lyrics then and now, personal choice, working on Broadway, The Tremblers, a Farewell tour, his love of music, Casablanca Records, Neil Bogart, Tom Petty, Jimmy Page & John Paul Jones playing on Herman's Hermit songs and much much more. On getting started in music: "I started off as an enthusiast of music. I bought records and went to see live music. I knew lots of people who were in groups that played in their sister's attic and the little local nightclubs. One day, I found myself in a band where I was not just and enthusiast, but a participant." On a possible Farewell Tour: "I'm more like Mick Jagger. Arrogantly believing that I can pull it off for at least another ten years... Music is my hobby. When I hang up the phone with you, I'm going to play some music. That's what I do. When I'm in my car driving to a gig, I listen to music. Some people listen to the world news. I don't. I listen to music. And enjoy it, and smile and sing along and dislike and love and all of those things. So, why would I want to stop doing that?" On Neil Bogart: "I don't know how good he was at business, but he was a great character." On Coronation Street, he jokingly says, "I was in it in 1961 and it's still the number one show in England even without me in it." He’s 1970s records mogul Neil Bogart’s cousin—and a co-founder of legendary Casablanca Records—for heaven’s sake, and boy, does he have a great story to tell. Reading his new book, And Party Every Day: The Inside Story of Casablanca Records, is to be transported back to the wild early days of the rock band KISS, the origins of disco, Donna Summer and Giorgi

Roberta Flack y su extraordinario “Killing Me Softly With His Song”. En 1983 grabaron juntos, consiguiendo el éxito «Tonight, I Celebrate My Love». Otra que no podemos dejar pasar es “On The Radio” Inevitablemente tenemos que oir, aunque sea un poco “She Works hard for the money”. The Jackson 5: "Never Can Say Goodbye" ("Nunca puedo decir adiós"). You Know I'm No Good

You Know I'm No Good

Episode 133, July 7, 2015. Three main topics this week… Book reviews of Me Inc. by Gene Simmons and the Neil Bogart biography Going Platinum… Did the success of KISS Alive! fuel the explosion of disco music?…. Our comments about the Ros Radley episode that we pulled down. Why we did it and our feelings […]
One of the most popular KISS-related shows we've done was our GPS: KISS Landmarks episode with special guest host Chris Epting. Chris is well-versed in KISS, pop culture, and travel as he's written books on all three. He also now hosts a great new music talk show that you can access HERE. We had such a great response to that episode that we knew we had to do a part 2 for this year's KISSMAS in JULY. We're fortunate that Chris was equally enthusiastic about coming back to discuss KISS Landmarks. So, let's crank up the engine and hit the highway! 1 Washington Blvd Detroit, MI 48226 - Cobo Hall A very pivotal location in KISS’ history. Most well-known for a sold-out 3 night stand in January of 1976, Cobo was one of the hosts of the Alive! album and was a meeting place for the blue-collar faithful that made up KISS’ early fan base. Cobo Hall It’s also worth noting that it was the host venue for 1984’s Animalize Live/Uncensored performance as well as the venue chosen for the kickoff of the Alive 35 tour in 2009. 238 Bagley Avenue, Detroit, MI - MichiganPalace Another well-known marker of KISS’ early Detroit dominance, the Michigan Palace was built in 1926 as a movie theater and hosted KISS on their earliest American tours. Michigan Palace location It was also a beneficial presence for KISS’ promotional efforts as it was utilized for the videos for Rock N Roll All Nite and C’mon & Love Me as well as the cover photo for the Alive! album shot by Fin Costello. The majority of the structure was torn down but the ornate ceilings can still be seen above the parking garage that sits in its place today. Corner of 23rd & 8th, NYC – Dressed to Kill Cover site. The only non-structure on our list, this street corner will always big popular in the annals of KISStory. In 1975, a then-struggling KISS was working on a creative photo shoot with legendary New York photographer Bob Gruen. Inspiration struck during this shoot and the members of the band were in quick need of some business suits. Peter, being the only one that actually owned a suit, looked spiffy on this cover but the rest of the band looked awkward due to having to borrow manager Bill Aucoin’s duds and Gene borrowing Gruen’s wife’s clogs. It’s a strange album cover for sure but always a destination for KISS fans visiting the Big Apple. 1255 Hempstead Turnpike Uniondale, NY 11553 - Nassau Coliseum While Madison Square Garden will probably always be the crown jewel of New York rock concerts, Uniondale’s Nassau Coliseum has a special place in KISStory from a special time. On 12/31/1975, the band was presented with their first gold album awards prior to taking the stage. Nassau Coliseum Also of note for this concert was the fact that Blue Oyster Cult were the opening act. This was symbolic in the fact that a year prior, KISS was opening in this venue for BOC. This took place 2 years to the day of their first public performance at the Academy of Music. A true crossroads for the band on their way to superstardom. 3500 Sports Arena Boulevard, San Diego, CA 92110 – San Diego Sports Arena Now known as the Valley View Casino Center, the San Diego Sports Arena was host to many classic rock bands from the 1970’s and KISS is no exception. Built in 1966, the arena has hosted numerous sporting events as well as notable concerts by acts like Jimi Hendrix, Tina Turner and Metallica. San Diego Sports Arena San Diego Sports Arena fits in the KISS ether by way of one very famous photograph. The gatefold image of KISS in full bombastic glory from the Alive II album has always been a stern message to other bands to “Top this!” While it’s one of the most iconic photos in rock history, it’s origin location is refuted by the original photographer. Barry Levine has claimed in interviews that the photo was not snapped at Sports Arena but, in fact, at L.A.’s Forum. Regardless of where it was taken, it still makes many say “Wow” upon first glance. 254 West 54th Street, New York, NY 10019 – Studio 54 Studio 54 will always be strongly tied to the disco era. The Manhattan haven for debauchery was an escape for many well known celebrities from the entertainment and fashion worlds including members of KISS. Paul Stanley was actually inspired to write ‘I Was Made for Lovin’ You’ after a night at 54 listening to pulsating disco beats that were on top of the charts. Studio 54 Also of KISS note, Studio 54 was the host venue for one of the only times that band performed as a trio. KISS were set to lip-synch to the song ‘I’ from the Music from The Elder album during a live satellite broadcast for the San Remo Festival in Italy in January 1982. Ace Frehley was a no-show and the band had to soldier on despite his absence. A very strange location for a very strange performance from a very strange album. Strange, indeed. Cascais Hall, Lisbon Portugal After taking a huge leap of faith by unmasking on MTV in 1983, KISS decided to go half a world away to break in the fresh-faced version of the band. Located. literally, in a highly vegetated jungle-like atmosphere, KISS unveiled their new look for the Lick it Up tour at Cascais Hall in Lisbon, Portugal. Cascais Hall, Lisbon As evidenced by the footage on KISSOLOGY Volume 2, the Portuguese fans were a bit surprised by the band’s new appearance but were quickly won over by the energetic ferocity that they still brought to the stage. T C Industrial Park, Depew NY, 14043 – Borden Ink Plant (Marvel Comics) By 1977, KISS were keenly aware of what it took to generate press attention. They took full advantage of a good story by flying out to the Borden Ink Plant near Buffalo, NY to pour viles of their own blood into the red ink for use in their upcoming Marvel comic. Borden Ink, Depew NY Marvel master Stan Lee was on hand as well as a notary and members of the press. This was an iconic moment in the band’s history and it also ushered in the saturation of non-musical merchandise that was to come. 1 Stuart St Binghamton, New York 13901 – Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena We’re sure a lot of KISS fans are wondering what Binghampton, NY could possibly have to do with Kisstoric landmarks. Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena was built in 1973 and has hosted a number of notable events including a pair of Elvis’ final concerts. Broome County Arena, Binghampton NY Of KISS note, it is the only venue to feature a full Mark St. John KISS performance. Struggling with Reiter’s Syndrome, St. John was sidelined for most of the Animalize tour and played a couple of split shows with then-replacement member Bruce Kulick. But in Binghampton, St. John would play the entire set. Being a rather small arena, only a select number of fans got to witness one very unique and short-lived lineup of KISS. 100 1st Avenue Nashville TN - Riverfront Park Fresh off the release of KISS My Ass: Classic KISS Regrooved, the band was only playing a handful of U.S. dates in 1994. Decibel Gee’s own Chris Czynszak was fortunate enough to see one of them. Riverfront Park, Nashville TN Headlining the Gibson Guitars 100th Anniversary concert, KISS played after an eclectic mix of artists including Pat Travers, Brother Cane, and Fleetwood Mac. The band threw down a musical gauntlet without the use of pyro or flashy stage effects. Performing on a floating stage, the band pulled out a barrage of heavy and obscure tunes that had the diehards panting for more. Truly a unique concert in KISStory. 1000 Elysian Park Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90012 - DodgerStadium After record-breaking attendance numbers on the reunion tour or 1996-97, KISS were determined to assault the media with the launch of new album and tour Psycho Circus. On Halloween night of 1998, the band received wall-to-wall coverage on the FOX Network due to their guesting on numerous shows including Mad TV and Millenium. Dodger Stadium The network also aired the beginning of a raucous concert at Los Angeles’ Dodger Stadium. While the merits of the album and pre-tour hype are hot-button topics for any KISS fan, it’s pretty clear that this venue, on this night, hosted a band that had truly returned to form. 8255 Sunset Boulevard Los Angeles, California 90046 – Casablanca Records Offices Soon to be documented by a Hollywood film and already documented by the great book by Larry Harris, Casablanca Records Offices were abuzz in the 1970’s in more ways than one. Casablanca Records Site With cocaine running rampant and hype spilling out of every corner thanks to the enthusiasm of label owner Neil Bogart, the Casablanca Offices provide a perfect example of the phrase “If walls could talk.” There are some famous photos in KISS-fan circles of the large billboard outside the building that would regularly feature KISS album advertisements. 3000 West Alameda Avenue, Burbank, California – NBC Studios This location is famous for some of the biggest moments in television history; The Tonight Show being one of the biggest. But, for KISS fans, this sacred ground is the site of one of KISS’ most explosive television appearances. NBC Studios Site On 4/1/1975, KISS ripped through a handful of future-classics in front of a slack-jawed audience on The Midnight Special. This fiery performance included loads of energy by the front three as well as machine gun-like drumming from Peter Criss as well as Chris totally trashing his drum kit at the end of the set (a la Keith Moon). This footage is a great way to show a newbie how powerful KISS was in the early days. 483 George St Sydney NSW 2000, Australia – Sydney Town Hall While KISS’ popularity was certainly waning in the United States in 1980 after a big change in sound and a personnel change at drummer, the band was massive in Australia. The KISS tour of Australia in 1980 was as close to Beatlemania as a band could get. Sidney Town Hall Playing soccer stadiums, making front page news every day, and parties that seemed to never end, the band had their official welcome on the balcony of Sydney Town Hall looking down on thousands of fans that had gathered to get a glimpse of their heroes. 2121 Trumbull St., Detroit, MI 48216 – Tiger Stadium If there was ever one place that every KISS fan wanted to be it was Detroit’s Tiger Stadium on June 28th, 1996. Paul, Gene, Ace, and Peter finally delivered on what so many fans had dreamed of; a full reunion with the original band. Tiger Stadium Site Playing to a massive sold out audience, KISS was there to say “Meet the new boss….same as the old boss” 8852 W Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90069 – The Viper Room Guest host Chris Epting has a personal KISS connection to this venue and the next. The Viper Room was the venue that Chris and his son were allowed to interview all four members of KISS on August 13, 2012. The Viper Room The band were there to unveil the massive Monster book. Chris and his son had a special moment with the band as Gene took note of the strong father and son bond that had connected the two through the love of the band. 6300 Pacific Coast Hwy, Redondo Beach, CA - Rock and Brews Restaurant Closing out our discussion of KISS Landmarks is another location near and dear to Chris Epting. On May 13, 2013 the band performed and impromptu 3 song set at the grand opening of Rock and Brews PCH location. Rock & Brews PCH Not using their trademark gear, the band performed with the gear that was laying around but still pulled off an energetic set that had KISS fans in the crowd excited. We close out the show with an exclusive audio clip of KISS performing ‘Hotter Than Hell.’ Buy Music! Throughout the 1970s, '80s, and '90s, Stephanie Mills established herself as a versatile powerhouse just as at home sultrily conveying a quiet-storm ballad as she was belting out gospel-rousing lines on the Broadway stage. Even now, her live shows draw captive audiences longing to hear favorites ranging from her signature number, "Home" (from Broadway's The Wiz),to late '70s/early '80s soul-disco gems ("Never Knew Love Like This Before," "Sweet Sensation," "Two Hearts") and late-'80s/early-'90s anthems ("I Feel Good All Over," "Something in the Way You Make Me Feel," and "Comfort of a Man"). One important phase of Mills' career, however, has been frequently overlooked in both the history books and the singer's own concerts. From 1982 to 1984, the sophisticated chanteuse released three albums for the late Neil Bogart's Casablanca label, commencing with Tantalizingly Hot and concluding with I've Got the Cure.
It’s a food and sex fiesta today on the Mike & Judy Show, with guests Chef Carla Contreras and Ashley Montomery. Also hear from special guest Larry Harris, author of And Party Every Day: The Casablana Records Story who’s talks about the mishigas of working with his pal Neil Bogart and of course, Donna Summer. This program was sponsored by Roberta’s. “Donna didn’t get the credit she was due until [after her death]. For a couple of decades there, people weren’t really paying attention to her.” –Casablanca Records co-founder Larry Harris on The Mike & Judy Show
