What can working with Hollywood stars like Woody Harrelson and Rod Steward teach you about creativity in the workplace? In this episode of Career Can Do, Mary Ann Faremouth is joined by Nir Bashan, an award-winning entrepreneur with a long history of experience in advertising and entertainment. His message is clear: creativity is critical in the workplace. Everyone has the potential to be creative; it just takes a little effort and space to allow that creativity to flourish. Nir's book, The Creator Mindset, offers a recipe for success by encouraging individuals to make time for creativity in their daily lives. He suggests allocating time in your calendar specifically for creative thinking, as regular practice can lead to innovative solutions and a balanced approach to work. Nir highlights the importance of balancing creativity with analytics, as both are essential for personal and professional growth. Creativity is not limited to traditional artistic fields like music or film, nor is it limited to artistic types like painters and graphic artists. The heart of creativity in the workplace involves looking at problems from a different perspective and finding innovative solutions. By stepping outside your comfort zone and embracing discomfort, you can unlock new opportunities for growth and success. Nir also emphasizes the value of honesty and transparency in the hiring process. He encourages employers to look beyond the checkboxes on a resume and consider candidates' potential for growth and development. There's a massive, untapped talent pool filled with U.S. military veterans who bring valuable skills like discipline and adaptability to the workforce. Overall, Nir's message is clear: creativity, honesty, and a willingness to step outside your comfort zone are key ingredients for success in the new work world. Having a Creator Mindset that Will Change Your Business and Your Life It seems you can look at nearly any online magazine or traditional magazine or news paper and somewhere you are going to see the words AI...Artificial Intelligence. Sadly the world of AI and our own laziness is robbing us one of the most fundamental and superior abilities we have over the AI/Computer world...our creativity. We have lost our "Creator Mindset". What is the "Creator Mindset" you eagerly ask? It is opening your mind to the fact that we all have creative abilities. That within you is a creator and a creator mindset that you can bring into your business and life. And in this episode of A New Direction The Creator Mindset author Nir Bashon joins us to help you reopen your mind to being the creative creator you always have been. Nir Bashan's book, "The Creator Mindset: 92 Tools to Unlock the Secrets to Innovation, Growth, and Sustainability" is literally for every person and every business. He dispels all the myths that most people have around creativity and explains in a clear practical way how any of us can begin to be more creative. Nir also addresses the issue of AI and creativity and dismantles the idea that AI can on some fashion replace the creativity of humans. It simply cannot. AI can be a tool, but not a replacement for our creativity. Near also addresses a number of psychological issues when it comes to creativity, right brain/left brain, listening, negativity, and our ego for just a few. The book will change you. I promise. It changed me. One quote from the book that still stands out to me is this. "There is no problem that creativity cannot solve". Genius! In this episode, I'm talking with Nir Bashan, an author, speaker and world renowned expert around Creativity. From learning how to adapt his door-to-door car washing business at the age of 9 through his years in movies, music and advertising, Nir has studied and practiced what creativity is and how we can adjust what we do in order to get more business. And let's be clear. Creativity is not all about simply drawing pictures or writing songs. In our discussion we discuss matters such as why looking at the numbers is just not enough why we're born with innate creativity; and how positivity is the secret sauce that allows creativity to flourish. He also provides us with an overview of his iron clad system on how to manufacture new ideas. If you want to know more about Nir then take a look at his website Nirbashan.com or his bestselling book: The Creator Mindset So do check those out but for now sit back, relax, get creative and, most of all, enjoy.

As always, this episode of People at Work is brought to you by Jostle. Head over to www.jostle.me to start your free trial today. Be honest: how many of us get more excited about the box than the contents, like when we were little? Probably very few. But what if we could bring the joy that children get from creating spaceships, forts, and lemonade stands out of cardboard boxes, into our adult working lives? Nir Bashan thinks we should and we must. He’s a creativity expert who’s rejecting traditional business thinking in favour of creativity. It’s not that we don’t need analytics, it’s just that alone they don’t serve the long-term health and prosperity of organizations or their people. According to Nir, we’ve traded our creativity that we were born with for analytical skills at work. Nir joins me on People at Work to talk about what this means today and what we need to change for the future. Creativity isn’t reserved for artsy types. Creativity has a firm place at the helm of business and Nir is here to show us how. Give the episode a listen and see whether you can bring cardboard box thinking into your work life today. About our guest: Nir Bashan has taught thousands of leaders and individuals around the globe how to harness the power of creativity to improve business outcomes and create more meaning in their work. Nir has spent the last two decades working on a formula to codify creativity for business and he’s written about it in his book, The Creator Mindset. Nir is also a lifelong West Ham United fan. Every business focuses on pretty much the same thing...the numbers, or as we like to say, "the analytics". But like a doctor who can only prescribe medicine for the symptoms, the numbers, or analytics cannot get to the core of your issues and problems. What is more the number and analytics cannot solve your problems. But Creativity can! This is the problem with society in general today. Our schools, teachers and universities focus on left brain analytic training that is focused on getting the right answer...versus getting the most creative solution. The fact is business today is so left brain focus we have a tendency to not hire right brain people. And we certainly do not want to put those "creativity champions" in leadership. But the fact is if you want to be successful, if you want growth, if you want to get unstuck in your business and career there is only one way to get there...creativity. Thank fully creative expert and author of "The Creator Mindset" Nir Bashan joins us in this episode of A New Direction. The Creator Mindset is one of the most eye opening business books that you will ever read. The fact is we make the mistake of linking "art" and "music" with creativity. But those are only subsets of the creator mindset. If you want solutions to tomorrows problems it will come from The Creator Mindset and not another PowerPoint presentation filled with numbers. Nir Bashan's book "The Creator Mindset" will challenge you...but only if you are open to it and do not shut down your brain. It will open you to the fact that every single one of us has creative ability, but as with most of us we are so focused on the numbers on the left side of our brain our right side creative side is left dormant and in fact starts to wither like a plant without water. Think about this you have two halves of your brain, you have become so focused on using the left half, leaving the right half alone, you are only realizing half of your potential. It's time to relearn how to be creative. It's time to get "The Creator Mindset". Thank you to our sponsors! Epic Physical Therapy. Creativity is THE SECRET to our success- especially as more jobs are slated to get destroyed with the continuous tech advances. Creativity solves problems, advances our careers, improves our relationships, brings us fulfillment, and is the secret to getting ahead in life. The reality is that we are stuck in our thinking mind, which TURNS OFF creativity. The results? Most people walk around saying "I'm not a creative person." We stay stuck in our to do list, we work IN the business instead of on it, we're looking for what actions should I be taking, what product should I sell, what's the solution, etc. The answer? TRIGGER YOUR CREATIVITY- it will address all of your problems and change your life! Nir teaches that everyone is creative. He shows us how to turn off those doubts in our head, how to get OUT of our left analytical brain, and TURN ON creativity on demand! Everyone can do it, there is a system, and all of your problems can be solved! Learn how to lead in your industry, improve your fulfillment, feel passionate, stand out, become a most valuable asset, and be on the leading edge by unleashing your creativity! In this episode I have the pleasure of interviewing Nir Bashan. Nir Bashan is the founder and CEO of The Creator Mindset LLC, where he teaches business leaders around the world, how to harness the power of creativity to improve profitability, increase sales, and make work more meaningful. His clients include AT&T, Microsoft, Ace Hardware, The NFL Network, EA Sports, and JetBlue. He's also the author of newly released book, The Creator Mindset: 92 Tools to Unlock the Secrets to Innovation, Growth, and Sustainability If you Think creativity is just for “creative types”? Think again! Nir Bashan reveals why every business leader and professional has the capacity to be more creative. In today's episode, we'll get a chance to learn how we can all become more creative...in a business way. Here's Nir's big idea: Lots of companies proclaim their commitment to innovation. Yet, in business schools and professional training seminars, the lion's share of what's taught, places a priority on analysis, data, and spreadsheet logic. So why does this matter? What's the problem? The vast majority of bright and ambitious people are working at half their potential because they've only developed the analytical part of their thinking. Despite all the talk about innovation, people in business aren't taught how to think creatively. Sadly, creativity is often pigeonholed as a gift reserved for artistic types. As a result of our creativity deficit, careers are stalled and companies are grappling to compete and survive. Nir Bashan has devoted his career to the topic of how to train your mind to think more creatively. He offers practical, easy to apply tips for how you can unleash your creativity & in doing so find more joy and meaning from your work.

Nir is a world-renowned creativity expert who has worked with many big companies and clients, including Woody Harrelson, Rod Stewart, AT&T, Microsoft, Suzuki, and jetBlue. His recently published book, The Creator Mindset, was named one of Porchlight's top 40 business books of 2020. He offers lectures, workshops, and consulting to help businesses tap into their creativity to solve problems and grow. Nir has been working on cracking the creativity code since he was nine. He refused to believe that creativity is “just something people are born with” and after many years he's come to believe that everyone can access their creative potential, no matter what their field. It is, in fact, the key to success. He teaches people that they have the capability to solve problems if they access their own unique abilities. Numbers and data only give a snapshot of what's already happened. By accessing our creativity and focusing on the big idea, we can instead see what's possible as opposed to what has already been. Now let's get better together. Actions to Try or Advice to Take There's value in honesty. Bashan scoffs at “get rich quick” strategies. He values being honest above all, even if it affects his bottom line. Still, he's been able to make a good living and clients clearly value what he brings to the table. Stop looking outside for answers. The real solutions come from within, says Bashan. Strive for a balance between creativity and logical thinking. Most businesses put emphasis on hard data, but it's creativity that will help you solve problems and move forward. • Too many in business are letting their creativity languish, expert says • “Everything about creativity can be learned” Despite all the talk about innovation, people in business are not taught how to think creatively. As a result, many careers stall and companies are grappling to compete and survive. “Everything about creativity can be learned,” says creativity expert and business consultant Nir Bashan, author of the new book, “The Creator Mindset: 92 Tools to Unlock the Secrets to Innovation, Growth, and Sustainability (McGraw-Hill; August 2020). Mr. Bashan has a new way of thinking that he says bridges the gap between the brain's two hemispheres—the logic-driven left and the creative-inclined right to find innovative solutions to problems and achieve what he calls magnificent harmonious success. “Analytical skills are important. But in isolation they are damaging,” he says. “As we begin to unite the analytical and the creative, we learn how to be a more effective leader and create an environment that is ripe for opportunity and growth.” Nir Bashan talks about his research and some of his 92 ideas in this exclusive Bigngus podcast: You can also watch the interview on the Bizgnus YouTube channel here: https://tinyurl.com/y2hg6vhf Mr. Bashan is founder and CEO of The Creator Mindset LLC, based in Orlando, Florida. Why is the corporate fallback being “analytical” (as opposed to nurturing creativity)? Today I talked to Nir Bashan about his new book The Creator Mindset: 92 Tools to Unlock the Secrets to Innovation, Growth, and Sustainability (McGraw-Hill, 2020) Bashan is a creativity expert who has spent the past two decades devising a formula for sustained creativity. Besides his blue-chip corporate clients, Bashan has also worked on album, movies and advertisements for people like Rod Stewart and Woody Harrelson, won a Clio and been nominated for an Emmy. This is his first book. Topics covered in this episode include: Creativity's three unlikely personal traits (hint: courage is one of them). Why self-doubt and complacency are both threats to successful innovation, and how to overcome each in turn. Design obstacles Bashan has witnessed, plus five more from my book Emotionomics. Dan Hill, PhD, is the author of eight books and leads Sensory Logic, Inc. (https://www.sensorylogic.com). To check out his “Faces of the Week” blog, visit https://emotionswizard.com. Gold Nuggets in this Episode: All the analytics in the world cannot tell you what to do when you're trying to sell something, and yet the market is buying something else. I think that sometimes when we get stuck it's because we have learned either in school or through experience to look at that problem in one way and one way only, and sometimes just having a little creativity can help you look at it in a different way that inspires you to come up with a solution. Creativity is something that we're all born with that we've kind of forgotten along the way. We were all kids and we were all creative and somewhere along the way, we lost touch with solving problems. Our guest is Nir Bashan, CEO and founder of The Creator Mindset. He is also a world recognized creativity expert. He has taught thousands of leaders and individuals all around the world how to harness the power of creativity to improve profitability, increase sales, and ultimately create more meaning in your work. His company produces workshops, consulting, he does some coaching, keynote speaking, and travels all around the world and has quite a list of clients, including Microsoft, AT&T, and the NFL Network.
