Welcome to Episode 68 where I am truly blessed to be joined by Joel Turner of Shot IQ. Joel is a former SWAT team member and sniper who was aso a lead firearms instructor and a a two-time RMEF World Elk Calling Champion in the Professional Division, who developed Controlled Process Shooting, a system that addresses the mental side of archery and shot anticipation (or the dreaded target panic). In 2023, Joel's son, Bodie, smashed his way onto the world stage by winning The Vegas Shoot in the Championship Male category at just 15 years old. After my nerves settled, we discuss Joel's system, non-hunting societies and the joys of silence in a conversation that lasted just over 2 hours. So this babe decided to take a break, travelled the world, and returned to her home in Smiths Falls to become... a registered massage therapist... and eventually, the new owner of the faith-based dance studio, Redeemer Dance Academy. Founded by the passionate strength trainer, Roger Schwab, Mainline Health and Fitness evolved from a small 1,200 square-foot facility to a whopping 35,000 square-foot behemoth. The conversation with Schwab uncovers the rich history behind the center's transformation and the unique approach towards strength training it offers. Starting operations on Thanksgiving Day in 1976 as Mainline Nautilus, the gym was equipped with only nine machines. Inspired by his personal strength training journey, Schwab took the initiative to elevate his small fitness center. It wasn't long before they expanded to include 120 Nautilus and Med-X machines, Nautilus medical testing machines, and a complete line of X-Force machines from Sweden, hailed by Roger Schwab for delivering the most effective workouts, brings a "wow" factor unseen in other fitness equipment due to its unique design for stimulating negative training. Schwab elaborates on the benefits of X-Force machines, particularly for negative or eccentric training, citing how the technology has contributed significantly to the success of his fitness center over time. The remarkable physical transformations witnessed by clients, insists Schwab, are a testament to the efficacy of the X-Force equipment. This forward-thinking approach to fitness has not only garnered positive responses from patrons but has notably tripled business for Mainline Health and Fitness. Wrapping up the episode, Cicale commends Schwab for his innovative and dedicated approach to fitness and strength training within the Mainline Health and Fitness Training Center. Tune in for an insightful look into one of the most incredible centers in the country and the inspiring story of its founder, Roger Schwab. RIP Roger

FFR odzwierciedla zdolność układu słuchowego do synchronizacji z rytmami dźwięków, szczególnie z tonami muzycznymi, intonacją mowy i innymi skomplikowanymi sygnałami akustycznymi. "A lot of my choral works get inspiration from Philippine indigenous chants. We have 7000+ islands with different cultures and soundscapes, and that is itself is a very rich jump-off point for a new composition. I contact a tribe, interview them, ask permission to use a folk chant, and recompose it in a manner that is respectful of the original form of the chant but with something new added to it."Trailblazing composer and artist Nilo Alcala is carving a legacy for Philippine Arts internationally. He is the first Philippine-born composer to receive the COPLAND HOUSE Residency Award (2017), as well as to be commissioned by Grammy-winner Los Angeles Master Chorale. After a childhood and youth spent rigorously training for professional careers in ballet, Roland Spier and Jaya Puglise each suffered career-ending injuries. With their hopes for careers in dance at an end, both were faced with finding new purpose and identities. They each attended Columbia University in New York. Both in their 20's, Roland and Jaya work as management consultants now but are giving back to dance and dancers through Second Act, which Jaya describes as ”a network to connect current and former dancers of all backgrounds to streamline the difficult transition and creates a support system for personal and professional growth.” Says Roland, “Second Act was born from my experience struggling to find a path after hanging up my dance shoes due to injury. I want to create a resource for dancers experiencing a similar transition to find support, both personal and professional. I am passionate about this opportunity to bring dancers together, while giving back to the arts.”Topics Include:The close identity young dancers develop to the profession, because they start so young, often at threeor four, and then spend time at the dance studio rather than in after school activities. The strong bonds young dancers form with their classmates as they work towards performances andreaching milestones in the craft, which are hard to reproduce outside of the dance world.Feeling gratitude for the skills gained through the years of study and practice, but sadness too for thedance career that didn't happen.Empathizing with young Olympic athletes and the pressure they feel to perform and what happenswhen they can't “deliver".The difficult transition out of the dance world to finding new interests and pursuits.Founding the nonprofit mentoring group Second Act, bring together mentors with younger dancerstransitioning to other careers.Adjusting to enjoying ballet as audience members.Their advice to others: Don't box yourself in, there is a lot that's open to you.Resources:Instagram: @secondactnycRoland Spier is originally from Washington D.C and trained at the Washington School of Ballet, dancing alongside the company in many of their productions. In this episode, I had the pleasure of chatting with Jolorie Williams, the General Manager of Revlon. In her role, she proudly oversees the Multicultural Division, which includes Cream of Nature products and Contract Services. Jolorie loves working in haircare and even has some mannequin heads in her home where she tries out the latest products in the pipeline. Her first job was in a non-beauty role at Bristol-Myers Squib. But at the time, they also owned Clairol, and when a position opened in their Professional Beauty Division, she landed it and never looked back. When she started, her job was in "ethnic haircare," and she loves how consumers demand has helped the category evolve. Jolorie also held pivotal roles at L'Oréal, working in Multicultural Haircare and Lancome, overseeing makeup marketing. Then she moved over to the Estee Lauder brand, Origins, which exposed her to how a brand with freestanding retail stores operates. But there is something about haircare that Jolorie loves, so when the opportunity to join Revlon presented itself, she joined their Professional Division before she took on her recent role. She is serving her multicultural audience with passion and purpose. Jolorie's a proud FAMU graduate with a C-Suite position. We talked about the importance of her HBCU education and how she uses her role to impact the next generation. Plus, Jolorie offers five tips on succeeding on the corporate side of beauty. Make sure you stay until the end, so you don't miss them!
I met Tanji Johnson in 2001 when she had just graduated from being an amateur athlete to the Professional Division of competitive fitness in the IFBB. She became an icon in the fitness industry, competing for 15 years as one of the very best, and at times, the very best in the world. As a photographer and journalist, I had the privilege of covering her career for fitness industry magazines and websites and witnessing some of the incredible highs and devastating lows she experienced along the way. Despite two typically career-ending injuries, she recovered and came back stronger and better than ever. The approach she takes with life is the same she took with her athletic career, and because of that, she is immensely successful at everything she chooses to do. I hope you find Tanji and her approach to facing difficulty inspiring. We all can most certainly use some inspiration right now. Christopher, AKA “Chase” Carey spent 20 years in Corporate America holding executive and leadership positions in the Health Insurance and Consulting industries. As early as 1998 Chase was trying to bring mindfulness and meditation to the workplace. But the corporate world wasn't ready yet, so Chase embarked on his own journey of discovery, studying extensively with The Monroe Institute in Virginia where he remains an active member of their Professional Division. He also trained with Harvey Grady of the Center for Human Potential, and Drunvalo Melchizadek and other remarkable teachers. Through this, Chase developed a unique model for the understanding and elimination of fears that underlie stress, and the practice of something he calls Personal Self Integration where he utilizes a meditative technique to help people dialogue with their subconscious mind to make permanent, positive change in their lives. Chase is also a blackbelt in taekwondo and has written three books, on mindfulness, meditation and the application of martial arts philosophy into various aspects of modern life. His clients include the US Army, nursing organizations, national Insurance companies, engineering firms, and a major university business school. Chase joined me for our chat from his home outside of Atlanta Georgia. https://www.chasingmindfulness.com

At Canada’s National Academy of Dance Education we know that dance teacher training is so much more than just learning steps. It includes integration of various components of an education in dance, to bridge the gap between dance training and dance education. Focusing on one or the other was and sometimes is common practice, but in today’s world, like we always say at CNADE we need to provide our dancers and dance educators with a “whole dance education” experience. Helping us better understand how both approaches can inform and enhance one another is Emeritus and Senior Scholars from the Dept of Dance at York University Ms. Claire F. Wootten. GUEST: Following completion of her studies with the Professional Division at the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School, Claire danced professionally with the Alberta Ballet Company. She is a graduate of the Teacher Training Program at Canada’s National Ballet School and has taught extensively throughout Canada. Claire has been on faculty in the Department of Dance at York University since 1990, joining the full-time roster in 2004 and holding the role of Department Chair from 2010-14. Her area of teaching specialization is contemporary ballet, dance education and community dance. She is a certified instructor of 3-D Workout, an integrated fitness program based on the work of Bartenieff and Laban. Recently retired from full-time teaching at York, Claire has returned to freelance work.

Magen Warlick Horsewoman EXCA Champion I first learned of Magen Warlick when I was a member of Clinton Anderson's Downunder Horsemanship No Worries Club (NWC). Clinton has an Academy that trains horsemen and women in his Downunder Horsemanship Method. It's a tough deal and only a few make it to the end. Magen was one of those few. After nearly 10 years as an NWC member, I dropped out and lost track of many of the Downunder folks. Earlier this year, if you've been following along the podcast, Ranae and I participated in several California Extreme Cowboy Race Events. We met a lot of nice folks and a few we competed with made it to the National Finals in Texas. As we followed along with that event online, we noticed Magen Warlick's name in the Futurity and Professional Division. It was a grueling week of competition and Magen came out on top. Because of our interest in EXCA I wanted to have Magen Warlick on the show to talk about her experience. I also wanted to know if she could give us a few tips on how to better compete with our horses. She came through on both counts. Links to Magen Warlick Magen Warlick Horsemanship on Facebook Magen Warlick Website Tell Us Your Problems Have a problem with your horse? Do you have a favorite trainer you would like to hear from? Send us your question and the name of your favorite trainer and we'll see if we can contact them and get you an answer.
