Happy Monday! Sam and Emma speak with Richard Seymour, writer & commentator based in London, to discuss his recent book Disaster Nationalism: The Downfall of Liberal Civilization. First, Sam and Emma run through updates on the still-burning LA Fires, the GOP's tie of California aid to Trump's debt ceiling raise, the second Trump Administration, the Laken Riley Act, the TikTok ban, Jack Smith's resignation, and Biden's immigration move, before touching on the Democratic Party's continuing inability to act like an opposition party with just seven days to Trump's inauguration, and watching GOP Senator John Barrasso put the right's inhumanity on full display over the ongoing devastation in California. Richard Seymore then joins, diving right into his idea of “Disaster Nationalism” as a type of proto-fascism that seeks to take the ever-increasing frequency of real-world disasters with often abstract causes (climate change, inequality, etc) and tie them to singular, concrete perpetrators, frequently represented by ethnic and political minorities, tackling examples out of Oregon in the wake of the 2020 wildfires and Gujarat following the 2002 train burning – with the latter providing a particularly gruesome lens into Disaster Nationalism's emphasis on extreme ethnic violence as a key selling point, as it provides an outlet for pent-up anxiety rather than a solution to its real causes. After expanding on Disaster Nationalism's complex relationship to democracy (as a tool) and dedication to capitalism, Seymore walks Sam and Emma through the centrally motivating role of economic anxiety in this equation, tackling its distinction to general economic deprivation in its emphasis on loss and social status, looking at how the hyper-individualism of neoliberalism exacerbates socio-economic inequality while blaming those on the losing end for their situation, cultivating a sadistic culture of pseudo-meritocracy that craves social distinction, something threatened by any attempt to deconstruct the dominant hierarchies. After touching on the particular display of Disaster Nationalism developing in Israel's ongoing genocide of Gaza, Richard, Sam, and Emma then look at the role of the left in combatting these pressures, tackling the history of trade unions in leading the fight against fascism, and the importance of organizing when it comes to finding agency, empowerment, and community in the face of systems that want you to have anything but. And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma watch Hasan Piker's pressing interviews with LA's incarcerated firefighters, Newsmax's Rob Finnerty pins the fires on the donkey (Dems… and DEI), and Leninade unpacks the unfounded argument that any city could've contained the climate devastation facing LA right now. Ronald Raygun explores how the criminal justice and immigration systems work together (and against each other) to make this world worse for immigrants (particularly with the incoming Laken Riley Act), Alex from New York discusses climate change and California, and Joe Rogan continues his work as butler to the billionaires as he brings on Zuckerberg to platform his agenda (and his aggrievement), plus, your calls and IMs! The Context of White Supremacy hosts the weekly Compensatory Call-In 07/13/24. We encourage non-white listeners to dial in with their codified concepts, new terms, observations, research findings, workplace problems or triumphs, and/or suggestions on how best to Replace White Supremacy With Justice ASAP. This weekly broadcast examines current events from across the globe to learn what's happening in all areas of people activity. We cultivate Counter-Racist Media Literacy by scrutinizing journalists' word choices and using logic to deconstruct what is reported as "news." We'll use these sessions to hone our use of terms as tools to reveal truth, neutralize Racists/White people. #ANTIBLACKNESS In spite of the grappling and disagreement on "climate change," extreme weather events continue to batter the planet. In the Houston, Texas, more than a million residents - many of them classified as black and/or non-white - were without power for most of the week after Hurricane Beryl invaded North America. Many black Texans labored through high heat, lack of generators, medical conditions, and other basic necessities. In Maryland, state officials announced that all heat-related fatalities for the state were located in Prince George's County. This region is at least 60% black according to published census data. In Illinois, Colette Seymore continues to seek answers for the disappearance of her offpsring Taylor Casey in the Bahamas. Seymore told News Nation that her daughter had two "strikes" against her" being classified as black and being "transgender." This week the distraught mother charged that officials on the Caribbean island and the yoga studio that Taylor was visiting in the Bahamas have not done all that they can or exhibited much genuine concern about her missing black child. Finally, just as The C.O.W.S. was preparing to broadcast live, reports indicated shots were fired at former President Donald J. Trump during his political rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Images appeared to show Trump bleeding from his ear, and it's reported that the alleged gunman and one spectator were killed at the event. The former president vows to fight on. The whole scene reminded Gus of Rev. Jim Jones orchestrating faux assassinations to further dupe and control Peoples Temple followers. #ReadingIsMoreImportantThanWatchingTelevision #TheCOWS15Years INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 605.313.5164 CODE: 564943#

In the vibrant world of children's book illustrations, a few names stand out like guiding stars, among which is the remarkably talented Carolyn "Cat" Burbage. If you've found yourself lost in the lovable adventures of Freeq the alien or the courage-infused stories of Seymore the penguin, then you've already experienced the captivating charm of her creations. Cat's illustrations have a distinctive style that combines realism with whimsy, appealing to children and adults alike. The delightful sketches and the stunningly vivid color palettes she employs create an enchanting world that pulls you into the narrative, engaging your imagination and emotions. What truly sets Cat apart in the field is her remarkable ability to infuse her characters with personality and depth. Take Freeq, the lovable alien, for example. Beyond his vibrant green hue and endearing, oversized eyes lies a character bursting with energy, curiosity, and compassion. Burbage's skillful illustrations are not simply of an alien, but a being brimming with emotion, instilling in her young readers a sense of wonder and open-mindedness towards the unknown. On the other hand, there's Seymore, the fearful penguin who learns to overcome his fears. With each stroke of her brush, Cat breathes life into Seymore, rendering him not just as a penguin, but a brave, resilient character that young readers can identify with. His journey of self-discovery and growth is beautifully mirrored in the expressiveness and subtlety of Cat's illustrations, making the story resonate with anyone facing their own fears. In essence, Carolyn "Cat" Burbage is a true master of her craft, seamlessly blending over the top detail in all of her art. We eagerly anticipate the next chapter of her artistic journey, confident that it will be every bit as imaginative and inspiring as the last. It was several years ago, and this particular Super Bowl Sunday there was kind of a dark cloud over it because there had come some news that had rocked Hollywood. It rocked Broadway, and then countless everyday folks who could not forget the compelling characters that this actor had created on the screen. Academy Award-winning actor, Philip Seymour Hoffman had been found dead in his apartment of a drug overdose at the age of 46. Hoffman was considered one of the most gifted, most admired actors in show business. The sadness was compounded by a lot of reminders that he was so talented, so young, and the circumstances of his death were so wrenchingly tragic. I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about "Hope in the Darkest Hour." The autopsy revealed the exact cause of death. But there is no autopsy for a human soul to find out what went wrong there. Yes, this actor had admitted his addictions. Those close to him said he had beaten those problems in rehab. But on that Sunday, drugs allegedly killed him. Comedian and actor, Jim Carrey - who is no stranger to success - in his response to Seymore's death, he said, "Dear Philip, a beautiful, beautiful soul. For the most sensitive among us the noise can be too much." I guess you don't have to be a star to know what he's talking about. So many people live in quiet desperation, closer to the edge than anybody knows. Actor Val Kilmer suggested in his reaction that "addiction comes from trying to escape the pain of living. We all struggle with this" he said. The escapes are many: drugs or alcohol, or some have an affair, some have pornography, some are just running into a relentless schedule or a consuming workload. But that "pain of living" afflicts virtually all of us humans. Sadly, escape is never an answer. Escape always seems to ultimately run into a wall. And wherever you go, you take you with you. But there was insight in Philip Seymour Hoffman's own words. He told the New York Times: "I try to live my life in such a way that I don't have profound regrets. That's probably why I work too much. I don't want to feel like I missed something important." Look how many people slip away from this life, knowing they've missed something important and never knowing what it was. Like a source of untouchable peace that would sustain me when that "noise" becomes "too much." Or a source of strength that enables me to overcome "that pain of living." Rather than escaping into something that solves nothing, just creates more pain. Or a hope so strong that not even the darkest of days can erase it. Where can I find the power to conquer my inner darkness when there's no script writer who's going to write a happy ending? I'm not going to find it in me. It's not going to be in my greatest achievements. It's not going to be my personal strength; even my deepest relationships. Life's too hard, my resources are too finite to find ultimate answers by looking in myself. Or around the people close to me. Okay, now, our word for today from the Word of God, where the answer really is, where the hope is, Ephesians 2, beginning with verse 12 that describes people being "without hope and without God in the world." If I do not have a personal relationship with the God I was made by and made for, I'm without hope. But then it says, "In Christ Jesus, you who were once far away..." See, we've got a wall between us and God. "...you've been brought near through the blood of Christ." Jesus Christ died to tear down that wall. And then it says, "He Himself is our peace." Peace isn't a pill. Peace is not an escape. Peace is a person. His name is Jesus. And the question I ask you today, "In the midst of the storm in your life is, do you know Him? Do you belong to Him?" If there's never been a day when you've begun a relationship with Jesus, would you make this that day? You say, "Well, I need to know how." Go to our website and let me help you know how? It's ANewStory.com. The darkness has won long enough. It doesn't have to win any more. Not with this light that nothing can extinguish.

Hello and welcome back! On this episode, our hosts are speaking with homeschooling expert, Laura Seymore, about her experience teaching her kids at home and how exactly she did it. But first, “Talk like a Pirate Day” is September 19th and Katie and Esther share their best pirate accents and jokes! Joke #1: Why does it take a pirate so long to learn the alphabet? They spend years at “C”! Joke #2: What does the pirate say when his leg gets stuck in the freezer? Shiver me timber! Background on Laura Seymore: Works at Brainspring as an instructor Has known Esther for 13 years Worked at The Learning Center (school) Amazing educator! Certified through the National Institute of Learning Development Worked with kids who were struggling in all areas Has 7 kids and has homeschooled nearly all of them Homeschooled her kids for 20 years How did Laura do it?? Laura says that she never homeschooled all 7 kids at once, and one of the things that helped her a lot was keeping a strict schedule. The kids woke up at the same time every morning, had a set time for breakfast, schoolwork, and breaks. There was even a set time for when they got to do extracurricular activities. Organization is KEY! What kind of student would homeschooling be best for? According to Laura, it's not so much about the student as it is about how you modify teaching that student, not all kids learn the same! What are good traits a parent should have if they want to homeschool their children? As stated before, organization is a big help! And a lot of the traits needed to be a good candidate for homeschooling your children are traits that are needed to be a good parent; a solid home, no compelling outside requirements, making sure YOU are in a good place mentally to take on the responsibility, and the knowledge to know if you would like it or not. Last words of wisdom? Don't homeschool out of obligation! Don't push it! And find support if this is what you decide to do. And if it's not, investigate other options. To wrap up this episode, Katie and Esther share that August 26th was “Women's Equality Day.” Women's equality is so important, and the passing of the 19th amendment allowing women to vote in the United States was a huge step towards reaching equality for women. To celebrate this day, we are doing a contest! The first person to correctly email us or send in a voicemail of the woman our hosts are sharing clues on, wins a $100 Visa Gift Card! A final inspirational quote to close out the episode: “Always be yourself, unless you can be a pirate... Then always be a pirate!” Don't forget to follow us on all social media to stay up to date on all things Brainspring. See you next time! Hello and welcome back to ArtBeat Radio. My name is Renee and I am a student at Able ARTS Work San Diego. In 2021, I was cast as the lead role of Audrey in "Little Shop of Horrors". In today's episode, I will be singing two of my favorite songs from the musical: "Suddenly Seymour" and "Somewhere That's Green". Not only did I sing, but I chose the instrumentation and tempo to make the songs my own! I hope you enjoy! Suddenly Seymore Lyrics (Role of Audrey sang by Renee Evette Morneau, Role of Seymore sang by Kassidy King, MT-BC) Seymore (Kassidy:Lift up your head, wash off your mascara Here, take my Kleenex, wipe that lipstick away Show me your face clean as the mornin' I know things were bad but now they're okaySuddenly Seymour is standing beside you You don't need no makeup, Don't have to pretend Suddenly Seymour, is here to provide you With sweet understanding, Seymour's your friend Audrey (Renee)Nobody ever treated me kindlyDaddy left early, mamma was poor I'd meet a man and I'd follow him blindly He'd snap his fingers me I'd say, "Sure"Suddenly, Seymour is standing beside me He don't give me orders, he don't condescend Suddenly, Seymour is here to provide me Sweet understanding, Seymour's my friend Seymore (Kassidy)Tell me this feeling lasts 'til forever Tell me the bad times are clean washed away Audrey (Renee)Please understand that it's still strange and frightening Both losers like I've been it's so hard to saySuddenly, Seymour (Suddenly, Seymour) Is standing beside He don't give me orders He don't condescend Suddenly, Seymour He's here to provide me Seymore (Kassidy) With sweet understandingAudrey (Renee)(With sweet understanding) Seymore (Kassidy)With sweet understanding Audrey (Renee)With sweet understanding) Seymore (Kassidy)With sweet understanding Audrey (Renee)Seymour is your man Somewhere That's Green Lyrics (role of Audrey sang by Renee Evette Morneau) I know Seymour's the greatest But I'm dating a semi-sadist So I've got a black eye And my arm's in a cast. Still, that Seymour's a cutie Well, if not, he's got inner beauty And I dream of a place Where we could be together at last A small house of our own A fence of real chain link, A grill out on the patio Disposal in the sink A washer and a dryer and small plasma TV In a tract house that we share Somewhere that's green. He rakes and trims the grass He takes me to the park I cook like Martha Stewart And I look like Emelia Clark There's plastic on the furniture To keep it neat and clean In the Pine-Sol scented air Somewhere that's green Between our frozen dinner And our bedtime, nine-fifteen We snuggle watchin' Lucy On our big, enormous TV screen I'm his December Bride He's Father, he Knows Best Our kids watching Newsies As the sun sets in the west A picture out of Better Homes and Gardens magazine Far from Skid Row I dream we'll go Somewhere that's green.

It's the critical operational knowledge unique to every team. Last Mile training drives 80% of job performance, but it's unique to every org and can't be bought off-the-shelf. The company has clients such as the Pittsburgh Penguins, the U.S. Air Force, Novartis, the Special Olympics and the Carolina Panthers. As a recovering Chief Learning Officer, Dan Pontefract was fascinated to quiz Sasha on a number of different questions to get to the bottom of how organizations and employees need to 'learn to win.'

I wanted to jump in quickly let you know about the release of the audio version of my book, The Entrepreneur Ethos, narrated by David A. Conatser. If you want to support the show, you can buy it wherever audiobooks are sold. Links are also in the show notes Now on to my guest for today, Donteacia Seymore, founder of Creation Nation. Donteacia Seymore's goal is to help a million people develop their ideas into products. In the midst of campaigning for local office in Florida, Donteacia realized she had an idea for a marketable product: a glove that holds your smartphone while working out. She dropped out of politics and instead devoted all her time and energy to developing her product. She eventually succeeded and, after selling the patent, went on to create a system to help other inventors build and patent their ideas. While she previously “followed all the rules,” she realized that she was better off throwing all those old, outdated rules about product development “into the trash bin.” As an African American woman, Donteacia helps others like her by setting an example and providing support, encouragement, and guidance to go after their dreams and make entrepreneurship a reality. Donteacia credits the help of Kickstarter campaigns and a business accelerator, which has helped her grow her business and take the next steps. Now let's get better together Actions to Try or Advice to Take A big takeaway from our conversation was that people worry too much about protecting their ideas. Work on developing your idea; worry about the patenting later. The truth is, many people can have the idea, but very few will actually execute it. Question the established rules when it comes to business-building. Innovation comes from looking at what's needed and what works, not what you're “supposed to do.” You don't have to go it alone. Seymore brought a lot of skills, experience and a positive mindset to the table, but she has found tremendous value in participating in a business accelerator. Her own business is there to help inventors and provides a step-by-step process to help them and well as encouragement and support. It's all about the journey. Seymoure has found that for some of her clients, even if they did not go on to sell their product, they found enormous satisfaction in getting it built.
