Send us a textIn this episode, I talk with singer/songwriter Kylie Rothfield. She shares what she learned about singing and stage fright from Alicia Keys. We talk about what she learned from writing with some of the best writers in Nashville, song craft, process and so much more. This was a good one!Pre save Kylie's single coming out Sept. 27th here:https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/kylierothfield/never-loved-somebody?utm_campaign=website&utm_medium=Email+&utm_source=SendGridhttps://www.instagram.com/kylierothfield/When one hears Kylie Rothfield‘s voice, there is no denying the timeless, raw sense of emotion in her delivery. Crafting songs that combine elements of soul, blues and pop, Kylie's music is unique, honest, and expressive. Although her vocal ability is undeniable, she is also an accomplished self-taught guitarist, sponsored by Epiphone guitars and fully capable of supporting her captivating live show as a solo acoustic performer or with a full band. It's no wonder she caught the ears of Alicia Keys, who described her as “a blossoming, powerful flower with so much heart, so much talent, so much emotion and vocal power”.In July of 2015, Kylie signed a publishing deal with Terrorbird Media and Elephant Lady Records/Kyle Andrews. Together, they had 5 placements on national television in their first year together (NBC, E!, ABC, MTV).In September of 2016, Kylie was selected to be on The Voice (NBC). She was chosen by Alicia Keys, who coached her throughout the season, and carried her through to the Top 20 Live Shows in November. Her performance of "Hound Dog" in the knockout rounds garnered attention by many media outlets and was called the "dark-horse breakout performance of the season". Guest advisor Faith Hill said “Kylie absolutely blew me away. She interprets songs like a true artist and she could sing ANYTHING”She has over 1 million combined streams on Spotify & Apple Music from recent independent releases and was recently featured on NBC's Songland S2 (06/08/2020), working with Ester Dean, Ryan Tedder, and Shane McAnally to pitch a song she wrote to Tony and Grammy-winning artist Ben Platt. Most recently, in 2024 Kylie signed a management deal with Arianna Soto and a record deal with new label, DVG Records. The 2017 album came six years after his full-length debut, Reason to Rhyme, announcing a promising talent in a bro-country vein, but boom. was fresh and fused modern R&B, contemporary country, hip-hop, and rock, announcing a distinctive talent. Hayes consolidated this breakthrough with the clever "Fancy Like," which reached number one on Billboard's Country charts in 2021, a hit that was the cornerstone of his third record, Country Stuff the Album.Hayes is a native of Mobile, Alabama. Born on December 27, 1979, he grew up in Mobile, dividing his time between music and sports as a child and teenager. He wound up earning a music degree from Alabama's Birmingham-Southern College, then attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He and his wife moved to Nashville in 2005 with dreams of him becoming a professional musician. He signed a song publishing deal, and then, on the strength of a demo he recorded for Keith Urban, Hayes inked a deal with Mercury before quickly moving to Capitol Records. He released his debut single, "Pants," in 2010, which wound up reaching 60 on the Hot Country Songs chart. The full-length Reason to Rhyme followed in 2011, but it didn't chart. Over the next few years, Hayes worked as a songwriter, landing placements with Colt Ford and Rodney Atkins in 2014. Capitol dropped him, so he worked at Costco and continued to write, releasing the single "Pimpin' Joy" to little attention in 2014. Shane McAnally signed him to SMACK/RareSpark in 2016, leading him to release two EPs -- 8Tracks, Vol. 1: Good Shit and 8Tracks, Vol. 2: Break the Internet -- that year. Hayes landed a contract with Monument in 2017, which released "You Broke Up with Me" that year. www.GaryScottThomas.com

GRAMMY-nominated Nashville band Old Dominion has announced their anxiously awaited fourth full-length album, Time, Tequila & Therapy, will be released on October 8, 2021. To herald the record's arrival, the group shared a brand new song entitled “All I Know About Girls.”Backed by a bright acoustic guitar melody, this sweet and slick country bop builds towards a clever and catchy hook, “All I know about girls is the wide world ain't gonna spin without ‘em, but it'll spin around ‘em,”before an admission of sobering stone-cold truth, “All I know about girls is...I don't know nothing at all.”The band initially teased this chapter with their new hit single “I Was On A Boat That Day.”Eclipsing yet another benchmark, the song recently achieved the band's biggest radio impact date of their career. Right out of the gate, 132 stations added the song to rotation. As such, “I Was On A Boat That Day”was the second most added song of 2021. It has already gathered 20 million-plus streams and counting in addition to 2.2 million YouTube views on the music video. Sounds Like Nashville hailed it as “the up-tempo sand-bar anthem of the summer,”and Country Now promised the song “will quickly become the soundtrack to your summer.” Meanwhile, Rolling Stone applauded the tune's“appropriately buoyant rhythm and hum-along melodies.”Additionally, the guys took the stage at Good Morning America's Summer Concert Series to give the single its television debut(watch it HERE). “I Was On A Boat That Day”is available HERE. Watch the music video HERE.Time, Tequila & Therapy sees Old Dominion presenting13 tracks, where the boys survey the ups, downs, trials, and tribulations of life, love, and friendships while infusing their signature country sound with songwriting eloquence and arena rock ambition. The opener “Why Are You Still Here” glides along on organic percussion and piano as the song ponders what an ex is up to, “I don't want to know, but damn I want to know.”The upbeat “Hawaii”whisks Jimmy Buffet-style island bliss down south. Then, there's “No Hard Feelings” where the guys “took a little Time, Tequila & Therapy and threw it in a blender with ice”before intoxicating with another hummable hook. The “Empress of Soul” herself, Miss Gladys Knight, duets with Old Dominion on the Motown-by-way-of-Music-Row soul stunner “Lonely Side of Town.” The action all culminates with the bluesy guitar twang of the finale“Ain't Nothing Wrong With Love” as one final chant soars off to the heavens. Each band member—Matthew Ramsey, Trevor Rosen, Brad Tursi, Whit Sellers, and Geoff Sprung—notably participated in the songwriting alongside Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne. Tickets for the band's highly anticipated return to touring, “We Are Old Dominion” tour are on sale now and available. Teaming up with Indigo Road Entertainment, the group's first full-scale headline run since 2019 visits major markets and historic venues coast-to-coast 2021 is shaping up to be another milestone year for the guys. At the age of 16, she was named “Who New To Watch” by the Country Music Association. This early success led Kylie to begin making regular trips to Nashville, crafting her voice and polishing her songwriting. When she turned 18, she made the decision to call Music City home. Recognizing Kylie's unique talent, the SMACKSongs team signed her to their roster under the guidance of GRAMMY Award-winning songwriters, Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne. An avid yoga enthusiast, Kylie has earned her official Yoga Alliance Certification. She participates in yoga daily and it has become part of her lifestyle. Kylie has previously toured with artists including Dan + Shay, Little Big Town, Maren Morris, Gavin DeGraw, Brett Eldredge and Billy Currington. Kylie was named as part of CMT's Listen Up Class of 2019 and will be performing shows across the country this summer, opening for Jon Pardi, Kip Moore, Devin Dawson, Lady Antebellum, Carly Pearce, and more. Kylie is currently in the studio working on her debut album with producers Shane McAnally and Ben Johnson. Connect with Kylie: Website Spotify Facebook Instagram TicTok Twitter YouTube

https://wittmbts3.godaddysites.com/ https://workflowy.com/s/social-media-for-wit/HfbK3lDslOAee3SM Sam Hunt had had the idea for the song stored away for some time. "I try to think of titles or lines that'll cross my mind and I'll put 'em in my phone, and this was one that I wanted to write for a while – the title 'Body Like a Back Road' – or use it as a lyric, do something with it," the Georgia native recalled. "I didn't have a melody, but one night this melody got stuck in my head and the phrase 'Body Like a Back Road' sang perfectly to it and the chorus came out pretty quick." Having come up a melody that fitted the title, Hunt started working on the song with producer Zach Crowell and a couple of writing buddies Josh Osborne and Shane McAnally in November of 2016. The quartet penned the bulk of the tune during a trip to Charleston, where they were hoping to work without the distractions of being in Nashville. Hunt recalled "I wanted to write it because I thought it was a fun song, but I didn't know for sure if I wanted to put it out. I didn't want it to come across as objectifying women or be too, to lack depth and just, I don't know. So, anyway, I had some concerns, but I tried to make it fun to offset any risks of those things happening, which made writing it fun, and I think that came across in the lyric and in the way we recorded it and everything else. When we finally finished it, it finally hit me as 'Ok. Wait a minute. Maybe I underestimated the potential of this song. I think this could be a fun song and it will connect with folks.' So, at that point, I was excited to put it out and fortunately folks have enjoyed it." --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/wittmbtsofficial/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/wittmbtsofficial/support

“Growing up, there was always a lot of other Chris’s everywhere,” Chris Lee told American Songwriter. “In classes and stuff people ended up just calling me ‘Chris Lee’ because it stood out.” Years later, Chris Lee — who now goes by ‘ChrisLee’ — is still standing out. On Monday night, Lee became the newest winner of NBC’s “Songland,” the show which features songwriters pitching their songs to a panel of celebrity ‘producers’ — Shane McAnally, Ryan Tedder and Ester Dean — and a guest artist. This week, the guest was the influential vocal group Boyz II Men, who actually made the unprecedented move to record all of the songs pitched to them. However, Lee’s song “Love Struck” still received special recognition as the winning song… which makes sense considering that it is a grooving pop number which feels perfectly situated for the glossy sound of Boyz II Men. A graduate of the Berklee College of Music, Lee has been writing songs since he was in elementary school. As a beautiful reminder of the importance of teachers — an especially powerful sentiment in today’s quarantine world — Lee cites his music teacher, Bob Berzack, as the person who spurred his life’s journey.

If country music's songwriting community has one common denominator, it could very likely be Shane McAnally. With over 40 #1 songs since breaking through in 2010 with Kenny Chesney's Somewhere With You (which he co-wrote with JT Harding), McAnally has emerged as gifted a writer and producer as Nashville has ever seen. Seemingly without effort, he navigates between pushing the style of contemporary country music (Sam Hunt), while still giving plenty of attention to country's traditional roots (Midland). He's also comfortable working with artists who aren't so easily labeled (Kacey Musgraves, Brandy Clark). And he is undeniably country music's most high-profile songwriter: as a coach on NBC's breakout songwriting TV show Songland, McAnally has demonstrated for the rest of America not only his talent for turning a phrase, but his innate ability to work with others to bring out their best. And while he makes his success look easy, it isn't, nor has it been, and that makes his accomplishments all that more impressive. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Sometimes, new revelations are revealed that show you what needs to be done. This week, the crew discussed just this. For instance, Akon ponders presidential run with Kanye West in 2024. When asked about going up against Kanye West, who has also expressed his interest in a presidential run in 2024, Akon said it wouldn’t be a competition.“I honestly need him to run, I want him to run,” he explained. “Working together we could now both fulfill the overall play of what the American people is looking for and I think that would be a great compromise,” he said of their different perspectives. “The combination could be something, you just never know. We just have to wait for that time to come and see. [...] I can’t predict it.” In related news, Kanye West has vowed to use his "arrogance" as the "greatest artist God ever created" to help spread the teachings of Christianity to a wider audience. Even the iconic producer, Dr. Dre is is getting the holy ghost by working with Kanye West for the new album, "Jesus Is King II." The pair offered no information on the follow-up to the rapper's faith-based album, which topped the Christian Albums and Top Gospel Albums charts. This guy definitely has the magic touch. In 2014, country singers Shane McAnally and Brandy Clark, both of whom are gay, shared the Song of the Year Award with Kacey Musgraves for “Follow Your Arrow.” Nick Cannon also shows his revelations has he continues to rise as a great entrepreneur as he prepares to launch his new talk show to premiere on FOX in the fall of 2020. The show will be carried in all the major markets including New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia and San Francisco. This is the second big Fox win for Cannon, who is also the host for the network’s show “The Masked Singer.” The programming vision for Cannon’s show will “take on the latest in trending pop culture stories and other water-cooler topics, celebrity interviews and other surprises,” the Debmar-Mercury production team described. EPISODE DETAILS: PART ONE Scott and Paul put in a plug for Pearl Snap Studios! PART TWO - 3:02 mark The guys have a conversation about some of the worst cover songs of all time. PART THREE - 12:06 mark Paul and Scott head over to Shane's Los Angeles home to get his thoughts on being in a band with LeAnn Rimes when they were little kids; why he used to pray that God would give him another dream other than songwriting; how he had to wrestle with questions of authenticity and sexual identity to discover his artistic voice; the way that Kenny Chesney anointed him that opened the floodgates of commercial success; who he calls his favorite singer of all time; which of his hits he was most shocked was released as a single; what he thinks of the critics who say “Body Like a Back Road” drifted too far from country’s traditions; which of his songs he suspects other songwriters don’t like; the reason The Book of Mormon musical had a huge influence on him; and why joining the cast of NBC's Songland was so fulfilling. ABOUT SHANE MCANALLY With 40 #1 singles to his credit in the last decade, Shane McAnally is already one of the most successful country songwriters and producers of all time. I spoke with Josh in his writing room at SMACK Songs, a publishing and multi faceted artist development company in co-partnership with Shane McAnally. We chatted about his 10 plus years in struggling to even get a cut while having major publishing deals. Singer-songwriter Brandy Clark’s 2013 debut album 12 Stories landed on the year end “best of” lists ofRolling Stone, NPR, American Songwriter, and New York magazine before earning her a nomination for Best Country Album and Best New Artist (in any genre) at the 2015 Grammy awards. Clark’s meticulously crafted “drinking and thinking” songs, as she described them to “All Things Considered,” reflect a new brand of progressively-minded traditional country that has been enthusiastically embraced by both the honky-tonk crowd and public radio audiences. Before stepping into the spotlight as an artist, however, Clark put in more than a decade as a hard-working Nashville-based tunesmith whose songs were recorded by Toby Keith, Reba McEntire, LeAnn Rimes, Darius Rucker, Gretchen Wilson, Keith Urban, and Sheryl Crow. She co-wrote the Band Perry’s “Better Dig Two,” which hit #1 in early 2013. That same year, she was nominated for a CMA, AMA, and Grammy award for co-writing Miranda Lambert’s “Mama’s Broken Heart.” She won Song of the Year at the 2014 CMA awards for “Follow Your Arrow,” which she co-wrote with Shane McAnally and artist Kacey Musgraves. Her next album will be released by Warner Bros. Records, which signed her to their Los Angeles division in late 2014.
Hey there! I'm Kelly Sutton. We are so glad you’re here for another Inside Music Row! We’ve got plenty of entertainment news for you this week, so let’s get started! Even though Kenny Chesney is taking some time off, he’s still hard at work, now co-producing his 16th studio album. He’s working hard collecting great songs and pushing the boundaries without betraying his true self. You can see part of that in the new single “American Kids,” written by Rodney Clawson, Luke Laird, and Shane McAnally. Kenny says the song ‘just grabs you and holds on, but even more importantly…it feels really good.” Look for Kenny to hit the road again in 20-15 with tons of new material. Randy Houser recently helped open a new Operation Homefront Village in Gaithersburg, Maryland. He helped cut the ribbon for the facility, which helps wounded military service members and their families. Randy also performed for the group and visited with them before a special cookout. Their performance together raised over 40-thousand dollars for Great Strides Valdosta in honor of their cousin Sophie, who has been diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. Sammy Kershaw is honoring his late friend and mentor George Jones with the release of a new album dedicated entirely to the “Possum.” The project includes a total of fourteen tracks, including renditions of some of George’s biggest hits like “White Lightning” and “He Stopped Loving Her Today.” Also included are two new tracks that were inspired by the legend, plus a special “Near You” duet with Georgette Jones. Look for “Do You Know Me? – A Tribute to George Jones” to hit stores July 22nd. Now it's time to go “Inside The Song.” John Oates met his songwriting match when he was teamed up with hit writer Craig Wiseman.
