In this episode of Ryan Rambles You To Rest, I take us on another Amiable Amble journey to top off the New Year. I begin with some musings on the New Year and how it began. Then, as I am wont to do, I get distracted by thoughts of the “healthy” salads and sandwiches that manifest at this time of year around the Super Bowl: Taco Salad and Italian Hoagies.  If you like this shorter-than-usual format, be sure to let me know in the comments, as it may be possible to produce these more often. In this episode: 04:26 - New Year Musings 25:36 - Taco Salad & Italian Hoagies Ryan Rambles You To Rest is a sleep podcast where you are ferried off to rest by the dulcet tones of my voice as I examine topics of no major importance. The food coolers are still mostly full, but the drink coolers are now around half full, mostly with "standard" fare from Coca-Cola or Pepsi, which I won't touch. The sad cooler with the compressor that can't get going has been left empty. Other stock in the store is in good shape; whatever minor thing we've come in here to get, week after week, has typically been here. Ours is out of nasal decongestant though, although they have some allergy products and multi-symptom cold medicines; many of the latter contain acetaminophen, a liver toxin, so are never on our list. Home Depot was next. There is still no tag on the rack of 2x4x8 studs, but a check online shows it is still $3.25. The cordless tool area in the front that is rather prominently featured just before Christmas has been almost entirely cleared out, and there is a lot of empty space there now; I'll keep an eye on this on future trips. Aldi was last. Stock levels are good. Produce isn't mounded up, but there are no empty spaces. They've had plenty of canned cat food lately. We found everything we wanted. Staple prices were: eggs: $1.65; whole milk: $2.98; heavy cream: $4.69; OJ: $3.29; butter: $3.69; bacon: $4.25; potatoes: $3.99; sugar: $3.09; flour: $1.99; 80% lean ground beef: $4.49 (+). Despite the growing escalation of the Islam vs. Civilization conflict in the Middle East, untainted regular gasoline remains at $3.699/gallon. I went out again later to Food City for dry cat food and another case of seafood Friskies cans, and there was plenty of pet food in stock there. Operation Independence Holler Roast Finances 2022 versus 2023 Main topic of the Show: If Things Turn South in 2024 Why would I do a show like this? Because it looks like the 70s on crack out there! What is impacting the economy and culture High Inflation (look up inflation for the past two years and come up with a cumulative number of 11% conservatively and 21% by some estimates) - has your income also grown by 11- 21%  Real Estate, In migration, Out migration, and interest rates  Current rate Selling now and buying the same cost home costs more Where people are going and impacts on those markets Housing scarcity Long term population expectations Boomers moving out of the workforce, into retirement facilities Move toward subscription society AKA renting your house not owning it War in Ukraine, War in Israel, War war war Election Year Technological advancement, AI, unprepared workforce, unrealistic expectations Number of government employees versus private sector employees - 17% and rising - by one single measure Medical industrial complex Obesity, diabetes, overall physical and mental health of the population - weakening citizens Aging and undermaintained infrastructure and infrastructure spending that doest address them problem I could go on and on, but without worrying about any conspiracy, there are many things in play that can, and probably will, have a negative impact on our economy at a rather large scale. Any one of these things is painful, yet navigable, but all of them together paint a picture that has been causing either panic or denial among our community and beyond So why haven't we talked much about it? (Making decisions from a place of fear is a bad idea) What could the negative look like? (Setting aside an alien or nuclear or pathogenic attack, because, really, how do you even wrap your mind around being ready for such things, we are mimicking Japan in the 80s, and can learn from that as well as the rebasing of our monetary system and high inflationary period in the 70s and 80s). Costs of things outpace income increases (This is already happening) (PANTRY CHALLENGE, FINANCE AUDIT)  Jobs could become scarce (Currently, we are in a bizarre world where it is hard to find employees that are good AND hard to find a job that is good. Let's talk about why.) Consequences of unemployment, return to a gig environment without any decent way to navigate it from a regulatory standpoint. In other words, the current environment of overregulation and overtaxation of every little thing does not play well with non-w-2 employees, but people are finding they must engage with the gig economy as a non w-2 employee to survive in a growing number of cases (GROW YOUR INCOME STABILITY).   Gaining stability through home ownership or land ownership is increasingly difficult, though not impossible. Keeping hold of property in a world where it is taxed based on current market value will also be increasingly difficult. (THE WINDOW)  Tangible assets and their value versus holding cash (RIGHT NOW YOU CANNOT SELL MANY TANGIBLE THINGS - THIS MAY CHANGE)  Technological advancements leading to job loss, getting left behind (LEARN THE THINGS YOU ARE SCARED OF, INCLUDING AI)  Necessary monetary rebasement - we've seen it before, it is a favorite tool of leaders, we expect to see it again. (IT IS AN ELECTION YEAR - MAY STAVE THIS OFF A BIT, OR EXPECTED PROSPERITY FROM TRANSITION MAY SPEED IT - ARE YOU READY? CRYPTO AND FROZEN ACCOUNTS STORY) Election year and division, violence, hijinks (SITUATIONAL AWARENESS)  Health of our population, the medical industrial complex, and more (BE HEALTHY)  Underrmaintained infrastructure and failures - electrical grid, etc (DECENTRALIZE AS IT MAKES SENSE All in all, it looks scary but we've gotten through worse and will again. Building the life you choose with an eye toward community, diversification and LONG TERM success is so important.Stockpiling will only get you so far, skills, health, resilience and underground networks are the strength in struggle. This is why we do SRF, LFTN and all the other events and meetups that seem so prevalent. How to Lose Weight for Active Women Over 40: Women's Exercise Nutrition

The Flipping 50 Show

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 28, 2023 35:26

Many women want to lose weight. To lose weight for active women over 40, they also don't want performance to deteriorate. There are a few things to consider. First, it's not the eat less, exercise more dogma that will get you what you really want.  Most women want energy, tone and definition, and strength for now and later. Better blood sugar control that supports reductions in belly fat and overall insulin sensitivity.  Am I right? But eating less and exercising more - if successful at all during menopause and post - will generally cause the opposite. Less energy, worse mood, poor sleep, less muscle tone, and spirals down from there with long term ramifications to health.  Being active, whether sports performance level or just athletic active, requires energy. There is still a way to juggle goals of maintaining or improving performance while still dropping a few pounds of extra cushioning.  Eating to Lose Weight Active Over 40 Close to the beginning and/or after completion of exercise, peri- and postmenopausal athletes should aim for a bolus of high EAA-containing (~10 g) intact protein sources or supplements to overcome anabolic resistance. Anabolic resistance is the status of muscle loss being more likely than muscle gain and it requires more intense exercise stimulus (strength training), quality protein stimulus, and recovery to overcome it.  An ACSM review of literature stated 20 g protein pre-exercise (and 40 after) for older adults to boost Muscle Protein Synthesis similar to that of a 20 yr old when workout conditions were comparable.  Time pre-exercise fuel for optimal digestion. Within 30 minutes of a workout the easier to digest fuel must be. It's not only a comfort factor, but also the diverted energy for digestion competing with the need for blood flow to deliver oxygen to working muscles. Both digestion and performance will suffer. A “simple shake” with protein powder and unsweetened almond milk or water may be the easy way to go.  If you want carbs, add a half a banana to the shake or have half cup oatmeal with protein powder. Pre-workout, avoid fiber and fat. A mixed meal eaten pre-workout should allow at least 2 ½ - 3 hours to be fully digested. Some will feel most comfortable if this is longer than that (4 hours) if it's following recommendations for high fiber, high protein and high fat.  Given recommendations range from at least 10 to 20 grams of protein pre-workout, below are some examples of protein sources. The more challenged you are with gaining lean muscle (and or are attempting to lose weight while retaining muscle) the higher end of the range you want to be. Lose Weight for Active Women: Women's Guide to Exercise Nutrition High EAA examples of 10 g protein:  Small half a simple shake including protein powder and unsweetened almond milk  Dairy (which does by the way include whey protein) generally pre-exercise wouldn't be recommended due to its influence in mucus production, even if you tolerate which a lot of women don't later in life (but Greek yogurt or cottage cheese are sources of protein- again I don't recommend pre-exercise). ·      2 eggs equal 12 grams of protein (if you tolerate eggs)  ·      ½ cup steel cut oats with protein stirred in ·      Quinoa  Choices vary as to whether you want carbohydrate prior or not to avoid early fatigue during exercise sessions. Overcoming Anabolic Resistance:  A study in the European Journal of Sports Science found higher protein intakes (2-3 times the protein Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) of 0.8 g/kg/d) during periods of energy restriction can enhance fat-free mass (FFM) preservation, particularly when combined with exercise. Athletes [and let's include, the very active] aiming to reduce fat mass and preserve FFM should consume protein intakes in the range of ∼1.8-2.7 g kg(-1) d(-1) (or ∼2.3-3.1 g kg(-1) FFM) in combination with a moderate energy deficit (-500 kcal) and the performance of some form of resistance exercise.  What does that look like for you?  Say you weigh 130lbs. Rounding Kgs up to 60.  Based on body weight: 162 g protein  Using the FFM example:  Say you weigh 130lbs and are 25% body fat. Subtracting the fat weight in lbs (32.5) from bodyweight leaves 97.5 Fat Free Mass.  224 g  Using the high range number for each of body weight and FFM-based protein recommendations, the daily protein recommendation then would be 162 – 224 grams of protein daily. That is with the goal of losing weight while resistance training with a moderate calorie deficit.  Taking a median number of 180 g protein with each gram of protein offering 4 kcals means you'd be taking in 720 kcals/day from protein.  Fat = 7 kcals, Carb = 4 kcals.  Prepare to be confused.  Health Organizations Weigh in (Not necessarily on losing weight) Prestigious Organizations Offer These Calculations for a 130lb active woman:  American Dietetic Association (ADA): at least 59 - 106 grams/day. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC): 48 - 169 grams/day (10-35% of daily caloric intake). World Health Organization safe lower limit: 49 grams/day. Keep in mind these recommendations vary in goal. The least amount of protein to avoid death or illness is not the same to thrive and add lean muscle, strength and energy. We have a gap.  So, it is of course confusing. We also have emotional relationships to food and beliefs we've held for a long time. Those too are likely factors in your reaction to this episode. You're nodding or shaking. Even though the science is the basis of the content, we don't as humans adopt it readily.  Say You Don't Want to Lose Weight You Want to Maintain Daily protein intake should fall within the mid- to upper ranges of current sport nutrition guidelines (1.4-2.2 g·kg-1·day-1) for women at all stages of menstrual function (pre-, peri-, post-menopausal, and contraceptive users) with protein doses evenly distributed, every 3-4 h, across the day. Eumenorrheic athletes in the luteal phase and peri/post-menopausal athletes, regardless of sport, should aim for the upper end of the range. Let's do the math.  130lb woman  Convert to kg: 59 129 g protein    150lb woman  Convert to kg: 68 149 g protein  This is the equivalent of 1 g protein per lb of body weight. You can keep it easy by remembering that is your daily AND that a “dose” of protein needs to be at least 30gm at a meal. However, if you go higher as suggested for your first meal of the day, the next meal may not need to be as high if you eat within 3-4 hours to keep that muscle protein synthesis up. The alternative is muscle protein breakdown. You're in one or the other. There's really not a neutral.  To Lose Weight for Active Women, Examples of a day of high protein meals:  Pre-Workout: 20 gm protein in a simple shake pre-workout  Or minimally, 12 gm protein in two eggs pre-workout Meal Examples:  45g protein in a post- workout smoothie  51g Salmon (35) + quinoa (6) + Greek-style yogurt (10) with berries  43g Taco Salad with ground Bison (35) + Black beans (8)  46g 6 large Sauteed Scallops (29) + Three-bean salad (8) + Black Bean Brownie (9)  I'm not an advocate of calorie counting. However, a snapshot of the number of calories you take in can be helpful. Many women are too far below what they need, AND too low in protein, AND not lifting weights with adequate intensity or sleeping. Those will add up to muscle loss. You may temporarily think you're successful at the weight loss game, but unless you mitigate it, muscle loss will result in you feeling weaker, less energetic and having a slower metabolism  Weight loss with an on-target activity plan means having a slight caloric deficit with an increased amount of protein from a maintenance phase. Other research I've shared suggests increasing protein by 10-15% above maintenance along with a reasonable deficit if weight loss is needed.  So, let's challenge that.  Do you need weight loss? Or do you need to gain lean muscle? Get very clear. You may need both but someone listening needs to hear this: you don't need weight loss; you need fat loss. That will come with an increase in lean muscle and a decrease in inflammation.  Additionally, to Lose Weight While Active Over 40 Creatine supplementation of 3 to 5 g per day is recommended for the mechanistic support of creatine supplementation with regard to muscle protein kinetics, growth factors, satellite cells, myogenic transcription factors, glycogen and calcium regulation, oxidative stress, and inflammation. Postmenopausal females benefit from bone health, mental health, and skeletal muscle size and function when consuming higher (5g) doses of creatine. References:  Murphy CH, Hector AJ, Phillips SM. On this new podcast, we get a lesson on natural wines from Chelsea Coleman—co-founder of the Rose Wine Bar in South Park who just opened Mabel's Gone Fishing, a gintoneria and oyster bar that also has natural wines. Seems like just a few years ago, natural wines were what your kooky friend with the urban chickens and the Wendell Berry tattoo drank. The nat-wine ethos was always noble: wines made from grapes grown on sustainable and ideally organic methods, inoculated only with naturally occurring yeast, with nothing added (there are currently over 100 legal additives often used in commercial wine, everything from lab-grown yeasts to mega purple to oak chips and copper and anti-foaming agents) or taken away (no filtering or fining, a process that is often achieved by using animal products like egg albumen or isinglass, aka fish bladder). Ideally, grapes are grown on a permaculture dry farm (one that doesn't use irrigation, using only rain) by operators who are passionate about fair trade and treating the earth and humans right. And for decades, their hearts were pure and their wines were terrible. Mousy, funky, chewy, fizzy liquids that often exploded before they got to the store (on account of secondary fermentation). That is not true anymore. Natural wines (aka lo-fi wines) are still funky. They taste exactly like the place where they were grown. You can even taste the time of year. Ultra terroir. A bit of a surprise in every batch. But producers have learned a thing or two about how to navigate the wild, low-intervention approach to winemaking. Lo-fi wines are also the fastest growing sector of the wine market—especially among millennials, who demand a story and an ethos with their consumption more than any other generation. All that is to say, Coleman is in the thick of it. The San Diego natifve co-founded Nat Diego (a natural wine fest). Her love of nats lines up with her ideals on food systems (she was the chair of Slow Food San Diego for three years, and she used to haul compost from local restaurants and drop them off at local farms). She's got a pet chicken named Tang and—apropos with the Padres about to play their first home playoff game in 16 years—her father was the iconic broadcaster, Jerry Coleman. Join us as we talk about Mabel's and she gives us a primer on natural wines. Managing editor and food enthusiast Jackie Bryant also takes a mic. In news, we talk about the launch of the Aisu ice cream brand. Launch is a hyperbolic word, since it's only available at Chino Farms and Mille Fleurs at the moment, but it's made by the youngest farmer in the Chino Family—Makoto, and his girlfriend, Elina—using the best produce on earth. Longtime San Diego chef and former owner of Pacifica Del Mar, Chris Idso, has joined restaurateur Linda DiNitto (264 Fresco) to open the Latin-inspired Fresco Cocina in Carlsbad. Ambrogio15 has teamed with Michelin-starred Italian restaurant, Acquerello, and will reopen their La Jolla spot as Ambrogio by Acquerello. Bivouac Ciderworks is expanding to a much larger space next door in North Park. Plus, North Park gets a plant-based Mexican joint called Tacotarian, and nonprofit food org Berry Good Food announced they're offering up to $10,000 in funding to K-12 schools with garden projects (now accepting applications. For “Two People, Fifty Bucks,” I can't stop frothing about the pastrami burger at Balboa South in Chula Vista, and I share the remarkable story of new owner, Mariana Cardenas. Keto Salads at  Fast Food Placeshttps://rockthatketo.com/?p=2341&preview=true (https://rockthatketo.com/keto-salads-at-fast-food/) You probably already know this, but salads  aren’t Keto automatically.  For all your life, you have seen people eating only salad when they were on a diet. And all your life you saw them be unhappy, and rarely or never actually lose weight. That’s because salads are mostly carbs. Yes, I know, vegetables are “good”, so more is better.  But that’s not how it works in Keto. A bowl full of veggies, with a sweetened sauce, is actually not going to help you lose weight very much, as you probably already know. Knowing what we know now, a bowl of fat is actually way better for weight loss!  Who would have thought that a few years ago?  The amount of carbs from many salad toppings like dressings, sweet marinades, fresh orhttps://www.healthline.com/nutrition/dried-fruit-good-or-bad ( )dried fruit, and other knick knacks can add up to trouble fast.   Veggies are CarbsThe veggies themselves are all carb, and in the keto system, a carb is a carb. No matter how ‘healthy’ it is otherwise. Having a meal based around protein is so much easier on your carb count for the day. But sometimes you might just feel like a salad. If so, here you go. Several Keto salads at fast food places that keep you in your zone. Where You Can EatChipotle:   Salad Bowl with steak, romaine, cheese, sour cream and salsa: 7 grams of carbs, 405 calories, 23 grams of fat, 30 grams of protein. Moe’s Taco Salad with adobo chicken, fresh jalapenos, cheddar cheese and guacamole: 9 grams of carbs, 325 calories, 23 grams of fat, 28 grams of protein. McDonald’s Bacon Ranch Grilled Chicken Salad with guacamole: 10 grams of carbs, 380 calories, 19 grams of fat, 42 grams of protein. Arby’s Roast Turkey Farmhouse Salad with buttermilk ranch dressing: 10 grams of carbs, 440 calories, 35 grams  fat, 22 grams  protein. Check Labels or AskIt’s a good idea to check the labels on the dressings. They may have changed since this episode came out.  You can just ask someone, but they usually don’t know and that starts a sometimes comical series of events trying to get the info.  Oil and vinegar is a good go to. High fat ranch is good, as long as there are no added sugars. Always check. Watch out for candied nuts, etc.  Keto salads at fast food restaurants are luckily pretty common now. These restaurants are aware of diabetics and their needs. You can often ask what they have for diabetics, or if they have low carb on the menu. Happy Keto hunting out there. Live Up to What You Hope For

I read this quote the other day and it really struck a chord; “The very least you can do in your life is to figure out what you hope for. And the most you can do is live inside that hope.”-Barbara Kingsolver. We definitely need to explore this topic because I would wager that a lot of what we do was inspired, instilled, or insisted upon by others or what we believe society expects from us. But what do we hope for? How much time have you spent trying to figure that out? It’s easy to get on the escalator of life and just follow it to where it leads. Sometimes it's going up, sometimes it’s going down, and sometimes it's just a straight shot faster than what it would be if left to our own pace. Let’s step off and take a breather to explore the idea “all that we hope for”, shall we? So after reading Barbara’s quote, I thought, who is Barbara? I mean, I love inspirational messages and never really think about the source. Was it something that just popped into her head or is she walking the walk. I think that’s important and a barometer that I use. I don’t ever want my encouragement and the messages I put out to become a bunch of taco salad. Let me explain this reference that I use frequently for fodder, unmeaningful content. If I read or write marketing messaging and it’s full of a bunch of buzz words, keywords, and SEO strategies I call it taco salad. You know when you go to an American Mexican restaurant you can order beef, lettuce, beans, cheese, and pico in about anyway on any vehicle. That’s why I call it Taco Salad - it's just a different order to the same meaningless buzzwords.  Ok, so who is Barbara and what’s she slinging? Barbara Kingsolver was born in 1955 and grew up in rural Kentucky. She earned degrees in biology from DePauw University and the University of Arizona and has worked as a freelance writer and author since 1985. At various times in her adult life she has lived in England, France, and the Canary Islands, and has worked in Europe, Africa, Asia, Mexico, and South America. She spent two decades in Tucson, Arizona, before moving to southwestern Virginia where she currently resides. Her books have been translated into more than two dozen languages, and have been adopted into the core literature curriculum in high schools and colleges throughout the nation. She has contributed to more than fifty literary anthologies, and her reviews and articles have appeared in most major U.S. newspapers and magazines. Kingsolver was named one of the most important writers of the 20th Century. In 2000 she received the National Humanities Medal, our country’s highest honor for service through the arts. She has two daughters. Her husband teaches environmental studies. Since June 2004, Barbara and her family have lived on a farm in southern Appalachia, where they raise an extensive vegetable garden and Icelandic sheep. Barbara believes her best work is accomplished through writing and being an active citizen of her own community. She is grateful for the goodwill and support of her readers. I would say, it’s safe to assume, Barbara is living the life she had hoped for.  Even without all the accolades or illustrious career, can you say you are living the life you had hoped for? I guess the place to start is, what did you or do you hope for? If you aren’t on that path, why? How can you take back the roadmap to your destiny and start heading in the right direction? Sound like a plan?  Encouragementology is the practice of instilling hope. I discovered the power of encouragement several years ago during a workshop I led for women. That ah-ha moment changed everything for me. It helped me understand the importance of emotional giving and how that can out reach physical giving. We all need to hear that someone believes in us even before we can believe in ourselves. You aren’t born without insecurities and high self-esteem out of the crib. Those things are developed and nurtured in you as you grow. I developed Encouragementology as a practice so that other people could implement this idea and make an intentional effort to reach out, connect, understand, and encourage the people they encounter.  This is where our hope and instilling hope in other intersects. It’s a give-get world. You get by giving and by giving you get. An article on livingyourbestlife.com introduces us to the road of your best life.  On this path, it’s okay to want. It’s natural to dream and wish. We are powerful creators, and learning to harness that power is part of creating a life worth living. Many of us have visions of a better tomorrow. These visions consist of various futures, where we will exercise more, or find a career that we actually love, make more money, have more free time, and so forth . . . If you are reading this it is because you want more, and you suspect you are capable of more. You have hopes and dreams and you are just about ready to create the life you want. On a deeper level, pursuing our dreams also means finding purpose and meaning in life. And it’s not always clear what that is. If life feels like a grind, that is an indication that something is missing. The haunting feeling of wanting more is trying to tell us something important.   Part of the journey is to uncover what really interests us and makes us feel alive. Self-inquiry is one of several powerful methods for discovering what we really want in our lives. And it’s not for the faint of heart. Discovering what we want in life also means facing what we don’t want, and that process can be turbulent. But learning to live with authenticity leads to rewards that often surpass our expectations. Even simple everyday life can feel amazing when we are living with purpose. What does it mean to live my best life? It means living up to my potential. Living up to my potential means doing “the things I hope to do someday” now instead of putting them off for some magical time in the future. Life is temporary, and I don’t want to wait to feel fulfilled. Living my dream life also means that as soon as I am living up to my potential, I continue to set the bar even higher. It’s not a one-time quick fix. It is a commitment to myself and what really matters to me. Authentic living means I am always asking myself what is working and what is not, and acting accordingly. Creating the life I want requires a commitment to personal growth. I must be willing to change, to grow, and to do what it takes to live my best life. Living my best life also means living a balanced life. Balance is a key part of healthy living. By managing time and energy wisely, I nurture all aspects of myself, my body, my mind, and my spirit. So what does it take to live my best life? Strength. Being my best self often means doing things that are difficult and challenging. It is much easier to sit on a couch than to run a marathon. Breaking bad habits and creating good habits takes discipline and strength of character. We can build strength of character by challenging ourselves and doing things that other people might consider difficult. We can then use that strength to make more positive changes in our lives. Doing things that are challenging but ultimately rewarding eventually becomes a habit! After years of taking the road less traveled and pushing my boundaries, I feel stronger and more grounded than I ever have in life.  I’m not easily rattled by small everyday hassles, other people’s moods, or even my own emotions. The effect is subtle yet profound. Courage. It takes courage to create the life I desire. As I explore and honor what I ultimately want for myself, I find that means breaking some old habits and making life changes. Those changes may include walking away from friendships and other relationships that no longer support my growth and my goals. Friends and family may resist some of these changes. Often times the people that don’t support me are the same ones that make little effort in their own lives, so they would prefer that others remain stuck along with them. It takes courage and strength of character to not care what people think and to create the life I want even if others are judging my actions. I’ve done some bold things over the last few years to create a life that feels amazing. Read my story here. Self  Respect. Living my best life begins with appreciating the fact that I am alive. Realizing that life is a gift and every single day is a blessing is the foundation on which I build the life I desire. Appreciating life means respecting myself and my body. My body is my vehicle for this journey. When I give it the fuel and maintenance that it needs, it will perform at its best and take me everywhere I want to go. Making the right food and lifestyle choices and creating healthy habits is part of living my dream life. I want to have lots of energy every day to enjoy life and achieve my goals. Check out these healthy recipes and smoothie ideas. Choosing actions that nurture self-respect also builds confidence, and confidence is vital to achieving my goals. Organization. Being the best I can be also takes some organization. Setting goals and living a balanced life is much easier when I take the time to plan things out and write them down. From daily to-do lists to 5-year plans, getting organized has a magical impact on our ability to achieve our goals.   CHALLENGE: Look within to shine a light on your hopes and dreams. The more you uncover and embrace the brighter the illumination. This light will lead you to live your best life.   I Know YOU Can Do It    Resources:Barbara KingsolverDr. Neel Burton writes on this for Psychology Today.Cosmic Vine; What Do You Hope To Achieve With Your Life?Happonomy.comlivingyourbestlife.com
