In our fifth installment in this series, we address the facts & fictions about ginkgo, guarana, and maca supplements in commerce! These were #13, 14, and 15 on the top-selling herbs list for 2023 (the most recent data). This series is all about sharing an herbalist's understanding of herbs very popular as commercial supplements and other mass-market products. We want to share perspectives of both traditional and contemporary herbal practice, so people can understand these are “good for” more than just what's on their labels. It's too easy for herbs to be boxed in to smaller and smaller ranges of application when they're commercialized. This is an antidote to that movement! For practicing herbalists & clinicians, it's very important to know well those herbs which are most commonly consumed. Your clients will ask you about them, or be taking them before they even visit you – so you've got to know what they do! You might be able to give advice about a better remedy, or a compensation for some effect of the plant. This can help your clients just as much as a new recommendation, so don't neglect it.If you're new to herbalism, this can also serve as an inoculation against “herban legends” and misinformation – which is rampant on today's internet.13. We discuss green tea, fenugreek, and ivy leaf in this, the fourth part of an episodic sequence about the best-selling herbs in the US.Our primary purpose for creating this series of episodes is to share an understanding of these herbs from the perspectives of traditional and contemporary herbal practice. Frequently, the high-volume sales of these herbs comes along with oversimplified or diminished ideas about what they can do. If we ask “what does this herb help with?” and answer it based only on what we see on store shelves and product websites, we'll miss out on a lot of possibilities!Every herbalist practicing in the US today should be familiar with these herbs, because they are the ones your clients are most likely to be taking even before they show up for an appointment with you. Their use may have implications for your own herbal recommendations, or serve as a jumping-off point for a more involved protocol. You may also be able to advise your clients about alternatives which may serve them better, or even some supplements that aren't really worth the price. So overall, this series is both an example of materia medica study and also a guide to ‘marketing literacy' for supplements.10. Awesome, funny, informative podcast! I'm a 65 male, 5/7, 145 lbs, sport active, eat very healthy, and on no prescribed medications. My problem is low semen volume. I realize this has a lot to do with age, but it's actually been a problem since my 20s. It's really low now even with limited 2x/week masturbation. I have no problems with erections, though. I read a lot about Ashwagandha and Fenugreek supplements that MAY help produce more semen volume and testosterone. After 3 weeks at my physical exam, my doctor told me to stop the supps b/c Fenugreek is for pregnancy and Ashwagandha can be very toxic to the liver. I stopped even though I did notice a slight improvement in just those 3 weeks. Any advice on these supps and increasing semen volume?"  GREAT questions!  If YOU have a question you'd like answered on the show anonymously, visit our website www.armormenshealth.com and submit your question at the top, right.  Again, we'll answer your questions anonymously!  For real!  Thanks for listening and sharing this radio show turned podcast with your friends!  Voted top Men's Health Podcast, Sex Therapy Podcast, and Prostate Cancer Podcast by FeedSpot.Dr. Mistry is a board-certified urologist and has been treating patients in the Austin and Greater Williamson County area since he started his private practice, NAU Urology Specialists, in 2007.  Donna Lee works with Dr. Mistry as NAU Urology Specialists' Director of Business Development and she's also a professional standup comedian. We enjoy hearing from you! Tribugen | How We Took Tribulus To The Next LevelTribulus Terrestris is a powerful supplement that boosts energy, motivation, and vitality! This month, Emiel and Erika discuss how Nootropics Depot took Tribulus Terrestris to the next level with Tribugen, our optimized stack that combines Tribulus with Mung Bean, Cordyceps, Dioscorea nipponica, and Fenugreek. Each ingredient in Tribugen was selected to compliment the stimulating and motivating effects of Tribulus, and in this episode Emiel discusses the mechanisms of action that are responsible for these effects. Before Tribugen made it's debut, the team at Nootropics Depot tried a variety of Tribulus Terrestris extracts to find the most motivating but smooth extract that would shine as a stand-alone product. When making Tribugen, we wanted to increase the motivation benefits of Tribulus, but to smooth out the stimulation and edginess of Tribulus when taken on its own. After a year of bioassaying Tribugen, adjusting the dosages of the synergistic ingredients, and sharing the pre-released stack with friends, family and colleagues, we arrived at the finished product. Join Richard in this weeks episode of The Veg Grower Podcast. This week Richard has had to protect his garden from the cold weather and removed a gooseberry bush from the allotment. Richard also ways in on a debate about is it too early for sowing seeds. Garden update: Protecting from frost This week the temperature has really dropped. Although there is not much actively growing in the garden at the moment, what is growing needs protecting. Richard has covered his plants with some horticultural fleece in order to protect them from frost. Richard has also wrapped his wormery with fleece, bubble wrap and even a duvet to protect the worms from getting too cold too. A wormery is a great addition to any garden as any kitchen waste gets thrown into the wormery of which the worms munch through and create compost. Other tasks in the garden have included building a new bed and spreading wood ash onto his beds for extra potash. Nothing gets wasted here. This week in the supporters club Rating and reviewing this podcast really helps this podcast get discovered by new listeners. This week we was left a lovely review from Lynn about how the discussion on plug plant trainers was very useful information. This type of feedback is valuable to us. So please do Rate and review. Martha Barra Our guest today on California Wine Country with Steve Jaxon and Dan Berger is Martha Barra from Barra of Mendocino, the vineyards and winery. Martha was on CWC one other time, on this episode of November 18, 2020. Barra of Mendocino is and always has been an organic farm, even before certifications existed. Their tasting room is located about 10 miles north of Ukiah. Redwood Valley Vineyards is the vineyard estate which is about 5 miles from there. Dan mentions that too much fertility in the soil is not favorable to wine grapes. As you drive up the 101, past Hopland, there are fewer vineyards visible. When you finally get up to Ukiah, that is the last outpost for fine wine in California, and Barra is right in this zone. Then, there are just a few in Humboldt. They open a bottle of Barra wine for tasting that Dan says is “fabulous…exotic.” It has won several gold medals and is Dan's white wine of the year.  This 2022 Pinot Blanc tastes as it is supposed to taste, made with no oak at all. It is delicious and ready to drink now, fresh. Pinot Blanc There are 4 or 5 good Pinot Blancs around and they all come from Mendocino County. This is due to the soils, as Martha explains. They don't get the fog influence in their weather. There is a 15 degree diurnal shift. Among all the tropical and fruity flavors that Dan discerns in this Pinot Blanc, he also detects a trace of Fenugreek. Martha mentions that this wine comes from two different clones. The older one was planted in 1962. Barra only started making wine in 1998 and Pinot Blanc in about 2000. Before that they were just growers. There are only 438 acres of Pinot Blanc and Barra has 14 of them. Girasole and Barra of Mendocino wines are available at Bottle Barn. Winesong is Dan's favorite annual event. It is a wine festival held in Mendocino, a fund raiser for the local hospital. Barra of Mendocino is always there. Martha would give a bee to each guest as a symbol that Barra of Mendocino is an organic farm. Later she learned that many people would keep the bees as souvenirs. Dan remembers the wine from Mendocino County as early as 1981. Back then the wine was not very good. The fruit had potential and eventually their winemaking skills caught up to the quality of the grapes they grow there. John Parducci was a winemaker who helped them make the leap in quality. Girasole They also taste a Girasole wine. The name means "sunflower" in Italian. They have had to defend the trade mark Girasole from competitors who had been using the brand, which is exclusively Barra's. Dan reminds us that Barra wines and wines from Mendocino generally are less expensive than wines from other places, and give great value. There are only 88 wineries in Mendocino, which is not a lot. Many of them, like Barra, are small producers. A lot of the new wineries are Pinot Noir producers in Anderson Valley. Barra also makes Sangiovese and an excellent Petit Syrah.

Fenugreek, a culinary herb with a rich history dating back to ancient times, has gained considerable attention in recent years for its remarkable health benefits. I was surprised to how popular it is as a Google search, so I decided it was time to write about fenugreek. Traditionally used in Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine, this versatile plant has become increasingly popular in modern wellness practices. In this article, you'll discover the impressive benefits of fenugreek for males and females, its potential as an appetite suppressant, and how it may support healthy hair and testosterone levels. Nutritional Profile of Fenugreek Before delving into the benefits of fenugreek, I want to point out some of its nutrition contents. Rich in macronutrients, vitamins, and minerals, fenugreek also contains a wealth of phytochemicals and antioxidants that contribute to its powerful health-promoting properties.Kaviarasan S, et al. Phenolic antioxidants from the seeds of Trigonella foenum-graecum (fenugreek). Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry. 2004;52(20):6244-6249. Journal of Food Science and Engineering. 2014;4(1):1-6. Keep in mind that you'd still need to eat a substantial amount compared to eating meat, and they wouldn't offer the same amino acid profile. Comprised of 58% carbohydrates, fenugreek is primarily made up of dietary fiber, which plays a crucial role in supporting healthy digestion, which is where part of the health benefits of fenugreek comes from. And, it's low in fat, which may be important to some people. Fenugreek | From Mummies to Modern Supplements | The Return of an Ancient Mood BoosterFenugreek boosts mood, enhances motivation and supports your workout recovery. If we were giving superlatives, Fenugreek would certainly win the “team player” award! Many of us are likely familiar with this botanical, due to its incorporation into various foods, most notably curries, and imitation maple syrup. Fenugreek is also famously used for its fitness-boosting effects, with some claiming it enhances testosterone levels. Yet, the nootropic and mood-boosting effects of fenugreek remain relatively unexplored, although murmurs of these effects are sprinkled all over the web. On this episode we dig deeper into these unique mood, cognition and fitness-enhancing effects, finally getting to the root of what this wonderful botanical is capable of! A big focus of this episode is on the bioactive compounds in fenugreek, specifically, trigonelline and protodioscin, two of the compounds we have standardized our fenugreek extract for. Trigonelline is a compound that is found in relatively high amounts in coffee, and appears to contribute to both the stimulating and mood-boosting effects of this invigorating elixir! It's a compound we became intimately familiar with during our research for our take on a highly efficacious caffeine stack, which ended up materializing as DynaMAX. Although trigonelline never made it into DynaMAX, it's a compound we kept in the back of our minds, waiting for a chance to explore it further. Turns out, fenugreek was that chance! Combining the dopamine-releasing properties of trigonelline, with the motivation, and confidence-enhancing properties of protodioscin, resulted in a really unique effects profile. Imagine Tribulus, but tuned down in terms of aggressive energy, and tuned up in terms of mood-brightening properties. Quite the winning combination in our books! This month, your hosts Emiel and Erika dive into an exciting conversation and discuss:Our new fenugreek extract and its standardized compounds, protodioscin and trigonellineHow fenugreek boosts focus and motivationWhy trigonelline is an important compound for mood in both fenugreek and coffeeCreating the ideal pre-workout and post-workout stackThe mechanisms for fenugreek's metabolic health benefitsBe sure to subscribe to the In Search of Insight podcast on your favorite streaming platforms, and join a community of like-minded nootropics geeks just like you on Reddit at r/NootropicsDepot.Follow Us On Social Mediahttps://www.facebook.com/NootropicsDepot/https://www.instagram.com/nootropicsdepot/https://www.reddit.com/r/NootropicsDepot/new/Buy Fenugreek from Nootropics Depothttps://nootropicsdepot.com/fenugreek-extract-capsules/

"The pillar of fixing hormones is balancing your blood sugar before you do anything. Even with supplements, if fluctuating blood sugar is not addressed, you will fail because you're constantly inflamed and not fueling your cells properly.”Confusing and outdated health advice crowds the industry today. Too much emphasis has been given on limiting carbs, calorie counts and diets. Most certified dietitians also do not understand metabolism, or how fast our bodies burn fat or manufacture sugar into energy that we could actually use.Stabilizing blood sugar is THE topic that we all ought to talk about. Aside from the dreaded diabetes, did you know the high correlation of unchecked glucose with cardiovascular disease, cancer and other maladies? Also, not to mention that insulin resistance is a huge factor behind stubborn belly fat, excessive food cravings, brain fog, low energy and inflammation, just to name a few.Gutsy Health Podcast Co-host, Gina Worful, is a blood sugar expert. As a busy wife and mother of two, she understands the challenges modern women face when it comes to putting their health and wellbeing first. Unfortunately for many women self-care has become a dirty word and yet another unrealistic expectation on our never-ending to-do list. Success and self-care go hand in hand. The more you care for yourself, the happier you will be and less likely to reach for things that aren't good for you. Self-care doesn't need to be one more thing you add to your to-do list. Naturopathic doctor, Dr. Olivia Rose, shares insights on how diet, supplements, herbs, acupuncture and sleep affect your sex drive and overall health. She reveals what foods you should eat in the morning, what substances you should avoid at night, and how hormones play a role in libido. Follow Dr. Olivia on... Twitter  Instagram Facebook  Have a question about naturopathic treatments, clinical nutrition etc.? Join Dr. Olivia every Thursday on Vitarock's Facebook page for her weekly 'Ask Me Anything' Facebook Live broadcast. You can find a quick summary of the episode below. (Thanks to Dr. Olivia for providing these notes!) 1. What is naturopathic medicine? Tell us about your practice. Naturopathic medicine is a health care system that blends modern scientific knowledge and evidence with traditional and natural forms of medicine. As NDs, we assess the whole person by providing physical examinations, nutrition, lifestyle and mental health assessments and we refer for blood work at our local labs when necessary. I have a general practice, however, I do tend to focus on women and men's health, gastrointestinal health, immune, skin and children's health. Lifestyle, nutrition, herbs and acupuncture are the modalities I use the most. 2. What is the most common sex-related problem patients present with? (We're assuming low libido is up there.) What are some lifestyle causes of low libido? Low libido is common, especially in women. At least women tend to talk about it more, vaginal dryness, pain during sex and erectile dysfunction in males come up frequently. Lifestyle causes of low libido include poor diet (e.g. not enough or an excess – too much alcohol, caffeine, sugar, fat, processed foods, and also eating too little – not eating frequently enough, not having enough of the key micronutrients such as iron and B12 and macronutrients (missing healthy fat, protein etc.) which are important for blood circulation and hormone health; metabolic syndrome is a condition characterized by high blood pressure, central obesity, elevated blood sugar and abnormal cholesterol and triglyceride levels that increase your risk for stroke, heart disease and diabetes, inactivity – being active maintains good circulation to your pelvic floor and genitalia. Regular physical activity also helps to balance your hormones and maintain healthy testosterone levels. Stress – relationship, workplace, environmental – can play a role. 3. How does diet affect libido? Your diet can play a huge role in sexual desire. Going back to the not enough or too much diets – both can affect libido. Your libido relies on circulation and if your diet isn't conducive to promoting healthy circulation, your libido will be affected. 4. How does diet effect mood and relationships more generally? Diet and digestion are closely tied to mood. Certain foods and additives in our food supply can have a negative effect on your mood such as MSG – some people are sensitive to MSG and report feeling sluggish, depressed or angry after consuming it. However, the first thing I do before even changing anyone's diet is to make sure they are eating regularly. Eating at regular intervals can make a huge difference in regulating your mood. It also helps to balance your blood sugar and insulin. I emphasize a diet that contains enough protein with each meal because protein gets broken into the amino acids we require to make our hormones. 5. Can herbs/supplements be used to address libido? Can herbs/supplements be used to improve mood (and relational interactions)? There are many herbs that have traditionally been used for sexual enhancement and mood stabilization for centuries. Fenugreek is a popular culinary spice in South Asian dishes and in Ayurvedic medicine. It's backed by promising research that it can increase sexual arousal and orgasms. It's thought to contain plant chemicals that serve as precursors to estrogen and test...

Just call 1-877-209-9439 and leave a voicemail, leave a Skype voicemail to username "pacificfit", or e-mail ben@bengreenfieldfitness.com. Alecio asks: 1.  If I live and train at an elevation between 5000 and  9000 feet but race at sea level how will my heart rates differ and how should I change my racing? 2.  The next question is regarding cardiac drift?  Can you talk a bit about it and how ironman or endurance racing is affected by it? In my response to Addy, I reference the Marathon Dominator program. Addy asks: I am only about 7 weeks into a 16 week marathon training program for a marathon I am planning on running in October. I have missed the last THREE weeks of running due to foot injuries and was finally diagnosed this morning with tendinitis in both feet. I was told to take yet another week off. Am I screwed for my marathon? Will cycling keep me on track? And if so, in order to accumulate my running mileage, do I just double the length of my rides to equal the length of my running? I thought maybe I could try aqua jogging too, but I'm not sure how to track distance in the water. Twitter user Franks asks:  @bengreenfield whats ur take on Amino Vital Product (Pro r er7500) for Distance runners? Training 4 a Full. Listener Christine asks: Ben, I am training for  a November ironman in northern Florida.  I live in Miami where it is ungodly hot.  The long rides on the weekend are particularly tough to get through.  I use Hammer Endurolytes and lots of water and Gatorade. Any suggestions for training in such humidity? Listener Mindy asks: What is your opinion of TRX suspension training?  It looks like it can completely replace my normal routine of resistance band training and bodyweight exercises -  is this a good idea, or should I keep mixing it up with different pieces of equipment?  I prefer to exercise outdoors and I feel that TRX suspension offers a lot more variety than flat ground or playground equipment. Twitter user sairbear asks: @bengreenfield what about running drills? Each week I do repeats of knee lifts, butt kicks, side glides & others over 25m. Are they useful? Listener Richard asks: Every night I grind pumpkin, sunflower and linseed with my coffee bean grinder for breakfast for my family the next day. I soak the seeds over night often in dilute lemon juice. The question I have is if there is anything more I can do to make the seeds more digestible or if there is anything else I need to be aware of when using seeds? Listener Kai asks: In episode 104's interview with Brendan at one point says that you don't need as many kCal if you consume higher quality / raw foods.  What is your take on this? In episode 104 one listener asked about certain supplements to aid with hiking at elevation (lived at sea level, going to CO).  Would those same supplements help with running at altitude?  I travel to Boulder quite a bit and my runs are really slow there, which I assume is attributable to the elevation / oxygen level. Twitter user BanksH asks: @bengreenfield whats your take on the effectiveness of the kona endurance products for improving AT? Listener Robert asks: Is there any study or proof that using a protein shake will cause pancratitis? The reason I ask is on Sunday, July 25th I went for my training ride and when was done I had a protein shake.  About an hour after this I was in so much pain I went to the E.R. and after a heart test and a blood test they told me my pancreatic enzymes were 5 times higher than what they should be. Listener Paul asks: I have seen ads for a  supplement (Mdrive4men) that contains testofen from Fenugreek seed. It is  supposed to raise testosterone. As an older athlete (62 yr. old), this  interests me.  Always looking for an edge over my running and biking  buddies.  I'd be interested in your thoughts on testofen and raising  testosterone in older athletes. Listener Chuck asks: I have 3 half Ironman races coming up.  The first is September 11th then a 3 week break, another October 2nd (HalfMax Championships), and then a 2 week break finishing with Austin 70.3 on October 16th.  So that's 3 within 5 weeks.  How do I structure my training around these races to perform optimally at all of them?  They are all A races (well I'd like them to be) for me and they are all championships and qualifiers.  What changes should I make beginning now in terms of races that I am doing as well? Listener Bob asks: Can you give some advice for finding a general doctor that agrees with the things talked about on your podcast?    I am looking for a Dr. that agrees with or at least will support and understand the holistic lifestyle, supplements, etc.  What questions do I ask or is there a website or a membership designation I should look for when searching? In my response to Bob, I mention http://www.acam.org Timothy asks: I heard that you are not supposed to eat before bedtime, especially carbs because it inhibits your bodies natural production of HGH. Is this true, and does your body produce HGH while you sleep? Brad asks: Ben could you please review the product Animal Pack as a multiple vitamin. My gym friends swear by them because of the large percentages of RDA vitamins and the resulting fluorescent urine. I am skeptical about Animal Packs effectiveness. Please settle the debate. Listener Mark asks: I just started listening to you podcasts and they are great- a lot of good information on many topics. I would appreciate some training advice - I broke my collarbone in a bike crash about 4 weeks ago. I am registered for the BAA Half Marathon on October 10. I am not supposed to run for another 3 weeks and have been doing spinning and elliptical trainer. Any other suggestions on building my base until I can start running and, when I do start running, how hard should I train. (I run about a 2 hour half and cycle more than I run in the summer) In my response to Mark, I mention http://www.allegromedical.com/orthopedics-orthotics-c528/figure-8-clavicle-splint-p557956.html and this article: http://ironman.com/events/ironman/ironman-world-championship/toughing-out-the-ironman Listener Lorie calls in and asks if Vitamin K supplements would be beneficial for bone density after being on a proton pump inhibitor from ibuprofen related ulcers. In my response to Laurie I also mention magnesium from Natural Calm. In my response to Laurie, I recommend Phenocane as a natural alternative to ibuprofen. Do you have a question for Ben?
