Fica a pergunta.REFERÊNCIAS ÚTEISCohen, Carl e Tom Regan, «The Animal Rights Debate» (Rowman & Littlefield)DeGrazia, David, «Animal Rights: A Very Short Introduction» (Oxford)Edmonds, David, org.,«Future Morality» (Oxford)Scruton, Roger, «Animal Rights and Wrongs» (Continuum)Singer, Peter, «Animal Liberation Now» (Vintage)London, Jack, «The Call of the Wild» (Porto Editora)Torga, Miguel, «Bichos» (Dom Quixote)Vladimov, Georgi, «Faithful Ruslan» (Simon & Schuster)BIOSMANUEL CARDOSOÉ humorista e um dos autores do programa de sátira política «Isto É Gozar com Quem Trabalha», da SIC. Claudia talks to lawyer and philosopher Gary Francione about abolition. Gary provides an overview of how ideas related to animals have emerged and changed since the 19th century. This includes the emergence of animal welfare, animal rights, and abolitionism. Throughout the interview Gary asserts that animal welfare and animal rights will not achieve anything until there is a paradigm shift whereby animals are no longer understood as property, food, or things to use. Date Recorded: 5 October 2023. Gary Francione is a is a published author and frequent guest on radio and television shows for his theory of animal rights, criticism of animal welfare law and the property status of nonhuman animals. He has degrees in philosophy and clerked for U.S. Justice Sandra Day O'Connor. He is the author of numerous books and articles on animal rights theory and animals and the law. His most recent book is the 2020 publication Why Veganism matters: The Moral Value of Animalsand other titles include The Animal Rights Debate: Abolition or Regulation? (Columbia University Press, 2010) and Animals, Property, and the Law (Temple University Press, 1995). He is also the editor of Critical Perspectives on Animals: Theory, Culture, Science and Law, a series published by Columbia University Press. Gary has been teaching animal rights for more than 25 years and, together with Professor Ana Charlton, started and operated the Rutgers Animal Rights Law Clinic from 1990-2000, making Rutgers the first university in the U.S. to have animal rights law as part of the regular academic curriculum and to award students academic credit, not only for classroom work, but also for work on actual cases involving animal issues. On the 141 Report this week, Brother Dave Lehive speaks to Spirit Airlines Local 368 IAM member Chris Willis. Brother Willis served on the union negotiating team that recently produced a historic Tentative Agreement for membership at the airline. The Agreement will create the highest wages and overall compensation rates for ramp agents in the airline's history. Our members will receive wage increases that are, on average, 30% higher than they are now. Lead premium increases, more opportunities for double-time pay, and new trainer positions will allow Machinists Union members to earn even more from their current work. If ratified, this deal will also bring paid vacations to part-time agents. For some, this will be the first real vacation they have ever known. "I would like to thank the National Mediation Board for listening and resolving some of the issues we were having with the company," Chris said. "The NMB came in and was very fair about the whole process but it was a very tense time." Brother Chris also thanked 141 President Directing General Chair Mike Klemm and 141 AGC Tony Gibson, Andrea Myers, and Grand lodge representative Tom Regan for help achieving this vital Agreement. The current membership at Spirit is based in Fort Lauderdale and includes 282 members. That number is expected to increase to over 410 by the end of the year. Brother Chris also talked highly of his negotiations partners Almarie Jean, Linda Germain, and Gregory De La Cruz saying that they were "absolutely a fantastic team." He finished by saying, "it was well worth it." The members in Fort Lauderdale will be voting on November 4th on the TA, which the entire Negotiations team has endorsed and urged the members to ratify. Brother Willis and Dave were among the hundreds of Machinists and Aerospace union members attending the annual District 141 Committee Conference, which took place this week in Las Vegas. Chris said of the Conference, "it was like a family reunion, and it sharpened our tools." "I'm happy for the knowledge I'm getting here, because Covid has brought us a different swing to what we do... but we are at a very happy time now."

Episode 24. In this episode, we hear from Dr. Catherine Oliver. Catherine’s studies in vegan geographies have led her to explore how and why people take up veganism, and how for the majority of them, veganism is a politics that is felt, emotionally and physically, and lived and performed. This embodied politics contrasts with the simplistic sound bites of social media influencer-activists. We also hear about Catherine’s study of Richard Ryder’s work, and how a group of men including Tom Regan and Peter Singer came to dominate the discourse of animal rights. Catherine also outlines some of the questions she intends to look at within her current area of investigation – the rehoming of chickens, particularly in London – and the complications and possible outcomes around this. Roger Yates has been an ethical vegan and rights-based animal advocate since the late 1970s. Roger shares with us his path into the AR movement and veganism, and gives us an insight into the often overlooked radical nature of the early vegan pioneers. We explore the confusion in the movement, and ask whether we actually have an Animal Rights Movement at all. Roger gives his perspectives on celebrity vegan culture, large international organisations and why grassroots activism is the backbone of the movement. From wasps to Gary Glitter, via Tom Regan, ALF and a blow to the head from a police baton, Roger talks candidly, and with a generous slice of humour.

Note: There is a typo in the title of the podcast attached. The title of the post and podcast should both read "Jerneja" (not Jerneya). We know that food and politics are involved, especially because we know what is being subsidized...so at this point, being vegan is really a political stance. The 18th interview in this series, features Jerneja Caserta (Tomsic). Jerneja is one of the most interesting and outwardly passionate people I know. Her compassion for sentient beings has no bounds, her dedication to distilling and disseminating knowledge about veganism is perpetual, and her courage to speak her truth is admirable. Jerneja has been vegan for over 6 years. In this interview, she shares a glimpse of what she has learned and the evolution of her personal vegan journey. Jonathan (@berkreviews) and Corey (@coreyrstarr) are both big fans of many of the Coen's films, but both still have some gaps in their filmography. In fact, by the end of this month, Jonathan will have completed viewing all of the directed films by the brother duo, an accomplishment he's been waiting on for a couple of years. For Corey, it's a chance to check off two major early films from the Coen's that she just hadn't gotten around to watching...until now. As far as the podcast goes, each episode features an in-depth review of the movie for the week. They begin with a spoiler-free review before diving in completely after the needed spoiler warning. However, before getting into the review of the week, Jonathan and Corey discuss what other movies they've seen since the last episode as well as anything else they feel like discussing. To help them decide which of the many films to watch each month they started creating themes for them all. Week 2: Miller's Crossing (1990) One of Corey's biggest gaps is the beloved Miller's Crossing (1990). A good friend and podcast collaborator Michael Sanchez recommended this years ago and Berk watched it during his initial run of 366 in 366. The film stars Gabriel Byrne, Albert Finney, John Turturro (another Coen regular), and others in this gritty crime drama. Reflections will cover recent activity on our page which has proven controversial or which invites a bit of reflection / further discussion. In this week's reflections we comment on a share on our page from Professor Gary L Francione, who in turn was commenting on the non-veganism of Paul McCartney. What was our share really getting at, what were we not saying, what is our view on Abolitionism and the Abolitionist Approach? This is our first Reflections recording and our first audio recording with podcast in mind, so it is something of an experiment. It was not scripted, there was no planning and so it may be something of a ramble. It may also not be word perfect in terms of conveying our viewpoint. We're not perfect ;-) Notes for further reading and listening: Francione and Charlton, Abolitionist Approach: https://www.facebook.com/abolitionistapproach/ http://www.howdoigovegan.com/ https://www.facebook.com/abolitionistapproach/videos/1436568696362880/ https://www.abolitionistapproach.com/audio/ http://www.abolitionistapproach.com/category/podcast/ https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/animal-rights-the-abolitionist-approach-commentary/id327041563?mt=2 Tom Regan: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_pNsWs6_Ho https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0dl1BMEZCc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xj-MJKFM0Zs Introduction to Tom Regan’s The Case for Animal Rights: https://animalstudiesrepository.org/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1003&context=acwp_awap http://www.animal-rights-library.com/texts-m/regan03.htm Charlton and Francione discussion of the history of the animal rights movement, following the death of Tom Regan: http://onhumanrelationswithothersentientbeings.weebly.com/the-blog/charltonfrancionelinden-countermovment-on-tom-regan Francione, Between the Species: Reflections on Tom Regan and an Animal Rights Movement That Once Was: https://digitalcommons.calpoly.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?referer=https://www.google.co.uk/&httpsredir=1&article=2165&context=bts On Specieism: https://theresanelephantintheroomblog.wordpress.com/2018/01/22/speciesism/ On Intersectionality: Human rights and non-human animal rights: http://arzone.ning.com/page/arzone-intersectionality-interviews https://sanctuarypublishers.com/ Go Vegan Scotland: www.goveganscotland.com
(http://businessleaderspodcast.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/BLPBLPbanner-1.jpg) There is a level of sophistication in the cannabis industry that most people don’t know of. It is operated by a lot of bright people doing smart work with organic nutrition and data gathering. Tom Regan, President of Mindful, a cannabis company in Colorado, has taken the business from growing and extracting to distributing and retailing. Coming in to the company, his biggest challenge was to balance the cannabis culture and the corporate culture which meant that respect needs to come from both sides. More than just data collection and management, he needed the company to understand the history of cannabis and its social issues, where it came from and where is it headed. Watch the episode: Listen to the podcast: Balancing The Cannabis Culture And The Corporate Culture with Tom Regan We have a unique treat. We’re here with (https://bemindful.today/) . Tell us a little bit about what you do and the customers you serve. Thanks, Bob. Thanks for having me. Mindful is our retail and cultivation brand. We are a cannabis company located in Colorado. As President of the company, my job is to make sure the trains run on time and we serve our customers. Part of our business is we have a 40,000 square foot grow here in Denver. We have a 25,000 square foot extraction facility and a retail footprint throughout the Colorado area. On top of that, we have a B2B business where we sell our products to other retailers. You were kind enough to give me a tour and it reminds me of a surgical suite when you come in here. The place is clean and the data gathering here is incredible. Shed some light on what you did before here. In my prior career, I was a Director at Cisco Systems for about twelve years. For those of you that don’t know Cisco Systems, it’s not the food company, it’s the computer company. Cisco is about a $50-billion a year company now. My job was to manage the worldwide supply chain, do product integrations when we acquired companies and launch new products. Before that, I worked at a bunch of small high-tech startups in the networking space in the Boston area. A bunch of them got bought by large companies like Cisco and Intel. You said it was a $1 billion event that you managed at the time? At Cisco, I was responsible for about $10 billion of Cisco’s revenue from a manufacturing and supply chain perspective. I met many people here that had significantly advanced degrees in agronomy and horticulture. We had an engineer that was a farmer that is consulting all over. The misconception about the business is profound and I would tell you that this is a sophisticated. What do you reckon one grow room would take to set up? A 1,500-square foot to 2,000-square foot grow room would cost anywhere from $400,000 to $700,000 to set up. I was fortunate enough to see them. If you’re a gardener at all, you’re jealous. There are misters and there are fans and there are hydroponic stuff going on and all the RFID chips to manage. Not to belabor the point, but this is a highly sophisticated operation with bright people doing a lot of smart work on nutrition, organic work, and data gathering. You mentioned our workforce. We have about 90 employees in all of those four businesses. At the grower we’re at, the cultivation facility, we have a woman that has a master’s in horticulture. We have engineers, the whole gamut. If I had to go top of my head, of the 100 people, over 40 have a bachelor’s degree and a little less than fifteen have master’s degrees. I was unaware of the industry but the level of sophistication, tracking and compliance, you walk into the lobby, it’s gated in, and there’s more permits hanging on the wall there than you can shake a stick at to comply. This is a real life business. It goes from growing to extracting to...
In this episode of The Plant Trainers Podcast, we talk to Dr. Melanie Joy about improving relationships and the theory behind Beyond Carnism. Food is something very personal to us. We have been taught the ideology of food just like religion. Dr. Joy helps us unpack why we are so connected to the food we eat and the pets we live with. What we think you will be most interested to hear about is how we can maintain our good relationships or even improve our tarnished relationships around the area of food. As a psychologist and relationship specialist, she has unlocked the important aspects of talking to your partner about becoming plant-based or vegan. And how to keep things happy in a “mixed” relationship, and how not to get divorced!
