Engineer Aaron Lindenberg is an expert in the ways atoms and electrons move through materials. He uses X-ray “flash photography” to make movies of atoms moving at ultrafast speeds to predict the fundamental limits of electronics in future consumer devices, solar cells, and AI chips. He estimates we are “many orders of magnitude away” from the physical limits of both speed and energy efficiency in our electronics. The Food and Drug Administration is speeding up the review process of three psychedelic drugs. AP correspondent Donna Warder reports.

A União Europeia decidiu criar novas taxas para travar a entrada de produtos baratos vindos sobretudo da China. A França, a braços com um aumento significativo de “pequenos pacotes”, adiantou-se e começou a aplicar medidas próprias. Desde Março que, em França, compras feitas, essencialmente, em plataformas como Shein, Temu e AliExpress passaram a pagar uma taxa de dois euros por categoria de produto. A partir de Julho, a esta taxa será acrescentada uma outra taxa europeia de três euros, o que faz subir o total para cinco euros por artigo. O governo francês acusa estas empresas de evitarem a taxa, enviando primeiro os produtos para outros países europeus e só depois para França. Por isso, anunciou mais controlos nas fronteiras. Ao mesmo tempo, a Shein está sob pressão na Europa. Em Fevereiro, a Comissão Europeia deu início a um processo formal contra a Shein, ao abrigo do Regulamento dos Serviços Digitais, devido à sua concepção geradora de dependência, à falta de transparência dos sistemas de recomendação, bem como à venda de produtos ilegais, incluindo material referente a abusos sexuais de crianças. A polémica à volta da empresa de ultra fast fashion surgiu depois de ter sido apanhada a vender bonecas sexuais semelhantes a crianças no seu site em França. Doug Ryan, CEO of Arineta, describes the advancements in cardiac CT imaging technology and how their ultra-fast scanning is revealing more accurate and higher-quality imaging of the heart. Using wide-area coverage and deep learning image reconstruction, the Arineta platform can detect arterial occlusions and coronary plaque buildup, which is a significant risk factor for sudden cardiac events and is often missed when relying solely on calcium scoring. The development of a mobile cardiac CT scanning unit is improving access to this technology, particularly in rural and underserved areas. Doig explains, "What you're trying to do is to stop the most complex organ inside the human body. The human heart translates, rotates, and beats somewhere between 60 and 100 beats per minute. So you really need advanced CT technology that comprises a great many areas, but the most important things are coverage speed and the ability to reconstruct it very quickly." "You're using advanced algorithms like our DLIR, our deep learning image reconstruction, which focuses on high-contrast, high-spatial, low-noise reconstructions that can then be put into what we call a multiplanar format. So you can look at these coronary arteries from all angles and do the diagnostic." "So it's actually a combination of several things.
