Ace McCasland, a metalsmith and jewelry artist, shares her journey and creative process in this conversation with Christine. Ace started Studio Luna Verde and creates unique, eclectic, and out-of-the-box jewelry, which she fittingly describes as "wildcrafted jewelry". She draws inspiration from her travels and the landscapes she has encountered. Ace emphasizes the importance of exploring and seeking new experiences. She also discusses her teaching approach, encouraging students to embrace imperfection and push their boundaries while maintaining good craftsmanship. In this conversation, Christine and Ace discuss the importance of craftsmanship and authenticity in jewelry making. They explore the difference between creating organic and imperfect pieces with intention versus using imperfections as an excuse for poor craftsmanship. Ace shares her journey of starting her jewelry business and the challenges she faced along the way. They also discuss the importance of finding your own voice as an artist and staying true to yourself. Ace offers advice for those starting out in the craft and business of jewelry making. Bio... Ace, of Studio Luna Verde, set her roots in the shadow of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, after many years of exploring and hiking and wandering and driving all over the U.S., especially the west. Experiences have included driving 1950s era tour buses for Green Tortoise Adventure Travel / performing for a year with a three ring circus / hiking into (and out of) the Grand Canyon so many times she's lost count (at least eight) / living out of a '72 Toyota Landcruiser for three (and a half) years while exploring the U.S. / and failing miserably at surfing on the Sea of Cortez in Baja California. She loves spicy chocolate, and lightning storms. Her largest creation thus far is having built her own studio, where she currently makes her eclectic jewelry and unabashedly embraces the art of imperfection. Follow Ace & Studio Luna Verde... What is wildcrafted skincare? What are the benefits of wildcrafted skincare? And, what is this new magical “natural” anti-aging alternative to retinol everyone’s been talking about?! (hint: it's Bakuchiol). If these are questions you want answers to then you’ll absolutely want to tune in to this podcast episode with Kendra Kolb Butler, the founder of Alpyn Beauty. Kendra is a wild plant beauty enthusiast, former Manhattanite and 20-year beauty industry veteran who spent the majority of her career leading sales, marketing and public relations initiatives at leading luxury beauty companies from Givenchy and Dr. Dennis Gross Skincare to Clarins and Coty. But, in 2015, everything shifted in Kendra’s life when she swapped out her high-heels for hiking shoes and moved out west with her family in search of open spaces, fresh mountain air, and serenity. As you’ll hear in our conversation, this was a scary decision for Kendra, but one that opened so many new doors for her. In fact, it was this move that led Kendra to launching her own wildcrafted skincare line, Alpyn Beauty -- a sustainably sourced natural skin care line formulated with, wildcrafted and hand-cultivated alpine botanicals grown in the mountains surrounding Jackson Hole, WY. In this conversation Kendra shares all about the journey that led her to launching Alpyn Beauty, how climate affects your skin, the environmental and skincare benefits of using sustainably sourced wildcrafted botanicals, what wildcrafted skincare is, the importance of ingredient transparency when it comes to skincare products, how she defines "clean beauty” in an industry where there is no FDA legal definition for such terms, and so much more! Ayurveda 2 dentistry add ALL links CTFO ANCHOR RADIO BTR-Most people know the basics of dental hygiene. You should brush your teeth twice a day, floss daily and visit the dentist for regular cleanings and checkups. What fewer people may know is that there are a wide variety of holistic methods that can be implemented to improve overall dental health and reduce tooth pain. Learn natural ways to protect your teeth and alleviate tooth pain with the use of holistic methods, including cannabis. Holistic Methods to Protect Your Teeth and Alleviate Tooth Pain Naturally While dental hygiene, including flossing and proper brushing techniques, is key to preventing tooth pain, there are other great home remedies and holistic methods that can be used to both improve overall tooth health and alleviate tooth pain. These holistic methods to improve tooth and gum health include:1. Saltwater Rinse A quick swish with salt can do quite a lot for dental health. It can help to loosen food particles, soothe bleeding or sore gums, help wounds heal faster, and reduce inflammation. To prepare a saltwater rinse, boil water and add a teaspoon of salt. 2. Green Tea Green tea contains a compound that’s been shown to help with sensitive and aching teeth. Regularly drinking green tea may actually lead to healthier gums, which are essential for healthy teeth.3. Coconut Oil Oil pulling with coconut oil has several benefits, including a reduction of harmful bacteria in the mouth. To oil pull, measure a tablespoon of coconut oil, and swish through teeth for 15-20 minutes, before spitting out. 4. Clove Oil Clove oil is a great natural way to alleviate tooth pain because of its anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties. To use clove oil to treat tooth pain, simply soak a cotton swab with oil and apply it to the affected area.5. Garlic Garlic has antibacterial properties, and can also be used to alleviate tooth pain. To use, create a garlic paste to apply to the point of pain. Make sure to keep the paste in your mouth for 30 minutes, and use up to four times per day. 6. Cayenne Pepper Cayenne pepper contains capsaicin, which can be used for topical pain relief. Mix cayenne pepper with enough water to create a paste and apply directly to the point of pain. Something to Chew On: Do Cannabinoids Help? Research about cannabinoids in dentistry is new, but there’s evidence to suggest that CBD can help fight some types of tooth pain. A decade or so ago, we saw a big push in the Herb World toward Wildcrafted herbs because they make better, stronger medicine. That push endangered many wild areas and plant populations...and it underscored the importance of looking to Mother Nature to school us in growing good medicine. Today, we're talking with Tony DiMaggio, owner and operator of Sacred Blossom Polyculture Herb Farm, about Polyculture farming for strong Plants and Plant Medicine. Power Quotes From The Show The Gatekeeper Of Good Health "The mouth is the gatekeeper for your entire health. It is the basis for what your internal health is built upon. Most products on the market are destroying the good microbiome and creating an acidic environment inside your mouth. When that happens, minerals begin to leave your teeth and gum tissues start to break down. Anybody that suffers from bad breath, that is the very first sign that you have the wrong bacteria growing because they're thriving in an acidic environment. If that doesn't change, you're going to end up with gum disease and cavities which will then lead to digestive problems and internal health issues including heart disease and diabetes." - Trina Felber Death By Design "I call the whole design of the products that are on the market, 'Death by Design,' because they've been designed to make us sick. The antiseptic products that we're using that claim to kill 99% of all germs are very effective; unfortunately, they're killing the good bacteria inside the mouth that are part of your whole microbiome. Also, there are four amazing functions of saliva and the antiseptic products are destroying them so that your saliva doesn't protect you, your teeth don't remineralize, the microbiome inside you is destroyed in both your mouth and your digestive system, and your blood-brain barrier is disrupted.." - Trina Felber The Truth About Fluoride "Fluoride isn't doing anything for your health. In fact, since we've put fluoride in our water and in toothpaste, our health has declined. If our dental health declines, so will our internal health. If you reverse your dental health, you can very quickly reverse your internal health." - Trina Felber Links From Today's Show Organifi GREEN Primal Life Organics 21-Day Detox Kit Birch Organic Mattress by Helix 084 Dr. David Perlmutter 121 Dr. David Minkoff Dr. Weston Price Nutrition and Physical Degeneration by Weston A. Why we need to Detox. Because we live in a toxic world. What is a “TOXIN”? A poisonous substance causing disease when present in the body. Everything that we are exposed to seems to be, and most likely is filled with one encounter of a chemical - even water! As living beings, we should consider ourselves visions of a scale, when we teeter one way or the other too drastically, that is when instability and “disease” occurs. Balance is important. Did you know that over 85,000 chemicals are registered in the U.S. to be used in products (even foods) that we are absorbing each and every day? Your body is being assaulted by these disruptors leaving many of us with a number of health complaints. A vital reason as to why it is time to clean out the junk that is backing up our systems leaving us sluggish and perhaps craving sugar - only disappointing us in the end with extra pounds that feel as though they will never disappear. There are SO many toxins that are clogging our body’s natural ability to detoxify itself - our body cannot keep up on its own. This episode reveals common culprits to toxicity and SIMPLE starts on how to DETOX NOW!!! Note-taking is highly recommended. GUESS WHAT? Schizandu is the proud sponsor of this episode! Dita Curgus, is the Founder of Schizandu Organics. She is on a mission to bring truly natural and exceptional products to people to help them cleanse, detoxify and nourish from the inside out and the outside in. Born in Budapest, Hungary, to a home with no computers but all food “made from scratch” and put on the table from market-fresh or home-grown ingredients, she had participated in kitchen activities from very early on and started diving into books researching health-related topics at the age of 11. Her insatiable interest in science, health and longevity, as well as airplanes, led her on a journey to study plants and their healing qualities, all things mechanical, flying, and even looking into the feasibility of putting fuel cells on the latest Boeing models. While there was a time when she thought she would remain a pilot forever, after years of flying, she earned her Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering and her Master’s in Aerospace Engineering at UCLA while health-coaching in the evenings and on weekends. Even doing top secret work while an engineer for 5 years has left her with a feeling of void and she ended up getting a Health-Coaching Certificate to make her counseling official. To be efficient in health-counseling she felt too limited to one-on-one sessions and smaller groups and she had a desire to reach a larger crowd to be able to help more people who suffered unnecessarily. Soon after leaving engineering altogether, in January 2016, she founded Schizandu Organics to make her dreams of helping more people and making a difference quicker a reality. Today, she has reached 61,000+ customers across the globe and her products have been the choice of high-end health-food stores, restaurants all over the U.S. and beyond including Café Gratitude, Erewhon, L.A. Press, Menotti’s, Kippy’s Ice Cream, Rooted Juicery, Inscape Meditation Center, Wattle Café, Cathedral Coffee Shop, Bae Little Tokyo Ice Cream Shop, Narwhal’s Crafted Urban Ice, Hot 8 Yoga, Longevity Warehouse, The Shaman Shoppe , Coha Health Complimentary Medicine of Bermuda and many others. Scott Linde is the Founder of Sun Potion Transformational Foods, a company dedicated to health, happiness and well-being through the use of medicinal plants, superfoods and tonic herbs. Sun Potion brings the highest quality tonic herbs, algae, greens, and mushrooms available to all in single-ingredient, pure powder, and whole food form. Marni syncs up with Scott about the his entrepreneurial path through spiritual discovery and the healing powers of tonic herbs and mushrooms and how they promote healthy sleep cycles, balance hormones and cultivate a healthy immune system fortifying and building subtle energies in the body. Marni and Scott talk about his athletic childhood (skiing, running and competing on the U.S Triathlon team at 19) growing up in Minnesota; working in real estate in LA; followed by 5 years living off the grid and “JOB” free. During this 5 years, Scott spent his time reconnecting with himself and nature through dispersion camping, mountain biking and hiking in Oregon, living in a Yoga Ashram on Mount Madonna in Santa Cruz, and then the Ojai Foundation. It was here that he fell in love with tonic herbs, making them part of his daily life, and this organically evolved into his current company, Sun Potion Transformational Foods. Scott and Sun Potion have been featured everywhere from Allure, Elle, Glamour, Goop, Forbes and Vogue. People, places and things we mention on this episode: Erewhon Market http://www.erewhonmarket.com/ Rescue Spa http://www.rescuespa.net/ Pubmed.org https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/ Mount Madonna https://www.mountmadonna.org/ Ojai Foundation Adaptogens Ashwaganda Resihi Cordyceps Sun Potion Transformational Foods source the planet for potent, healing substances with the ability to transform consciousness and health. They work with suppliers who can meet our stringent quality standards and commitment to purity. They only source Organic and/or Wildcrafted products and we never use ingredients that have been chemically treated in any way. Sun Potion products are created and shared with integrity. Owner and Founder Scott Linde developed the company through his own transformational experience with these foods. With a background in Rolfing (Structural Integration), he began to notice profound shifts in his own body and consciousness with the addition of tonic herbs and superfoods to his diet. These shifts transcended the optimum state of well-being he had already sustained in his field of work! The line evolved from Scott's personal motivation to source the highest quality tonic herbs, algae, greens, and mushrooms from around the globe: simply because this was what he wanted to put in his body! With the natural tendency to share with others, Scott began to offer the foods to friends and clients, and the company formed in response to the positive shifts in the community's health and organically growing demand for these Transformational Foods. Today’s show explores terroir — the flavor of place. Discovering the wild flavors of your local bioregion is a smart and ecologically interactive way to intimately engage with your place and add context to the story of your food. Pascal Baudar — wild food researcher and a self-styled “culinary alchemist” — joins us to share his unique and inspiring niche in the wild food world: wildcrafted terroir. Based in southern California with access to many different ecosystems (mountain, desert, chaparral, and seashore) and 700+ different wildcrafted ingredients, Pascal is a brazen wild food experimenter who combines his knowledge of plants and his local landscape with the innovative techniques of a master food preserver and chef. Pascal was named one of the 25 most influential tastemakers in L.A. by Los Angeles magazine, and his locally sourced wild ingredients and unique preserves have made their way into the kitchens of such star chefs as Ludo Lefebvre, Josiah Citrin, Ari Taymor, Michael Voltaggio, Chris Jacobson and Niki Nakayama. He is the author of The New Wildcrafted Cuisine, an incredible book of culinary concepts and ideas featuring recipes and preservation techniques using a local terroir. Pascal is here to change how we think about wild food. He invites us to experiment with the wild ingredients in our own local bioregion and shares some examples of how he creatively crafts wild cuisine from the landscape he calls home. You’ll hear the wide variety of uses for wild sage, how he makes his own salt and how he uses insects in his wild ferments. Pascal’s work is rooted in love of place, and I hope he inspires you to infuse more local wild terroir into your own wild food plate. Join me in a deep exploration of one of human kinds more wonderful companion plants; cannabis. As a herbal medicine this plant, its many strains and it's phytochemistry are an obvious inclusion for medicine going forward in creating a holistic and integrated approach to healing the body. Shrouded with controversy and authoritarian suppression, cannabis has been dragged through an intense slander campaign for the past 100 years and has been denied to millions as a medicine we may incorporate into our lives and systems; but that is changing. Justin Sinclair is a patient advocate, herbalist and researcher who is on the front line here in Australia and internationally in bringing forth both the shift in cultural narrative around cannabis as well as the data and lore that blatantly tells us how deeply this plant can contribute to our wellness. We have the sovereign right to access medicine, especially when it offers no threat or harm. In this interview Justin and I explore this subject in depth. In this podcast you will learn about: Current efforts in changing the understanding of cannabis in mainstream media Cannabis prohibition and early propaganda campaigns in the 1930s Cannabis as an adjunctive medicine to chronic disease The discovery of the endo-cannabanoid system throughout the last 60 years The potent neuro-modulatory action of cannabis Is cannabis an adaptogen? Anandamide & Endorphin release How Genetic polymorphyisms in the endocannabanoid system may affect an individuals response to cannabis Lack of awareness in our current medical institution on the medicinal value of cannabis The standardisation of CBD and THC isolates Ethnobotany and cannabis use in traditional cultures Justin has spent decades exploring the diverse field of herbal medicine, both from a scientific and traditional perspective. He journeyed back to Australia to commence his 'formal' studies in 1997 with the University of New England (BHSc Naturopathy) and then completed the Master of Herbal Medicines degree with the University of Sydney's Faculty of Pharmacy in 2004. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Naturopaths & Herbalists Association of Australia, and In 2015, he was appointed to the Scientific Advisory Board of United in Compassion (UIC) which supports the use of medicinal Cannabis in Australia and acts as a hub to support, disseminate and promote safe, equitable and compassionate access to medicinal Cannabis at every stage from cultivation through to finished product. In January 2017, he was appointed as the Head Scientist for the Scientific Advisory Board for UIC. Herbal exorcisms. Helping our sickest patients to recover from mysterious and difficult to treat diseases. With seemingly inelegant formulas that at first glance look like a mix-mash of random herbs, Gu expelling formulas have their own unique dynamics that are worth learning how to use. These formulas help to extinguish the black magic from your patients who are cursed with otherwise incurable diseases. There is little doubt that Heiner Fruehauf is a genius when it comes to treating Gu Syndrome, and in this week's episode we go into more information about treating Gu Syndrome. Black Magic. What to do if your patient seems cursed? They've been sick for a long time and don't necessarily have positive tests for parasites or bacterial infection to justify their illness. Perhaps they're not responding to your herbal formulas the way you think they should? Maybe they feel better for a few days and then relapse. It's like an evil spell has been cast upon them and we need to effect change on more than just the physical layer. Chinese medicine classifies this knotted, deep seated condition as Gu Syndrome, and has a range of treatments dating back thousands of years. There is little doubt that Heiner Fruehauf is a genius when it comes to treating Gu Syndrome, and in this week's episode we were excited to be hearing some of the intricacies of identifying and treating Gu Syndrome.
