Commercial : CUofGA - Elon   STORY 1 life   A Marietta man, John Galczynski (68), has been sentenced to life in prison plus an additional 69 years and one year of probation for his conviction on charges of rape and child molestation. The Cobb District Attorney Flynn Broady Jr. announced the sentencing after a jury found Galczynski guilty. The case involved a minor disclosing a sexual assault to her therapist, revealing that Galczynski had repeatedly raped her from a young age. K-9 Rose, the DA's comfort dog, aided in preparing the victim for trial. Another victim testified that Galczynski had raped her from the age of 11 to 19. The successful collaboration between law enforcement, SafePath Children's Advocacy Center, and the jury ensured justice for the victims and prevented further victimization. ......................……... read more about this at mdjonline.com   Story 2: crash   Major Andrew Mettler, a Marine pilot, tragically lost his life when his F/A-18D Hornet fighter jet crashed near Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. Hailing from Marietta, Mettler was involved in routine training as a member of Marine All-Weather Fighter Attack Squadron 224. The cause of the crash is under investigation. Major Mettler, stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, South Carolina, joined the Marines in 2007 and received several awards throughout his career. Fellow Marines and commanders, including Maj. Gen. Scott Benedict, expressed their condolences, remembering his skill and leadership. Mettler was the sole person on the jet, and there are indications he ejected before the crash. His legacy will be honored as Marines continue to uphold the values he stood for.   Story 3: killed   A pedestrian was fatally struck in a crash on Franklin Gateway, Marietta. The incident, investigated by the Marietta Police Department, occurred around 8 p.m. in front of the Marietta Franklin Gateway Sports Complex. Initial findings indicate a 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan was heading northbound while a male pedestrian was walking southbound on the same road. The pedestrian entered the path of the oncoming van and was hit. He was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in critical condition and unfortunately succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival. Police are working on identifying the pedestrian and notifying next of kin. Information related to the incident can be shared with Officer P. The roster was selected following a competitive training camp in California. Team USA is the defending champion, and the tournament will take place from September 1st to 10th, beginning with a match against the Netherlands. Clavon, a senior, boasts an impressive .406 batting average and will play both infield and outfield positions. Clark, also a senior, is a catcher known for his strong work ethic and skills.     STORY 5: ksu   Kennesaw State University's Marietta campus has unveiled a newly renovated recreation and wellness center, with around 50% of the 36,000-square-foot facility receiving a $7.4 million makeover. The enhancements include new exercise equipment, a study room, fitness studio, and racquetball courts. Over 70 new strength and cardiovascular machines have been added, making up 83% of the facility's equipment. During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, university leaders expressed their enthusiasm for the upgraded space. The renovation project began in October 2022 and is part of ongoing efforts to improve the campus. Students consider the center a vital part of their experience, fostering connections and promoting well-being.   Story 6: owls   As Kennesaw State University's football team transitions from the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) to the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), they are adopting a flexible approach to lineups. The team plans to adjust their lineup based on opponents and specific goals set by the coaching staff. This strategy aims to redshirt as many players as possible, not just freshmen, by making use of a rule that allows players to participate in up to four regular season games without losing a year of eligibility. In this episode of E-Commerce with Coffee?! Destaney Wishon, the CEO, and co-founder of BetterAMS, joins the show to talk about Amazon ads. Destaney provides a high-level view of what's new on Amazon along with ways that brands can set ads up for success. With Destaney's deep knowledge in Amazon ads from all the work she does for brands at BetterAMS, her insights include technical tips as well as a bigger look at the industry and how it's changing. Changes are coming so fast, she says, that it's podcasts like this one that can make the difference. Listen to the full interview to hear what she has to say! What to listen for: The interview starts with a look at how Destaney co-founded her Amazon ad business. For starters, Destaney's from Rogers, Arkansas, known as the hometown of Wal-Mart. “I was always surrounded by vendors,” she describes. The commercial environment in Rogers is a unique one, and Destaney had opportunities to meet interesting people and learn about equally interesting opportunities. Talking about the challenges brands face today, Destaney describes how brands do so many things to keep up. “I see a brand doing everything, but no one thing super well,” she says. Amazon ads are one of those things that aren't being capitalized like they could be, Destaney points out, because even brands who are doing them don't have the time to do them as well as they could. Destaney then compares Amazon ads to other types of ads. “If you don't have a converting listing [for an Amazon ad],” she says, “your ad won't work.” This might seem self-evident to some folks, but compared with other types of ads on Facebook or Google, this is a big difference. Listen to the full episode to learn what Destaney tells us about buyer intent and how she set brands up for success. One of the first things brands can do now is learn about the different types of ads on Amazon and how to use them for their intended purpose. For example, sponsored ads are an opportunity for brands to get clicks for their keyword without waiting for SEO strategies to boost their listings. “Take your number-one keyword and type it onto Amazon,” Destaney suggests. That first listing item you see at the top is a sponsored ad, and that spot could be occupied by your brand instead. Video ads, too, are an intriguing new addition to the slew of Amazon ads you can try. “The best part about video ads is that they're PPC,” Destaney notes. This means that you only get charged when users click. Users can even watch your video all the way through, but without that click, you won't be charged. Amazon, therefore, tries to get your video seen by the people with the red-hot intention to buy your product then and there. Destaney continues, “on Amazon, 70% of ad collateral requires zero creative control.” She then points to video content and other creative ad collateral as a great example of something brands can outsource to spend more of their own time getting deeper into Amazon ad strategy. Not only are there more brands on Amazon since the pandemic, but there are more users, too. The space is ripe with possibilities. “There's no way for any one individual to keep up in this environment,” Destaney advises. The Restore Equality 2010 campaign is working to repeal the anti-marriage equality proposition 8 in California in 2008. Since our conversation there have been several developments, the language has been submitted to the California Secretary of State, restoreequality2010.com is live with volunteer opportunities, donation information and the latest on the ballot initiative. Restore Equality 2010 has also launched the “Million for a Million” fundraising campaign. Organized by Yes! on Equality and TruthandHope.org, in collaboration with Restore Equality 2010, the goal of the “Million for a Million” campaign is to raise the $1 million necessary to fund getting the more than one million signatures needed to place a marriage equality initiative on the ballot. Jay Arseno began his career as a singer in a church choir and musical theatre in his native Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He is a passionate, true artist with emotional expression. He is a writer, a producer, a performer. Jay also enjoys collaborating with other artists, to meld unique tastes in sound and texture. Over the past year he has worked with hit producers I-ROC and RADIO towards the ending results, “From The Ashes”. Jay's new single, “Take It From The Ashes”, comes off of his new album titled, “From The Ashes”, released on March 6, 2009. You can easily identify with this new single. It applies to everyone, although Jay admits that it may be somewhat autobiographical. “It draws on the legend of the Phoenix, in that it's about starting over, a rebirth, a trial through fire where you come out on the other side with a fresh start.” The mission statement of the single is simple: No matter what you go through in life, you can always pick yourself up, gather all the pieces together and keep moving forward. Since the last episode there have been several developments that affect the lives of LGBT people across the country. First, our biggest win! Just days after the 11th anniversary of Matthew Shepard's death, the “Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act” was passed by both Congress and the Senate and signed into law by President Obama. This is long overdue piece of legislation expands protections to people who are victims of violence which are perpetuated by their sexual orientation or gender identity. This is the first of many legislative priorities for our community, and just the beginning of what we will be working for until full equality is achieved. The next major piece of legislation that has been introduced on the federal level is the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Employment_Non-Discrimination_Act (“Employment Non-discrimination Act”). For the first time ever, a member of the current administration has testified in both Congress and the Senate in favor of a fully inclusive ENDA. Although it doesn't appear the Senate will vote in this legislation until early next year, it is imperative that our representatives and senators hear from us on this vital piece of legislation for the LGBT community.
