Picture yourself teaching yoga on the beach one minute and sipping drinks with straws the next. Teaching vacation programs make this possible and have for decades now. Learn how ideas are incubated, born and nurtured into something you're proud of. I had one more question to ask, about whether there were any success stories from FitBodies, Inc. Then she told me about her experience with assuming her own strength because she had to. As she answered, I deleted every letter of that question. You'll understand when you hear it. My guest today blends the exact tropical vacation and complimentary services you want with the ability to teach fitness classes from the beach or lanai and be sipping a drink with an umbrella at the pool soon after. Enjoy 24 hour room service and a week away from it all. If you fancy a teaching vacation, stay tuned, we'll tell you how. My Guest: Suzelle Snowden is the founder of Fit Bodies, Inc., the creator of the largest teaching vacation organization in the world. Fit Bodies, Inc. blends the vacation aspirations of exercise professionals with the wellness needs of a luxury resort. Suzelle's passion is to share fitness with others! With over 35 years in the fitness industry, Suzelle is ACE CPT and GFI with numerous other certifications including Spinning®, Yoga Alliance E-RYT-200, Corefirst and Strong Nation. Do you collaborate with pros who have an idea and niche they'd like to offer as a "retreat in paradise" option? What's your advice to trainers or health pros (or want-to-be's) who have a business idea or something that they dream about... and are afraid to begin? (knowing our audience is midlife and beyond women) If you're interested in signing up for a teaching vacation, your account is free. You can browse vacations and when ready to book you can with a membership book a trip up to a year in advance. Take a friend, the family, come right back or stay longer. You get to decide. If you're a female entrepreneur, you know. You know juggling all the things. And the unique way a woman's brain is both made for it and it can bring you down with overwhelm! A woman on a mission to provide one solution at one resort ended up creating a business that 30 years later is still thriving. She's creating safer exercise environments for folks choosing to travel and stay active, and opportunities for fitness professionals to enjoy a working vacation. This episode will seem a little off the beaten path and more targeted to our health, fitness and wellness professionals at She Means Fitness Business podcast. We do have a special extra episode for you health professionals at She Means Fitness Business coming out tomorrow, but I want you to hear this. It's an inspiring story of how a business was born and for those of you aspiring to do something that hasn't been done before… and to go for it, it's not too late. I contacted Amelia to be on the podcast after I read a post of hers that stated, 'weed makes me a better mom'. I knew I needed to get her in to unpack this and explore something that struck a deep chord in me without knowing why. What followed was one of my all-time fave interviews as Amelia shared so deeply about her life, on the precipice of packing up her family and moving from California to Portugal. If you are interested in understanding how Psilocybin, weed and so much more might support your best life then lean in! Biography Amelia Travis is a women's coach, writer, speaker, breathwork facilitator and yoga teacher who has impacted thousands of lives through yoga education programs and women's empowerment retreats. Amelia's journey to an empowered life wasn't easy. Body dysmorphia, people-pleasing and perfectionist tendencies led to drug addiction, disordered eating, abusive relationships and a “sugar baby” lifestyle. Through yoga, surfing, and spirituality, Amelia found her way to healing and educating others while building a multi-six figure business serving women. She is a powerful truth-teller, TEDx speaker, and her writing has been published in Yoga Journal, Huffington Post, and the Inertia. She's the founder of Stoked Yogi and host of the Women Awake event and podcast. Amelia holds a BA in literature and creative writing, Yoga Alliance E-RYT 500, breathwork certifications with David Elliott, and she doesn't plan to ever stop learning. You can find her on the beach, in the ocean, the circle of women, or wandering in nature somewhere, singing songs with her two male bodied patriarchy disrupting children, and her surf-rat husband, Brent. From The Heart, a podcast about Yoga, Mindfulness, Healing and Wellbeing
In our first episode of Season 3 we talk to Anna Ashby, a senior teacher and trainer in the UK. Anna specialises in Restorative Yoga where diving deep into embodied experience with a focus on nervous system health enables a profound shift of perception and state that supports well-being and integration. Restorative practice is mostly passive and breath oriented where the body is supported on bolsters and blankets and held for longer periods of time than in an active class. The interiority and stillness embodied by this type of yoga practice shifts the nervous system out of ‘fight or flight' into a deeply felt relaxation response. In this episode we talk about her new book, Restorative Yoga: Power Presence Practice for Teachers and Trainees which elucidates and celebrates this powerful style of practice so important in maintaining balance and the state of equilibrium. It serves as an in depth guide for those interested in going deeper into Restorative Yoga. About Anna Ashby Anna has been studying and practicing yoga for over 30 years and teaching for over 20. She holds the highest level of certification with Yoga Alliance E-RYT-500. She also holds a B.A. (hons) in Modern Dance which she gained from Mills College in California in 1991. Anna's teaching style has evolved from her study of dance, in-depth training within styles of modern postural yoga focussing on alignment and precision, and immersion in a wide variety of yoga practices and teachings while living for 12 years in a yoga ashram in upstate New York in the 1990's. Anna weaves together flowing and artful movement, healthy alignment and stillness - all of which express the essence of yoga as awareness. She curates a purposeful sequence at a slow and measured pace which enables a process that can result in deep connection and joyful presence. I was introduced to Dr. Stephen Parker by a friend who suggested I reach out to him given my interests in psychology, yoga, and contemplative practices. We worked together for a brief time in therapy, but quickly moved into a spiritual friendship. I received initiation from him in 2013, and he remains one of my principle teachers of contemplation. I am grateful for his warmth and generosity, and he has helped me to understand how yoga as the science of spiritual practice can be fully integrated into my practice as a Christian. Dr. Stephen Parker was initiated in the Himalayan Yoga tradition by Swami Veda Bharati and was given the initiate name Stoma in 1971. Among the first teachers certified by the Himalayan International Teachers' Association, H.I.T.A., he began teaching hatha-yoga in 1974. During that time he also studied Sanskrit with Swami Veda and South Asian languages and literature for his B.A. at the University of Minnesota. Stoma is an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher at the 500 hour level of the Yoga Alliance (E-RYT 500) and also serves on the Board of Directors of the Council on Yoga Accreditation International (www.cyai.com). A member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists, he was grandparented as a certified yoga therapist in August 2017 and he serves on the faculties of the Meditation Center in Minneapolis and the Swami Rama Sadhaka Gram ashram in Rishikesh, India. He is also a senior faculty member of the Himalayan Yoga Tradition Teachers' Training Program. He has lectured on yoga, meditation, yoga psychology, spiritual practice, management and the science of ygoa in the U.S. and Canada as well as in Carribean countries, Holland, Italy, Austria, Hungary, Lithuania, South Africa, Korea, Hong Kong and India. In 2004 he helped originate and teach the first course on yoga in an American medical school at the University of Minnesota Academic Medical Center. In 2007 he received preliminary vows of renunciation from Swami Veda and the Shankaracharya of Karvirapitha. Stoma has been a licensed psychologist in private practice in St. Paul, MN since 1985. He also serves as Adjunct Assistant School Professor of Counseling and Psychological Services at Saint Mary's University of Minnesota and Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Graduate School of Professional Psychology at the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis, MN. He teaches on the faculty of the Introductory Workshops of the Minnesota Society of Clinical Hypnosis. In addition to authoring journal articles and book chapters, Dr. Parker edited volume two of Swami Veda's definitive scholarly work on the Yoga-sutras of Patanjali. He has also recently published a book on the process of spiritual purification in yoga entitled Clearing the Path, the yoga way to a clear and pleasant mind: Patañjali, neuroscience and emotion. Among the first teachers certified by the Himalayan International Teachers’ Association, H.I.T.A., he began teaching hatha-yoga in 1974. He is also a senior faculty member of the Himalayan Yoga Tradition Teachers’ Training Program. He also serves as Adjunct Assistant School Professor of Counseling and Psychological Services at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota and Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Graduate School of Professional Psychology at the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis, MN. He teaches on the faculty of the Introductory Workshops of the Minnesota Society of Clinical Hypnosis. In addition to authoring journal articles and book chapters, Dr. Parker edited volume two of Swami Veda’s definitive scholarly work on the Yoga-sutras of Patanjali. He has also recently published a book on the process of spiritual purification in yoga entitled Clearing the Path, the yoga way to a clear and pleasant mind: Patañjali, neuroscience and emotion. He has been a peer review editor for the Journal of Men’s Studies, the American Journal of Orthopsychiatry, the International Journal of Health and Applied Sciences, the International Journal of Yoga Therapy and Yoga-mimamsa.

Scott Lennartz is an experienced marketing professional, leader, and accomplished yogi. Whether growing a Silicon Valley business to multi-billion dollar run rates, revamping a local yoga studio to better serve the Portland community, or balancing a handstand in the early morning, Scott has successfully navigated a variety of challenges both large and small. Scott has a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and Mathematics, a Master of Business Administration, and is a Yoga Alliance E-RYT 500. He is currently the owner of Yoga Bhoga in Portland, Oregon, as well as the Vice President Marketing and Business Development at Voicebox Industries. Here are the highlights of our conversation with our guest: Scott’s passion in putting his energy to things which make a change or makes an impact. His focus on outcomes was brought about by his craving of seeing results from decisions he had made after working with different types of companies. About his interest in technology since he was a kid, how things like coding gets him stoked and his smart decision when he went from Cisco rather than pets.com up to the time he left Cisco and joined Voicebox. What Voicebox is all about, how it works in a seamless way that makes users feels good, how they use the technology to tailor-fit or make a unique experience for users before and after the event and why it is essential to get rid of all the confusion by designing your products to be very intuitive. Scott discusses why they went for being mobile responsive but have not decided to invest in a mobile app. He shares that in their opinion, downloading an app will be a negative experience for their user and would contradict to their goal of having Voicebox to be as simple and fun as possible. The hurdles that they are experiencing such as internal growth, developing talent and raising capital for expansion. How they get input and feedback from customers through pop ups where you can enter a text message in your phone and it will pop up in the big screen. It’s fun and gets people to engage in more ways. The cool project that they are working on right now: Roulette, a feature where you can go to a page and spin to get random songs for you to sing.
