This week on the show, I am incredibly excited to bring to you a Dyl & Friends first with our inaugural musical guest, Telenova. Telenova is a fresh-faced but wildly experienced new Melbourne based super-group. The band features trio Angeline Armstrong, Ed Quinn and Joshua Moriarty. Telenova's trio all have diverse artistic backgrounds, Ange is a superstar film director, Ed was one half of Slum Sociable and Josh is the lead singer of Miami Horror.I wanted to get Telenova on for two reasons, I wanted to learn more about the music industry from a band with vast experience yet starting from scratch and two, they're superbly talented and I wanted to be on the bandwagon early.I absolutely loved hosting Telenova and loved the conversation we got to share about what the music industry is really like, how creative minds collaborate together and how Josh ended up in Robert Pattinson's spa in LA.Can't thank Ange, Ed and Josh enough for joining me and I hope you enjoy this Dyl and Friends first with my new friends - Telenova.Telenova Instagram - www.instagram.com/telenovaofficialWebsite - www.telenovamusic.comPatreon - Dyl & Best FriendsPS. Early in 2020, at an APRA song writing workshop in Melbourne, the three members of Telenova met for the first time. Joshua Moriarty and Edward Quinn had been playing for years in their respective groups, Miami Horror and Slum Sociable, and singer Angeline Armstrong had been pursuing work across both video and music. But none of them had ever met each other. On that first day working together, they came up with a song called ‘Tranquilize'. It was clear, even that early on, that they had something special between them. More writing followed, and the ideas kept coming as easily as that first day. Early in 2021, their debut single ‘Bones' dropped and immediately it resonated for both triple j and Double J listeners. With their first EP now out, and a headline tour to come, Armstrong and Quinn speak here to Richard Kingsmill about their story and how everything has unfolded so quickly for them.
Joshua Moriarty is a songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist, based in Melbourne. He is a member of groups such as Miami Horror and All The Colours as well as Telenova, who's debut EP sees release on vinyl and all music streaming services from July 2nd. We talk podcasting with a Wiggle, misquotes, drawing lyrics from melody, fake band names, the origins of Telenova, releasing music regularly, the fade out, John Mayer, playing without a drummer, Daft Punk, bad decades, “Tranquillise”, writing for another's voice, making classic ideas feel fresh and Rivers Cuomo. These Guy: Live at Sonic Masala Fest, Greenslopes Bowls Club, 17 August 2019 These Guy began as the solo project of Brisbane songwriter Joe Saxby. In 2015 he recruited Josh Coxon on guitar and Eddie L'Estrange on drums and together they recorded the albums "Lunchbox" (2016) and "WHO IS IT?" (2017). In 2019 they were joined by Durwin Anderson on bass and in 2020 released both the "These Guy EP" and "These Guy House" album. The band's name may wreak havoc on every sentence it's in, but their live show is undeniable fun through and through. Recorded by Sam Kelly Mixed by Joe Murray Special thanks to live engineer Mikaela Syrup: Live at Black Bear Lodge, Fortitude Valley, 21 February 2020 Childhood friends Harry Pratt and Tom Anderson grew up in Kingaroy and started making music together as Syrup in 2018. Their first EP, "The Sponge", followed quickly in 2019. They have supported the likes of Miami Horror, Slum Sociable, and, as you'll hear in this set, Jaguar Jonze. Recorded by Alana Pepe Mixed by Hugh Middleton Special thanks to live engineer Tim Roberts Both sets in this episode were mixed by audio production students from the School of Audio Engineering Institute Brisbane as part of their course. Show production, engineering and host: Scott Mercer Originally aired via Zed Digital, 7-8pm, Sunday 30 April, 2021
Gretta Ray is a natural when it comes to songwriting. She was already kicking arse as a teenager when she won the Vanda & Young songwriting competition for her song Drive back in 2016. Since then she has released some impressive singles and an excellent EP and her debut album ‘Begin To Look Around’ will be out in August of this year, nice one Gretta! We discuss how we met 10 years ago when Gretta was a kid singing in the Young Voices Of Melbourne children’s choir (who featured on a Miami Horror song), we talk about John Mayer not wanting to play Your Body Is A Wonderland (just play it John ya dick!), our resistance to Tik Tok, how difficult it is to write a great pop song and a bunch more. Electric Sol started out as a solo studio project by lead singer/songwriter Ed Sweet, who was writing a story about a band trying to make it big playing Native American casinos. He dropped the story but started making the music, and the live band formed after Electric Sol’s eponymous first release in 2016. During the pandemic of 2020, Ed spent time re-tooling his sound and worked with two new producers (Dapo Torimiro and Secret Attraction) on two new EPs. Both Accept Me (September 2020) and City Tonight (Coming in April 2021) put Electric Sol in the same musical space as bands like Capital Cities, Metronomy, and Miami Horror. Thank you for listening! My guest today is Stan Bicknell. Stan is a NZ born drummer who for the past 13 years has based himself out of Melbourne Australia. In this time he has toured and recorded with many artists locally and internationally including 48May, Miami Horror, Tonight Alive, Ecca Vandal, and Kimbra. During his time with Kimbra, Stan played on her acclaimed debut album ‘Vows'. His Motown grooves can be heard on the track ‘Cameo Lover' which won both an Aria and APRA award, as well as playing on her now iconic ‘Sing Sing' sessions on YouTube, clocking up millions of views. Stan has a strong online presence, which in 2018 was noticed by Jared Falk, the owner and creator of Canadian based drum education platform ‘Drumeo'. Jared invited Stan on to Drumeo where he spent two days performing and recording songs and courses based on his ability behind the kit, and his unique single kick technique that has since taken the drumming community by storm. Stan is a frequent performer at drum festivals as well as where he likes to share his unique approach to the drums, and his strong mindset that goes with it. Now based back in Papamoa NZ, Stan is excited to be back home. Already he's been called in as backup for NZ drum and bass juggernauts, Shapeshifter, as well as kicking off a couple of new projects himself. Stan's a coffee nut, an incredibly gifted musician and just a bloody nice guy. So here he is, Ladies and gentleman. Its Mr Stan Bicknell. This conversation was recorded 10/02/2021. Intro song: "Hey Zeus" by Stan Bicknell and Josh De La Victoria. Well, looks like we will be under the influence of C19 much longer than we thought. So here is the sound of our way of coping with that stressful, sometimes depressing situation: Trying to make the best of it and serving you with an hour of laidback, smooth good vibrations West Coast style, some much needed Bottled Sunshine. This time, Dj Supermarkt collected his favourite modern Electronic Sunset Yacht-Disco tracks of the summer so far, by some of our absolute favourite producers: Roosevelt, Poolside, Miami Horror, Kraak & Smaak and our dear friend Elton John…a.m.m.! Most important track for us is the title track by Chromeo. Let’s Rock N Roll Archaeology some EDM Diggers! Christian sits down with Goldroom, aka Josh Legg. They go deep into his SoCal chill EDM beats and how a kid from Boston created the new laid back sounds of L.A. Josh Legg, known professionally as Goldroom, is an American electronic musician. egg grew up in Wellesley, Massachusetts and studied psychology at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. He and classmate Kyle Peterson formed the synthpop band NightWaves and co-founded the record label Binary Entertainment, although the former went on hiatus in 2011. From its establishment in 2007, Binary has worked with artists including Anoraak, Bag Raiders, College, Futurecop!, Miami Horror, and The Twelves. Legg began producing music under the name Goldroom in 2011, with remixes of tracks including Niki and the Dove's "Mother Protect". He took his stage name from the name of a bar in Los Angeles' Echo Park area. He released his debut EP, Angeles, the same year, followed by the EP Embrace in 2013. Although Goldroom had performed vocals on all Angeles tracks (he also sang harmonies and backing vocals in NightWaves), for Embrace he enlisted vocalists including Chela, Ariela Jacobs, Mereki, and Say Lou Lou.In 2014, Goldroom released the single "Till Sunrise", the music video for which was directed by actress Dianna Agron. In 2015, he issued the EP It's Like You Never Went Away via Downtown Records. Accompanying the EP, music videos for each of the tracks were premiered via the video messaging application Snapchat. Ben Plant has world-class eyes and ears. Whether it’s the strong visual aesthetic he has created for Miami Horror or the attention to detail in every song he produces, there is always a vision and an intention behind everything he is involved with. He is very aware of current trends and loves exploring and creating something new. We sat down to discuss his latest project Mild Minds, the escapism of music, outrage culture, Daft Punk and lots more. All music on the podcast by Joshua Moriarty & All The Colours. Welcome to Episode 22! This is a conversation I had with Stan Bicknell. Stan's got a pretty rich pedigree as a player, and has previously played with Kimbra, Miami Horror, Ekka Vandal and The New Caledonia as well as setting up and running a drum shed community called Drummers Summit Melbourne with Stevie Cat Jr. It's been really interesting to see Stan grow over the last few years since he made the decision to stop touring, and to see his instagram profile explode from his foot technique videos. What I really loved was that Stan was under no illusions of grandeur, and was a big advocate for simply doing the work on the instrument. He also didn't seem to play by any of the social media “rules” that seem to have been imposed. Posting schedules, cheesy questions to promote engagement, paying for post promotion or anything like that. In fact right at the height of his “fame" he proceeded to delete all his old material and limit his profile to a small number of posts. All things that anyone would be advised not to do in that situation. Not to mention all of the famous posts were filmed with an iPhone on a milk crate resting against a water bottle at the Rumble Coffee warehouse... Stan's the first guest that I've had on that has already been on a bunch of podcasts, so I was really conscious of not wanting to go over the same things that he's already talked about. So if you're wanting info about how he started playing drums, foot technique, his drumeo appearance and his decision to stop touring there's a bunch of other podcasts that have covered this, and I'd recommend in particular his appearances on the Drum Gab (now Drumeo Gab) and the NZ drummer podcast. What I really wanted to dig into is how Stan thinks about life. He's a fascinating guy that has a real thread of deliberateness running through everything that he does, and has worked his ass off to be able to have a life that is full of things that he has chosen to do, not things that have been dictated by others. We talk about a bunch of stuff as per usual. Mental Health, Routines, Creative fulfilment, Comparison, the idea of just showing up, disconnecting money and creativity, making difficult decisions and handling burnout. So just for some context I'd just come off a pretty heavy 2 year gig when we recorded this interview, and while my playing was probably in the best shape it had ever been, my desire to actually play the drums was the lowest that it had ever been. It's something that almost everyone has or will deal with at some time, but yet it's not something that seems to be discussed in great detail. So we dig into that as well and reassessing the role that drums play in life as well. So here it is. Please enjoy my conversation with Stan Bicknell. Dan Whitford is the founding member of Australian dance act Cut Copy. Cut Copy were part of the first wave of Australian dance acts that put the Australian indie-dance scene on the map and paved the way for bands like Miami Horror, we owe them a lot! Cut Copy are five records deep now and their latest offering ‘Haiku From Zero’ is my favourite to date, it’s sophisticated and mature in all the right ways with lyrical depth and excellent production. Dan and I sat down to discuss being Superman on tour and Clark Kent at home, having fantastical song and album titles, moving back to Melbourne, having an artistic mind enriched by design and lots more. Brazilian electronic-indie three-piece Lumen Craft released their latest single, "Stranger", via Natasha Records on the 18th January 2019. Featured in a slew of top Spotify playlists and as well as in acclaimed publications such as Folha de São Paulo, Brazil's widest reaching newspaper, MTV's Monkeybuzz, the blog of multi-billion dollar company Converse and Brazil's most in-demand music guide, Popload Sessions; Lumen Craft continue to go from strength to strength. The band have an infectious live presence and have performed for the prestigious Sofar Sound Latin America in 2016, at one of the biggest indie festivals in Brazil, MECA Inhotim Festival, in 2017, INNER multi.art events, and have been hand-picked to play at Brazil's Rock The Mountain 2018 next month, where they will be sharing a stage with Brazilian stars Planet Hemp and BaianaSystem. In the past the trio have performed alongside a host of acclaimed artists, including Brazilian music legend Jorge Ben Jor, London alt-pop duo Oh Wonder and Aussie electropop outfit Miami Horror. Currently based in the bustling metropolis of Sao Paulo, Lumen Craft is made up of producer Ceah Pagotto, guitarist Noah Guper and singer John Evans. While all three members of the group have always been surrounded by music in their homes, it was in London that they discovered their mutual passion for experimenting with sound and writing the infectious electronic-infused music that they are known for today. Lumen Craft are the offspring of a city as warm as their music and prismatic as their performances, and the cosmopolitan energy that they exude can be traced back to the city of lights and sounds that nurtured them. Although Lumen Craft draw from an eclectic mix of sources when it comes to inspiration, such as Little Dragon, SBTRKT, James Blake, alt-J, Four Tet, Flying Lotus and many more, what their influences hold in common is a pop optimism, an experimental edge and a glittering quirkiness. When it comes to their own sound, Lumen Craft could be compared to soulful indie heroes like Bob Moses, Metronomy and Electric Guest. "Stranger" draws the listener in with a funky bassline and sexy guitar solos, preparing us for vocalist John Evans' bluesy crooning. Retro-inspired synth sounds add an undoubtable quirkiness to the track's sensual groove, while crisp beats and bass cuts make sure "Stranger" could resonate with any modern audience. The piece is a dance-floor triumph, oozing all the right parts of the 70's and 80's, while effortlessly staying slick and fresh. On their brand new single, "Stranger", Lumen Craft explain, "It's an invitation to the unknown, a guide to unexplored lands. It's an affirmation of identity, surrendering the soul to the course of destiny. Let the mind flow and enjoy the ride."

Ru-Mix: Somebody to Love Me (Made in Brazil) Download: http://www.mediafire.com/?uk653peh1ykdwxz Part 3 in my Made in Brazil series is a continuation of Ru-Mixes: Pretender & Love Get Out of My Way. I've decided to create 2 shorter mixes this time to complement two different moods. Day This mix is very chill, more of a morning (after?) vibe if you know what I mean. You still get that disco/ house groove but it's much more mellow. Prefect for poolside lounging. Miami Horror and Casey Spooner will have you longing for summer and Sam Sparro and Hercules & Love Affair will get those dancing feet primed for part II of this mix. 01. Love Like A Sunset, Part III - Phoenix 02. This Space - Röyksopp 03. I Look To You (Feat. Kimbra) - Miami Horror 04. Spanish Teenager (Feat. Jake Shears) - Casey Spooner 05. It's hard to believe that it's been a year since my last Disco podcast: 'Ghetto Disco'. 2010 was a massive year for Disco revivals & Nu-Disco so this podcast showcases what I think are the cream-of-the-recent-crop of up-beat Disco. This mix is also inspired by my NYE '11 performance at 'CELEBRATION' on the roof-top terrace of the MCA in Sydney. Featuring smooth renditions and remixes by the following mega-geniuses: Armand Van Helden & Uffie, Hatiras, Axwell, A-Trak & Robyn, Dr Kucho & Ojelay, Miami Horror, Criminal Vibes, Stars on 45 & Addy Van Der Zwan, David Jones & Discobump, DJ Slider & Anton Liss, Manuel De La Mare, Olav Basoski & My Digital Enemy, Chus Soler & J.Louis, Martini/Bini/Memi & Cattaneo/Gardini and Tristan Garner & Daft Punk/Scott Grooves. Also including my edit of 'Sax Arena' by Japanese-Parisien Disco-Progressive stars Daishi Dance & Mitomi Tokoto, aplomb with Riva Starr's highly contagious vocal: 'Enjoy Music' !! Enjoy !! Ads

CLUB KERRY NYC: Vocal Dance & Electronic - DJ Kerry John Poynter
"You better take me any which way you get" (Track #3). "You make me feel like I'm 17. Some kind of drama queen. Whenever we touch" (Track #1). Nu wave disco house 80's fantastic hella fun. I just don't know how else to describe this set. This one is about to uplift your spirits. You are about to enjoy yourself. "C'mon! C'mon! Show me the night!" (Track #5). "It's a party. It's just getting started. Let's go together" (track #6). Then the electro beats just don't stop. "I don't wanna wait for you. I don't wanna be YOUR man!" (track #7). If you made it this far, and I know you have, then Miami Horror and Morgan Page/Adam Lambert are about to KILL you. "There's a thin line between a wild time and a flat line..." (track #11). "We can fly far away. Let's escape..." (track #13) This is escapism electro pop to the up most degree. "Into the clouds." Have you lost this feeling? (track #14). OH, ENJOY! Track List (58:31)" Close to You (Fear of Tigers Remix) - The Venus Stare: Is this my favorite tune on this set? Perhaps. There are SO many faves on this set! Please Don't Leave - Fear of Tigers: Long live Fear of Tigers!!!!!!!!!!!! More please! Hell. I DEMAND IT. Any Which Way (7th Heaven Club Mix) -Scissor Sisters: Jake and crew find their way onto my DJ podcast with a third tune from their new album. I *LOVE* you Jake Shears. Can I be your shipment? LOL! I guess it's no mistake that 80's pop group turned DJ/Remixers, 7th Heaven, created this tasty remix. Dancing On My Own (Buzz Junkies Club Mix) - Robyn: She is my Madonna right now. I despise anything Lady Caca, she needs to GO AWAY. Robyn has filled that La M void for me. I can only take one pseudo diva vocalist in my life. Robyn, you have been it. This is the third remix of this tune that has found a home on my podcast. "I keep dancing on my own..." classic. Show Me The Night (Grum Remix) - Jump Jump Dance Dance: This tune was an instant blog fave not long ago. Too bad this never made it onto any 'radio' stations in my country. This is why I listen to internet radio. FM pop stations are crap in the U.S.A! Down with Clear Channel that owns the vast majority of stations that dictate what is "popular" in my country. It's time to start tracking what internet stations are playing. Hello Billboard magazine. FM radio is DEAD! Let's Go Together (Grum Remix) - Gamble & Burke I Don't Wanna (feat. Danny Andersen) - Dato: I love these guys. I look forward to more new electro beats from them. Fab. This is a Soundcloud discovery. THANKS! Proof (Lifelike Remix) - Baxter: Lifelike is God in my opinion. The originator of the French disco house movement a number of years ago. Please don't stop. Vox Populi (Lifelike Treatment) - Jupiter: Lifelike again. Yay. I Look To You - Miami Horror: Make sure to watch this band. My friend Powell at Bpmmm introduced me. Thanks Hun. (Miss you) If I Had You (Morgan Page Extended Mix) - Adam Lambert: What would one of my mixes be without some Morgan Page? Only reason miss Lambert made it on here. Not bad! Call Me (Original Short Version) - Shark and Sylvain: This tune first appears on one of my favorite DJ sets last year called "Sunrise After Dark". It fits quite well in this mix. Why isn't this tune huge? Deserves to be. Somebody Somewhere (Lifelike Remix) - Cazals: Did I mention I love Lifelike? I'm sure i have somewhere before. Into the Clouds (Fear of Tigers Remix) - The Sound of Arrows: It doesn't get any more uplifting and "that's so gay" than this!!! Thank you Sound of Arrows. I genuinely mean that. Really, thanks. Los Feeling (Fear of Tigers Mix) - Visitor: Fear of Tigers!! Visitor closes out this set after starting my last DJ set, Electronic Love, two weeks ago. I haven't lost their feeling.
