Twentieth Century Psychic and Medical ClairvoyantEdgar Cayce (pronounced Kay-Cee, 1877-1945) has been called the “sleeping prophet,” the “father of holistic medicine,” and the most documented psychic of the 20th century. For more than 40 years of his adult life, Cayce gave psychic “readings” to thousands of seekers while in an unconscious state, diagnosing illnesses and revealing lives lived in the past and prophecies yet to come. But who, exactly, was Edgar Cayce?Cayce was born on a farm in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, in 1877, and his psychic abilities began to appear as early as his childhood. He was able to see and talk to his late grandfather's spirit, and often played with “imaginary friends” whom he said were spirits on the other side. He also displayed an uncanny ability to memorize the pages of a book simply by sleeping on it. These gifts labeled the young Cayce as strange, but all Cayce really wanted was to help others, especially children.Later in life, Cayce would find that he had the ability to put himself into a sleep-like state by lying down on a couch, closing his eyes, and folding his hands over his stomach. In this state of relaxation and meditation, he was able to place his mind in contact with all time and space — the universal consciousness, also known as the super-conscious mind. From there, he could respond to questions as broad as, “What are the secrets of the universe?” and “What is my purpose in life?” to as specific as, “What can I do to help my arthritis?” and “How were the pyramids of Egypt built? His responses to these questions came to be called “readings,” and their insights offer practical help and advice to individuals even today. Many people are surprised to learn that Edgar Cayce was a devoted churchgoer and Sunday school teacher. At a young age, Cayce vowed to read the Bible for every year of his life, and at the time of his death in 1945, he had accomplished this task. Perhaps the readings said it best, when asked how to become psychic, Cayce's advice was to become more spiritual.Jim Vieira is an author, explorer, historical detective and host of the History Channel shows "Search for the Lost Giants" (2014), "Roanoke: Search for the Lost Colony" (2015), and "Return to Roanoke: Search the Seven" (2016). Why has mainstream history ignored King Arthur, Merlin, and Joseph of Arimathea ? Why do the Elites believe in these stories and incorporate them into their mystery religions and orders? The Polychronicon is a ‘symphony of history' over 40 years in the making, stretching from the end of the Greeks to the rise of the Tudors, focusing especially on topics which impact directly on the mythology of Merlin, Joseph of Arimathea, & Arthur, reconstructing the entire supposedly lost history of the Dark Ages from actual source materials written down at the time. This ‘symphony' rises to a grand finale listing the majority of actual surviving written material clearly showing that Ancient Britain is nowhere as ‘dark' as some would have you believe. This is real history & archaeology, not just the invention of creative minds, & it reveals incidents & characters as they really were, listed in chronological order, leaving the impression that Britain has always been a very different place to the one painted by popular history. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/ryan-burns4/support

In this episode, physical anthropologist and archaeologist Chris Stringer joins us to explore fossil records and what they tell us about the birth of our species and its staying power on Earth. Chris is known as one of the leading proponents of the “Recent African Origins” hypothesis, which is currently the most widely accepted model for the origin of our species. This hypothesis is that the modern form of Homo sapiens and human behavior had evolved in Africa by at least 150,000 years ago. Around 60,000 years ago, modern humans left Africa, replacing archaic hominins outside of the continent with restricted amounts of interbreeding. We dive deep into the whole story from 7MM years ago to the Neolithic revolution and to us as lone survivors. He talks about the last 500 thousand years when lots of homo species were existing at the same time and the behavioral and cognitive traits that distinguished current Homo sapiens from other anatomically modern humans. Additionally we talk about fossils, what evidence they are providing in regards to human evolution and where they are found. Stringer looks ahead on ideas from a historical fossil perspective and shares the importance of fossil protein that can take us beyond ancient DNA and provide us with more information about how Homo sapiens came to be. Stories of giants being involved in the construction of megalithic sites, earthworks and other ancient monuments have been alive in the consciousness of the British for millennia. Legends and creation stories hark back to an earlier age of elemental beings, high magic and giant kings ruling the land. Religious documents, medieval chronicles, oral traditions and origin stories all recount converging tales of giants being an integral part of the founding of the British Isles. Giant effigies are still paraded around many cities and towns, keeping this ancient memory alive. Mystics, sages and esoteric sources all speak of giants as a literal reality, often originating in a lost sunken realm off the coast of Ireland. Even Stonehenge's creation is attributed to remarkably tall and powerful builders. These were not only giant in stature, but also giants in intelligence, skill and wisdom. Collating hundreds of historical accounts of massive bones and skeletons being found in the vicinity of sites such as Stonehenge, adds some credence to the idea that age-old myths encoded detailed histories and insights from many thousands of years ago. These were often linked with the secret arts, forgotten sciences and magic from a fabled “Golden Age." The once-lost epic annals of Ireland, secret Scottish archives, old manuscripts of Wales and Druidic traditions of England have revealed a lost timeline, a missing chapter in human history that provides evidence of giant human beings inhabiting, ruling and building the megalithic master works of Albion. The reality of giants existing in prehistoric times is put under the microscope in this book, with the investigation of obscure newspaper accounts, antiquarian diaries, archaeological reports, local history records, newly-translated ancient texts, academic papers, and written evidence from hundreds of sources going back over a 2000 year period. It seems that the giants were also ‘geomancers', having a mastery of surveying, astronomy and landscape knowledge to an extremely high degree. Many were remembered as high-kings and rulers of the country, often inhabiting mountain-tops or hillforts. The origins of all four countries of the British Isles are intimately connected to ruling giants. We hope this book can bring this obscure but fascinating story to life and highlight what a truly immense mystery this is.http://www.megalithomania.co.uk/

Today we head back two thousand years to the rich, rowdy, ruthless Roman world of the Emperor Domitian. Our guide is the much-loved novelist Lindsey Davis. *** For years Lindsey Davis has been captivating readers with her series of detective novels set in the first century AD. Her great protagonists, Falco and Flavia Albia, are names that are probably already familiar to you and enough in themselves to conjure memories of thrilling, twisting tales in Ancient Britain or in the Eternal City itself. This spring Davis has published the latest book in her Flavia Albia series, A Comedy of Terrors, which is set in Rome during the reign of the Emperor Domitian, and more specifically during the week running up to the Festival of Saturnalia. For us this means the perfect guide and the perfect setting for a trip into the past. We’ll be giving a hardback copy of A Comedy of Terrors away to one of our newsletter subscribers this week – so to be in with a chance of winning it, make sure you visit our site and sign up. He is a Research Leader in Human Origins at the Natural History Museum. His early research was on the relationship of Neanderthals and early modern humans in Europe, but through his work on the Recent African Origin model for modern human origins, he now collaborates with archaeologists, dating specialists, and geneticists in attempting to reconstruct the evolution of modern humans globally. Now he's co-director of the follow-up Pathways to Ancient Britain project, as part of their funding from the Calleva Foundation, which has also contributed to the foundation of their new Centre for Human Evolution Research. As well as many scientific papers, he's also written a number of books, most recently, Britain: one million years of the human story (2014, with Rob Dinnis) and Our Human Story (2018, with Louise Humphrey). In this episode, we go through some topics about our evolutionary history. We discuss what is the best account of our origins as H. sapiens; how hard it is to distinguish between different hominin species; Out of Africa migrations, particularly by H. erectus, and how we got from H. erectus to H. sapiens and Neanderthals. We also talk about the limitations of modern dating techniques, and what we can learn from them and from genetic analysis. We address the questions of how old are modern humans, and what would have been our most important selective pressures. We then get into the issue with the term “race”, and distinguishing it from “population”. Finally, we talk a bit about how we are still evolving, and some of the major known unknowns of human evolution. -- Follow Dr. Stringer's work: Natural History Museum page: http://bit.ly/2T7IpaI ResearchGate Profile: http://bit.ly/2Yj49WI Amazon page: https://amzn.to/2p35MHb -- A HUGE THANK YOU TO MY PATRONS/SUPPORTERS: KARIN LIETZCKE, ANN BLANCHETTE, SCIMED, PER HELGE HAAKSTD LARSEN, LAU GUERREIRO, RUI BELEZA, ANTÓNIO CUNHA, CHANTEL GELINAS, JERRY MULLER, FRANCIS FORDE, HANS FREDRIK SUNDE, YEVHEN BODRENKO, SERGIU CODREANU, ADAM BJERRE, AIRES ALMEIDA, BERNARDO SEIXAS, HERBERT GINTIS, RUTGER VOS, RICARDO VLADIMIRO, BO WINEGARD, VEGA GIDEY, CRAIG HEALY, OLAF ALEX, PHILIP KURIAN, JONATHAN VISSER, DAVID DIAS, ANJAN KATTA, JAKOB KLINKBY, ADAM KESSEL, MATTHEW WHITINGBIRD, ARNAUD WOLFF, TIM HOLLOSY, AND HENRIK AHLENIUS! Professor Chris Stringer, Research Leader in Human Origins at the Natural History Museum, London, gave the 2015 Haldane Lecture at Wolfson College, Oxford. He discusses how we are mostly, but not entirely, 'Out of Africa'. Human Evolution can be divided into two main phases. A pre-human phase in Africa prior to 2 million years ago, where walking upright had evolved but some other characteristics were still ape-like. And a human phase, with an increase in both brain size and behavioural complexity, and an expansion from Africa. Evidence points strongly to Africa as the major centre for the genetic, physical and behavioural origins of both ancient and modern humans, but new discoveries are prompting a rethink of some aspects of our evolutionary origins, including the likelihood of interbreeding between archaic humans (for example the Neanderthals) and modern humans. We are mostly, but not entirely, 'Out of Africa'. Chris Stringer first worked at the Natural HistoryMuseum in 1969-1970, but joined the permanent staff in 1973, where he is now a Research Leader in Human Origins. His early research was on the relationship of Neanderthals and early modern humans in Europe, but through his work on the Recent African Origin model for modern human origins, he now collaborates with archaeologists, dating specialists, and geneticists in attempting to reconstruct the evolution of modern humans globally. He's excavated at sites in Britain and abroad, and directed the Ancient Human Occupation of Britain project from 2001 until it finished in 2013. Now co-director of the follow-up Pathways to Ancient Britain project. Those projects led to the successful Britain: One Million Years of the Human Story exhibition in 2014. As well as many scientific papers, He's also written a number of books, most recently The Origin of Our Species (2012, published in the USA as Lone Survivors: how we came to be the only humans on Earth), and Britain: one million years of the human story (2014, with Rob Dinnis).

Here she has played 'To Drive the Cold Winter Away' for us and we read her favourite verse for her in the show and print it below. When not practicing, performing, or composing, Gillogly’s off hours are spent writing fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and experimenting in painting, drawing and calligraphy. She is a published writer in multiple formats, and has been a contributing critic to The Green Man Review, an online arts and culture magazine, and now writes on Celtic Arts and Culture for Examiner.com. Her favourite culinary pursuit is brewing her infamous triple-espresso coffee, known to those who've dared taste it as "Viola Varnish". You can find out more about Sam on her website or on our Contributor Page. You can also read her wonderful Celtic articles on her Examiner.com site.   The Isle of Many Gods by David Rankine & Sorita D'Este Isles of the Many Gods : An A-Z of the Pagan Gods & Goddesses worshipped in Ancient Britain during the first millenium through to the Middle Ages: A ... Britain During the First Millennium CE. The Isles of the Many Gods brings together, for the first time, information on the worship of these deities in Britain, in an easy to use A-Z. It includes both the native & immigrant gods & goddesses, from well known gods like Apollo, Brigit, Freya, Herne, Isis, Mars & Woden to lesser known ones like Abandinus, Arianrhod, Genii Cucullati, Midir, Vitiris & the Wheel God. You can find out more about the book or buy it from Avalonia Books or Amazon. Find out more about Avalonia on their website or on our Contributor Page.   Believe by Jenna Greene Jenna Greene is a Celtic Pagan singer-songwriter and harpist. Her songs are inspired by hope and healing, following bliss, nature mythology, the law of attraction and the little miracles in everyday life. Believe: "I wrote this song for my daughter and all children-at-heart. It is about a magical friendship between a fairy and a human child. The fairy teaches the child to always believe in herself and in her dreams. This song has become my personal anthem. I end every concert with Believe to remind myself and my audience that believing is the magic that creates reality." Jenna can be found on Myspace, but her own website provides lots of useful information. You can find out more details about Jenna on her Contributor Page on our website.   The Wife or the Wuddy by John Mackay Wilson This story is the second part of a tale, "The Wife or the Wuddy' by Mr Wilson who was famed for collecting hundreds of tales from the Scottish Borders. I think they went up to about volume 23! This story is a little lengthy, and is the main reason that we split this Holiday Special into two parts. The first part of the story can be heard in Episode SP17a. If you find the accents or the vocabulary somewhat difficult to follow, then please follow along with the text which you can find at Project Gutenberg listed below.  You can read the original of this book on Project Gutenberg.   Dagda by Andrew Hinkinson-Hodnett I wrote the first version of my poem Dagda back in October 2004, and the verses were shortly afterwards used in casting a sacred circle to invoke the male aspect of the Divine. Dagda is an Old God, an important figure in Irish mythology and a High King of the Tuatha Dé Danann. He is important to many Pagan paths including Druidry. Dagda is sometimes connected in people’s minds to the Green Man whose face adorns old churches, and while there appears to be no evidence I can find to confirm that link as real it is nevertheless one that I myself intuitively make. The version of the poem I present to you today was extensively revised just as a gloriously hot pink and baby blue dawn broke on this very morning in 2009. I only realised when the reworking was finished that it is exactly five years and two months after the original was committed to paper. I hope you enjoy reading, and feel free to make use of the poem in your own ritual invocations (but as ever please acknowledge the poet’s copyright, and do not republish anywhere else). The image above is the Dagda on the Gundestrup Cauldron, courtesy of Wiki. You can read more from Andy on his fascinating blog and poetry site, The Spicy Cauldon.  [Source and the full text of the poem]     The Greenwood Grove by Damh the Bard This song, The Greenwood Grove, comes from Damh's second album - The Hills they are Hollow which is available on his website, at CD Baby or in iTunes. For more details about Damh - his music and his work, have a look at his website, paganmusic.co.uk or our Contributor Page.   Promo - Digital Magic by Philippa Ballantine Digital Magic is the sequel to Chasing the Bard- the award winning podcast novel–written by New Zealand author Philippa Ballantine. "Penherem is a quaint, sleepy English village where people go to escape the 21st Century. Hiding from the world of laptop computers, the Internet, and wireless communication, is Ella. A writer, now barren of ideas and drive, she resigns herself to a quiet life of solitude. Everything changes with the arrival of a shapeshifting thief. Suddenly, everyone begins to change–from the local librarian to the lady of the manor–revealing their true natures and dangerous secrets. Something in this sleepy English village is awakening… something that might be better left alone." You can follow the Digital Magic blog or subscribe to the podcast. You can also find the podcast in iTunes. The story is also available in print form.   Nines by The Pentacle Drummers "The Pentacle Drummers' livery has always been green and red. Our tatter coats and face paint help lend a theatrical touch to events. Sometimes it seems that we live our 'Life in Tatters'. At the Herstmonceux and Michelham Priory Medieval Festivals we enter into the spirit of the events by adopting full medieval attire. At bonfires we adopt a much darker look. You will recognise us by our more sombre black gothic costumes and makeup, some wicked hats and a plethora of glowsticks."
