He was eventually promoted to the rank of master chief gunnery officer and transferred to the Death Star. Tenn was ecstatic about this at first; he was a staunch supporter of the Empire who reveled in the opportunity to wield such a powerful weapon. He did not expect it to actually be used against inhabited planets. He assumed that the Empire only built it as a fear tactic, which was partially true, but Grand Moff Tarkin believed that the greatest way to inspire fear was to make an example of Alderaan. As soon as Tenn fired the superlaser, he was wracked with guilt and suffered a mental breakdown. With the pull of a lever, he had wiped out two billion lives.

You may know Asher Angel for his roles in the Shazam! movies and the Disney Channel comedy Andi Mack. But he's also a talented musician. The 21-year-old plays guitar and piano, and his smooth pop R&B vocals recall vintage Justin Timberlake and Usher. Although he released several singles in the wake of Andi Mack, he hasn't spent much time on music since 2020. That's changing. His latest single, "Flip The Switch" came out last week, and he's lining up more releases for later this year. Listen to Angel talk to Jordan Edwards and Demi Ramos about his success as an actor, favorite celebrity encounters, and his plan for expanding his music career.

So many times we hear those mythical stories of a filmmaker who makes a short film and uploads it to YouTube in hopes of a big-time film producer sees it and comes down from Mount Hollywood and offers him or her a deal to turn that short into a studio feature. Today's guest had that happen to him and then some. On the show is writer/director David F. Sandberg.David's story is the "lottery ticket" moment I speak about so often on the show. His journey in Hollywood is remarkable, inspiring, and scary all at the same time. He created a short film called Lights Out. That short was seen by famed filmmaker and producer James Wan (Furious 7, Aquaman, The Conjuring) who offered to produce a feature film version at New Line Cinema. The feature version of the film was made for $5 million and grossed $150 million at the box office. Here's what the film is about. When Rebecca left home, she thought she left her childhood fears behind. Growing up, she was never really sure of what was and wasn't real when the lights went out…and now her little brother, Martin, is experiencing the same unexplained and terrifying events that had once tested her sanity and threatened her safety. A frightening entity with a mysterious attachment to their mother, Sophie, has reemerged. But this time, as Rebecca gets closer to unlocking the truth, there is no denying that all their lives are in danger…once the lights go out.The film stars Teresa Palmer (“Triple 9”) as Rebecca; Gabriel Bateman (“Annabelle”) as Martin; Billy Burke (the “Twilight” franchise) as Martin's father, Paul; Alexander DiPersia (“Forever”) as Rebecca's boyfriend, Bret; and Maria Bello (“Prisoners”) as Sophie. After the success of Lights Out he tackled the horror prequel Annabelle Creation. That film went on to make over $300 million at the box office with a $15 million budget.Several years after the tragic death of their little girl, a dollmaker and his wife welcome a nun and several girls from a shuttered orphanage into their home, soon becoming the target of the dollmaker's possessed creation, Annabelle. The studio Gods were pleased with David because he was offered New Line Cinema's Shazam!, the origin story that stars Zachary Levi (TV's “Chuck”) as the titular DC Super Hero, along with Asher Angel (TV's “Andi Mack”) as Billy Batson, and Mark Strong (the “Kingsman” movies) in the role of Super-Villain Dr. Thaddeus Sivana. Shazam! was a box office smash.David and I discuss his days making short films, which he still makes on the side, working in the studio system, his filmmaking philosophy, how he could afford a place to stay in Los Angeles while he was in pre-production on Lights Out and what it takes to make it as a filmmaker in today's world.Enjoy my conversation with David F. Sandberg.

Marisa and Sam watch the pilot episode of the show that brought Marisa back into Disney Channel: Terri Minsky's Andi Mack, and compare the two Minsky properties. Basically, this means Marisa waxes poetic about Andi Mack for an hour while Sam just questions whether this is even plausible and ends up extending an open invite to Jack Nicholson to join the podcast.

So many times we hear those mythical stories of a filmmaker who makes a short film and uploads it to Youtube in hopes of a big time film producer sees to and comes down from Mount Hollywood and offers him or her a deal to turn that short into a studio feature. Today's guest had that happen to him and then some. On the show is writer/director David F. Sandberg.David's story is the "lottery ticket" moment I speak about so often on the show. His journey in Hollywood is remarkable, inspiring and scary all at the same time. He created a short film called Lights Out. We’re looking for what YOU think is the character.” “We love to see something that we’ve never thought of before for a character.” “Your eyes need to be the brightest thing on the page in a headshot.” “When you come in, we’re looking for you to bring your authentic self to that situation.” "If you’re constantly working—whether that’s in classes, or improv, or putting together a project with a friend—then the wheels are oiled, and you’re ready.” “Consider an audition your ‘coverage.’ Your job is to connect to the person you’re talking to, and make it about them.” “If you’re not evoking emotion from the person in your scene, how are you going to evoke emotion from the audience watching?”You have about 30 seconds before I decide if I want to keep watching you or not.” “When we get a bad report card, we don’t ask that actor back.” “A lot of people are wiling to mentor you. So reach out.” “If you’re having fun, then we’re having fun watching you. Even if it’s a sad scene.” “If you’re enjoying the work, it’s going to show, and it’s going to be contagious.” Follow Amber Horn and Danielle Aufiero HERE: Instagram: Amber Horn: @amberhorn Danielle Aufiero: @anamelikedanicalifornia

In the wise words of King Mufasa, you must REMEMBER WHO YOU ARE. And to supplement that very meta, very poetic guidance from an animated lion with a perfectly resonant voice, it's OK to be figuring out who & what that even means every single day. In this week's episode, Minji sits down with comedian/actor/director Lilan Bowden to talk about her twists & turns of becoming said comedian then actor and now director. This isn't a discussion talking shop about industry maneuvers (though that would be a great spin-off episode for later).. this is about being a geeky middle schooler dying for a training bra to fit in with her peers and being a grown a** woman who can fully own that she doesn't care to be "one of the guys" or subjecting herself to the torment of watching sports. Yeah, we said it. And if you're into it, good on you. :) Lilan shares her career wins expanding from guest appearance on Parks & Rec (whilst Minji screams) to becoming a series lead on Disney Channel's Andi Mack and recently taking the helm as director of a successful short film Becoming Eddie. They talk about the humility of being a perpetual student, stepping into power as a leader and learning to trust a team. Life is crazy, but it can be beautiful. Sometimes we just need reminders that we're all constantly at the drawing board, being challenged, getting thrown curve balls (like a horrible performance.. or a relationship ending...or a global pandemic), and just learning to make the best of it all.
