A čím ovlivnil českou hudební scénu?

Snarky Puppy: Transmissions From Deep Ellum

In episode two of Transmissions From Deep Ellum, the band members give us an unprecedented look inside the creation and refinement of the songs that came to make up their new album, the Grammy®-nominated Empire Central. Though the collective has recorded in front of live audiences before, shaking off two years of pandemic lockdown added a new level of intensity to the process. Band members discuss what it felt like to get back into rehearsals and realign as a group in order to execute on the musical direction inspired by bandleader Michael League.Snarky Puppy seamlessly fuses a deep knowledge and respect for musical tradition with sonic and conceptual innovation in a way that is able to reach the most critical- or most carefree- audience. After a decade of relentless touring and recording in all but complete obscurity, the Texas-bred/New York-based quasi-collective suddenly found itself held up by the press and public as one of the major figures in the jazz world. But as the category names for all four of the band's Grammy® awards would indicate (Best R&B Performance in 2014, Best Contemporary Instrumental Album in 2016, 2017, and 2021), Snarky Puppy isn't exactly a jazz band. It's not a fusion band, and it's definitely not a jam band. It's probably best to take Nate Chinen of the New York Times' advice, as stated in an online discussion about the group, to “take them for what they are, rather than judge them for what they're not.”Transmissions From Deep Ellum is produced by Eric Lense and Jamie Margulies of GroundUp Music, and is narrated by Alex Ariff. Snarky Puppy: Transmissions From Deep Ellum

How would you describe Snarky Puppy? In Episode 1 of this series, band members weigh in on the essence of the group as they prepare to record Snarky Puppy's Grammy®-nominated album, Empire Central. Snarky Puppy: Transmissions From Deep Ellum

In episode three of Transmissions From Deep Ellum, the band finally takes the stage to record the Grammy®-nominated Empire Central and they have to ask themselves - do they still know how to record a live studio album? Descending upon Dallas' Deep Ellum Art Company to record, the bar is as high as ever - even for a band as accomplished as Snarky Puppy. You'll hear from longtime audio engineer Mike Harrison on how he captures their complex sound and improvisational performance; and, get a firsthand account of the recording process as if you were in the room experiencing the unique character of the Empire Central sessions - not a proper studio recording session, but also not a traditional live gig. Perspectives from the band members guide you through how they communicate and collaborate during the process, to ultimately achieve the sound that is Snarky Puppy.Snarky Puppy seamlessly fuses a deep knowledge and respect for musical tradition with sonic and conceptual innovation in a way that is able to reach the most critical- or most carefree- audience. In the finale of Breaking Waves: Seattle, we look at the collapse of the scene in 1997, and how Seattle struggled to find a new musical identity. From the ashes of grunge, a new scene began to form, focused around emerging genres such as indie rock and electronic music.  We wrap up the series by looking at the legacy of grunge, and examine the bands that followed, and new artists who are taking Seattle in new musical directions. We'll hear from Ben Gibbard, Sir Mix-a-Lot, Ayron Jones, Eva Walker, label executive Josh Rosenfeld, and many others as they describe how Seattle's current wave of musicians have continued to build from the DIY foundation created by the pioneers of the ‘90s. The final episode of Breaking Waves: Seattle is both a portrait and a love letter to one of America's most enduring music scenes. Breaking Waves was produced for Audacy by Osiris Media. FORQ is a harder-edge fusion band that Alex describes as ‘Snarky Puppy adjacent', due to its relationship to one of the founding members, Michael League. Keyboardist Henry Hey formed the band with League in the early 2010s and on this episode, Henry joins Alex along with FORQ guitarist Chris McQueen to talk about their innovative new album “Four (Remixt)”. Henry and Chris explain the creative process behind the album, which is a reimagining of their album “Four”. The band invited producers and musicians, including Alex, to remix the original tracks from the album and the results are wonderfully eclectic. The trio also talk about the differences of playing in FORQ and Snarky Puppy, and the musical curiosity that keeps their music fresh. You can hear Alex's remix “Duck People (No Fly List)” here.FORQ is an instrumental quartet with a dynamic sound and a penchant for sonic exploration. In this episode, we examine the shock of the grunge boom, the follow-ups to 1991's groundbreaking releases, the struggles faced by the city's new grunge celebrities, the loss of Seattle's most iconic rock legend, and the eventual collapse of the scene due to the heavy weight of expectations and the demands of fame. Episode two of Breaking Waves: Seattle begins with the release of what Charles Cross has labeled “the purest statement” of the grunge movement—the seminal Temple of the Dog album, created in memory of the late Andrew Wood.  At the same time, Pearl Jam was formed, Nirvana was gathering strength and Soundgarden was refining their iconic metal-influenced sound. Then, in the Fall of ‘91, the Seattle scene produced three of the most influential rock albums of all time: Pearl Jam's “Ten,” Soundgarden's “Badmotorfinger,” and Nirvana's “Nevermind.” Following this, there was no going back.
