On this week's program, your host, Justin Mog, takes a stroll through Louisville's historic downtown neighborhoods with Steve Wiser of the Louisville Historical League (https://louisvillehistoricalleague.org) & Martina Kunnecke from Neighborhood Planning & Preservation. We discuss the important role of historic preservation and neighborhood planning in shaping a more sustainable future for our city and we take a deep dive into the future of the Urban Government Center in Paristown Pointe between Barret and Vine Streets, north of Breckinridge. Steve Wiser published and excellent Op-Ed in the Courier-Journal on August 7th, 2024, entitled: "The Urban Government Center project was supposed to be a community asset. What happened? The city is permitting this developer to use taxpayer funds to eliminate blight that the city itself created." Vacant since 2016, there have been three redevelopment proposals for the Urban Government Center (also known as the old Baptist Hospital site). The first ended in 2019, the second at the end of 2020, and now the third (with Upper Paristown Pointe Trust) has been dragging out for the past two and a half years. Resident input, which was part of the community review process as required by the Request For Proposals (RFP), has been significantly reduced when many residents did not agree with UPPT's major changes. Thus, most of the surrounding neighborhood residents are not happy campers. Instead of UPPT starting construction on its 2020 RFP proposal in 2022, the city has allowed UPPT to continue to revise its proposal to where it no longer meets most of the minimum required guidelines of the RFP. Thus, far, the city refuses to 'listen' to the residents and implement what the residents want. An overwhelming majority of the residents want to save the open green space, part of the original hospital, a library, grocery, play area, etc. As always, our feature is followed by your community action calendar for the week, so get your calendars out and get ready to take action for sustainability NOW! 可以搜索公号【璐璐的英文小酒馆】或者添加【luluxjg】咨询课程or加入社群,查看文稿和其他精彩内容哦~ We went out again into the frosty air. “Now for Mr. Breckinridge,” Holmes said as he buttoned his coat. We zigzagged through the back streets. Soon we were in the Covent Garden market. We saw the name Breckinridge on one of the largest stalls. The owner had a long, sharp face. He and a small boy were just closing up. “Good evening. It's a cold night,” said Holmes. “You are sold out of geese, I see.” “I can let you have five hundred geese in the morning,” the man replied. “That won't do,” said Holmes. “I want the same kind of geese you sold to the Alpha Inn. They were fine birds. Where did you get them?” To my surprise, the question made Breckinridge angry. “Now then, mister,” he said. “What is all this about? I haven't heard anything else all day. ‘Where did you get all the geese? Who did you sell the geese to?' You would think they were the only geese in the world. People are making such a fuss about them.” “Well, I have nothing to do with the others who have been asking,” Holmes said. He sounded as if he did not care very much about it. “You won't tell us. So we'll have to cancel the bet. You see, I've bet five pounds those Alpha Inn geese were raised in the country.” “Then you will lose,” said Breckinridge. “Those geese were raised here in town.” “You'll never make me believe that.” “Will you bet, then?” Breckinridge asked. “That would just be stealing your money,” answered Holmes. “But I'll take you on.” Breckinridge laughed. He called the small boy to his side. “Bring me the books, Bill,” said he. “Now, then, Mr. Know-It-All,” he went on. “You see this little book? This is the list of folks from whom I buy. The numbers tell where to find them in the big book. See this page? It's in black ink. Those are my country goose-raisers. See this list in red? Those are my town people. Now, look at that third name. Just read it to me.” Holmes read. “Mrs. Oakshott, 117 Brixton Road. Number 249.” “Quite so. Now look up that number in this big book.” Holmes turned a page. “Here you are. Mrs. Oakshott, 117 Brixton Road. Eggs and Birds.” “Now,” said Breckinridge. “What is the last thing it says there? ‘December twenty-second. Twenty-four geese. At seven and a half shillings. Sold to the Alpha Inn at twelve shillings.' “Well? What do you say now?” Breckinridge asked.

Aimee Korch, Director of Relationship Management at Breckinridge Capital Advisors, joins Will today to discuss fixed income.Aimee says fixed income is the “most interesting” area of work for her. According to Aimee, there are so many ways the financial system can create debt, which fuels the economy. There are a lot of conversations on stocks, but not fixed income, so it tends to not come to mind for most people. Public stocks also tend to be more straightforward, whereas bonds work more inversely. Individual bonds or bond mutual funds? Aimee says owning individual bonds is an interest to investors who have unique guidelines and want customizations. Mutual funds are more of “what you see is what you get.” Breckinridge invests in investment-grade bonds and doesn't venture into high-yield or junk bonds. High-yield bonds generally offer higher returns due to their riskier nature, as they have lower credit ratings and weaker balance sheets. This increased risk could lead to a higher chance of default. The suitability of high-yield bonds depends on an investor's risk tolerance and financial profile. The decision to invest in a single segment or multiple segments within fixed income is subjective and depends on the client's objectives and portfolio context. There's no one-size-fits-all answer. Generally, diversifying across multiple segments is beneficial as it spreads risk, but the choice ultimately depends on the client's specific goals and preferences.Find Aimee here:Breckinridge Capital Advisors | Website
Be Fearless, Be Bold, Be You. This is a mantra that Dominica Ribeiro shares with us in today's podcast, and it is one that she herself has lived. Dominica started her career in finance when she walked into a firm after graduating high school and asked for a job. 27 years later, she is Chief Marketing and Distribution Officer at Breckinridge, a leading asset manager firm. Dominica is as wise as she is brilliant. She gained her fierce independence and work ethic from her mother who taught her to work hard and not to depend on anyone else for what you want. Dominica shares how she nurtures the ideas of those around her at every level, and how her experience seeking mentors who don't look like her, has paid dividends for her career. She is a leader who is adept at building her own brand and is always focused on the positive. She shares how her dual roles of Executive and parent have taught her lessons about communication, negotiation, and strategy. We learned so much from this conversation and we hope you will too. The following address was delivered by Robert J. Breckinridge as a speech made during the October 1843 meeting of the Synod of Philadelphia of the Presbyterian Church in the United States of America. This speech was subsequently published under the title, “Presbyterian Government, Not a Hierarchy, But a Commonwealth.” Sadly, Breckinridge's argument failed to persuade the Synod on this point. However, in published form, it has had an immense influence on the historic polity of the Southern Presbyterian Church (PCUS) and of its successor, the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/antiochpca/message

He's done Drag Queen/female impersonator shows. He talked about third gender and other types of gender and queer sexuality topics. He also shared intimate details about his relationship with his late husband and all the service he provided in hospice to his dying husband.

Benjamin Breckinridge Warfield - Imitating the Incarnation (1913) . . . This sermon by "The Lion of Princeton" unfolds both the theology and the import of Paul's magisterial description of the selfless love of the eternal Son on God in Philippians 2:5-8. Warfield's provocative exposition is challenging on many levels, but in the end he will leave you longing to be more like Jesus is His self-giving sacrifice.
Episode 43 Bobbi Jo Oberholtzer and Annette Schnee Part 1 of 2In 1982, two young women went missing from Breckinridge, Colorado on the same frigid January night, but at different times. Bobbi Jo Oberholtzer was found the next morning, shot to death atop Hoosier Pass. It took seven months to find Annette, shot to death in a remote location near Fairplay. Investigators always knew the cases were related, but could not run down a viable suspect. Finally, a bloody glove, an orange sock, a mountain-top distress signal, and forensic genealogy all worked together to identify Alan Lee Phillips as the killer of the two women. He was convicted in September 2022 of a double murder that haunted Colorado investigators for 40 years. This episode is sponsored by GEDMatch, whether you want to find out more about your family's history, help catch the bad guys we discuss on DNA: ID, or help give names to unidentified 'Does', Gedmatch has you covered. Breck, short for Breckinridge, has been immersed in sports for most of his life and he had, what most would consider to be an impressive collegiate football career as Quarterback. Breck gives us an inside view into what game day is like and provides us with insightful perspective that translates easily into tackling the challenges of everyday living. Breck also opens up about a freak accident that occurred while he was still in college involving a dog that would prove to be as challenging, or more challenging than the pressure of football. The Blade Dive - Episode 26, we are joined by Michigan native, Nicholas Symon, AKA Sic Nik! Symon is another Snow Industry lifer, who has been an anchor operator for the Breckinridge Terrain Park Crew. Specifically, Symon specializes in Halfpipe construction and claims to have learned from one of the best, if not the best….Brad Hoerter. Originally from Lansing, Michigan, Nicholas Symon found an escape from the cloudy winters and bitter cold of the mid west via a train ticket that took him to Alta Ski Area, Utah. Suddenly immersed in a new environment, centered around skiing and living life to the fullest, friends and future operator Mark Daigler would help keep that mission for living alive and would land Symon in Breckinridge, Colorado behind the sticks of a Snowcat. Nicholas Symon has been a part of the Halfpipe construction at Breckinridge resort for what would have been 2 decades if the pipe were to still be in existance, but alas, it doesn't. For an operator who has seen and experienced first hand, so much in his career, at an array of resorts…Dew Tour, Cutters Camp, US Open, home is where the heart is and Symon is so passionate about the Halfpipe at Breck. He is also passionate about the sharing of skill and knowledge and the value in teaching operators and we unpack what the future looks like... Episode 26 is a deep dive into the world of Halfpipe construction and operator culture. We discuss the difficulties of their construction and that one skilled operator at a mountain/resort isn't enough to sustain a Halfpipe or an individual, long term. How can we develop training? Are wage increases a game changer? Enjoy... and if you're in the machine, go ahead and TURN THE VOLUME UP!Follow us on:https://www.instagram.com/thebladedive/https://www.facebook.com/thebladedive
Welcome Back Everyone! to the BioBlitz! Oklahoma podcast! We have had a bit of a hiatus because things got busy for Angelina and me as things started to open up after the winter COVID lockdown. I am embarrassed to say that I recorded this podcast back in February! I think we were in the middle of that arctic blast that seems so long ago, now that we are in the middle of summer. In fact, in the recording you can hear the peeping of my newly arrive chicken chicks which were under the heat lamp in the next room. Those little ladies are full grown and should be laying eggs any day now. Anyway – you are finally getting my last recorded episode in which I talk with Jane Breckinridge – a butterfly farmer, non-profit director, and pollinator conservation advocate. She works extensively with tribes in Oklahoma to restore and protect pollinator habitat and provide economic opportunities in rural Oklahoma. Here are the links to the organizations we talk about in this episode:Tribal Alliance for Pollinators: https://tribalallianceforpollinators.com/ Monarch Watch: https://www.monarchwatch.org/ We are planning to host our fall BioBlitz! Oklahoma weekend in person this year. The dates are Oct 1-3 and we will be at Roman Nose State Park. Details will be announced in August and registration will open August 16. Stay informed by following our facebook page or signing up for the eNewsletter on our website.https://biosurvey.ou.edu/bioblitzok/ https://www.facebook.com/bioblitzoklahoma This podcast is a project of BioBlitz! Sophonisba “Nisba” Preston Breckinridge, born April 1, 1866, was a woman of firsts. Breckinridge was the first woman admitted to the Kentucky bar to practice law in 1895; the first woman to earn a PhD in Political Science at the University of Chicago in 1901; the first woman to earn a JD at the University of Chicago Law School in 1904; the first woman professor granted a named professorship at the University of Chicago in 1929; and the first woman to serve as U.S. representative to a high-level international conference in 1933. Along the way, Breckinridge co-founded the University of Chicago's Graduate School of Social Service Administration (now the The Crown Family School of Social Work, Policy, and Practice), was instrumental in the creation and promotion of The Social Security Act of 1935 and The Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938, and published extensively in the fields of family, public welfare, and children. Kelly briefly tells Breckinridge's story and interviews Anya Jabour, Regents Professor of History at the University of Montana, and author of Sophonisba Breckinridge: Championing Women's Activism in Modern America. “The People's Champ” - The Blade Dive Podcast, Episode 12 we are joined by Kevin Soller. A local to Breckinridge who's passion for the outdoors is derived from being a product of his environment... Summit County, Colorado. A Professional cyclist and mountain biker at one point, Kevin's need for speed transcends to snow with Alpine & Nordic racing. Sollers obsession with machines and operating equipment on dirt and snow had manifested a curiosity that took over and landed Kevin in the operator seat at events like Dew Tour Breckinridge, CO, US Open Vail CO, X Games Aspen, CO.Born in Frisco, CO and having access to Colorado as his back yard, Soller explored skiing at an early age, but developed a love for biking that grew into a pro cyclist career and took him all over the world. His professional cycling career spanned 10 years, but unfortunately pivoted when Soller was badly injured in Europe and was hospitalized. After nearly 100 stitches, a head injury and thoughts of no longer racing, Soller returned to the states to recoup. Seeing a sustainable career in equipment, Kevin Soller began to ask himself all the right questions and sought the help of operators such as Nicholas Symon & Mark Daigler in order to gain the proper perspective of what a good operator skill set should look like. Soller didn't want to sit in a machine to accomplish solely the completion of the task at hand, Soller wanted to retain knowledge and figure out which machine he enjoyed operating the most. Currently his machine of choice is the spider excavator and preferred locations are steep embankments at 30 degrees or steeper. Getting an opportunity to work on swing shift with the Alpine crew at Breckinridge, CO specifically in a winch cat....Soller developed an understanding for what maintaining skier access should look like. Becoming efficient at moving bulk amounts of snow, Kevin saw that every role within a team of operators is key. Kevin Soller will tell you that that he did not get where he is today without help and that learning from your mistakes is more important than making them. Operators are sometimes painted as uneducated, almost as if the machine was a last resort career choice. Kevin Soller has proved that theory incorrect.... he believes not everyone can operate a machine but asking yourself the right questions and seeking help that increases your knowledge is the best foot you can put forward. Episode 12 is a deep dive into the life and career of Soller, and we discuss planning ahead, being yourself, coming to the job prepared and remembering that if you're perspective is open and if you surround yourself with positive people... good things happen. Enjoy... and if you're in the machine, go ahead and TURN THE VOLUME UP!Follow us on:https://www.instagram.com/thebladedive/https://www.facebook.com/thebladedive

A longtime activist in international movements for peace and justice, Breckinridge also influenced the formation of the United Nations and advanced the idea that "women's rights are human rights." Her lifelong commitment to social justice created a lasting legacy for generations of progressive activists Anya Jabour is Regents Professor of History at the University of Montana. As there are still six more weeks until the next season of KUWTK premieres, these bonus shows have been different than the typical episode recaps. This week, Emma & Julie went on a trip down memory lane.
