Rising from the projects of Camden New Jersey, Art led the University of Kentucky to some of its greatest heights ever, and was the number two overall pick in the NFL draft by the Chiefs. On mostly lackluster teams he became a College Football and Chiefs Hall of Famer, while raising a large family, always with a smile and a story.

Welcome to the unofficial sixth season of Live On 4 Legs Podcast! While 2024 is gearing up to be a massive year for Pearl Jam and we plan to be there covering it every step of the way, we're still very excited to get you guys the weekly episodes covering all of your favorite shows throughout the history of this band. We're going to kick off the new year with a great show from the Binaural tour in 2000 located in Camden, New Jersey. This show took place near the end of the first North American leg, which had it's ups and downs due to it's proximity to the date of the Roskilde tragedy. By this point, the band had kind of found their own way out of the funk and strung together some excellent shows down the home stretch. This Camden show is a standout due to it's remarkable run from the middle of the main set straight through to the end. It kicks off with an electrifying Given To Fly, features a version of Better Man which we'll have tons of talking points about the tag, Present Tense's "twinkle", Spin The Black Circle's sheer speed and Black's ability to melt your soul. It was not the best show for Ed's voice, but everyone powered through it and the band had his back in times which he struggled. Another storyline from this night was the contingent of fans who brought signs for Breath with them, very similar to the moment at MSG on the previous tour, and for the only time during this entire tour year the band makes a setlist adjustment in order to play it. Also, what 80's metal songs were tagged at the end of Yellow Ledbetter? Stay tuned, the answer may surprise you... or may not. You can pretty much look that up. Maria's early beginning stories begun in a little country called the Faroe Islands. Here Maria spent the first eleven years of her life, immigrating to Canada as a non-English speaker. Later as an adult, Maria immigrated to the United States. Maria calls herself a precious jewels mamma, as she believes children are sacred gifts from God. I tend to think of mass shootings as something more current but what is largely considered America's first mass shooting was in 1949 even before University of Texas. There was such clear, complete and unvarnished coverage of this terrible event. One journalist won the Pulitzer Prize for News Reporting on this case. Howard Unruh took 13 lives and yet he lived 60 more years after the terror he brought to Camden, New Jersey. There are some heros in the story. Try to remember that.
For the second week in a row, we're diving back into 2022 to discuss one of Randy's favorite shows he's ever been to that happened in Camden. Originally slated for Baltimore during what was going to be the 2020 run, the band making a return to the Philadelphia area meant that there were no punches going to be pulled, this was destined to be a monster set. Seeing that the city has had rich and historical significance within the 32 years of this band, there were many callbacks to other Philly shows, including the legendary JC Dobbs show in 1991. Nine of the ten songs from that show were played that night as the earliest eras of Pearl Jam dominated this set. A lot of this episode will focus around Randy's personal stories and why this was an important show to him. There were songs played on this night that were very high up on his wishlist. Ones that he'd seen before, but not in over a decade, and a few that he'd been chasing for just as long. We'll highlight the memories created from hearing songs like Hard To Imagine, Untitled/MFC and Inside Job that were incredibly powerful, experience making moments. We'll also go in depth on an explosive version of Retrograde as well as an excellent Not For You. A big story from this show was that Ed and the band invited All-In contest winners, Richie and Dermot Berg to the stage, after a full day of experiencing the preparation of what goes in to putting together a Pearl Jam show. Back last September, we invited the Berg's onto the podcast to tell their story. We'll relive a clip from that, but give the full episode that's available in our archives a listen because there's no lack of awesome information shared there. We'll read your answers for question of the week where we asked whether you preferred shows in an amphitheater or arena setting, and our Gear Guru segment this week will focus on Do The Evolution playing off of the song's original pace and Quick Escape's overall sound from the Gigaton tour. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis described Florida as "where woke goes to die" during a rally Thursday promoting his book at Adventure Outdoor in Smyrna, the Cobb County gun store that was the center of a controversial ATF inspection this week. The governor used the event to pitch Florida as a state that is flourishing under his leadership, while claiming others led by Democrats are regressing. He also credited his approach to governance, which is not beholden to opinion polling, as the reason for the influx of people in Florida, saying "bold leadership is rewarded." DeSantis spent much of his speech denouncing COVID lockdowns and praised Florida's decision not to follow federal COVID recommendations. He also touched on other topics such as law enforcement, the southern border, and, what he calls, "wokeness." Governor DeSantis has not officially announced his intention to run in the 2024 Republican presidential primary, but many consider him to be the main GOP challenger to former President Donald Trump, who now has his own battles as he was indicted in New York on 34 counts of business fraud on Thursday. The Kell boys basketball season came to an end in the second round of “The Throne,” a 16-team, high school national championship tournament at Morehouse College on Thursday. Cameron Boozer, the Gatorade National Boys Basketball Player of the Year, scored 28 points, on 11-of-19 shooting and pulled down nine rebounds, to lead Columbus Florida past the Longhorns 66-53. The Explorers advanced to the tournament semifinals where they will face D.J. Wagner and Camden New Jersey. Kell was led by Peyton Marshall's 15 points and eight rebounds. Cannon Richards and Parrish Johnson each had 11 points. Cayden Boozer finished with 16 points and Malik Abdullahi added 14 points and 11 rebounds for Columbus. USF officially introduced former Kennesaw State coach Amir Abdur-Rahim as the men's basketball coach, in a bid to revitalize the team that has had one winning season since its last NCAA Tournament appearance in 2012. Abdur-Rahim helped transform Kennesaw State into a contender that reached the NCAA tournament this year. He has said that he wants to build his roster with high school talent and will focus on in-state players as well as seeking foreign talent. While Abdur-Rahim utilized the Transfer Portal at KSU, he said he wants to try to build the foundation of his Bulls' program with Florida high school talent. Abdur-Rahim is also a fan of the USF women's basketball team coach, Jose Fernandez, who just led the Bulls to their 9th NCAA tournament appearance in his 23-year tenure in Tampa. Dr. Ben Wynne will be presenting his book "Something in the Water: A History of Music in Macon, Georgia, 1823-1980" as part of the Georgia Writers Museum's Meet the Author series on April 4 at 7 p.m. The event will feature soul food and a DJ playing hits by Macon musicians. The book includes stories of the Allman Brothers Band, who lived in The Big House in Macon from 1970-1973, and whose history is preserved in an interactive museum. Attendees can pre-order the book and Dr. Wynne will be signing copies after his presentation. The event costs $45 per person, $80 per couple or $200 for a VIP Table for six guests. Registration is available on the Georgia Writers Museum's website. Kennesaw State University senior Kevin Tran has been conducting research for two years, developing compliant mechanisms and creating his own 3D-printed lab prototypes for testing and research. Tran, a mechanical engineering major, is one of four Research Students of the Year for the Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology. He believes that conducting research is important as it allows individuals to improve their skills and collaborate with like-minded people, which can be beneficial for any engineering field. Herndon ran unopposed and received 539 votes in the election. Herndon was endorsed by the De-Annexation from Mableton group, which is pushing for parts of the city that voted against incorporation last fall to be removed from the city. Herndon said that she decided to run after hearing that her area, the northwest portion of the city, would be included in its boundaries. Herndon is planning meetings with other city leaders and officials to learn more about zoning, code enforcement, and services the city is expected to offer. #CobbCounty #Georgia #LocalNews #RonDeSantis #Republican #Trump #Decision2024 - - - - - The Marietta Daily Journal Podcast is local news for Marietta, Kennesaw, Smyrna, and all of Cobb County. We began our episode by serving up the freshest meals in Camden County as we spoke with the co-owner and Chef of Corinne's Place. Originally born from a small catering business, the Founder Corinne Bradley-Powers grew her business into a beloved neighborhood spot; offering scratch-made foods that visitors from all over would travel to enjoy. Eventually word spread and her meals became so enticing that even celebrities and food critics became repeat customers. Mrs. Bradley-Powers eventually sold her business to Trevor Vaughan & his partner, Craig Sawyer, but not without Corinne's blessing; Corinne's new role within her famed restaurant is being the new owner's consultant. After ownership of the restaurant changed hands in 2019, Corinne's Place was nominated (and won) the James Beard Foundation's "America's Classics" Award, which is given to establishments that have remained open for at least 10 years, and reflect the character of its community. We touch on all of this and more, so stay tuned to hear about Corinne's Place's mouth-watering foods made with a whole lot of heart. Speaking of heart, we take you into the heart of Philadelphia's dining scene as we speak with Michelle Shannon who is the Vice President of Market and Communications for Center City District's Restaurant Week. Michelle and Gene had an enlightening discussion regarding the origins of Restaurant Week and the role it plays within the community. The two-week long event not only highlights some of the most prestigious restaurants within center city, it benefits all of you by providing the opportunity to taste the flavors of Philadelphia's vibrant dining scene at a set price. If you are looking to experience a restaurant that you've not heard of before, or perhaps one that is on your date-night bucket list, Center City Districts Restaurant Week is the perfect time to get a taste of what you're craving! Now if what you're craving is a delicious Mediterranean meal, then our next guest will surely tempt your taste buds! Spice Finch's Executive Chef, Michael Brenfleck, joined us to discuss the delectable options for their Center City Restaurant Week Menu! As we discussed a variety of Spice Finch's menu, both our co-hosts salivated over the luscious descriptions of every item. And what better way to enjoy a richly devised meal than to pair it with the perfect wines? This is why Chef Brenfleck sat with Spice Finch's Beverage Manager to pick just the right wine to pair with the first two courses. Now that is something I would like lingering on my palate--and you can too, so long as you stay tuned in for the entire episode of Food, Farms, & Chefs!

In the 1950s to the early 1960s many talented black basketball players never made it to the NBA or the ABA, where did they end up? A. They played in independent leagues such as Rucker's B. They played in Independent Leagues such as Sonny Hill C. They played in Independent Leagues such as Baker's League D. They played in Independent Leagues such as Future Leagues in Philly E. All of the above F. I do not know enough about that history to make a decision Today, we continue the Podcast series sharing the sit down we had with Donald Ducky Birts, The Risk Taker, among first African American Businessman in Camden NJ and Semi Sports Professional who was active in the civil rights movement, friend of Dr. MLK Jr. and Rev. Jesse Jackson and ran the local civil rights movements here in Philly and Camden NJ. We learned a lot about his life and a part of history that we never considered as it relates to civil rights, professional sports and those who we never hear about but who have worked tirelessly to help reposition the black and brown position and improve relations between races, people we can look to for inspiration such as Ducky. We continue his story and a reading of his book in Part 2 of the series on Ducky. We will read from chapters two and three and skip chapters 4 and four and wrap up this part with chapter five, looking at Ducky's involvement and contribution in and to Sports, Politics and the Civil Rights. We will break up the episode in segments sharing some moments of the interview we had with Ducky, which also features Co-host Donte Nelson and others. Here's an excerpt of the reading for today which is worth sharing here: “The Baker League consistently ran out enough star quality players to win a National Basketball Association (NBA) championship. You have to understand that at the time, the NBA teams were bringing in a limited number of blacks into the league. If you weren't Wilt Chamberlain, Oscar Robertson, Elgin Baylor or Guy Rodgers, the nations' highest profile players, you had to hope that a General Manager or a Head Coach would demand to bring in such players as Sam Jones from North Carolina, a Willis Reid from Grambling, or an Earl Monroe from Winston-Salem State Teachers College…. But many talented black players never made it to the NBA. Instead, they played in …,” Listen to the podcast for the answer as we interview the stalwart and cardinal black Hall-of-Famer Ducky and read from his book “Ducky, The Risk Taker,” by Donald Ducky Birts as told to Kendall Wilson, Narrated by Renaldo McKenzie, only on The Neoliberal Round Podcast, Season 5, episode 11 Part 2 of a four-part series. With September right around the corner, we're back to covering cities that Pearl Jam will be visiting on tour this year! First stop is Camden, a city that the band had never planned to be in back in 2020, but it just so happens to be on of the most frequent venues that Pearl Jam has ever played. This show we're covering is the second night of the two show run in 2006. Lots of good performances to discuss here, from the brand new at the time Avocado tracks, Gone and Severed Hand are two that stand out from this one. Most of this set features songs with blazing speed such as Save You, Grievance and Whipping, but on the flip side the first encore was a complete change of pace bringing in the more emotional tracks such as Man Of The Hour, Black and the second all-time performance of Parachutes. But this show we'll also have a big finish on encore 2 as well! Tune in to check out the set, some discussion on Ed singing with The Strokes and a New Jersey tailgate fit for kings! Kirk Rogers a native of Camden New Jersey of America raised by his single motherfrom Georgia on the deep southern values and traditions. As the youngest child of 5 in aset of twin boys his mother who was not a musician always encouraged the music andarts in the home. Kirk was always involved in the music and arts in which he started outwith playing the Trombone, French horn and Alto Saxophone all before the age of 12.Kirk was also a tap dancer where he and his twin brother learned the tapping skills thatmirrored the likes of the Hines Brothers and the Nicholas Brothers in the style called“hoofing”at Sydney's School of Dance. We were even honored to perform during ourannual recital with Lola Falana (also a Camden NJ native) in one of our choreographedtap performances. At about the age of 12 his mother arranged for piano lessons at ourlocal in Camden, New Jersey with my Godfather Floyd Riley. He was taught to play thepiano to be the musician for their local church. Being raised by a single parent, hismother felt the importance to keep her children active and especially a set of twin boysliving in the inner city that was surrounded with so many things that could have detouredher desires for our lives. As a musician and also being active in the artist communitywith Community Theater, these were the tools that I needed to pursue a life of musicand entertainment. Although the extent of my musical training stems from church, community summer band, private lessons, all have contributed to the knowledge to be asuccessful vocal coach and music teacher. With such humble beginnings is what has afforded Kirk to work with Gospel greats suchas Norman Hutchins, Keith Pringle and Dottie Peoples and was also honored to be inthe Movie “Good Deeds” with Tyler Perry, American Pie 4, and The Three Stooges justname a few.Since relocating to Germany we have been taught many choirs all throughout Europepriding ourselves on teaching traditional and contemporary Gospel music and currentlyteaching Gospel Workshop throughout Europe. And also honored to have toured andperformed with some of the best artists world wide, but one of our greatestaccomplishments was when our group The Real Rogers & Friends was honored toshare the stage backing up Mariah Carey during her 2018 Christmas Tour concert inBerlin. Now the Gospel Recording Artist is on a mission to take the message of his music backto the streets of our inner cities.

This week on BeREAL, Diana and Ednesha are joined by Jessica Perez to continue the discussion on Minority Mental Health Month. Jessica is here to discuss the mental health counseling experience of the Latinx community. Jessica B Perez, Latina from North Philadelphia. Jessica received her MSW in NYC where she started her career in Social work working with families from Lower East side Manhattan and Bedsty Brooklyn. Jessica moved back to Philadelphia,PA to continue her work in the predominantly Latinx/Hispanic community by managing an at-risk youth program funded by the city of Philadelphia providing supportive and therapy services. In addition, she continued to provide individual and family therapy through mobile services. Currently, she is a Licensed School Social Worker in Camden Nj working with Latinx/Hispanic and Black children in the Charter School system. Jessica is committed to the practice as a school social worker and works with children and families as a certified trauma clinician. She is passionate about her K-8th grade students and contributing to designing and implementing systems within the school system and community to promote mental health and link resources to overcome barriers which limit the success of disadvantaged families. Jessica begins the episode by answering a few questions from Ednesha. Ednesha is interested in knowing what it is like to work in a therapy practice in Camden, NJ, which was once deemed the most dangerous city in the state. Jessica explains how many social work initiatives by the local government have helped re-envision Camden in a new, prosperous light. She tells of her own experience as a school counselor in the area, and the change she witnessed in her students/patients. The conversation then shifts to focus on the Latinx community and mental health. Jessica elaborates on the different barriers that deter Latinx people from seeking therapy. One issue she highlights is the fear of deportation. The fear that federal institutions, such as ICE, have instilled in Jessica's community has created a mentality that they must solve all their issues on their own, because seeking help may lead to catastrophic consequences. Jessica then offers advice for non-Latinx therapists on how to create a safe space for Latinx clients. An overarching theme in her advice is diversification. The mental health field needs to diversify in multiple ways; more practices must hire Latinx clinicians, more therapists must speak a Latinx language, and more therapists must have knowledges of the great diversity within the term “Latinx.” The label “Latinx” does not refer to one culture or people, but numerous different communities that have their own beliefs, values, and customs. Your hosts finish off the episode by examining the possible mental health implications of online learning in Fall 2020, due to COVID-19. They offer advice on what parents and teachers should look out for, and ways to make online learning exist within an environment that promotes positive mental health. Thank you so much for tuning into BeREAL this week! We look forward to having you with us next week, but in the meantime, remember to catch last week's episode on Black men and mental health if you haven't already.
