This week on the show Ang is addressing the huge subject of how divorce affects your children. After Ang's divorce she was left to raise her two sons. Through this experience she has first hand knowledge of the stigma single mums face, the difficulty in transitioning from being one parent to two and how to help guide your children through the pain. But, Ang has come out the other side and now sees benefits in her relationship with her children that she never expected. In this episode, she shares all her wisdom and learnings so that you, and your children, can also find your happy place.  KEY TAKEAWAYS As Ang discovered, she didn't just have to get herself through the hardship of divorce, but she had to help her children through the process as well. She talks about the challenges that brings, such as answering tough questions with honesty. One of the biggest challenges Ang found was that she was now acting in the role of two parents. She talks about how she overcame this challenge and some of the difficulties in adopting tasks that are usually left to the male role model.  Still today Ang finds herself in a constant fight with people about the perception of single  mums. Ang details how she deals with this, even when she's out on a date with a prospective new partner. Once on the other side of the emotional pain, Ang discovered many unexpected benefits of being a single mum, which she discusses. BEST MOMENTS “You must give your children a place where they can feel safe and their circumstances are as normal as can be.” “Your own pain is one thing, but the torture you feel when your children's hearts are bleeding is suffering like no other.” “When you're raising children by yourself, the trials and tribulations are magnified, you don't have anyone to take over or comfort you.” VALUABLE RESOURCES https://www.instagram.com/doireallyhatemen/ https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61558725612414 www.tiktok.com/@angallanburns www.linkedin.com/in/angallanburns e-mail ang@doireallyhatemen.com ABOUT THE PODCAST Do I Really Hate Men? In this podcast, my guest, Roberta Samet, and I discuss the impact of divorce on children, when they are used by one ex-partner to gain power over, or punish, the other. When this happens, children are put into an impossible bind, in which they must align with one parent and reject the other. Often, they take responsibility for the pain they have caused the marginalized parent, and experience intense guilt and remorse in adulthood. Roberta and I also discuss the impact of this on the new couple, and how they can either cede power to the ex-partner and allow him/her to dominate their new couple, or attempt to focus instead on their new relationship and minimize the influence of the ex-partner.

When it comes to this podcast, we would like to make sure that we bring to light all of the downsides of bad divorces by speaking to people who have went through it. So, in this episode we speak to Ben kowalski who went through a bad divorce and lived through a situation where his home didnt feel safe for him anymore. We talk about all the struggles of growing in such an environment and how he went on to teach himself to be someone who he is now, a well balanced adult with a lot to offer to the world and his family. Find My Parent is proud to present its ‘You're Double' podcast hosted by Sathyvelu Kunashegaran. While over at findmyparent.org, we have developed innovative technology to reunite children with their families, we also believe its important to dive deep into the topics affecting children and separated families to address the root causes of parental abduction and alienation. ‘You're Double' will do just that by asking the tough questions to experts and thought leaders about relationships, marriage, divorce, parental alienation, joint custody, co-parenting, and so much more. These experts will often include family therapists, divorce lawyers, politicians, social workers, and government employees. If you're looking for guidance on divorcing with adult children, you might not find much. They tend to be the forgotten demograhic: the legal system is all about minor children and there simply hasn't been much research on the impact of divorce in adult children. That's probably because until recently divorce among people with long term marriages was less common. That's changing and in fact, the divorce rate among people aged 50 and older is increasing. That means more and more adults are experiencing their parents' divorce. What we're finding is that the age of the children doesn't matter - they will still care that you're divorcing and their age doesn't make it any easier or harder to handle. Their age brings its own set of problems and complications.Joining Mandy for this Conversation is divorce-attorney-turned divorce adviser and coach Karen Covy. Karen's mission is to help people understand their divorce options so they can make choices that will help them not only survive their divorce but put them in a position to thrive afterwards.
