In this week's 'Wisdom' episode, we explore the connection between ADHD, perfectionism, and burnout, and how these patterns often shape our daily lives without us realising. I've also written about this deeply personal topic in Chapter 6 (Prevent Burnout) of my upcoming new book, The ADHD Women's Wellbeing Toolkit. On today's episode, we revisit conversations with Natalie Englander, an accredited senior CBT therapist and Michaela Thomas, a Clinical Psychologist, coach and author. From procrastination and people-pleasing to self-criticism and the pressure to keep going, we unpack the emotional toll perfectionism can take. We also discuss practical tools like mindfulness and how reframing perfectionism with curiosity and compassion can help us work with our brains, not against them.

I love big, life changes…said absolutely no one ever.Significant life changes like moving out of your hometown, changing career paths, or ending a significant relationship are terrifying even if you know it is what you should do. It takes proper planning and a lot of courage to follow through with these major milestones. These decisions have never come easy to me. I was terrified to quit my first job. It took me over 6 months to pull the trigger on moving out of my hometown. And I don't even want to talk about the countless relationships that drug on because I didn't have the courage to end them.At the end of the day, they were all the right decisions. The only thing I regret is not making those decisions sooner. I needed some encouragement from my friend and today's guest Kay Cote.Kay knows a thing or two about change. Growing up outside of Fargo, North Dakota, she's learned to embrace these big life decisions. She's lived in South Africa temporarily, tried RV life, quit her corporate job to become an entrepreneur, relocated to Austin, and most recently, decided to take a chance on a career change by jumping into the music industry.Through Kay's story and her PIVOT method, by the end of this episode, we'll be feeling equipped to say yes to that hard decision and embrace the change that comes with it.So if you're ready for that, let's get into it. I hope you enjoy my conversation with the minimalist, storm-chasing fanatic, and shuffle dance queen…Kay Cote.Key Takeaways:Building the courage to move out of your hometownCommunicate without verbal languageThe benefits of moving to a new city or countryBreaking out of the mundaneBuilding confidence and independence by movingHow to use the PIVOT method when thinking through major changesHow to get more opportunities by staying open-mindedUsing reflection to figure out what you want to do with your careerNothing in this life is permanentMore of Kay:Website: www.kaycote.comInstagram: thekaycoteMore of The Struggle is Real:Find show notes and more at https://www.tsirpodcast.com/Follow us on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/tsirpod/

How can we make an informal brainstorming session, full of possibilities and quick thinking, into something more formal… without squeezing the life from it?Alexandre Eisenchteter believes deeply in the power of brainstorming sessions — and that most of us undervalue them. It's a fair point: the prevailing view does seem to be that brainstorming is a chaotic and unstructured process. But, when Alex is facilitating, the opposite is true. When facilitated with care, brainstorming can provide us with a deeply collaborative and creative approach to problem-solving. “The number on the scale can only tell you what your weight is.” – Nicole HaganLet's ditch diet culture. Easier said than done, but what if losing weight really isn't the goal? What if we put away the scale? I loved talking with nutrition coach Nicole Hagan about what happens when we shift our thinking about weight and wellness and nutrition.Nicole shares her story about being obsessed with the number on her scale, while unwittingly undermining her health. We talk about the difference between losing weight and losing fat — and what people really mean when they say they want to lose weight.Diet culture is bad, but that doesn't mean that making changes to what or how you eat is bad. Body positivity is good, but it's unrealistic to think we're all going to love our body every day. So what if we focus on health change? We talk about: The why behind changes we want, be it weight loss or other physical changesHow our decisions now affect our life long-term Listening to our body's feedbackAdditive diets — what happens when you add more of what you need (protein, fiber … it varies) instead of saying you can't have any of somethingMetrics to use and milestones to celebrate that aren't scale related, but remembering to follow trends not one measurementSustainability and shame cyclesABOUT NICOLENicole Hagen is a nutrition coach, host of The Health, Wellth & Wisdom Podcast & a new mom. Driven by her own journey of recovering from a years-long eating disorder & healing her own relationship with food, Nicole has found her calling to help other women unsubscribe from the toxic diet culture, find food freedom & reach sustainable fat loss without deprivation, shame, or guilt. Today, 10+ years later, she has a Master's in Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Public Health alongside countless other degrees, various podcast & media features & a successful business where she has helped hundreds of women leave yo-yo dieting and toxic diet culture behind, so they can live the healthiest & happiest lives!LINKSInstagram @nutritionwithnicoleWebsiteHealth, Wellth & Wisdom podcast DOABLE CHANGESAt the end of every episode, we share three doable changes, so you can take what you've heard and put it into action. Action is where change happens.Even though we want big change, it's really little things done over and over that make the difference. So pick a doable thing. Put it in your calendar. Weave it through your days for a week and then move on to the next one. It will have a snowball effect. Here are three Doable Changes from this conversation:NUTRITION BY ADDITION. Instead of restricting what you eat, start with something you are not getting enough of. For a lot of people it is protein or fiber. Pick one way to add more of that. For example, a smoothie with lots of fruits or veggies adds fiber. Batch cook chicken or beans so you can easily add protein to meals throughout the week. Pack some protein snacks that you can keep in your car.KNOW WHAT YOU REALLY WANT. Would you be happy if you looked and felt the way you wanted to, had fantastic health markers, and were showing up the way you want to, but the number on the scale didn't change? What is it you...
