It's a question as old as relationships themselves... "How do I know when it's time to break up?" We've all asked ourselves this question one time or another...but almost no one really knows the answer. It's not easy to look at a relationship and decide whether it's fixable or totally f*cked. But there are some symptoms that will start to pop up when things have taken a turn for the worse...and some questions we can ask ourselves to figure out exactly where we stand. Stay and fight, or turn and run? Only you can answer that, love...but I can help you get there. Let's go over some of the signs that might be time to call it quits. If you've taken reiki classes, then you've definitely practiced on yourself. And the more experienced you become, the more you practice on other people, and even animals. But so many of us eventually stop practicing reiki on ourselves, for any number of reasons. I wanted to bring on another reiki master to chat about the importance of continuing to practice reiki on yourself, for yourself, even if you've progressed far beyond level 1 reiki training. Michelle is the host of the Soul Over Matter podcast. She is a certified Reiki master teacher, intuitive coach, and female empowerment mentor. And I hope you enjoy our conversation as much as I did. Dr. Michelle K. Johnston has life-long experience in embracing and accessing the power of connections. Growing up as a “corporate brat,” Michelle's family moved every few years. Her father's job at General Motors required relocation as his career advanced. He promoted their moves as adventures. She always found a way to fit in, and skilled at being the new kid. As she began her professional career, however, Michelle's methods for ‘fitting in' did not work as well for her. She realized that she had to distinguish herself, rather than blend in, to be seen as valuable in the professional marketplace. Michelle discovered that she needed to develop different ways to make meaningful connections to be effective and grow professionally. She worked for a consulting firm right out of graduate school, traveling to companies to teach meeting management, communication, presentation skills, and team building. Michelle also taught an evening business communication class at Loyola University New Orleans, close to home. Being newly married, she welcomed the opportunity to travel less when the Dean offered her a full-time teaching role in the business school. Today, Michelle is a management professor, executive coach, and leadership expert who serves as the Gaston Chair of Business at Loyola University New Orleans. She is a celebrated keynote speaker presenting at conferences and events nationwide. Her book, The Seismic Shift in Leadership: How to Thrive in a New Era of Connection, details the need for leaders to shift from a command and control leadership style to one that focuses on connection. She affirms that connection drives long-lasting results, enabling leaders to more effectively connect with their teams to achieve personal and professional goals. In this week's Work From The Inside Out podcast, follow Michelle's journey and work: Michelle earned her Ph.D. in Communication at Louisiana State University. Her grandfather, a professor at Georgetown, wrote her letters to persuade her to pursue a doctoral degree. She was named to the prestigious MG 100 Coaches group, which consists of the top executive coaches worldwide affiliated with Marshall Goldsmith. Michelle was named one of the most influential New Orleanians, a top 500 business leader, and a Woman of the Year by CityBusiness. Michelle Harris founded Bosstrack in 2021 to provide women new to leadership roles with the development, support and mentorship she found lacking for new leaders. Often little thought is given to the new tools and perspectives needed to lead and, as a result, new leaders are expected to just “figure things out.” Bosstrack was developed to fill this gap. Michelle has more than 25 years of leadership experience with more than half of that time spent at an executive level. Her focus has always been on people, shaping her teams to produce results and grow in their roles. She has led her teams through financial reorganizations, acquisitions and multi-billion dollar private equity sales. She is excited to bring this opportunity to new women leaders. Michelle offers interesting insight about the balance between wellness and being a leader, as well as challenges of women in leadership. Her global brand, Bosstrack, has become an online women's leadership community of ambitious female leaders. According to Bosstrack's website, "Whether you're a new manager pushing to become a successful, high impact leader or an experienced leader looking to sharpen your skills and network, you've landed in the right place. We've helped other women become high-performance, high-impact leaders and we'd love to work with you too! When not working to empower women leaders, you can find Michelle in the water, in a photography studio or at a new restaurant. She enjoys photography, scuba diving, free diving, enjoying food and wine and exploring new places. She is based in Miami and is a mom to two and wife of a former Marine. In this episode Michelle talks about being reborn after having her confidence stripped, being humiliated and losing herself all at the cost of trying to fulfil her dream career. We discuss how even strong women can fall victim to the misogyny of the music industry and the moment she reclaimed her power! “The misogynistic, the uncaring, revolting behaviour and words that were spoken to us for those two years, I, honest to God was broken. I was not myself. I couldn't sleep outside of panic attacks, literally spiralled into this depression. I came home, like the most amazing thing I did was performed like 20,000 people in Trafalgar Square with the girls. And we had the best time, and we all said, like we had to call it. Everyone was like, it was getting to the point where it was ridiculous. I was such a positive, loving person all in my life, got to a stage where I couldn't even sleep, I couldn't talk, I couldn't laugh. I was just numb to the world. ” ABOUT THE GUEST - MICHELLE GRIMES Irish Pop singer and multi-instrumentalist Michelle Grimes arrived on the scene with a voice, panache and Pop / R'n'B sensibility that instantly set her apart from her musical peers. No stranger to the stage, Michelle has performed in Trafalgar Square to over 20,000 spectators as part of ‘Pride in London', has sung for the King and Queen of Belgium as well as singing for The Taoiseach and the U.S Presidential party in June last year when they visited Ireland. Hailing from Limerick, Grimes has emerged as one of the country's most promising pop acts of recent memory. After the release of her first single ‘Going, Going, Gone', Hotpress nominated Grimes alongside the likes of Dermot Kennedy and Denise Chaila for Irish artist of the year and one to watch. Michelle's debut single wowed Irish radio and she went straight onto playlists across the country from Fm104, Live95, LMFM, Corks 96 and C103 as their Select Irish Artist of the Month as well as gracing the airwaves across BBC (Track of the week), 2FM, Spin and many more. Michelle smashed it at the overall International Radio Charts in Ireland landing on the Top 20 most played Artists on Irish radio alongside Ariana, Joel Corry, Dermot Kennedy, Dua Lipa and other stars. The track reached #3 in the breakers charts on Irish radio too. Narcissist. It's such a power word, right? You call someone a narcissist, and suddenly you feel so much better about yourself and what happened with them. Why is this? As people, when we're in our ego, we like labels. We like to ignore duality. And if we can label someone who hurt us, we're able to understand that and absolve ourselves of any concerns over our role or any doubts about our self-worth. Here's the thing, babe: someone ghosting you doesn't make them a narcissist. Someone ignoring your feelings or your boundaries doesn't make them a narcissist. It might make them a dick, but it doesn't make them a narcissist. We need to stop throwing around a fucking serious personality disorder as a name for when someone lacks desire or care for us. Let me tell you what narcissism ACTUALLY looks like, and why we need to stop tossing this word around like it's nothing. Today I want to talk about something you probably haven't heard of...it's called the drama triangle. The drama triangle has three "points," or "roles," to it: the victim, the persecutor, and the rescuer. And when we get into an argument with our partner, we can often end up battling it out for which of us gets to play the role of the victim. In a healthy relationship, there are no victims, babe. There's room for duality. You are able to accept your part in the problem...without taking responsibility for his part. And once you've mastered that, you're able to stay the fuck out of the drama triangle cycle. But you've got to take yourself out of it, and I'm here to tell you how. When we think about transformation, we tend to think about the beauty at the end of it, not the pain we go through on the way. This just in: doing the work isn't all pretty self-care rituals and kind affirmations and relying on a program's curriculum to do all the changing for you. It's called doing the work; it requires your active participation. And I'm not going to lie to you, all right? It's gonna feel like you're fucking dying. Why? Because part of you is. You're a caterpillar in its cocoon, babe. And before you can become the beautiful butterfly you're meant to be, you've gotta go through a phase of dissolving your old identity so you can transform yourself into someone new. So it happened again, huh, love? You set a standard, you set a boundary, and it got fucking crossed. You're sick of not having your standards met, you don't understand why it keeps happening, and you don't know how to fix it... Well, I've got good news and bad news for you. Good news? I do know how to fix it. Bad news? It's going to take some hard fucking work on your part. The truth is, people aren't responding to your words, babe—they're responding to your energy. And if you're setting a boundary that keeps getting crossed, guess what? It's because you keep letting it get crossed. Your words say you won't tolerate it, but your energy says you not only tolerate it...you welcome it. So how do you change your energy to ensure your boundaries get respected? It's been a long time coming, loves, but the time is finally here to talk about trust. Specifically, what happens when either you or your partner breaks it. I'm not gonna lie to you—this fucking sucks. Especially when you're the one who's had trust broken, but also when you are the trust-breaker...because oftentimes, we actually hurt each other unintentionally. One of you is left betrayed. One of you is guilty. You agree to try and repair trust...but how do you do that? It's a hard, hard thing to navigate, but it can be done. Let's dive right in to how you can begin repairing trust. Oooo-kay, ladies, this one might be a bit hard to swallow. Today, we're talking about the stages of falling in love. The four stages are Honeymoon (we all know that one), Power Struggle (uggghhh), Stability (almost there!), and Commitment (the goal, right?). Now, I can already hear some of you: "My relationship is perfect!" "The honeymoon stage never ended for us!" I'm about to give you such a rude awakening, my dear, sweet loves: it will end eventually. And if you're not prepared for it, that fallout is going to be a BITCH. But if you can get past that Power Struggle valley where relationships go to die, you're going to come out the other side that much wiser, that much stronger, and that much more in love. Let me be your guide through every stage of falling in love. Join my signature 12-week program, The Connected Woman. Okay, ladies: it's about time we sat down and had a chat about the Big O: orgasms. Some of you just got excited...and some of you got worried. I get it, love. Orgasms are a sensitive subject for me—not just for me, but for a lot of women. So many of us have had Hollywood's version of sex hammered so deep into our brains that we can't picture anything else. If we're not cumming in thirty seconds or less, something has to be wrong with us, right? We must be broken. Wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong. You aren't broken, love—none of us are. Let's dive in and talk all about orgasms. Join my signature 12-week program, The Connected Woman. Take a deep breath and grab a glass of wine, babes. You're gonna need both, because today, we're chatting all about shame. Just about every woman I've met has some kind of shame surrounding her sexuality. That's the bad news. The good news? That means you're not alone. So many of us struggle with having total confidence in our sexuality and our pleasure...including me. Yes, me. I've struggled with so much sexual shame my entire life, and only recently did I start figuring out how to unpack that shit and start taking responsibility for my own pleasure. It starts with identifying the conditioning you've gone through; aka, what you've been taught to think about sex, whether actively or passively. Get ready, ladies. Let's jump right in. Breaking news my love: the world doesn't owe you love. It actually doesn't owe you a goddamn thing. If you're sitting there blaming the universe for your problems in life or relationships, and figure that one day, one magical“huh, I guess we're done fucking with her, time to give her the man of her dreams and a fantastic, fullfilled life to go with it,” …let me know how that goes. After you get back from nowhere, maybe have a listen to episode 56 of the UnF*ck Your Relationships Podcast to hear more about: Healthy expectations in relationships How to stop blaming everyone else Where to start in terms of doing the work Just where do you get off having all these entitled fantasies of how life is supposed to be, when you aren't willing to stop and evaluate the part you play in keeping yourself blocked? You do it, don't deny it; it's not up to anyone but you. You have all the control, you hold all the emotional cards. So get in the fucking game. Everyone learns, experiences, and grows in life differently. Some people figure things out after making one mistake, and others take longer than most. Sometimes, the fastest transformations don't come until we hit our 40s or 50s. We carry lies we were told as children, often times, forgetting to update our belief system through the course of our lives. This is where we get stuck. Holding on to past hurts. Being unwilling to forgive and liberate ourselves from useless emotions of fear, shame, and guilt. The great news is, those who have figured it out have been successful in helping others break through these emotionally handicaps. Today's guest is one of those people. Michelle Fuller is Founder of One Bold MF and is a transformation coach, lifestyle engineer, speaker, and contributing author who works with women to help them kick fear to the curb and finally get to making a commitment to the one person who matters most…………themselves. Favorite Quote: “I'm never going to say that I'm comfortable with people hating me. Noone is comfortable with that. That is a lie, but I can be comfortable with the feeling and then letting it go, and then realizing at the end of the day, it has nothing to do with me. It has everything to do with them and I'm just going to keep doing what I feel is right. As long as I'm in integrity, I have no problem with what you think of me.” Michelle Fuller Connect With Michelle: Facebook Instagram One Bold MF Book: The Greatest Lessons I Learned from My Mom How to Get Involved: Addicted to Winning connects listeners through stories that prove why mindset matters.
