This week we're excited to present a conversation with Silent Friend director Ildikó Enyedi and lead actor Tony Leung, moderated by TIME film critic Stephanie Zacharek. Silent Friend is currently playing daily at Film at Lincoln Center. Get tickets at filmlinc.org/friend Ildikó Enyedi, whose On Body and Soul won the Golden Bear at the 2017 Berlinale and earned an Academy Award nomination for Best International Feature Film, returns with a century-spanning triptych that moves from 1908 to the early months of the pandemic, unfolding around an ancient ginkgo in the botanical garden of Marburg University, the fixed witness to a century's worth of passing faces. From a young woman forcing her way into the male-dominated scientific establishment at the dawn of the 20th century to idealistic lovers in the politically turbulent 1970s, Enyedi considers how consciousness itself is historically situated, mapping the incremental rewiring of how people think and connect over time. Tony Leung anchors the 2020 chapter with a characteristically subtle, deeply felt performance as a visiting neuroscientist stranded on campus during lockdown, whose attempt to measure the tree's electromagnetic signals—guided remotely by a French plant biologist, played by Léa Seydoux—gradually opens into a meditation on perception itself.
Isabelle Stadden had been a child protege in the pool, representing the USA on the international stage multiple times over, accruing numerous accolades well before she even reached college. Attending Cal Berkeley, Stadden continued to rake in awards and honors, becoming an NCAA All-American many times over during her 5 seasons with the Golden Bears. Weeks after completing her undergraduate degree, Stadden competed at the 2025 US World Trials. In what was supposed to be a springboard for her pro career, Stadden had what she says was one of the worst meets of her life. Her performances in Indianapolis were lackluster and resulted in her first time missing the USA National Team in 7 seasons. After that, Stadden took a long time away from the pool. 6 months removed from her last competition, the Minnesota native decided to give it one more go around, this time doing it for herself rather than feeling the external pressures of performing for a team or to satisfy others' expectations. She moved to arguably the top women's program in the country, the University of Virginia, to train under the 2024 Olympic women's head coach, Todd DeSorbo. Just 4 months into training in Charlottesvillle, she went a 2:05.9 in the 200 back in early March, dropping over a second off of her previous PB of 2:07.28 set in May of 2021. 7 weeks later at the Ft Lauderdale Open, Stadden struck gold again, touching in 2:04.37, becoming the #4 performer in history and #1 in the world this year. Listen to Stadden as she shares her perspective on returning to her sport refreshed, reenergized, and ready for more, looking towards the end of the summer and beyond.
Ep. 392: Ildiko Enyedi on her new film Silent Friend, tree time, the everlasting serenity of Tony Leung, and theories of consciousness Welcome to The Last Thing I Saw, with your host, Nicolas Rapold. Silent Friend is the latest feature from filmmaker Ildiko Enyedi, whose On Body and Soul won the Golden Bear at the 2017 Berlinale and was an Oscar nominee. Like the Hungarian director's debut feature, My Twentieth Century (1989), Silent Friend is her latest ambitious work, spanning three time periods: 1908, when the first female student at a German university attempts to begin her studies; 1972, when a student finds the activities of a geranium far more intriguing than protests; and 2020, when a visiting professor (played by Tony Leung) conducts experiments around plant consciousness. What ties the eras together is a giant, beautiful gingko tree, in a film that's equally a work of ideas, sensuous textures, and youthful experience. I had the pleasure of chatting with Enyedi during her visit to New York for the release of Silent Friend, and the conversation fairly quickly went into the realm of deep tree thoughts. A deep dive conversation based on the moviescramble.co.uk review written by Mary Munoz. In Berlin, 1942, Hilde finds her place within an anti-Nazi resistance group as gradually as she falls in love with one of its members, Hans Coppi. With their lives being in constant danger, the two spend an unforgettable summer until they get caught by the Gestapo, and Hilde Coppi is imprisoned, eight months pregnant. From Hilde, with Love (German: In Liebe, Eure Hilde) is a 2024 German biographical film about Hilde Coppi, who, along with her husband Hans Coppi, belonged to Red Orchestra, a German resistance group to Nazism. Directed by Andreas Dresen, the film stars Liv Lisa Fries in the titular role of Hilde Coppi and Johannes Hegemann as Hans Coppi. The film was selected in the Competition at the 74th Berlin International Film Festival to be held from 15 to 25 February 2024, where it competed for the Golden Bear with its first screening on 17 February at Berlinale Palast. The film is a drama of short life, about love and death, based on true events of World War II. In early 1942 in Berlin, Hilde Coppi, a young medical assistant, became part of a rebel group that was later known as the "Red Orchestra". There she met and fell in love with Hans Coppi, who later became her husband. They enjoyed a wonderful summer together, despite the danger of their activities and the risk of being caught. Eventually captured by the Gestapo, Hilde was imprisoned while pregnant. She gave birth to a son in Barnimstrasse women's prison, and soon after, she was condemned to death. In her final months, being a mother gave her the strength to face her destiny. Phew this is a big pod today, one of our longer ones....we try to keep the main pod no longer than an hour, but it's a tad hard in Masters week! We start today with Mark asking Nick how he prepared for The Masters given he played it 4 times. Nick explains what he did, and he talks about the first time he saw the course, and what he did. He explains the how the wind works on 11,12, and 13. We talk about preparation in the lead-up, and Nick explains why living at Isleworth in Florida was the perfect preparation - if you know why, the story is worth hearing again, if you don't - it is wild. Mark asks about the risks of overdoing your preparation when you arrive at Augusta, particularly as the course is so hilly. The facilities have had an upgrade at Augusta (of course they have, they're loaded), and we hear about the new carpark for the players....sheez.Onto the Ryder Cup, with Tiger now not in consideration, who will be the captain for the US team? We talk about the names being mentioned and Nick and Mark suggest who they think it will be and why.Mark runs through The Masters '6's'. That is: 1966, 1976, 1986, 1996, 2006 - all years where extraordinary things happened. And he tells a great story about Greg Norman from the 96 Masters, not great for Greg, or for Australians, but amusing in hindsight. What about the Augusta National Women's Amateur - 18-year old Raegan Denton from Adelaide finished T4, the highest ever finish by an Australian in the tournament! A star on the rise for sure, and we award her our Hostplus 'Plus for Golf' this week. She certainly is.After the turn, into the back 9....sorry, Masters week so it's the second 9. We hear about a few of the rules at Augusta, overall they are strict but they all add to the prestige. For BMW our Touch of Class goes to Justin Rose, Nick watched his interview at Augusta and given the pressure he must be feeling, it really was a classy interview. Then, for Betr, Nick lists the Top 5 memorable moments from the 12th hole at Augusta...there are some absolute rippers!Feedback for Southern Golf Club is Masters centric this week: comments from you on 1986, on Rory from last year, The Shark in 86, Nick's results, and a great story from David in Brasil about Jack Nicklaus in 86, which Mark follows up with an amazing Golden Bear stat.Lots of results for Nick to run through in the PING Globals today....we divert slightly from them to hear a story of Nicks run-in with US Police, and how he got out of it....sneaky...And finally, Mark's Masterclass for Golf Clearance Outlet is on lag putting - when the greens are running hot, and there are undulating greens, lag putting is your friend. Nick and Mark discuss. We're live from Titleist and FootJoy HQ thanks to our great partners:Hostplus, Talk Birdie To Me's official retirement partnerBMW, luxury and comfort for the 19th hole;Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best;Golf Clearance Outlet, they beat everyone's prices;Betr, the fastest and easiest betting app in Australia; And Southern Golf Club. Justin Lee is the founder of Ay Papi, a California-based craft cannabis company focused on solventless, single-origin products made in collaboration with regenerative legacy cultivators. Before entering the cannabis industry, Justin worked in entertainment as an actor and producer, and competed as an MMA fighter. His path into cannabis was shaped by firsthand experience with injury, chronic pain, and recovery, which led him to explore cannabis not just recreationally, but as part of a broader, more intentional approach to health and wellbeing.Ay Papi operates without outside capital and rejects volume-driven models, tier systems, and artificial flavouring. In today's episode, I sit down with Joe Wessel—former Florida State safety and coach, author of White Fang and the Golden Bear, and someone who experienced Jack Nicklaus's life, leadership, and family values up close. Joe shares what truly separated Jack from the rest of the golf world: his innate athleticism, his unusual ability to make multiple in-swing adjustments, and—most importantly—his commitment to never letting his family become collateral damage on his path to greatness. We explore how single-minded drive can fuel extraordinary success or quietly destroy relationships, and how intentional priorities, time management, and communication allow you to be fully present both at work and at home. You'll walk away with powerful insights on leadership, family, legacy, and what it truly means to pursue excellence in golf, business, and life. In this episode, you'll learn: How Jack Nicklaus's intangibles, athleticism, and preparation created a different level of competitive advantage The difference between healthy single-minded focus and destructive obsession that destroys families How intentional time management and clear priorities allow you to be all-in at work and all-in at home Why perseverance after failure matters more than natural talent—on the field, in business, and on the course How to recognize the heroes already in your life and what that means for how you show up for your kids Why documenting your story—letters, journals, recordings—is one of the most powerful gifts you can give your family How faith, family, and purpose can become your north star for every decision you make in golf, business, and life Get your pencils ready and start listening. P.P.S. Curious to learn more about the results my clients are experiencing and what they say about working with me? Read more here. More About Joe Joe Wessel is a former Florida State walk-on who became a special teams All-American, then spent 13 years coaching at the highest levels of college and professional football, including stints at LSU, Notre Dame, Cincinnati, and with the Philadelphia Eagles. After leaving coaching, he built a successful career in banking and leadership, where he's known as much for his mentoring and "overpaid psychologist" role as for his business results. Joe is the author of "White Fang and the Golden Bear," a powerful story that weaves together his relationship with his father, his time rooming with Jack Nicklaus's son Steve at Florida State, and the lessons he learned watching Jack compete, lead, and prioritize family. His work sits at the intersection of faith, family, leadership, and high performance—on the field, in business, and at home. Instagram: @thegolfhypnotherapist Key Takeaways: Some advantages are innate, but preparation, athleticism, and awareness are levers we can all train. Single-minded drive is powerful—until it turns your family into collateral damage. Time management is value management: if family isn't on the calendar, it won't happen. You don't need to be the smartest person in the room; you need to lead, delegate, and serve. Perseverance after failure can rewrite your story more than any early success ever will. Your greatest hero might already be in your house—often a parent quietly living their values. Faith and family can anchor you so deeply that success becomes an extension—not a replacement—of what matters most. Key Quotes: "Some people are just born able to see things others can't—but everyone can choose how prepared they are." "He wasn't going to let his family be the sacrificial lamb of his success." "I don't have to be the smartest person in the room—I just have to help people do what they need to do." "If your need is to satisfy your wife and your family with your time, you're going to make that happen." "My hero wasn't a famous coach or athlete—my hero was the man I lived with every day: my father." "If you don't tell your story and write it down, it's not going to get passed to the people who need to hear it." "Faith and family get you down the middle of the fairway and a birdie every time." The Elite Four: Ranking the Most Legendary College Football Players to Wear Jersey Number 4IntroductionIn the brutal, high-stakes world of college football, a jersey number is more than just an identifier—it's a symbol. Some numbers are synonymous with brute force; others, with sheer speed. But the number 4? Among all numbers, it stands out for being worn by elite difference-makers. This article will rank the top four most legendary college football players to ever wear number 4, examining how they rose above fierce competition to set the standard for greatness. Prepare to explore the storied careers of the gridiron giants who made this simple digit a symbol of college football royalty.Significant Jersey Number 4 WearersChamp Baileywas a rare two-way superstar at the University of Georgia, excelling as a cornerback and wide receiver and even playing on special teams. He was recognized as a consensus All-American in 1998 and earned the Bronko Nagurski Trophy as the nation's best defensive player before becoming a top-ten NFL Draft pick.Steve Walsh was one of the most accomplished quarterbacks in University of Miami history during the late 1980s. As the Hurricanes' starter in 1988, he led the team to an undefeated season and a national championship, earning consensus All-American honors in the process. Walsh also finished fourth in the Heisman Trophy voting that year and was a finalist for the Maxwell and Davey O'Brien Awards, cementing his legacy as an elite college football player.QuarterbackJim Harbaugh starred for Michigan, finishing third in 1986 Heisman voting and setting the school's passing efficiency record while wearing No. 4.Terence Newman -As a dominant cornerback for Kansas State, Terence Newman was recognized as the nation's top defensive back, earning the prestigious Jim Thorpe Award and unanimous first-team All-American honors in 2002.Russell White's three-season stretch at UC Berkeley from 1990 to 1992 remains one of the most prolific eras in Cal football history as a jersey 4 wearer. After arriving with massive expectations as a high school phenom, White immediately lived up to the hype, becoming the centerpiece of a Golden Bears resurgence that included a dominant 1991 season and a Citrus Bowl victory. A three-time first-team All-Pac-10 selection, White was a master of the "big play," utilizing elite vision and explosive speed to become Cal's all-time leading rusher with 3,360 yards—a record that stood for 15 years. His 1991 campaign was particularly legendary, as he racked up over 1,100 yards and earned second-team All-America honors, cementing his legacy as arguably the greatest pure runner to ever wear the blue and gold. (Big thanks to this suggestion by YouTube viewer @pallen1065)Deshaun Watson (Clemson): Wearing jersey 4 was a special honor, as former Tiger legend Steve Fuller allowed Clemson to un-retire the number specifically for Watson. Watson became a Clemson icon by leading the Tigers to their first national championship since 1981, capping his career with a dramatic victory over Alabama in 2017. During his prolific tenure, he achieved a stunning 32-3 record as a starter while accumulating over 10,000 passing yards and 161 total touchdowns.Dalvin Cook (Florida State):An electrifying running back who wore #4 despite it often being a QB number, breaking records for the Seminoles. Cook was one of the most accomplished running backs inFlorida State Seminoles history. During his collegiate career, he earned consensus All-American honors and was a Heisman Trophy finalist in 2016 after leading the nation in yards from scrimmage. Cook also won the Jim Brown Award as the nation's top running back and set multiple school records, including career rushing...
The latest episode of Hawaiʻi Football Final, a Hawaiʻi Sports 2Night production, looked back at one of the most memorable moments in University of Hawaiʻi football history, a comeback for the ages in the 22nd Hawaiʻi Bowl.KHON2 Sports Director Rob DeMello was joined by Rainbow Warriors senior offensive lineman and co-captain Zhen Sotelo as the show revisited Hawaiʻi's 35-31 victory over California on Christmas Eve, a nationally televised thriller that capped an unforgettable season in Mānoa.Hawaiʻi trailed 21-0 in the first half before digging deep across all three phases to mount a stunning rally. Freshman quarterback Micah Alejado, named Mountain West Freshman of the Year, played through heavy contact to throw for 274 yards and three touchdowns. Hawaiʻi Bowl MVP Pofele Ashlock hauled in 14 receptions for 123 yards and two scores as the Warriors outscored the Golden Bears 35-10 down the stretch. The defining moment came with 15 seconds remaining. Trailing by three, Hawaiʻi faced sudden adversity when Alejado was knocked out of the game after a late hit. Backup quarterback Luke Weaver was called upon to deliver in the game's biggest moment, and did just that, dropping a 22-yard go-ahead touchdown pass to senior receiver Nick Cenacle. The play, quickly etched into Hawaiʻi football lore, sealed the Warriors' first Hawaiʻi Bowl victory since 2010 and completed a comeback that will be remembered among the program's greatest moments.Head coach Timmy Chang, in his fourth season, closed out a 9-4 campaign that saw Hawaiʻi bookend the year with wins over ACC opponents Stanford and California, further signaling the program's resurgence under his leadership. On Hawaiʻi Football Final, DeMello and Sotelo reflected on the emotional weight of the victory, the belief inside the locker room while trailing by three touchdowns, and the confidence the team had in Weaver when he stepped into the huddle for the final play. The episode also featured the “HFF Mailbox” segment, answering viewer-submitted questions, and looked ahead to what's next for the Rainbow Warriors following a season that reignited excitement around Hawaiʻi football.Hawaiʻi Football Final premieres every Sunday at 7 p.m. on the KHON+ app, available on Apple TV, Roku and Firestick. A television rebroadcast airs Tuesdays at 9:30 p.m. on KHON2.

When Archie Griffin won his unprecedented 2nd Heisman Trophy Award in 1975 he was heralded as the best running back in the nation. But was he? Finishing 2nd in the voting was a beast out west by the name of Chuck Muncie and the senior Golden Bear was putting up huge numbers in Berkeley. In fact, in 17 fewer rushing attempts than Griffin, Chuck had 103 more yards rushing and 9 more TD's. Add in the 26 more receptions and 234 more yards receiving than the Buckeyes Back and you could make a strong case that Muncie, the guy on the cover of the 11/24/75 issue of Sports Illustrated, should have come home with the Heisman hardware. At the next level, Muncie continued to excel becoming a 3-time Pro Bowl back in the NFL with his best season coming in 1981 when he had over 1,500 yards from scrimmage and 19 touchdowns in the high-powered offense in San Diego. The Chargers were loaded with offensive weapons: Muncie and James Brooks in the backfield with John Jefferson, Charlie Joiner, Wes Chandler and Kellen Winslow catching everything in sight. Muncie passed away in May of 2013 but the man who ran that “Air Coryell” offense Dan Fouts joins us on the POP podcast to talk about how good a back and what a weapon Muncie was while playing with the Chargers. Fouts discusses the famous playoff shootout in Miami, known as the Kellen Winslow game. A game in which the Hall of Fame QB threw for 433 yards, and 3 touchdowns in the 41-38 San Diego overtime victory over Miami. Fouts recalls how the next week he and his team suffered through frigid temps in Cincinnati and how the lingering effects of frost bite have been in his hands ever since. And he talks about being part of possibly the best Hall of Fame class (1993) of all-time: Larry Little, Bill Walsh, Chuck Noll, Walter Payton and Dan Fouts! One of the greatest QB's to ever sling it in the NFL looks back on his Hall of Fame career and gives an in depth look at SI caveman and his former teammate Chuck Muncie on the Past Our Prime podcast. Send us a textA putter on a garage shelf became a doorway to memory, legacy, and what it means to lead at home. Coach and author Joe Wessel joins us to trace a winding path from a disciplined Miami childhood and Catholic schools to a walk-on grind at Florida State, summers learning from Miami Dolphins legends, and the day Jack Nicklaus confirmed the “lost” blade in Joe's bag was White Fang—the putter that won the 1967 U.S. Open. Instead of asking for a shiny new set, Joe asked for something better: a father–son round at Augusta. We talk about what built him: a mother who showed up at every game, a father who enforced persistence and faith, and a military prep school that hardened habits after loss. Joe shares the reality of earning a scholarship the hard way, becoming a special teams difference-maker, and absorbing leadership from many mentors in his life. The athletic details are rich—technique, timing, depth charts—but the bigger arc lands on fatherhood: discovering that the hero you searched for might have been at your own dinner table all along.Parents and coaches will find practical wisdom here: don't specialize your kids at 10, grow athletes, not resumes, protect the joy of play, and let your children write their own story. Say I'm sorry. Say I love you. Keep faith as a daily practice, not a performance. We close with the heart of Joe's book, White Fang and the Golden Bear—a father–son journey that culminates at Augusta and proves that the best trophies are moments shared.
