James Lawrence has broken two Guiness World Records for endurance racing. He raced a full distance triathlon every day for 100 consecutive days and prior to that he raced 50 full distance triathlons for 50 consecutive days across 50 states. His latest book is titled Iron Hope: Lessons Learned from Conquering the Impossible. Summary In this conversation, endurance athlete James Lawrence shares his incredible journey of overcoming fear, pushing through pain, and achieving remarkable feats in his triathlon quest. He discusses a life-altering bike crash, the mental strategies he employs to manage fear and pain, and the importance of focusing on the present moment. Lawrence reflects on his transition from a mortgage broker to a world record-holding athlete, driven by a desire to raise awareness for important causes. He emphasizes the power of resilience, positive self-talk, and finding flow in endurance challenges, while also addressing the balance between planning and spontaneity in life. In this conversation, the they delve into the themes of conquering fear, the importance of community support, mental agility in endurance training, and the significance of a 'day one' mentality. They discuss how breaking down large goals into manageable pieces can help alleviate anxiety and how the support of a community can inspire individuals to push through challenges. The conversation also touches on the role of experience in building mental toughness and the importance of having role models for inspiration. Ultimately, James emphasizes the art of excellence as a consistent effort towards authenticity and personal growth.   Takeaways Fear often stems from worrying about the future. Focusing on the present can eliminate fear. Accidents can happen unexpectedly but resilience is key. Emotions like fear and anger can be managed through self-talk. Life can take unexpected turns, leading to new paths. Setting big goals requires breaking them down into manageable tasks. The mind and body must work together to overcome challenges. Positive self-talk can help manage pain and anxiety. Experiences build resilience and mental strength over time. Finding flow can enhance performance and reduce suffering. Fear is often about worrying about the future. Breaking down big goals into smaller pieces helps manage fear. Success breeds success and confidence breeds confidence. Community support can inspire and motivate individuals. Experiencing challenges builds mental toughness. The 'day one' mentality encourages enthusiasm and optimism. Living each day as if it were your last can change your perspective. Role models can provide inspiration and guidance. Consistency over time leads to excellence. You must experience challenges to grow and learn. Jack Tame: Highs and lows of parenting

It was Murphy's Law, of course. An inevitable that'll-teach-ya for breaking one of the golden laws of parenting: never take off a nappy if you don't have a replacement immediately to hand. Especially when your six-week-old baby has been stewing and straining and writhing in his cot. And double-especially (that's a thing) when he just had the live rotavirus vaccine and it's playing havoc with his belly. It was just as I bent his legs up and put a little squeeze on his stomach that I sensed it. Something in the air. A drop in barometric pressure. A little facial expression, perhaps. It might have been 2am but I threw myself back and across the room, out of the line of fire. It was like that scene in The Matrix, where time stops and Neo dodges bullets. You know in a horror movie when someone has their throat slit, and the blood sprays on the wall? It's a pattern, an arc, a kind of parabola of crimson gore. It was like that. Except yellow. An explosion of you-know-what was in his tummy one second, and literally dripping down the wall the next. And the bin. And on the laundry basket, the exposed floorboards and the corner of the chunky woolknit carpet. Somehow, he got it through the crack of the door to my wardrobe, a patina of tiny little specks down on my shoes. The distance he covered was unbelievable. I actually pulled out a tape measure the next morning... from the change table to the wall was 90-odd centimetres: twice his height. In relative terms, it's as if I pulled, twisted, and strained and pulled up my legs and propelled my last meal across three and a half metres of open territory. Guiness World Records, give us a call! I hosed him down, delivered him to his mum, fetched the disinfectant and started scrubbing the walls. The next morning, I put him on the change table again. This time he wasn't squirming. His tummy was a bit more settled. As I re-dressed him and pulled on his onesie, I sang to my son, and he stared up into my eyes. “It's our problem freeeee,” I sang. His face changed just a little as he cooed... was that a smile? “Philosophyyyyy,” he squealed. “Hakuna Matata,” his little mouth broke out in a giant smile. No question. An unmistakable smile. His whole face, his whole body seemed to smile with him. Just for me. I felt my chest flood with endorphins. It was the craziest physical reaction, just this rush, this sweep of joy and love. It said it all, really. Dripping walls one days and his first smiles for Dad the next. Welcome to parenting.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Fáilte ar ais chuig eagrán nua de Ar An Lá Seo ar an 20ú lá de mí na Nollaig, liomsa Lauren Ní Loingsigh. I 1973 d'oscail Carol Simpson buama beartáin in aice leis an óstán Hilton I Londain – agus mhair sí an phléasc. Fuair sí sreang isteach ann chomh maith le huaireadóir, chaith sí an beart agus rith sí ó roimh ar phléasc sé. I 2015 phós imreoir peile Frank Lampard. Phós sé a cailín Christine Bleakley a bhí mar láithreoir teilifís ag an am I Londain. I 1980 fuair Niamh Dinan ó Inis iontráil sa Young Scientists Exhibition lena tionscnamh 'A study of selected birds'. Bhí sí dalta I gColáiste Mhuire. I 2015 bhí an phobal in Inis ag iarradh Guiness World Record a bhriseadh. An ceann a bhí siad ag iarradh bhriseadh ná an Irish Christmas Tree Throwing Championship. Dúirt siad gur chuaigh an t-airgead go léir chuig an West Clare Mini-Marathon Cancer Centre. Sin Slade le Merry Christmas Everybody – an t-amhrán is mó ar an lá seo I 1973 . Ag lean ar aghaidh le nuacht cheoil ar an lá seo I 1980, 12 lá tar éis a mharaíodh John Lennon I Nua Eabhrac, chuaigh a amhrán chuig uimhir a haon sa Bhreatain. Chuaigh amhrán John Lennon 'Just Like Starting Over' chuig uimhir a haon – agus bhí sé a chéad singil a shroich uimhir a haon. I 2006 fuair Eminem colscaradh don dara huair. D'aontaigh siad chun cúram a roinnt lena iníon Hailie. Phós an chúpla arís ach rinne Eminem iarratas ar cholscaradh trí mhí tar éis. Agus ar deireadh breithlá daoine cáiliúla ar an lá seo rugadh imreoir saccair Kylian Mbappe sa Fhrainc I 1998 agus rugadh aisteoir Jonah Hill I Meiriceá I 1983 agus seo chuid de na rudaí a rinne sé. Then, Dom welcomes Growing Pains star Kirk Cameron, who's now an author of a line of amazingly beneficial children's books for Brave Books. In the books, Cameron uses faith and God to lay forth great stories for children, offering moral lessons similar to the ones that have made Cameron the man he is today. Those morals and beliefs, rooted largely in Christianity, have somehow become offensive to some in today's society, leading to a complete shunning by the Guinness Book of World Records as he sets record breaking crowds with his See You At The Library book-reading events, clearly unseating a recent Drag Queen Story Hour here in Philadelphia. Cameron explains why faith is so important to him, the pushback he's faced both here and in Hollywood for being so open about his beliefs, and previews his upcoming book Born to Be Brave. Well, we're smack dab in the middle of the week and the heat hell certainly has not ceased. The same can also be said for Angi's bad attitude but that is something that never seems to cease when it comes to this show. Since Angi has guests coming in today for Lollapalooza, she needed to get a fight out of her system and she had the perfect excuse to jump into one. Now, I should offer up that she did open this with "Am I the A-hole" and that she hates when a dumb disagreement turns into a nuclear fight that goes off the rails. Just because I'm stating this here doesn't mean I believe what she is saying but I have to give proper dictation of what occurred on the show this morning. Anyway, while watching the Olympics with eternally suffering Jay the Straight yesterday, he casually mentioned offhand how Lebron James is the GOAT. Angi, known Michael Jordan stan, was quick to disagree. However, this kicked off the perfect condition for an Angi Taylor Ring of Fire. Further fueling this gasoline covered rage was Jay the Straight explaining how great Lebron is for starting a bunch of school. Angi the Untrusting added that the whole thing is a money grab like the Kanye schools or every church ever. With the fuse lit and burning away, the fight was on and Angi went off. With the wanna fight, let's fight mentality strong, she immediately jumped on the gas lighting train because she was feeling froggy. Perhaps all those comments I made about her being an Ozempig yesterday didn't help but she went crazy (nothing new there.) This led to a discussion about a woman talking about being on her period and figuring it was a good day to start a fight with her husband because she was feeling it (I get that, starting fights when in a bad mood makes sense.) Obviously, now that cooler heads have prevailed, Angi is admitting that she was wrong and she was sorry but that had to be done on the show because we all know Jay the Straight doesn't listen to this mess. I think this was also partially inspired by Angi seeing old people kicking each other on the beach in the water with the sentiment "how many sorrys in a lifetime?" (In this relationship, I think the two of them are aiming for some type of Guiness World Record.) With a little more consideration, Angi added she may say sorry in person and she probably should because when she was in bed, she sent a "bunch" of texts including "going to wake up mad." "We'll be fine" was Jay's response and well, from this segment, clearly the answer is they're not.

In episode 158, we're excited to welcome Jimi Cohen, Founder of Treegens, a community on a mission to build a world where anyone can plant trees & get rewarded. Another fun fact about Jimi, is that he recently set a Guiness World Record for most trees planted in 24 hours by a single individual, with over 30,000! In our chat we discuss how Web3 can help coordinate tree planters all over the world to plant hundred of millions of trees, how blockchain can improve monitoring, reporting, and verification in tree planting efforts, growing the regen movement, and much more.--Three Key Takeaways--Mangroves absorb about 8-10x more carbon from the atmosphere than old terrestrial forests and are efficient to plant, making than an ideal fit for tree planting and decarbonizing efforts. This is why Treegens has primarily focused on mangrove trees for their tree planting efforts, including Jimi's Guiness World Record attempt.Decentralized, permissionless tree planting is much more scalable than centralized tree planting, as anyone can support it, and anyone can be rewarded. In one of the communities Jimi has worked in, some of the locals are paid two days a year to plant trees, or simply volunteer their time. Platforms like Treegens, leveraging Web3 primitives, can create an environment where these individuals can turn tree planting into a full-time job where they are consistently rewarded for their efforts. If an individual's first experience with Web3 is being rewarded and receiving crypto for positive impact, it can be a very powerful tool for onboarding individuals and communities to Web3.--Full shownotes with links available at--https://www.cryptoaltruism.org/blog/crypto-altruism-podcast-episode-158-treegens-decentralized-permissionless-tree-planting-with-world-record-tree-planter-jimi-cohen--Support us with a Fiat or Crypto contribution--Learn more at cryptoaltruism.org/supportus--DISCLAIMER --While we may discuss specific web3 projects or cryptocurrencies on this podcast, please do not take any of this as investment advice, and please make sure to do your own research on potential investment opportunities, or any opportunity. It's Tuesday, April 30th, A.D. 2024. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus.  (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Kevin Swanson TikTok bans around the globe TikTok bans are spreading. India banned the app in 2020. Nepal did so last November as well as Afghanistan and Iran among others. As of last week, the U.S. government moved to ban TikTok within a year unless the app is sold. America has the most TikTok users of any country in the world — estimated to be between 135 and 170 million users.  Trump beating Biden in polls – especially with third party candidates CNN is reporting that Donald Trump is well ahead in the 2024 presidential race. The news agency's recent poll puts the former president ahead 49%-43%.  When third party candidates -- like Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., People's Party Cornel West, and Libertarian Dr. Jill Stein -- are put into the mix, Trump is ahead 42% to 33%.  Kennedy is at 16%, West is at 4%, and Stein is at 3%. The same CNN poll found that only 39% of voters see the Biden presidency as a success, while 55% consider the previous Trump presidency a success. American taxpayers send billions to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan Another $61 billion has been assigned in the recent U.S. spending bill for the Ukrainian war against Russia. Thus far, the U.S. has underwritten $72 billion in Ukrainian aid. In addition, the European Union has spent about $107 billion on the war over the last two years. That accounts for about 30 times Ukraine's annual military budget. Israel is also slated to receive $14 billion of the package — a sizable increase from the average of $4 billion per year given to Israel over the last 20 years. Israel's military budget has averaged around $23 billion per year.   The $95 billion foreign aid package, signed by President Biden last week, represents a sizable increase from the $45 billion of foreign aid handed out in 2020. The package is intended to support American allies of Ukraine, Taiwan, and Israel against Russia, China, and Hamas. Taylor Swift's new album: explicit, blasphemous, and anti-Christian In pop culture news, Taylor Swift's Tortured Poet's Department album made almost a billion album streams last week, breaking all previous records. That included almost two million vinyl, cassettes, and CD sales. Adele still holds the top spot for most records sold in one week. However, six out of the top fifteen album sales of all time belong to Taylor Swift. The Christian Post notes that 11 of the 31 songs contain an "E" under the album's description listing, which stands for "explicit." Shane Pruitt, the Southern Baptist Next Gen director, was upset that Swift mocks God and Christians. He asked, "As Christians, who are filled with the Spirit, should we be entertained by, sing with, and expose our kids to lyrics that aren't just different than what you believe, but are actually mocking what you believe?" Southern Baptist pastors more conservative than laity There is a major disconnect between Southern Baptist pastors and the laity. That's the conclusion of a Lifeway survey conducted earlier this year.   In fact, 62% of key leaders believe America has become a secular nation, but only 11% of the laity hold that position. In addition, 80% of the leaders surveyed consider themselves conservative, while only 56% of the church attendees would claim the label. And seven times the percentage of the laity would call themselves liberal, as compared to the Southern Baptist pastors.  Catholic and Mainline Protestant pastors more liberal than laity By contrast, research has found that Catholics and mainline Protestant denominations show an opposite trend. For example, 49% of Catholic laity voted for Donald Trump in the 2016 elections, while only 24% of Catholic clergy voted for the Republican candidate. About the same ratios applied to mainline Protestants. Plummeting U.S. fertility rate America's fertility rate fell once more in 2023. It's now well below the replacement rate at 1.62 children per woman in this country, according to the Centers for Disease Control.  That's the lowest level in U.S. history. Not surprisingly, states with slightly higher birth rates are Republican — North Dakota, Nebraska, Louisiana, Utah, and Texas. Lowest birth rates occur in Democrat-controlled states, reports LifeSiteNews.com. We are warned in Deuteronomy 28:15, 18-19 -- “But if you will not obey the voice of the Lord your God or be careful to do all His commandments and His statutes. … Cursed shall be the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your ground, the increase of your herds and the young of your flock. Cursed shall you be when you come in, and cursed shall you be when you go out.” Guiness World Record-setting pastor for serving 74 years A pastor who held the Guiness Book of World Records for pastoring in the same church the longest has died at 94 years of age.   Since the year 1950, Pastor D.N. Benford Sr. served almost 74 years at Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church in Texas City, Texas. Chuck Norris honors his 103-year-old mother And finally, actor and martial arts expert Chuck Norris shared a tribute to his 103-year-old mother this week on WorldNetDaily.com.   She raised three boys as a single mom, and prayed for Chuck his whole life — especially that he wouldn't lose his soul to Hollywood. Wilma Norris Knights' best advice to her son and the rest of us is: “Don't be surprised by fiery trials.  Don't worry. Trust God.  Live within your means.  And seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness.”  That's Matthew 6:33.
