Pastor Austin Gilliland Proverbs 4:23
Dr. Charles Bridges, the CSO at CorVista Health, has developed a cardiovascular diagnostic platform that uses a simple device to collect various heart signals. The platform then sends that data to the cloud for fast machine learning-based analytics, which can detect conditions like pulmonary hypertension and coronary artery diseases. This test can be given at the point of care and is significant, as these conditions are frequently under-diagnosed due to a lack of accessible testing. Charles explains, "It's really an amazing breakthrough. Yes, it's a very simple device from the point of view that it's about the size of an iPad. It requires that you connect seven electrodes to the patient. An electrode is identical to what they put on your chest when you get an electrocardiogram, an EKG, and a PPG sensor on the finger. Those of us who made it through COVID-19 probably learned a little about PPG sensors because those we use to measure your arterial oxygen saturation and the most severe cases of COVID-19 were associated with a reduction in that. So it's always reassuring to see that yours was 98%, for example, which would be normal, but we're not using that sensor to measure oxygen saturation. We're measuring the raw light signals, the red and infrared light signals." "As we do for the electrical signals we measure, we apply very sophisticated mathematics to those 10 million data points we derive. And we get that all in about three minutes and we send those in a very secure fashion to the cloud." "To summarize that, the CorVista device, while the patient is still in the office, gives the doctor a report in about 15 minutes, both about pulmonary hypertension and about coronary artery disease, which are comparable and, in some cases, arguably more accurate than the standard of care for those two diseases." #CorVistaSystem #CorVistaHealth #CardiovascularCare #Cardiology #CardioDiagnostics #HeartHealthInnovation #NonInvasiveDiagnosis #MedicalDevice #MedTech #Diagnostics #PointOfCareSolutions #ML #DigitalCardiology #HealthEquity #HealthcareAccess #CardiologyDesert #PulmonaryHypertension #CoronaryArteryDisease #CardiovascularDisease corvista.com Listen to the podcast here

Can you imagine having to be resuscitated and how traumatic an experience it must be? Now imagine what it is like to be resuscitated 32 times...as a baby? One man who knows what that is like is Michael Teehan, because he lived through it. Michael, a native of Clare who now lives in Dublin, was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect shortly after birth. Heart Children, the national charity supporting children and young people with congenital heart disease (CHD), will host its annual conference, The Beat Goes On, on Saturday February 22 in Dublin, as part of Global Congenital Heart Disease Awareness Month. The Beat Goes On conference is aimed at Ireland's 19,000 young people and adults living with CHD, as well as parents. To find out more, Alan Morrissey was joined by the Secretary of Heart Children, Michael Teehan. Photo (C): stu teehan

Robert William Hoskins, actor, born 26 October 1942; died 29 April 2014.It didn't matter that this guy—who left school at 15 to become a bouncer, porter, window cleaner, and fire-eater—went on to become ridiculously famous. He was always down-to-earth: "Actors are just entertainers, even the serious ones. That's all an actor is. He's like a serious Bruce Forsyth."Hoskins could play serious and scary, then turn on a dime to reveal sweetness and a big heart.A chance audition led him to the theatre, which opened the door to roles in BBC dramas and a beloved ad for British Telecom, where he delivered the catchphrase "It's good to talk." Around that time, Francis Ford Coppola cast him in The Cotton Club (1984), and suddenly he was in movies. Brazil followed, then Sweet Liberty, his Oscar-nominated turn as an ex-con in Mona Lisa, the blockbuster Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Heart Condition, Mermaids, Hook, and Oliver Stone's Nixon, where he played J. Edgar Hoover."You don't go to Hollywood for art," he said in 1999. "And once you've got your fame and fortune—especially the fortune in the bank—you can do what you want to do. It's basically f**k-you money."In 2012, at 69, he announced his retirement after being diagnosed with Parkinson's. Two years later, he died from pneumonia.Miss you, Bob Hoskins. When Jesus was on the earth, the most common way he talked was with parables. He would use these story tools to parallel a physical truth to a spiritual one. One parable Jesus told was given great importance by Jesus, as he described it as being the keystone to understanding the kingdom of God. This is the parable of the sower. We are all familiar with this story and the description of different ground types' reception to seed being cast. Each of these examples describe the way in which the gospel may be received by listeners. We should strive to be the receptive soil that earnestly hears God's word and prospers.

He shares how a simple quarantine hobby has turned into not only a source of income, but a true passion and something that he loves to do. We talk all about the challenges of content creation and the importance of consistency and perseverance in order to grow in the world of content creation. Julian also details what he thinks the future of content creation in the world of running is going to look like. Julian and I also dive into his personal journey in the sport of running. Simply put, Julian was an absolute stud in high school. But he opens up about how that all came to a pause when he learned he had an extremely rare heart condition, being only one of two people in the Los Angeles County to be diagnosed with it. There are a lot of parallels in the lessons that are important in content creation as well as in the sport of running. Lessons like consistency, hard work, perseverance, and just flat out never giving up are traits that not only help content creators, but will also bring your running to the next level. If you are looking for an inspirational, insightful, and motivational conversation all packed into one, this one is for you. Don't miss out on the Julian Guinane Special!

Ever wonder how someone can maintain a healthy lifestyle yet still face severe heart issues? Join me as I unpack Mary McDonald's gripping journey through hereditary heart disease, starting with her struggles with high blood pressure. Despite her best efforts to stay healthy, Mary's initial disregard for medical advice led to severe complications, including a wake-up call from foot surgery. This episode underscores the crucial lesson of heeding medical guidance when hereditary caardiac conditions are in play. Through a rollercoaster of diagnoses and treatments, Mary's story takes us deep into the labyrinth of heart disease diagnostics. After facing conflicting advice and even a suggestion to consult a psychiatrist, Mary's persistence led her to explore treatments at Stanford. Her tale of moderate heart valve regurgitation and a myocardial bridge reveals the challenges of being misunderstood by the medical community and the importance of self-advocacy and finding a supportive medical team. Then, travel with Mary to Greece, where she underwent "unroofing" heart surgery and received exemplary care from Dr. Kofidis and Dr. Patakos at Hygia Hospital. Her detailed account compares the medical care in Greece to that in the U.S., offering insights into her recovery journey, including overcoming severe back pain and managing osteoporosis. Ending on a high note, Mary's resilience shines through as she shares her marathon ambitions and renewed passion for flying. This episode is a testament to the power of perseverance, optimism, and self-advocacy in the face of the uncertainty of cardiac health challenges. Case Synopsis FH, a 9-year-old female with no previous medical history, recently moved back to the US from Iraq. She presented to establish care and discuss new-onset chest pain and dyspnea. A systolic ejection murmur was noted during her initial visit to the pediatrician, prompting cholesterol testing and a cardiology referral. Testing revealed, alarming cholesterol levels (Total Cholesterol: 802 mg/dL, LDL: 731 mg/dL, Triglycerides: 123 mg/dL) prompted concern for cardiac involvement. Due to persistent symptoms, FH was transferred to Children's Hospital of Michigan. Despite normal findings on EKG and chest x-ray, a 2/6 systolic murmur was noted. She was discharged with a cardiology clinic follow-up. However, two days later, FH experienced severe chest pain at rest, sweating, and difficulty breathing. She was transported to Children's Hospital again, and her troponin level measured 3000, and her total cholesterol was 695 mg/dL. An echocardiogram revealed valvar and supravalvar aortic stenosis, necessitating collaboration between Pediatric and Adult cardiology teams. CTA thorax revealed severe supravalvular stenosis, a hypoplastic right coronary artery, and significant coronary artery obstructions. Diagnostic cardiac catheterization confirmed severe aortic stenosis and coronary artery disease, leading to the decision for surgical intervention. FH underwent the Ross operation, left main coronary artery augmentation, and right coronary artery reimplantation. Intraoperatively, atherosclerotic plaques were observed in multiple cardiac structures. FH's recovery was uneventful, discharged on a regimen including Atorvastatin, Ezetimibe, evolocumab, and antiplatelet therapy. Persistent high LDL levels required regular plasmapheresis. Plans for evaluations in Genetics, Lipid Clinic, Endocrine, and Gastroenterology were made, potentially leading to a liver transplant assessment. Given the severity of her condition, a heart/liver transplant might be considered in the future. Conclusion: This case of FH highlights the complex presentation of severe aortic stenosis and coronary artery disease in a pediatric patient. Urgent diagnosis, interdisciplinary collaboration, and aggressive management were crucial. The case underscores the importance of comprehensive care for pediatric patients with rare cardiac conditions, emphasizing collaboration between specialties for optimal outcomes and long-term well-being. Case Media Pearls - Familial Hypercholesterolemia Mutations in LDLR, ApoB, or PCSK9 genes disrupt LDL-C clearance, leading to a cascade of events culminating in accelerated atherosclerosis and early-onset cardiovascular complications (e.g., CAD, aortic stenosis, PAD, stroke).
