Andie and Angie explore the fascinating subtypes of parenting and uncover some hilarious truths along the way. First up, the infamous Helicopter Mom who soars above her kids, ready to swoop in and save the day at a moment's notice. Watch out, world, because nothing escapes her watchful eye! Next, the Mama Bear is the fierce protector who will go to battle for her cubs. Don't mess with her kids unless you want to face the wrath of this mighty mama. Andie and Angie laugh about the one and only Helicopter Bear Mom subtype they created in the previous episode. Yes, you heard that right, they combined the best of both parenting subtypes. A Helicopter Bear is a hybrid of the Helicopter Mom and Mama Bear, bringing a whole new level of hovering and protectiveness. The hilarious examples of a Helicopter Bear will have you laughing out loud! And let's not forget the Crunchy and Granola Moms. These earth-loving mamas embrace all things natural, from making organic baby food to cloth diapers. Some moms proudly wear the title of Granola Mom, while others prefer to be called a Crunchy Mom. Sometimes it can seem like a competition for healthy snacks and eco-friendly toys. Andie and Angie also talk about the Lawnmower/Snowplow Moms. Buckle up, moms, and get ready for a laughter-filled ride as Andie and Angie celebrate the colorful spectrum of parenting styles. Tune in to share the joys, challenges, and endless laughter of being a mom.
In this episode, Andie and Angie take a hilarious trip through the world of parenting styles! First things first, there's no one-size-fits-all approach to parenting. Obviously, a mother's love for her children is at the heart of parenting. It's always best to parent the way that's best for your children and family. Parenting styles are influenced by so many different things, including the way you wish your parents parented you. Most moms parent from their own past experiences as children, and for the world they are sending their children into. Andie and Angie dive into the main 4 parenting types which are: authoritative, authoritarian, permissive, and uninvolved/neglectful. They also unveil a brand-new parenting style that will have you laughing out loud. Introducing... drumroll... Helicopter Bears! That's right, they combine the hovering nature of a Helicopter Mom with the protective Mama Bear. It's a whole new level of protection and snuggles! Parenting is always changing and evolving since humans are constantly changing and evolving. Remember, there's no such thing as the perfect mom. Everyone is just figuring it out as they go, armed with love and laughter. So, join Andie and Angie for a hilarious and heartwarming discussion on the joys and challenges of different parenting styles.

Are you a helicopter mama and you don't even know it? Is your most infamous line, “Be careful!” (okay, mine is too…). Is it hard to let your kids take risks, make mistakes, figure out their problems on their own? I brought Susan Landers back on today to share what we need to know as we raise a family and keep up a career, and we're also going to touch on some tips to overcoming being a helicopter parent. Any of you labeled as that? I'm sure my kids think I am. It's a hard balance, isn't it? But if we want to raise responsible and independent adults, we also need to learn how to hold our children loosely and not helicopter over their every move. How do we do this?
Have you ever heard the term "Helicopter Mom?" If you're not familiar, a helicopter Mom is a parent who pays extremely close attention to a child's or children's experiences and problems, particularly at educational institutions. Helicopter parents are so named because, like helicopters, they "hover overhead", overseeing every aspect of their child's life constantly. This is a huge stressor not only for the Mom, but also the child. In today's episode, Dr. Leslie provides insight into how Helicopter Moms operate and what to do if you're a recovering Helicopter Mom. Connect with us: www.drleslieinspires.com

Today, you'll learn why I am such a HELICOPTER MOM. If you want to judge me... you might want to listen to this episode first. 2 boys went to a playground in Harlem in 1989. Christopher in May and Shane in August. Both were seen playing one second and the next second- they had vanished. It's been 31 years and to this day there are NO BODIES, NO LEADS & NO ANSWERS. Sorry folks, not much comedic relief in this episode. But when it comes to kids- I like to stick to the facts. Wanna know what I wish? That people would stop kidnapping and harming children so I'd NEVER have to cover another case. MY CHRISTMAS WISH IS TO RUN OUT OF CONTENT because that would mean the world is a better place.

It doesn't matter how close we watch our kids, accidents happen. Yup, even to the helicopter moms. Today, we talk about how our kids have taken us by surprised even when they are right under our nose. We talk mindset shifts in how to create space for your kids to explore while keeping them safe.... at least as safe as we can. We talk mom shame, guilt, and how passing blame can wreck a marriage. Disclaimer: I talk about locking my kids out of the house... it was only the big kids. I don't recommend locking a baby outside. Just don't do it. When you ask the question, could my kid die? Don't do it. If they may scrape their knee... let them go! Moral of the story... Put the helmet on! But you eventually have to take off the training wheels & let them fall. Either way, accidents happen, stop beating yourself up when they do. Motherhood is not for the faint at heart... I get it! Show notes: www.terawages.com/005 Follow me: www.instagram.com/terawages

Kendra Dahlstrom [Mom's Success Coach/20+ years consultant to Fortune 500 companies] joins Pastor Tom to talk about "Mom Guilt" and several other topics applicable to moms. ------------------------------------------- MORE from Kendra: Kendra's WEBSITE ------------------------------------------- MORE from Pastor Tom: 24Today.org TomWhitesel.com 24TODAY PODCAST FACEBOOK 24Today YouTube Interviews -------------------------------------------- 24TODAY Podcast Notes: "Mom Guilt" (with Kendra Dahlstrom) “Mompreneur" - a mom who wants to create her own business. After 20 years in the corporate world, Kendra began feeling God was saying to her that she was capable of more. Kendra says, “I didn’t know what that looked like yet. I just had to trust Him.” “I had experienced many signs throughout my life that I would be connected to God in a closer way. After almost 20 years in corporate, I was burned-out, exhausted, my marriage was stressed, and I felt like the unhealthiest person I knew.” -Kendra Dohlstrom Intimacy: “Into-Me-You-See” “Everything is either in love or fear. When we have a sense of 'overwhelm' or stress, it’s really a fear response. It’s a fear of judgement or the fear that you don’t want people to see you as you really are. It could be a fear caused by "people pleasing" or a fear of upsetting people. If I cut off intimacy to myself (because I don’t want to really see what’s going on in me)… then I project that. I end up cutting off that connection with others. It’s really an inward job.” -Kendra Dohlstrom “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a HOPE and a FUTURE.” -Jeremiah 29:11 “Calling-Blocker” - anything that gets in the way of you fulfilling your calling or your purpose. God leads us into times where we have to realize that WE AREN’T IN CONTROL. Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. - Matthew 11:28 Helicopter Mom - this comes from a loving place. A mom cares so deeply… they don’t want their child to get hurt. It comes from a "FEAR mode". It’s about control. It makes us feel safe when things are in control. We know the outcome and their are no surprises. A common theme of control is SAFETY. "The most difficult area for me to let go of control is when it has to do with my kids. The more you love something, the more control you want to have." -Kendra Dahlstrom Jeremiah 29:11 applies to your children as well. “Overwhelmed" typically comes about when there is an "upset" inside of us. We either are fearful of something that is going to happen (but hasn’t), or we are fearful because we are trying to get a future outcome.” -Kendra Dahlstrom “I sometimes ask God to help me determine the top priorities of my "To Do" list so that I don’t unnecessarily add stress to my life. -Kendra Dahlstrom A general reason for not feeling appreciated is because you aren’t appreciating yourself. MOMGUILT: "If we hide the reality of our shortcomings from ourselves, then we judge ourselves. But if we have compassion for ourselves and allow God to forgive us… then we must forgive ourselves as well." - Kendra Dahlstrom "Remember if moms are judging you, they are also judging themselves." -Kendra Dahlstrom Do the best you can and be honest with yourself and your kids.

Nia Vardalos of My Big Fat Greek Wedding, joins the show to talk to Jim Parisi about her new movie, Helicopter Mom
In our third episode we begin the show discussing Steve Martin’s autobiography “Born Standing Up” with comedian Dan Van Kirk, looking into the incredible career of the legendary comedian. We also delve into the art and challenges of stand up comedy, the improvised stand up show “Set List”, audience dynamics, and how fame and popularity change everything. Next, we get a visit from a “Helicopter Mom” in New Canaan Conn., Julia Ballentine Peter, who tells us how a children’s book by James Patterson of ‘Alex Cross’ fame, “Treasure Hunters”, got her daughter Nel, 8, to fall in love with reading. It turns out that’s something he’s passionate about, and he has a great website called readkiddoread.com that promotes reading for kids and does lots of great work. Next, we talk to comedian Doug Dixon about a fascinating non-fiction book, “How We Got To Now: Six innovations That Made the Modern World” - by Steven Johnson. Based on the television series of the same name, hosted by Steven Johnson of the same person, seen on BBC2 and PBS. It’s an amazing multi-media project about innovation and how things change our world in surprising ways. Read it or watch it, you can choose! (You’re probably gonna watch it, aren’t you?) This project reminds me of another multi-media project I love, The Big History Project, a collaboration between Bill Gates and David Christian that’s about, well, everything. I highly recommend checking it out. It’s fun, easy, and informative. We wrap it up with a timely selection from Raj Desai, “Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk”: by Ben Fountain. Currently being made into a movie by Ang Lee, this provocative novel leads us into a great discussion about late bloomers, heroes, Raj’s hometown of Arlington Tx., Catch-22 by Joseph Heller, a young Alan Arkin, Malcolm Gladwell, The Dallas Cowboys, and so much more. Enjoy! We had so much fun on our premier episode of “Book Me, Please!” that we ran a full 90 minutes! In this first episode comedians Klee Wiggins, Tess Barker, and Robert Duchaine sit down with host Cornelius Peter for a fast and funny discussion of some of their favorite books. Books discussed include “The Night Circus” by Erin Morgenstern, “Clan of The Cave Bear by Jean M. Auel, and “Travels With Charley” by John Steinbeck, and in our segment for younger readers, “Helicopter Mom”, ‘Book Show’ owner Jen Hitchcock and her daughter Eleanor recommend “The Castle In The Attic” by Elizabeth Winthrop. But if that’s not enough, we also touch on works by Joan Didion and Russell Brand, as well as Archie Comics, “The Time Traveler’s Wife” by Audrey Niffenegger, National Novel Writing Month and much more!
We had a jam-packed studio filled with special guests this week, including Salome Breziner (Helicopter Mom) and Lisa Loeb! Also, JJ Fong of Flat 3 joined us while on vacation in SF. We had a blast.
