Are you ready to unravel the mysteries of modern male behavior? Buckle up for part one of a riveting two-part episode where we delve into the significant behavioral shifts in young men, marked by an increase in recklessness and a trend towards evading long-term commitments. Joining me today is William Costello, an expert on behavioral patterns, writer, researcher, and PhD student at the Evolutionary Psych Lab who will shed light on the rising recklessness, commitment-phobia among young men, and the emerging 'mating crisis'. We'll unpack the 'mating crisis', linking the drop in male commitment to relationships with the surge of women outpacing men in education. But that's not all! We'll also explore how dating apps and the internet have transformed the modern dating scene, giving rise to new socio-cultural phenomena like the 'incel' community. By tuning into this episode, you're signing up for more than just a podcast - you're stepping into a world of knowledge that will empower you to understand societal shifts and navigate your own life better. Mike talks with Noble Warriors board member and longtime friend, Rich Babbitt, on The Noble Man Podcast Episode 48. Before we met Rich, he was already investing in men. But the studies he did and breakfasts he attended lacked resources, tools, and direction. There were activities on the calendar but no advancement in discipleship. Rich saw a gap, and asked his pastor if he could help lead. He started with just three guys, and it grew from there.  Mike encourages listers to take the lead just like Rich did. "Lots of guys say they won't do it with just a few. You are a fool! Be willing to start with whoever God brings . . . those may be the ones who need the wisdom you have right now. Prayerfully ask God, ‘Who should I invest in? Give me one or two I can invest in.'" Rich began with Authentic Manhood, and it changed his life. It was biblically based with practical application specifically for men. He changed his fathering because of what he learned, and what he never received from his father, he was able to provide for his son. Until then he had been “just winging it as a husband, dad, and young adult because I didn't have any of it.”  Listen this week to how God has redeemed Rich's story. He can now look back at and say – if I had only known then what I know now. He found what he was looking for through Christ and with the help of men's discipleship.  Resources:  From Paperboy to Boomer by Rich Babbitt  Men's Fraternity and BetterMan by Robert Lewis  33 The Series   Point Man by Steve Farrar  Office@NobleWarriors.org or Mike.Young@NobleWarriors.org  - Email Noble Warriors for resources - Don't wait! “The issue of manhood is not going away – it unites us.”    Brian Gullins has a passion for fatherhood that has been constantly on display throughout his life and career as an educator, youth director, pastor, and program coordinator in both the public and private sectors. And thankfully for us, he's been a workshop presenter at our The Noble Man / ISI Conferences and joins us this week on the podcast to continue our series on What Are Men Looking For? A true visionary, he challenges us to define manhood, live it out, and think multi-generationally regarding our faith and families.    You don't want to miss the extensive gamut of wisdom he shares on these issues and more!    Why is it challenging to define manhood?    “Confusion is abundant.”    Do guys today know what manhood looks like? There are two extremes:    Manhood has become feminized.    Hyper pseudo-masculinity – men become unnecessarily violent.    Neither is biblical manhood, but without true guidance, people lean into one of those directions.    The Difference Between Love and Lust    “That is what has to be taught, modeled, discussed; it's that true biblical manhood is rooted in love.”    Love gives; lust takes.     Lust is not just sexual; it is a self-serving desire. Teach your son that difference, and teach your daughter when lust is being cloaked as love. By a consistent example of fatherly love, both son and daughter will be able to discern the difference between the real love of Christ and the counterfeit.    The Church and Manhood    Where could the father of your children go to get better advice on being a dad? We don't have enough churches ready to respond to that question.    “A lot of churches have what is a salvation model of ministry rather than a transformation model of ministry.” It all begins with salvation, but our job doesn't end there. When a man is transformed, so is his whole family.    Legacy    “We need to have a multigenerational vision of what goes on in our family because the seed that we plant now and the prayers that we pray affect not only them but the next generation and set the stage for generations to come.”     3 Things to Lay Before the Lord:    I would love and serve Him, and He would make me more Christlike.    Love my wife like Christ loves the church.    Leave a spiritual, natural, and financial inheritance for my children's children.     Manhood as a Bridge to Evangelism and Unity    Manhood/fatherhood is a brotherhood that transcends economic, cultural, racial, and geographic boundaries. Commonness there creates an evangelistic opportunity.    It creates an opportunity to bring healing to our nation as we connect with men.    Generational Discipleship    You may think your mistakes in life disqualify you, but you still have value. Please don't rob others of your stories, victories, and challenges.    The family is built on wisdom and strength. That indicates two generations: the younger who have strength, the older who have wisdom. When they come together it is a very powerful thing. Why am I still here? Could it be that God is not done with you yet?    What about a single mom or grandma looking to find godly examples?    When the matriarchs recognize that we need patriarchs, it gives the Lord permission to begin to move within that family. It may take a generation to get it done.    Pray for it.    Teach it.    Find other models. Start with a local church that values men and will hold them accountable in a way that causes them to rise.    Key Verses:   John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”    Romans 10:9-10 “Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.”    View Show Notes: NobleWarriors.org/episode47 Leave a Review: If you like what you've been hearing, we invite you to leave us a review. What Are Men Looking For? (Guest: Mike Camire) | Episode 46

We get to take advantage of the perspective of our own Student Ministries Pastor this week to continue discussing “What are Men Looking For?”   Mike Camire has attended Parkway Baptist Church since its second Sunday, and he has served full-time there for 13 years. He also serves as the statewide Student Ministries Strategist at the SBC of Virginia, and we are grateful for the role he has played in discipling our kids.  In working with Gen Z kids (born 1999-2015), he's seen firsthand how culture is trying to define manhood in different ways through entertainment, sports figures, and social media. Young people are trying to figure out what it means to be a man or woman of God.  These kids are open to spiritual things because of cultural events. They're asking why? What is the purpose? Where do I go when experiencing tough times? How do we disciple the largest generation when only 4% have a biblical worldview, and only 19% of churched kids have a desire to live that out?  Listen for tips like these and more:  It Starts at Home  Mike talks about the impact it made on him to see his dad come to Christ when he was seven years old.   “Dads, when your kids see you obey Christ, it's burned in their brains forever. It's a huge milestone for them.”  “Grasping it at home and living it out at home – I think that is a huge disconnect. Because in the church we can define manhood all we want, and we can disciple that way, but If it is not grasped and lived out at home in front of them, it is a big disconnect.”  The biggest communicator is love, intentional time. Let them know you love them. Point them back to scripture. Love them through what they go through as Christ has loved you through what you have been through.  Feel like you've messed up too much to make an impact?   Mike says, “Press on – I need you.”  “Not a day in your life has been wasted in preparing you for what you're doing.” Brian Autry  “It's only wasted when I don't yield myself to Him and give Him the opportunity to use it for his glory and to draw others to Him. God brought you out of that so you can pour that back into someone else; that's the point of a testimony. Don't let the enemy use that as a crutch.”  The Importance of Defining Biblical Manhood  “If we haven't been discipled to have a robust and bulletproof definition of what manhood is and to be able to articulate and live that out, we don't have anything to give to kids, so we end up just kind of letting them follow the current of culture, and we don't like that but we don't know how to come against it.”  Nail the definition down and live it out so you can pass it on.  Resources:  New Data on Gen Z—Perceptions of Pressure, Anxiety and Empowerment  Mike Camire, Pastor of Next Gen Ministry (Studentz / College & Young Professionals): mcamire@parkwayfamily.org  Parkway Baptist Church  When David's time to die drew near, he commanded Solomon his son, saying, “I am about to go the way of all the earth. Be strong, and show yourself a man, and keep the charge of the LORD your God, walking in his ways and keeping his statutes, his commandments, his rules, and his testimonies, as it is written in the Law of Moses, that you may prosper in all that you do and wherever you turn, that the LORD may establish his word that he spoke concerning me, saying, ‘If your sons pay close attention to their way, to walk before me in faithfulness with all their heart and with all their soul, you shall not lack a man on the throne of Israel.' 1 Kings 2:1-4    View Show Notes: NobleWarriors.org/episode46 Leave a Review: If you like what you've been hearing, we invite you to leave us a review. “When David's time to die drew near, he commanded Solomon his son, saying, ‘I am about to go the way of all the earth. Be strong, and show yourself a man.'” 1 Kings 2:2  What does it mean to show yourself a man? Manhood is confused and corrupted in our culture and our time. Many young men (and young women) are uncertain about what manhood is and are fearful to explore the topic because of the stigma of toxic masculinity.  In Episode 45, we talk with 4 Gen Z young men to wrestle with what manhood is and what these young men are looking for. Their discussion is an encouragement and a challenge for men to form more intergenerational bonds. Even as they study the Word together, they are open and hungry to engage with more experienced men and to learn from their victories and their mistakes. They express a desire to learn from the older man what he wishes he knew when he was younger.  They also share advice for young fathers from the perspective of what has meant a lot to them or what they wish they had.  Invest early and often.  Guide and provide wisdom from your past experience – things you messed up or things you have done well.  Cultivate an environment of trust, and provide a safe space to lean into you for understanding and love.  Talking about manhood is one of the best evangelical hooks of our time.  Society's understanding of manhood is often warped and counter to what Christ shows us. Even with the true biblical definition of manhood, we cannot do it in our own strength. We need to lean into Jesus for his guidance and lean into other men who are pursuing Christ and who will point you back to Jesus and the Word when things get rough.  “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” John 10:10  “Living out biblical manhood is part of the abundant life.”  Resources: BetterMan Authentic Manhood – 33 The Series View Show Notes: NobleWarriors.org/episode45 Leave a Review: If you like what you've been hearing, we invite you to leave us a review. In Siri Hustvedt's last essay collection, A Woman Looking at Men Looking at Women, she examines how narrow ideas of gender and perception affect how we experience art and literature. Art and identity is also a topic in her latest novel, The Blazing World. Tonight I will be talking about the documentary called "Frustrated" with  Producer Al Greeze. This is a very hot topic right now in the US and I want to know more about what's really going on?  Al Greeze decided to produce Frustrated after reading a September 2006 Essence Magazine article (Blame it On Rio) written by Professor William Jelani Cobb, which stated that African men were travelling to Brazil for sex vacations with Brazilian prostitutes and the adulation of the Brazilian women. Greeze wanted to either confirm or deny and reveal the answers from the men themselves and find out if it is for love and companionship or just sex. The effect may have been suspected but what is the cause?   You can ask Al Greeze tonight about this new trend. Why are these men leaving their own women back home and finding partners in Brazil? What can we learn from this experience? Join the conversation on 3479457556 https://twitter.com/Greeze_Films http://greezefilms.com/ Follow Ebony:  https://twitter.com/Ebonyempress

Two men on a hillside, standing on a stony outcrop, look at the crescent moon shining in a luminous sky. Framed between a strong, sinuous oak and an angular, spiky pine, the younger man leans on his companion’s shoulder, as though overcome by beauty. These are not detached scientific observers scrutinising a lunar phenomenon, but witnesses of God’s ever-surprising Nature. Instead of that scientific examination of natural phenomena so characteristic of German learning at the time, Friedrich’s painting is a parable of Christianity and paganism. The oak, used for heathen rituals, is dying; the evergreen pine, a symbol of Christianity, lives. The men are protected underneath its branches. Friedrich painted several versions of this scene, similar in composition although varying in character. The earliest known dates from 1819, another of a man and woman was made c. 1824, and at least two more were painted about 1830.1Friedrich’s friend Dahl refers to later versions by the artist and others in a letter of 26 September 1840, at the time he donated the 1819 painting to the Dresden Gemäldegalerie in memory of Friedrich: This picture, full of sentiment and the quietness of nature, was painted by Friedrich in 1819 and he gave it to me in exchange for one of my own works. Friedrich had to copy it several times, but he did not approve of this, hence others copied it as well.2 While there is some disagreement about this version, close examination reveals Friedrich’s blue underdrawing, a generous execution, and liberal and unique application of colour.3The characteristic freedom of the artist’s hand can be seen here, with the silhouette of a dead branch on the right, jutting from a large rock – a pagan dolmen – which seems to buttress the old oak tree. A sawn stump on the left testifies to human life cut short while new vegetation, representing a growing Christianity, appears in a line of young pines on the right. Friedrich’s earlier works often show a lone hero in the landscape. A pair of figures now become part of the artist’s repertoire, to symbolise friendship. They wear German national dress; the cloak and hat signalled opposition to the French invasions under Napoleon, and they were still popular signs of dissent against later reactionary German governments under Metternich. The men have been identified as Friedrich, leaning on a walking stick, and his pupil, August Heinrich (1794–1822), who died of consumption. It is touching the way the younger leans upon the older man, rather than the conventional reverse. Friedrich captures the temporary and evanescent effects of this expedition to watch the moon and Venus, a strange phenomenon counterpoising the effects of light and darkness. The moon-filled sky is pale and glowing, denying blackness as the moon’s natural element. The material world is dark, outlined against the eerie heavens. Christine Dixon 1 The 1819 painting is in the Galerie Neue Meister, Dresden. A version made c. 1824, depicting the artist and his wife Caroline is in the National Galerie, Berlin. A c. 1830 version is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; this 1830s version is held in the Galerie Hans, Hamburg. 2 Letter to the Dresden Gemäldegalerie, Sächsische Hauptarchiv, cited in Helmut Börsch-Supan and Karl Wilhelm Jähnig, Caspar David Friedrich: Gemälde, Druckgraphik und bildmässige Zeichnungen, Munich: Prestel, 1973, p. 216, note 34. 3 Because of its spontaneity and breadth of handling, and original variations on the other versions, this painting is unlikely to be a copy by another artist. Copyists are notoriously careful in their imitation, and all too accurate in their replication. This version is attributed to Friedrich by Werner Sumowski 1969, 1971, 1975 and by Jens Christian Jensen 1999, refuting Helmut Börsch-Supan and Karl Wilhelm Jähnig 1973, who attribute it to a copyist, perhaps Julius Leypold.
