Holography has long lived in the shadow of science fiction, but what happens when it's finally real  and ready for the consumer market? In this episode recorded at Tech Talks Daily, I sit down with Darran Milne, co-founder and CEO of VividQ to unpack what sets true holography apart from the gimmicks. With a background in quantum physics and years of technical leadership, Darran cuts through the noise around immersive display technologies and explains how VividQ is building real holographic experiences — not tricks of the eye, but accurate 3D projections that replicate how we naturally see the world. Darran walks us through the technology powering their recent demo with Call of Duty, showing that VividQ's tech isn't just theoretical. It runs on today's hardware and can convert existing 3D content into holograms without access to the original source code. That changes the game for entertainment, but it's only the beginning. We explore where else this could lead: head-up displays in cars that genuinely blend digital directions into the driver's view, medical devices that eliminate the need for separate testing rooms, and even the idea of holography replacing traditional screens entirely. Darran doesn't just speculate on the future — he outlines a practical, layered rollout strategy, identifying the industries where the technology can scale first. This isn't about chasing hype. It's about thoughtful engineering and commercial execution. If your business touches gaming, automotive, spatial computing, or XR, this conversation shows why holography may be closer than you think — and how VividQ plans to put it in front of you. Could your next screen be light itself?

What is Holography and how does it help us Quantize gravity? In this conversation I speak with Pedro Vieira, one of the worlds leading experts on holographic dualities and their application in quantum gravity. We start our discussion with a few standard but big questions, like why is quantum gravity difficult, what is quantum field theory, and what is gauge symmetry. We then dive into the topic of holography, which in broad and provocative terms is the idea that our universe and everything in it might be a hologram projected from some lower dimensional quantum theory. That is, there might be a duality between the mathematics that describes our world including gravity and the mathematics that describes a world with quantum mechanics and without gravity in one dimension lower. If such a duality were true, then it might provide a radial way of side stepping all of the usual difficulties of quantizing gravity.  ►Watch on YouTube: https://youtu.be/FdpVxLq_PAk ►Find out more about Pedro here: https://perimeterinstitute.ca/people/pedro-vieira  https://inspirehep.net/authors/1027784  These conversations are supported by the Andrea von Braun foundation (http://www.avbstiftung.de/), as an exploration of the rich, exciting, connected, scientifically literate, and (most importantly) sustainable future of humanity. We discuss his attempts to bring himself into line with peers who had a very different formal training. Then we discuss his particular theoretical projects in physics. In particular he has developed a theory of informational constants of nature, which he calls holographic quantum information theory in an effort to unify quantum mechanics and Einsteinian relativity. To make sense of that we unpack concepts like cubits, hidden information, and quantum vector spin models. And going through that had a huge impact on her life as you might expect. For the many years she was quite literally dying, she decided she only wanted to work on really interesting projects - as she says to me in this interview, “I never really thought I would live very long and so I wanted to find really interesting things to do with my life for however long I might live.”Mary Lou became fascinated with holography and optics whilst at school and spent her career pioneering in VR and in the optics space as an engineering executive at Intuit, Google, Facebook, Oculus, and with her own four startups which included multi-billion dollar non-profit One Laptop Per Child. She is now using her decades long experience in this space and her experience with a brain tumour to spearhead Openwater where the goal is to create the technology to be able to see deep into the body with the detail of a 3D camera. The implications of this technology will make critical diagnostics healthcare far more affordable and accessible for millions but it could also mean we achieve telepathy which is hugely exciting. Mary Lou website / Openwater / Twitter Danielle Twitter / Instagram / NewsletterMentioned in this episode:I Know What You're Thinking: Brain Imaging and Mental Privacy

Based on 40 years of observable patterns discovered through Live Cell Microscopy, the Bigelsen Method is a way to discover the root cause of the body's imbalance, while giving hope to a world too long confined within an archaic medical matrix. The root cause is not a germ! It's an imbalance in your TERRAIN. Dr. Bigelsen learned how to interpret images created by the blood in order to understand a person's total health. He found that blood, like water, is a messenger of a person's emotion and consciousness.  Imagine that from one drop of blood you can see into how your body is reacting both physically and emotionally. You are a SPIRITUAL, EMOTIONAL, and PHYSICAL being and your health is a balance of these realms.  “Blockages” from surgeries, injuries, birth trauma, emotional trauma, etc. in any one, or more of these areas may eventuate in dis-ease.  Depending on how longstanding and what the trauma or issue may be, your Holographic Blood® holds the TRUTH and the KEY to decoding the hidden messages within you. Eastern philosophy believes there are holograms in the eye, ear, foot, and tongue.  The same can be said for the blood. Outside of the basics such as red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, etc…, the blood shows holographic images which may show disturbance fields.  This discussion couldn't be more timely, and we promise, this episode will forever change how you view your body and health.

Holography explains why black hole horizons have thermodynamic and hydrodynamic properties and inspires researchers to re-visit foundations and explore limits of relativistic hydrodynamics Since the work of Bekenstein, Hawking and others in the early 1970s, it was known that the laws of black hole mechanics are closely related if not identical to the laws of thermodynamics. A natural question to ask, then, is whether this analogy or the correspondence extends beyond the equilibrium state. The affirmative answer, given by various authors during the 1980s and 90s, became known as the "black hole membrane paradigm". It was shown that black hole horizons can be viewed as being endowed with fluid-like properties such as viscosity, thermal conductivity and so on, whose values remained mysterious. The development of holography 15-20 years ago clarified many of these issues and has led to the quantitative correspondence between Navier-Stokes and Einstein equations. It became possible to study the long-standing problems such as thermalization and turbulence by re-casting them in the dual gravity language. We review those developments focusing, in particular, on the issue of the "unreasonable effectiveness" of hydrodynamic description in strongly interacting quantum systems. Final remarks, Prof Julia Yeomans FRS, Head of Rudolf Peierls Centre for Theoretical Physics

The principle of holography of information states that, in any theory of quantum gravity, a copy of all the information available on a Cauchy slice is also available near the boundary of the slice. This principle can be made precise and proved, under weak assumptions, for theories of gravity in AdS and in flat space and it has interesting implications for black holes. In this talk, we will describe how this principle can be tested within the realm of low-energy effective field theory. We will describe how observers placed in a low-energy state near the boundary of AdS can use a simple physical protocol to completely identify the state of the bulk without directly visiting the bulk. We will also describe low-energy thought experiments that can be used to similarly obtain information about the bulk state from near the boundary of flat space.

I will describe the four-derivative corrections to four-dimensional N=2 minimal gauged supergravity and show that they are controlled by two constants. Interestingly, the solutions of the equations of motion in the two-derivative theory are not modified by the higher-derivative corrections. I will use this to arrive at a general formula for the regularized on-shell action for any asymptotically locally AdS_4 solution of the theory and show how the higher-derivative corrections affect black hole thermodynamic quantities in a universal way. I will employ these results in the context of holography to derive new explicit results for the subleading corrections in the large N expansion of supersymmetric partition functions on various compact manifolds for a large class of three-dimensional SCFTs arising from M2- and M5-branes. I will also briefly discuss possible extensions and generalizations of these results.

Euclidean wormholes comprise exotic types of gravitational solutions, that still challenge our physical intuition and understanding. In the first part of the talk, I will analyse asymptotically AdS wormhole solutions in the context of holography. From a bottom up perspective a study of correlation functions of local and non-local operators indicates the universal properties that any putative holographic dual should exhibit. The system is very weakly cross-coupled in the UV, and becomes strongly cross-coupled in the IR. In the second part, I will describe some concrete field theoretic setups which exhibit such a behaviour and comment on various issues arising in the alpha-parameter interpretation of the wormhole gas.
