On this episode of Transforming Trauma, Brad Kammer, CTTC Director and NARM® Senior Trainer, invites Tobias Konermann, Ph.D., NARM Therapist, to share insights from his recent article: How the NeuroAffective Relational Model Expands the Psychotherapeutic Landscape.  Together, they discuss a broad range of topics, including what sets the developmentally-oriented, mindfulness-based aspects of NARM apart from its humanistic predecessors, how shame functions in the therapeutic relationship and inhibits client transformation, and strategies for working with the phenomenology (or lived experience) that influences every interaction.  About Tobias Konermann: Tobias Konermann is a Clinical Psychologist and licensed Psychotherapist practicing in Berlin, Germany. He teaches at several institutes for psychotherapy (DGVT, HAP, IMU) and specializes in working with developmental trauma. Notes: Joanna and I explore the idea of inviting fear to come closer and be held, through song and word. We talk about how gifts of attention can come from wounds, and therefore be mixed blessings. Joanna describes the "field" she tends in a song circle, and what craves special notice when you live and work with the same person. This was recorded shortly before the political change in the USA when Biden chose not to run for office, so you won't hear us talking about the buoyancy that can come from feeling hopeful... but we do touch on navigating grief and fear! We also talk about one of the huge gifts a group singing can give a songcarrier.... Songwriter Info: Joanna Laws Landis (she/her) is a song-carrier and grief-tender with a deep trust in the transformational healing power of welcome and compassion. Joanna was steeped in song and harmony from her early years: in church, at school and in community choirs. In her late 20s, she discovered the community singing movement and felt a deep alignment with this simple and direct pathway to connection and healing. After collecting a wide library of songs from the midwest to the pacific coast, she has been leading community song circles regularly since 2020. Joanna has recently relocated to the land of her maternal grandmother's people outside of Asheville, NC where in addition to leading singing & grief-tending, she is deepening her understanding of the body's innate wisdom for healing with Somatic Experiencing International, and is studying collective trauma integration & facilitation with Thomas Hübl. “The mind creates the abyss, and the heart crosses it.” — Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj A deep and insightful dialog between A.H. Almaas, founder of the Diamond Approach to Self-realization and Thomas Hübl, founder of the Academy of Inner Science. This conversation was recorded from a 2022 SAND Community Gathering facilitated by SAND co-founders Zaya and Maurizio Benazzo. In this meeting between two leading contemporary spiritual teachers they explored: Healing the gap between the mind and the heart The path from fragmentation to integration Tapping into our sensing/body intelligence Our potential for healing/realization In today's world of fast-food spirituality, we can get caught in the illusion of finding a spiritual ‘fix' for the challenges of life. In this conversation, we will look at the notion of integrated spirituality, and how effective spiritual practice needs time and space to be deeply nourishing, healing and sustainable. Join us to explore what it means to commit to a spiritual path and to live with an awakened heart. Hameed Ali (A. H. Almaas), Founder of the Diamond Approach, was born in the Middle East, but at age 18 he moved to the USA to study at the University of California in Berkeley. Hameed was working on his Ph.D. in physics, where he was studying Einstein's theory of general relativity and nuclear physics, when he reached a turning point in his life and destiny that led him more and more into inquiring into the psychological and spiritual aspects of human nature. Hameed is the founder of the Diamond Approach®—a spiritual teaching that utilizes a unique kind of inquiry into realization, where the practice is the expression of realization. Freedom is living our realization, a dynamic enlightenment where our transcendent nondual truth lives personally in the world. This inquiry opens up the infinite creativity of our Being, transforming our lives into a runaway realization, moving from realization to further realization. Almaas' books include: Love Unveiled, Unfolding Now, and The Keys to the Enneagram. www.diamondapproach.org Thomas Hübl is a renowned teacher, author, and international facilitator whose lifelong work integrates the core insights of the great wisdom traditions and mysticism with the discoveries of science. Since the early 2000s, he has been leading large-scale events and courses that focus on the healing and integration of trauma, with a special focus on the shared history of Israelis and Germans. Over the last decade, he has facilitated dialogue with thousands of people around healing the collective traumas of racism, oppression, colonialism, genocides in the U.S., Israel, Germany, Spain, and Argentina. He has been teaching workshops and presenting trainings for Harvard Medical School since 2019. His non-profit organization, the Pocket Project, works to support the healing of collective trauma throughout the world. He is the author of the book, Healing Collective Trauma: A Process for Integrating Our Intergenerational and Cultural Wounds, which outlines his methodology called the “Collective Trauma Integration Process” as a safe framework for guiding groups through collective trauma. www.collectivetraumabook.com and thomashuebl.com

Brian: "Since I can remember, my favorite word is why? This seeking to know through experience led me to a JR A Hockey Championship with Orland Kurtenbach, a great hockey coach mentor, the person who taught me 'what it takes to win' and to a realization: that what I think I know is but a drop in the bucket. Thus the ever-evolving student emerged, learning new skills to better train athletes and coach hockey, plus search for new mentors...which led me to Juerg Feldmann. Juerg introduced me to leading-edge technology and 'how to play at a new level' - integrating technology, health, and performance. I then took a so-called left turn and immersed myself in Classical Hatha Yoga at the Isha Ashram in southern India to learn eastern Yogic ideas on the physical, mental/emotional and energy. Back in North America, I began a 2-year search for a 'new Juerg' to work with...to share ideas, argue, assess and ultimately to share with all - I found not one, but two :) Aaron Davis & Patrick Estes” EPISODE LINKS: ► IG: https://www.instagram.com/next_levelsp/ ► Full Videl Episode: PODCAST INFO: ► Podcast website: https://upsidestrength.podbean.com/ ► Apple Podcasts: http://apple.co/3mroiB4 ► Spotify: http://spoti.fi/34jJtyX PODCAST PLAYLISTS: ► Full episodes playlist: http://bit.ly/3oSCkxe ► English Clips playlist: http://bit.ly/3gRmAry ► French Clips playlist: http://bit.ly/2K1IoVK TOPICS: 0:00 - Intro 0:58 - Start 7:58 - Hockey performance assessment 23:15 - Survival training 40:05 - Optimal recovery time 53:15 - Breathing and CO2 1:15:25 - Mistakes using Moxy 1:17:25 INTRO 1:37:45 - Book project CONNECT: ► Subscribe for more videos here: http://bit.ly/1Xgr5y5 ► Twitter: https://twitter.com/seanseale ► LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/seanseale/ ► Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/upsidestrength ► Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/upsidestrength ► Tik Tok: https://vm.tiktok.com/ZSgNAPQF/ EQUIPMENT & PROMOTIONS: ▶︎ Spirometer: http://ebay.to/2YCcSBj ▶︎ Idiag P-100: https://www.idiag.ch/en/idiag-p100-en/ (email me at info@upsidestrength.com for a 20% discount code) ▶︎ Moxy Monitor (email me at info@upsidestrength.com for a 20% discount code) ▶︎ Strength Coach Network: https://strengthcoachnetwork.com/upside/?orid=15781 (50% off on your first month) DISCLAIMER: ► These descriptions usually contain affiliate links. Remarkable mystic and teacher Thomas Hübl joins Terry to discuss his new book Healing Collective Trauma, and they take the exploration into some new deep places. Every human being is born into and affected by, either directly or indirectly, the collective wounds of human history — epigenetically, energetically, and systemically. This is why Thomas says that we are all “shareholders of our collective unconscious.” Intergenerational and cultural traumas become “frozen hostages stuck in time.” In the conversation, Thomas describes how we can honor the intelligent functions of these hostages, our traumas, and make them our allies. We can harvest their evolutionary life intelligence and energy by consciously allowing the inherent self-healing mechanisms of our own bodies and minds. They explore what is revealed by this exquisitely subtle understanding. It shines new light on what is emerging now in the collective field of human consciousness during this intense and dramatic time on planet Earth. Thomas Hübl is a highly original mystic and teacher, and the founder of the Academy of Inner Science. His teachings integrate new discoveries from contemporary science with his direct mystical knowledge, resonant with ancient wisdom traditions. I first met him over a decade ago, and we became good friends, & in the time since I’ve had the honor to help introduce Thomas to the English-speaking world. Now, Thomas has worked with more than 100,000 people worldwide through workshops, multi-year training programs and online courses. He has guided large-scale healing events that have brought together thousands of Germans and Israelis to acknowledge, face and heal the cultural shadow left by the Holocaust. He is also the founder of the nonprofit Pocket Project, which aims to increase awareness and understanding of collective trauma and reduce its effects. He also founded the annual Celebrate Life Festival that gathers conscious people in Germany and America. His important new book is Healing Collective Trauma: A Process for Integrating our Intergenerational and Cultural Wounds. Here are a few additional questions Thomas and Terry explore:  How are our ancestors’ trauma and frozen structures tending to reenact themselves in our present-day relationships? How can we cooperate with the intelligence of our trauma process, allowing a natural process of self-healing? Thomas’s concept of “retro-causality” suggests that the whole karmic pattern of intergenerational trauma can be healed in the light of open awareness.  What is it like to be so exquisitely present, here and now, that we catalyze such radical healing of the past, present and future? Thomas talks about “cultural presencing,” the social artistry of honoring and healing collective trauma. What are the practices we do in this present moment to allow that to begin? Thomas Hübl is an Austrian-born contemporary spiritual teacher and the founder of the Academy of Inner Science. With Sounds True, he has recorded the audio training The Power of We: Awakening in the Relational Field and written a book titled Healing Collective Trauma: A Process for Integrating Our Intergenerational and Cultural Wounds. In this episode of Insights at the Edge, Tami Simon speaks with Thomas about healing collective trauma as the work of our time. They discuss how we can feel and are affected by major traumas of the past, even if we didn’t directly experience them, and the ways in which this contributes to our collective separation. Thomas also explains the concept of “retrocausality,” or the potential for the healing we undertake in our lifetimes to benefit our entire family lines. At a time when so much ancestral trauma, multigenerational trauma, and cultural trauma is in our midst, Thomas invites us to turn toward it and join together to heal and integrate the pain of the past as we create a different future.

“Our global future of healing... is in these kind of collaborative fields that we will bring these powers together and learn from each other -- help each other to see the things that we are still not seeing ourselves and be a kind of a global healing force.” ~Thomas Hübl Dr. Laurence Heller, the Creator of the NeuroAffective Relational Model (NARM) is joined by Thomas Hubl, a teacher, author, and founder of the Academy of Inner Science and the Pocket Project. Thomas’ work combines somatic awareness practices, advanced meditative practices, and transformational processes that address both individual and collective trauma. Larry and Thomas discuss the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the similarities between individual and collective trauma responses, and how their work overlaps in seeking to transform complex trauma through therapeutic, collective, and spiritual pathways.  Thomas’ organization found new ways to support his team in co-regulation during this time by offering a space to discuss the difficulties of living in social isolation. Similarly, the NARM Training Institute adapted by moving online and launched the first NARM Online Basics Training, allowing over 130 students to connect to NARM teachings.  The two agree that it’s very important to understand on both individual and community scales the way trauma impacts us all.  This brings the conversation to the ways that individual trauma responses take place within the larger context, or network, of the collective experience. Both Dr. Heller and Thomas have experienced a growing feeling that there is a “global community interest in healing.” To read the full show notes and discover more resources visit http://www.narmtraining.com/podcast *** NARM Online Basics Training begins November 13, 2020. Podcast: This week on the show we present a conversation pre-recorded on November 29th, 2019 with OM C. Parkin. OM C. Parkin studied psychology, but dropped out of university studies after three years, because it gave him no real insight into human nature. In parallel, he worked intensely on the spiritual traditions of Sufism and the Enneagram as a mirror of the cosmos, especially the human psyche. In 1990, at the age of 27, he suffered a serious car accident, crossed the threshold of death, and woke up again to life, egolessly. Shortly thereafter, he met his spiritual teacher Gangaji, who helped him process his transformation, which cut through the everyday world of experience. Gangaji sent OM to her own teacher H. W. L. Poonja, a direct disciple of Ramana Maharshi, who gave OM his spiritual name. OM has been teaching orally and in writing ever since, accompanying people in their search for truth and self-knowledge at spiritual events (Darshan). In addition, he is the author of a variety of books, writings and articles, including the recent English publications of The Digital Age, The Birth of the Lion – Non-Duality as a Way of Life, and Intelligence of Awakening – Navigating the Wisdom Path. OM founded the first major German-speaking mystery school of the present time in the '90s. Since 2010, the school is located at Gut Saunstorf, a splendidly restored historic manor house near the Hanseatic city of Wismar, that has been known as the "Ort der Stille" (Place of Stillness). As a modern monastery, it is also open as a retreat for people who are on the inner path. OM C. Parkin's spiritual teaching, also referred to as Inner Science, is based on the Eastern Advaita tradition (teaching of non-duality--the best-known representative of this tradition in the West is Ramana Maharshi). This teaching also encompasses Western experiential paths (e. g. Christian Mysticism, Georges I. Gurdjieff: The Fourth Way) as well as modern psychological and psychotherapeutic methods. The goal is self-knowledge through inner work, which ultimately leads to the realization of the true human nature. OM is also preparing for an American tour in October of 2020.
