Once Americans landed in Manila, tensions simmered between the Filipino independence movement and emerging power of the United States in the Pacific. Attempts to come to any accommodation failed. Emilio Aguinaldo led an Army but failed to wrest control from the United States. Rather than give up the fight, Aguinaldo pursued a guerilla campaign. While they put up a good fight, they failed to secure independence. In a struggle that lasted longer than the campaign against Cuba, the United States was now saddled with the consequences of pursuing an empire. McCarthy Award for excellence in environmental law. He studied human rights and international law at the University of Amsterdam and traveled the world on Semester at Sea. Andrew completed his Master of Laws at Denver University Sturm College of Law ('11) with a perfect GPA and was awarded the Outstanding L.L.M. Award for his work as the Erik Bluemel International Environmental Law Fellow. After a short stint in private practice Andrew joined the Freedom From Religion Foundation as a constitutional attorney and later Director of Strategic Response, running a nimble unit known as the Strategic Response Team and helping elevate that organization's profile. Insurrection Barbie on Anonymity, Faith, Anti‑Semitism on the Right, and the Candace Owens Controversy Larry Alex Taunton hosts “Insurrection Barbie,” an anonymous conservative Christian on X, to discuss why she protects her identity as a mother and how her account grew after BLM and COVID-era activism. She describes becoming more openly pro-Israel after a February 2024 X Space and says her impressions dropped sharply while attacks from anti-Jewish accounts intensified. They argue some self-identified Christians and influencers are co-opting Christianity for political power, radicalizing young men, and drifting toward Islam and anti-Jewish rhetoric, citing polling about young evangelical men's views on Israel and mentioning Andrew Tate. Barbie recounts a dispute with Megyn Kelly, alleging Kelly tried to dox her after Barbie criticized Kelly for excusing Candace Owens, whom she says is targeting Charlie Kirk's widow. They conclude with concerns about extremism, 2028 elections, pastors failing to equip congregations, and the importance of scripture and gratitude as a spiritual discipline.

Hawk walks through Jonathan V. Last's newsletter from The Bulwark, titled "Political Violence Breaks Containment," which traces Trump's pattern from encouraging rally-goers to punch protesters in 2016, to excusing Charlottesville, to the January 6th Capitol insurrection, to pardoning convicted violent offenders and even placing one inside the DOJ. The same administration that published what JVL calls snuff films, threatened genocide against the Iranian people, and called political opponents vermin and enemies of the state is now incredulous that political violence has turned in its direction. The shooter, Cole Thomas Allen, a teacher and engineer who checked into the hotel a day before the event with a shotgun, a handgun, and multiple knives, found virtually no security in place. He sent a manifesto to family members roughly 10 minutes before the attack, outlining his targets, his rules of engagement, and his reasoning, rooted in rage at the current administration. Hawk also covers why trust in this White House's version of events has completely collapsed, on both sides of the political spectrum, because of years of disinformation, QAnon, Pizzagate, and compulsive lying. The New Discourses Podcast with James Lindsay, Ep. 198 Early in March 2026, the famous but anonymous X account known as "Insurrection Barbie" (https://x.com/defiyantlyfree) dropped a long article (https://x.com/DefiyantlyFree/status/2029681200189636717) about an Integralist operation to disrupt and hijack the American right-wing (or conservative movement, or Republican Party). While helping Galvan to secure a loose tarp on his truck Mulvaney observes a load of empty rifle crates in the bed of the truck. Although Galvan is seemingly nervous, Mulvaney sends him on his way, noting that follow-up was needed. Surrounding this stop a chain of events unfold showing how some Council Ford locals form a militia in the belief that their way of life is threatened and that their guns, not the voters' ballots, are their final protection against the tyranny of a new state gun control law and invasion of technological change that will end their way of life. Finally, Mulvaney is called back to Council Ford in fear that violence was brewing. Little did anyone know that soon an insurrection would erupt at the Council Ford Courthouse and that gunfire, explosions and fire would result in the deaths of twenty-five Americans. In this exciting political thriller set in a future rural America, a group of extremists unfurl a plot to oppose gun regulation and stop government tyranny.

A one-time tattoo shop owner, Van Tatenhove studied fine art in college and as a journalist, in 2014, he embedded with the Oath Keepers while following the story of Cliven Bundy and the rancher's standoff with law enforcement.  Later, Jason went on to become the Oath Keepers National Media Director.
