Advancing the practice of engineering with nature is a primary goal for the Engineering With Nature Program, and technology transfer through publications is a critical pathway to achieving this goal. In Season 8, Episode 8, host Sarah Thorne is joined by Amanda Tritinger, Deputy Lead of the Engineering with Nature Program, and Courtney Chambers, Communications Lead for the Engineering With Nature Program. They're discussing the importance of the Programs' key publications, including two new ones in 2025.Publications are critical to advancing the practice and closing the gaps in knowledge. As Amanda says, “They showcase real-world applications of natural infrastructure and inspire others to adopt these strategies in their own projects. By publishing, we make it possible for natural infrastructure to be integrated into more projects and drive innovation across multiple sectors.”  This episode highlights several examples of innovative EWN Publications, including:The EWN Atlas series;Natural Infrastructure for Mission Readiness at U.S. Navy and Marine Corps Installations – Also known as “The Navy Playbook”; andThe Four Coasts Project Idea Handbook – design concepts that incorporate Engineering With Nature from four of the EWN Proving Grounds districts: San Francisco, Mobile, the Great Lakes, and Philadelphia.  Courtney explains that the Atlas series was born out of a conversation that Todd Bridges, founder of the EWN Program, had with the then USACE Director of Civil Works, James Dalton who suggested that people would understand the key principles of EWN if they could see what they look like in practice. Its success has led to these additional innovative publications.Hollie Janson Schmidt, National Director of the Planning Group for Advisory Solutions at Jacobs, was the project executive responsible for developing the Navy Playbook with EWN. She joins the conversation and explains that, “The intention of the book is to really be nontechnical and user friendly so that someone could look at some of these sketches and really understand some of the characteristics and the components that we're addressing.” She adds, “It's just really meant to sort of excite people with the visuals and the beauty of what we were trying to bring forward.”Mindy Strevig, Managing Engineer at Anchor QEA, leads the collaboration on the development of the Four Coasts Handbook. She also joins the conversation and notes “The goal of the Four Coasts Handbook, is to get those solution concepts visualized and conveyed in a way that folks can continue those conversations through their traditional processes to get these projects funded, garner support, and move them to implementation. The EWN team continues to promote the work of the EWN Program and its partners through publications like these, as well as through ERDC Tech Notes and Tech Reports, and peer-reviewed articles in scientific journals. Amanda stresses that “these publications are invaluable to our practitioners because they provide a strong scientific foundation combined with the real-world application of natural infrastructure. By publishing this work, we ensure that knowledge is shared, lessons are learned, and innovations are being scaled up. These publications are critical to advancing the practice. They're how we bridge that gap between research and implementation and offer actionable insights.” For more information and resource links, please visit the EWN website at https://www.engineeringwithnature.org/  Amanda Tritinger – LinkedInCourtney Chambers – LinkedInHollie Janson Schmidt – LinkedInMindy Strevig – LinkedIn

My 2004 UGA Law School Classmate Erica Parson and her husband, Mark Stewart, join the podcast in a hilarious, information and feel good episode. We sampled some Old Fashions and had a great time. Raised in Montgomery, AL, Erica spent her undergraduate years at Auburn University studying English and French. She worked in the South of France at the Festival d’Avignon for a summer and once she came to terms with the fact that she likely would not achieve her lifelong dream of becoming Queen of England, she decided to take her talents for zealous advocacy to the University of Georgia School of Law. She was so devoted to UGA’s advocacy program that Erica (and her husband Mark) have the unique honor of being the only couple to ever be married in the Hatton-Lovejoy Courtroom at the law school. After graduating from UGA, Erica began her practice in coastal Alabama, but relocated to Atlanta where she spent nearly two decades in Atlanta focusing her practice on general liability and automobile insurance defense, bad faith and coverage litigation with several major defense firms in the city. She is licensed to practice in Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee and has successfully litigated cases in both state and federal courts at the trial and appellate levels. In 2020, Erica and her husband relocated to Rabun County, where she worked remotely and began to reimagine her career. Inspired by the work he had done over the years, Erica reached out to Arman about embarking on a new chapter together. With two decades of litigation experience, Erica has developed a uniquely measured approach to the practice of law that centers on compassion, understanding, and integrity with a healthy dose of good humor and a touch of irreverence. Erica lives by the wise wisdom of Roadhouse’s James Dalton: ‘All you have to do is follow three simple rules. One, never underestimate your opponent. Expect the unexpected. Two, take it outside. Never start anything inside the bar unless it’s absolutely necessary. And three, be nice. . . until it’s time to not be nice.’” Erica recently moved to Auburn, Alabama with her husband Mark and three dogs Waylon, Jesse and Hank so they could all be closer to family. She set up shop in the Columbus office and, in addition to her Georgia cases, is handling the firm’s Alabama and Tennessee cases, usually with Waylon and/or Jesse in the office with her.

The ALL ME® Podcast SARMs - What does the research say? - Dr. James Dalton Athletes are always looking for a competitive edge and many choose to take the clean approach in doing things the right by Training Hard, Eating Right, and Playing Fair. This is actually what we at the Taylor Hooton Foundation say is ALL ME. But there are those who look for ways to try and cheat the system by using a performance enhancing substance. Fairly new to the market is a product called Selective Androgen Receptor Modulators or SARMs, which was first introduced in 1998 as a non-steroidal therapeutic drug. Prohibited for use in all collegiate and professional sports, some athletes feel they may be a safer alternative to steroids. Why are SARMs banned for competition and are they safe to take? Are they a safer alternative to steroids and what does the research say about dosage? In this episode, I will be speaking with Dr. James Dalton who has spent over 20 years researching the effects of SARMs in clinical populations as well as exploring the potential side effects of SARMs, their safety, and whether or not he would recommend SARMs to his 19 year old son who was asking about their use and safety?   Dr. Dalton's Bio James T. Dalton, Ph.D. is Dean and Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences in the College of Pharmacy at the University of Michigan.  He received his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Cincinnati (1986) and Doctor of Philosophy in pharmaceutics and pharmaceutical chemistry from Ohio State University (1990).  Dean Dalton rose through the faculty ranks in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences in the College of Pharmacy at the University of Tennessee (1992-2000) before returning to Ohio State where he served as Professor and Chair in the Division of Pharmaceutics (2000-2007).  He began an entrepreneurial leave of absence from Ohio State in 2005 and finally left OSU in 2007 to devote his full time effort as Chief Scientific Officer at GTx, Inc. in Memphis, TN (2007-2014) where he oversaw the preclinical and clinical development of selective androgen receptor modulators, which he will be talking about today.   He was recently elected to the National Academy of Medicine and is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) and American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS).   He has co-authored over 300 original abstracts and peer-reviewed scientific manuscripts and is an inventor on over 400 United States and international patent applications related to selective androgen receptor modulators, selective estrogen receptor alpha and beta ligands, tubulin antagonists, and receptor tyrosine kinase inhibitors.  Resource Links:  Did You Know? Each year climate negotiators gather for the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Conference of the Parties, or COP, to discuss how to address climate change. But how does science inform climate policy? Is climate policy actually based in science? Should technical professionals become involved in climate policy? If so, how? In this episode of ClimateReady, we bring in two people neck deep in climate and water policy despite having largely technical backgrounds. AGWA's Coordinator, Dr. John Matthews, interviews the Director of IUCN's Global Water Program, Dr. James Dalton, about the need for technical perspectives in the world of policy. Together, a biologist and an engineer discuss the challenges of entering a fast-paced arena that sometimes requires compromise and generalizations and the means by which interested (especially young) professionals can enter the fray. Following their conversation, we hear a “Postcard from the Future” that takes us to Beijing in 2050. Danielle Neighbour of the China Environment Forum at the Wilson Center highlights the benefits of coordinated water recycling for addressing water security in urban and rural settings. Kunal Desai: Success & Growth Factors In Your Trading Career In episode 83 of the Desire To Trade Podcast, I interview Kunal Desai, a day trader by day and industry leading instructor by night. He is the Founder and Lead Instructor at Bulls on Wall Street and has helped thousands of traders reach their trading goals through his unique live trading courses since 2010. I enjoyed seeing how passionate Kunal was about trading and helping people. He inspired me to work even harder when he said: "if you want to teach, you must be willing to work harder than your students".  More About Kunal Kunal began trading stocks during the Dotcom Boom, experiencing several ups and downs while growing his account and his knowledge of how the market works. It didn’t take very long for him to realize he had a passion for trading, and that he was particularly drawn to the excitement and profit potential of day and swing trading. While he grew his skill set through experience and self-education, it was mentorship under Paul Singh that really helped Kunal recognize his strengths and weaknesses, and develop a trading system that fit his personality and goals.  After years spent trading and developing a winning trading system, Kunal founded Bulls on Wall Street to teach others how to take control of their financial destinies. It started with a chat room where Kunal could talk about the stocks he was trading and watching, and a series of blogs and videos to provide market analysis. The site grew from there, as Kunal began using his experiences as a trader and teacher to hold webinars and live trading course sessions. After years of trading and honing his system, Kunal created the Bulls Bootcamp, a comprehensive trading course to impart everything he’s learned as a trader and provide the mentorship that was so helpful to him as a new trader.  Today, Kunal is still trading and teaching. He’s spoken at the Trader and Investor Summit, Traders4ACause gala event, been featured in numerous podcasts, and covered in the Huffington Post, BroBible, and Inc.com. In 2015, he spoke alongside market luminaries such as Peter Brandt, Jack Schwager, and James Dalton. I'd love if you can take a few seconds to leave a review on iTunes or Stitcher. I'm gonna get better every day, attack the process, and the results will come when they come. The minute you want the market to do something, it's gonna do the opposite. In This Episode, You'll Learn... Why Kunal follows volatility to decide what to trade Why making money doesn't mean you make good trades How Kunal built huge accounts and destroyed them How to be "in-the-game" (in the top 5% of traders) quickly How to spot the big moves in stocks How to spot what's working right now How to marry news with technical for a perfect match The biggest challenged Kunal's student face & how they overcome them The importance of mentorship in any endeavor And much more! Patrick Swayze goes crazy as the infamous “cooler” James Dalton when he’s hired to straighten out one of the most violent bars in ever down in Missouri. Dalton has an angsty and violent past he’d rather forget and put behind him. Unfortunately, the town is controlled by a millionaire and his thugs who seem to think blatant vandalism, arson and driving a monster truck through a car dealership are acceptable behavior. But when the going gets tough, the tough start ripping out throats! Dalton’s one man killing spree gets about as much attention from the local cops as the thugs’ shenanigans, leaving us free to enjoy the boobs that Kelly Lynch wouldn’t deliver last week as she has public sex with Dalton in the lake where he dumped his first victim.
