What's up everyone, Jungleman here with another episode that's gonna blow your mind about how gaming and poker are literally connected in ways you wouldn't believe. We dive deep into how gaming skills translate to poker mastery, and trust me, the parallels are INSANE.These champions share their journey from grinding video games to crushing poker, and how their competitive gaming background gave them an edge. From reading opponents and handling pressure to quick decision-making and strategic thinking - turns out those countless hours of gaming weren't just for fun. Fun fact: did you know I was obsessed with Command and Conquer before poker? That's actually where I developed my strategic thinking.Whether you're a gamer thinking about poker, or a poker player curious about how gaming skills transfer over, this episode is packed with insights that'll change how you think about both worlds. We've got Lex, Chidwick, Ninja, and more sharing their unique perspectives on how gaming shaped their poker careers. Jonathan Jaffe has taken the poker world by storm for nearly a decade. This Massachusetts native started his journey as a professional poker player after just one semester of college and quickly rose to prominence. Specializing in heads-up Sit & Go tournaments, he made a name for himself at 21 by clinching 2nd place in his first World Poker Tour event . The confidence and notoriety launched him into the realm of backing and coaching. A few years immersed in high-stakes live cash games followed, but as that chapter closed, he transitioned seamlessly into full-time coaching.September 2022 marked a new era as he ventured into the Triton Poker Series, instantly becoming hooked and committing to playing every Triton event even while continuing his coaching.Last year was a whirlwind of research for an upcoming book that delves deep into the high-stakes tournament scene, exploring its vibrant culture and colorful personalities. Bryan Pellegrino began playing online poker at 15, well below legal gambling age, using an account his dad set up for him. Over a dozen years, poker helped Pellegrino travel the world for tournaments and for fun. He accumulated more than $500,000 in World Series of Poker purses alone. He spent 10 hours a day, for years, clicking through a half-dozen hands at a time. He'd won a fortune in return. Feeling burnt out, Ryan left poker behind for entrepreneurship. Pellegrino is the Co-Founder & CEO at LayerZero Labs and has over 8 years of experience in the tech industry, with a focus on startups. "We just always referred to it as the Diaper, so (I) just kind of ran with it last year once I started (playing it). I wasn't getting aces, so I had to start playing two-three like I had aces," Rigby told PokerNews in 2023. After finishing 52nd in the 2021 Main Event for $136,100, Rigby returned to the 2023 WSOP and took the Main Event by storm with his Dirty Diaper. Jon Van Fleet joined the Americas Cardroom team in early 2021. The Austin, Texas native is no stranger to the world of online poker. Jon made a name for himself during the original online poker boom of the 2000s under the nickname ‘apestyles.' Just ask anyone who played online back in the day, and they'll tell you all about his inimitable playing style. Jon started playing poker around the time fellow ACR Pro Chris Moneymaker conquered the WSOP Main Event in 2003. In those days, Jon mostly played for fun with his fellow Texas Tech students. After quickly growing a modest $3,000 to a respectable $70,000 bankroll, Van Fleet bet he could go pro. And with more than $4 Million in multi-table tournament profits to date and close to $17 Million in total lifetime cashes, it's pretty clear ‘apestyles' wagered correctly. With a poker career spanning close to two decades, Jon's accomplishments are lengthy. Yet his most notable accomplishment was becoming the first-ever Partypoker Millions Champion. He walked away with $1,027,000 after crushing the $5 Million GTD online tournament back in 2017. Yet Van Fleet's biography is by no means a sob story. Rather, it's an inspirational tale about facing obstacles head-on, defying the odds, and overcoming adversity. With the help of his friends, the poker pro sought treatment. He now leads a healthy life that involves training, teaching, volunteering and playing poker. Van Fleet is also an accomplished writer and coach, having co-authored Winning Poker Tournaments One Hand at a Time. The popular three-volume book series has been called a masterclass in poker skill development. He also hosts online seminars on the game.
