POPULARITY
Earlier in his life, JuVan Langford played basketball professionally; he was an athlete of the highest order. Today, he still considers himself an athlete, not so much of sports, but more so of life; a coach of men as he describes it. Having endured his own struggles with depression, he understands the pain and the difficulty that many men go through on a daily basis. When you’ve seen these issues occur, and even personally battled them, it’s difficult to not take a stand. Today, known as the Global Voice of Men’s Empowerment, JuVan is the Founder and CEO of the MENtour, the educational workshops that help men to heal their pasts and work on their future.
Using Your Origin Story for Personal Growth This conversation with JuVan, like any and many I’ve had with him, was full of powerful nuggets and refreshing moments of clarity. He's a brother to me, he's a very, very close friend and I feel very fortunate to have him on the podcast here today. We talk about all sorts of things. We go into his journey. From a rough and challenging upbringing to where that took him wearing masks, hiding who he was trying to fit in and ultimately kind of abandoning himself and not really having an identity, to really starting to explore that, to challenging the beliefs that he had formed a bit himself and the world around him and going into a huge period of, that he's of course, still then as we all are, inquiry and curiosity as to who he is. As to why he's here, and in that, seeing the immense talent that he has and being determined to bring them to the world, support those who he can support. And so we talk about a few of the key things that challenge men, and we explore is identity. We explore intimacy and you know, also a bit of a personal story from there on JuVan and that one. And we also explore integrity, a favourite topic of ours here on the podcast. So all of that, and so much more for you to get into. Can't wait for you to hear this episode, as always remember, share with us where you're listening to this grab, do a screen, grab of your favourite part of the episode, share it on social media, tag JuVan and I, and let us know that you're listening to it. What you're getting out of it. Give us the feedback. Please send me DMs. I love receiving the stop that remember also where you get your podcasts like us, click subscribe, please give us a review and a rating. It helps us massively in getting this in front of more men who need it, who want it, who can benefit from it. And always remember whilst I love you listening to this and giving us the feedback, please don't just listen to it, do something with this information, whatever out of this, write that shit down, put it into your life. And then if you don't know him, reach out and ask. Professional Basketballer Juvan Langford realised his passion was actually something else - the devotion to helping men around the world got the next level bu adjusting their pre conceived masculine mindset. Adam MacDougall and Juvan talk about his journey to creating the MenTour and how it's changing lives for men and the communities around them.
ENTER INTO THE INTIMACY This week The Words With Oz Podcast welcomes JuVan Langford, co-founder of ManifestAus and TheMenTour. We asked JuVan to join us on the show because of the meaningful and important conversation that he is having across the globe. JuVan's specific question was: "Masculinity and masculine traits, good or bad, have been and continue to be celebrated and rewarded. It seems that in pursuit of what is deemed to be a ‘man’, many men are suffering, falling short and worse, being labelled ‘toxic’. What can we do to find and portray the positivity of masculinity?" JuVan and I spoke about his reasons for desired change, the deep theories he purports and what made him take the leap to move to Australia and drive this incredible movement. www: manifestaus.com IG: @JuVanLangford, @manifestaus Show Notes. 00.00 : 02.02 - Introduction and Advert 02.03 : 02.58 - WWO Intro 02.59 : 07.10 – Pack Up and Make the Shift. 07.11 : 12.29 – my leadership 12.30 : 20.50 – it’s a necessary delusion 20.51 : 32.59 – We, are not OK. 33.00 : 41.44 – Listen. In this Podcast you’ll learn: JuVan Langford’s core value in life and entrepreneurship. What’s *really* holding people back from achieving their goals. Why he does not care about his social media numbers, and what he focuses on instead. How he maintains high quality friendships in his life. The most important thing you should be taking care of as an entrepreneur (yourself). In a world where millions of likes, follows and subscriptions are the ultimate goal, having less than 100 may actually be more than you think. In a society that values productivity over health, your business is sick whenever you are. In times of challenge and conflict, sometimes your best display of strength is vulnerability. These are but some of the unconventional truths that have shaped our next guest, JuVan Langford, a lifestyle entrepreneur, business coach and global speaker on men’s empowerment. “If you are not happy with people around you—it’s not your people.” Sharing his nuggets of wisdom from social media to social living, learn how the founder of “The MENtour” lives, breathes and thinks about his purpose every single day. JuVan Langford is a men’s empowerment coach or as he describes himself “I do whatever it takes.” JuVan runs the Elevation Effect, a program specialized for men that he does all over the world. He has 2 coaching programs, the Elevated Man Academy and Choose Higher, both designed to support men. He also runs the Men Tour, where he works with middle-aged boys in schools across Los Angeles. And lastly, he has a YouTube video series called “Thought Life.” Simply put JuVan specializes in grooming the minds of men and boys. I brought JuVan onto the show because he has been transformational in my journey. I would not have been able to come forward with my sexuality, about being bisexual, if it was not for JuVan. I didn’t bring JuVan onto the show for only that reason, I know JuVan has been transformational to hundreds and thousands of men around the world, and I wanted you to hear from him directly. The Big Takeaway - Tell A Story that Serves You One of my favorite sayings that I’ve heard from JuVan again and again is: “If you’re going to tell yourself a story, we may as well tell ourselves a story that serves you and supports other people.” When we accept this mindset, we take responsibility for the story we’re telling ourselves. When we take on ownership of our story, we’re forced to confront the dark and scary parts of ourselves that are no longer serving us. For JuVan it was “I’m afraid of men”. Saying that was much easier than having to confront men. For me, it was much easier to live in secrecy and shame with my double life than to admit I had sexual attractions to men. When we take ownership of our story, we forced to confront these dark and scary parts of our past. By facing our past, we forced to resolve emotional wounds. Resolution creates space. And space creates new possibilities. This is the beginning of healing. The beginning of forgiveness. As JuVan said in the podcast, forgiveness is: “Forgiveness is letting go of the idea that things, including people, could have been any different than they were.” We must come to terms with the fact that things happened exactly as they were meant to be. And nothing should have occurred any differently. When we do this, we begin to accept. And acceptance leads to responsibility. Responsibility of the story we’re telling ourselves. There can be no movement forward with the weight of the past dragging us down. And in the cases we do move forward, it’s highly obstructed by the weight being dragged with us. When we become “100% responsible for 50% of anything we find ourselves in” - that’s when we begin taking ownership. Ownership leads to space. Space leads to healing. And healing leads to us telling a story that serves us. 7 Things You’ll Takeaway Key to breaking through your mommy/daddy issues, scarcity or financial barrier @ 6:20 The most influential person JuVan had growing up @ 9:25 The 4 pain points JuVan finds with men around the world @ @ 12:20 How we verbally abuse ourselves and how this shows up in relationships @ 15:45 How everything is available to you @ 26:20 The first step to clarity @ 28:30 Telling a story that serves you and forgiveness @ 32:30 And much, much more Contact JuVan Website Facebook Instagram @Juvanlangford Mentioned in the Podcast MenTour Elevation Effect Elevated Man Academy Thought Life - JuVan’s YouTube series Jay Wong

Effect on Emotions It's caused me to go from being an emotional man to being an emotionally intelligent man. What I mean by that is I'm taking personal responsibility for what I'm feeling and experiencing in my body and not making it out of somebody else's. Thoughts on Breathing People ask me about my morning routine and I say, I breathe. I breathe deeply, I breathe slowly, I breathe consistently. It's so important to fill our body with fresh air. Fresh air is everything to our body because it's healing and it's our job, our duty, my job, my duty and responsibility to heal my body on this journey into remembering who I truly am. App: Audible I'm on the go and I love listening to books, I love learning and growing. An Impactful Story I remember, in my junior year of college, my mentor, his name's Michael LeGace, I call him Pops. He's very much a father figure in my life. He came up to the campus. I went to Skidmore College. I was complaining how I didn't like the campus, it wasn't the school for me. I should have chose a bigger school. I should have chose a more diverse school. I should have chose a less expensive school. He said listen, you see that railing right there? Put your hand on the railing. We're going to call this the appreciation rail. Everytime you feel yourself being unappreciative for what you have, I want you to come here and remind yourself that you are a collegiate athlete, that you are a scholarship awards student. You have your family, you have your health, you have so much to be thankful for. You are at one of the top institutions in the world and you are doing a very good job. You may not have everything you want, but you are always covered. He went on and on and it nearly brought tears to my eyes. It was a very profound moment. Let's fast forward seven years later. I moved to California and I became a mentor to a young kid for the Tiger Woods Foundation. He was a UCLA student, a young Asian gentlemen, an amazing guy, a small guy. I was afraid I was not going to be able to connect with him on a deeper level, maybe culturally or maybe because he was more academic and I was more athletic focused. I had all these stories about why this was not going to work. I remember meeting him on campus and going for a walk. He was complaining about how he missed his family, he missed going to church on the weekends, and how the school's too big. It's a huge campus and I said, hey, let's take a walk. I bring him to a railing and in my mind I thought I was going to create the same moment and I told him, you have so much to be thankful for. You're a great kid and your family loves you and you get to visit them on the weekends. You can do this, and that ... and he said, OK JuVan. And he started walking away from me. And I said, well, that didn't go over the way that I thought it would. And the moment passed and you know what happened? Three weeks I received an email with a picture, a selfy with him with his hand on the railing and he said, JuVan, I just wanted to let you know that I visited the appreciation railing today and I'm so thankful to have you in my life. I wanted you to know that I heard you that day, I really did. It was a powerful, full-circle moment that we think that people need to get things in the moment and with patience and just being in service, you never know the impact you can create. You never know how many generations that will continue to go through, but just focusing and showing up for other people. That's why I love the work that I do. Traveling the globe, creating safe spaces for men, I love creating content, community and conversations that support men like myself, yourself and some of the men that are listening right now.
I recently had a phone call with one of my favourite coaches JuVan Langford, and during the conversation, he said, "are you selecting anything or being selective?" This question resonated with me a lot and thus I decided to create this podcast. There is a huge difference between selecting anything and being selective. When we select anything we take the next thing that shows up in our life - the next relationship, the next job, the next friend, the next boot camp and we don't select the thing that we WANT at our deepest desire. This is a major distinction. Let me say that again. This is a major distinction. Your goal can be to get fit or find a new healthier relationship but if you take the next workout that comes your way it's probably not going to be specific to the fitness goals you're trying to achieve. If you take the next man/woman who shows up in your life, they will probably not be the exact partner you dream about. This is where we must honour ourselves. Honour our needs, our wants, our deepest desires and be selective. Only when we're selective are we able to create the life we truly want. This will require two things of you - knowing what you want and saying "no" to all the distractions along the way. This will reinforce your new boundary. You will be tested again and again, tempted to go back to your old ways. You will be tested again and again, tempted to go back to your old ways. Friends will challenge your newfound convictions and you will question your new found beliefs. It's in these most you must hold strong. This is the moment where you are selecting what you want versus taking what shows up at your front door. Think of like an adventure where you get to find exactly what you want ;) Check out the podcast to hear more about being selective vs. selecting anything. In Episode Three of the show, Mike sits down in LA with YouTube creator and men's empowerment coach JuVan Langford. JuVan's personal story is one of challenge, adversity and vulnerability. He shares his path from a disrupted and challenging upbringing to becoming a man of strength, purpose and immense value, giving back and inspiring other men. This was a fun conversation to have, however, it was on short notice when I (Mike) was in LA, so while filming literally in a film directors house in the Hollywood hills, we ironically had limited camera equipment. This is to say, you'll see some shots of lower quality, but the conversation is of the highest order, so strap in and get your learn on.
