Now we're sat inside this smokey bar, Pouring out liquor for our broken heart. Met u at Somerset house in 2011, It was around then I was coming back as VoicemC. After the introduction, you asked me to spit u something, And u liked what I said and then you gave me ur encouragement. Passed me ur details, Said to get at u on the email, And send u my tunes and we'll catch up soon. You gave me ur time, truss me man that really helped me, To go on and cultivate my own self belief. No wondered they granted you an MBE, You made Britain exciting, There'll never be anyone like him! Renaissance Soul was originally a Detroit hip hop website started in 2001 by your host Kelly "K-Fresh" Frazier that first centered around the discography of legendary producer Jay Dee aka J. Dilla before it branched out to all Detroit hip-hop and music. In many cases, Renaissance Soul was the first place you heard many Detroit music artists that you love today. With it's revival as a podcast, each episode will focus on specific topics (an album, an era, a legacy, etc) from Detroit music of all genres from the past and present from a historical perspective. To start things off, a few of K-Fresh's friends from Detroit give their thoughts about the importance of Renaissance Soul. The Renaissance Soul Podcast starts November 7th with The Big Shoes Episode featuring Detroit hip hop artist Big Tone, followed by The Sponge "Rotting Pinata" 25th Anniversary Episode with Vinnie Dombroski, The Modern Tribe Records Era Episode with Wendell Harrison, and The Sincerely, Detroit Episode with Apollo Brown. The band is headed by Cailin Russo, who is the daughter of Unwritten Law’s Scott Russo. Along with Cailin Russo, the band, that only formed earlier this year, includes Tyler McCarthy on guitar, Hayley Brownell on drums and backing vocals and Sean Ritchie on bass. The band is pure fun and doesn’t take themselves too seriously with an indie pop/rock sound that is not only energetic, but funky. Russo’s EP, House with a Pool, is available now!
