This week on The Funny Thing About Yoga, we're joined by Charlotte Muller of Breathe Strength — yoga educator, studio owner, social media creator, and, like Giana, a fellow Long Islander. This conversation felt easy, heartfelt, and deeply relatable, beginning with nostalgic hometown connections and bonding over the experience of young parental loss.We talk about Charlotte's path to yoga through grief, opening a studio during COVID, navigating major life transitions, and finding herself in the midst of unexpected, exciting new beginnings as she moves through pregnancy.Charlotte's passion for yoga and fitness shines through, and hearing how she uses social media and her platform to share her love of theming, sequencing, and teaching is genuinely inspiring. From trusting you're exactly where you're meant to be, to noticing little signs, staying motivated when life hands you a whole lot of shit, making future plans, and embracing the messy beauty of building a life you actually want — this episode goes deep in the most grounding, human way.A warm, honest conversation about resilience, reinvention, and connecting with someone walking a surprisingly similar path.Find Charlotte Muller Online:instagram @breathe_strength tiktok @breathe_strengthwebsite www.breathestrengthwellness.com Want to support our podcast? November 30, 2025 – Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and lifetime Long Islander, Bill Bleyer, joins us in the time machine to walk the streets of Gotham past with his book, “The Roosevelts in New York City.” Among his previous books is “Sagamore Hill: Theodore Roosevelt’s Summer White House.” The Roosevelts story in America began with Nicholas Roosevelt, a farmer who arrived four centuries ago and planted the seeds of a distinguished and impactful family ― one with ties to many places in New York City. On East 20th St. stands a recreation of the brownstone where President Theodore Roosevelt was born and developed his love of nature. The twin brownstone next door was where his uncle, Robert Roosevelt, instilled in the future president an interest in conservation, while having multiple affairs and even starting a second secret family with a mistress. The double townhouse on East 65th Street built by Sara Delano Roosevelt still stands, built so that her son, President Franklin Roosevelt, would have a suitable place to raise his family. It also allowed her, as Bill Bleyer says, to keep him tied to her apron strings while she meddled in their lives. Her daughter-in-law — TR's niece, Eleanor Roosevelt — was driven to tears by having to live in a home that was not her own. Bill Bleyer details the unique places in the city where family members lived and worked and unveils the private interactions behind this famous American family. www.patreon.com/dopeypodcastThe teaser opens with you explaining the whole point of a Tuesday teaser: push listeners “like little dogs or lemmings” to Patreon, where the full episode lives. You pitch the Wednesday Patreon Zoom, the Saturday Zoom, the Recovery Zoom, the bonus videos and episodes, and joke about your inconsistent track record of scheduling Patreon Zooms. You welcome the massive influx of Billy Strings fans after the huge episode—Rolling Stone, People Magazine, Yahoo News, and a pile of country sites covered it. You read a handful of Spotify comments reacting to the interview: praise for Billy's vulnerability, your interviewing, people crying, people relating to losing their mothers, and some teasing about your age and your Soft White Underbelly appearance. You joke about the cinematic episode description likely being written by AI.Then you play a clip from last week's recording with Doug, where you two open packages at Katz's from German Dopey fans. A listener named Saul sends a long, heartfelt note about discovering the show via her boyfriend Jake, who listened to Dopey while working in German vineyards. They sent you spelt (“Dinkle”) cookies. Doug refuses to eat them because he's convinced they'll kill him before his hospital appointment. You accuse him of hating “gays and gluten.”The teaser then cuts to your and Doug's conversation about Tank Sinatra being the other “bald Long Islander” who recorded in your garage. Doug doesn't know who he is; you explain Tank's meme empire, his sobriety, Shark Tank appearance, his refusal to promote your episode, and your petty scorched-earth unfollow.Next you preview the beginning of the full Tuesday Patreon episode, where you and Doug get into reading Kevin Sherry's furious anti-AI email. Sherry says AI art is “repulsive,” “lazy,” “morally bankrupt,” “stealing,” and makes you look like you've “given up.” You and Doug riff on the bad AI portraits you've both received, debate AI vs real art, and joke that Sherry has an “autistic flair,” which Doug mishears and then corrects. Doug argues synthesizers and sampling were also hated when they arrived; you argue AI feels different but still fun to play with. The teaser ends with you thanking Saul for the cookies, apologizing again to Tank Sinatra for being petty, updating listeners that you now need glasses, and reminding them to join Patreon. You close with “Stay strong… and fucking toodles for Chris,” followed by a bit of a Dopey song. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. How debt and speculation financed the suburban American dream and led to today's inequalities In the popular imagination, the suburbs are synonymous with the “American Dream” of upward mobility and economic security. After World War II, white families rushed into newly built suburbs, where they accumulated wealth through homeownership and enjoyed access to superior public schools. In this revelatory new account of postwar suburbanization, historian Michael R. Glass exposes the myth of uniform suburban prosperity. Focusing on the archetypal suburbs of Long Island, Cracked Foundations: Debt and Inequality in Suburban America (U Pennsylvania Press, 2025) uncovers a hidden landscape of debt and speculation. Glass shows how suburbanites were not guaranteed decent housing and high-quality education but instead had to obtain these necessities in the marketplace using home mortgages and municipal bonds. These debt instruments created financial strains for families, distributed resources unevenly across suburbs, and codified racial segregation. Most important, debt transformed housing and education into commodities, turning homes and schools into engines of capital accumulation. The resulting pressures made life increasingly precarious, even for those privileged suburbanites who resided in all-white communities. For people of color denied the same privileges, suburbs became places where predatory loans extracted wealth and credit rating agencies punished children in the poorest school districts. Long Islanders challenged these inequalities over several decades, demanding affordable housing, school desegregation, tax equity, and school-funding equalization. Yet the unequal circumstances created by the mortgages and bonds remain very much in place, even today. Cracked Foundations not only transforms our understanding of housing, education, and inequality but also highlights how contemporary issues like the affordable housing crisis and school segregation have their origins in the postwar golden age of capitalism. Guest: Michael Glass (he/him) is a political and urban historian of the twentieth-century United States, with research and teaching interests in racism, capitalism, and inequality. Michael is an Assistant Professor of History at Boston College. Host: Jenna Pittman (she/her), a Ph.D. student in the Department of History at Duke University. She studies modern European history, political economy, and Germany from 1945-1990. Scholars@Duke: here Linktree: here Learn more about your ad choices. The 1970s were a tough decade for the New York Jets. After winning the Super Bowl in 1969, they quickly became the laughing stock in the NFL, unable to post a single winning season throughout the decade. But in 1981, four promising young defensive lineman changed everything. Mark Gastineau, Adbul Salaam, Marty Lyons and Joe Klecko became such a prolific force on the Jets defense that they earned the moniker ‘The New York Sack Exchange'. These players are the subject of the newest ESPN 30 for 30 Film 'The New York Sack Exchange' which debuted last Friday, and is available right now on ESPN +. Today Rich Cimini, a Jets beat reporter for ESPN, and a lifelong Long Islander, gives host David Dennis Jr. the inside scoop on the New York Sack Exchange. He describes the interpersonal tension that brewed alongside their incredible success on the field, and explores a legacy that persists to this day. Learn more about your ad choices.
