A religious studies school teacher who allegedly showed a caricature of Prophet Muhammed to his students during a lesson at Batley Grammer School has been placed under police protection, as per Mirror Online. There has been a second day of protests outside the school, which has meant that the school has been closed and students sent home. Typically, individuals will only be placed under police protection if there have been credible threats regarding their safety. Many people dream of winning the lottery. In 2009, a convicted rapist from Milton Keynes did just that, scooping over £2.5M. But everything wasn't quite as it seemed. This week, on the UK True Crime podcast, I tell that story - of brutal violence, sexual assault and greed. Remembrance commemorations have been very different this year - but they have been as special as ever. The Queen was at the Cenotaph on Remembrance Sunday and paid her respects at the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior wearing a mask in public for the first time.Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, stepped up into a bigger role while Harry and Meghan marked Remembrance Sunday in their own way in America.Pod Save The Queen host Ann Gripper is joined by Daily Mirror royal editor Russell Myers, who was in Westminster Abbey for the special Armistice Day service 100 years on from the burial of the Unknown Warrior. They also look ahead to the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations and share listeners' comments on the pictures of the Sussexes' "private" cemetery visit. And ahead of Prince Charles' birthday, Mirror Online lifestyle editor catches up with Age UK's Laurie Bolt about what he is like as a patron.
The Queen got out and about for the first time in months as she completed her first public visit since the coronavirus pandemic took hold. But her decision not to wear a mask on the visit to the science centre at Porton Down proved something of a talking point. Prince William and Kate have remained busy, and Stateside, Prince Harry and Meghan have made a series of appearances at virtual events - and posed for a new portrait. Pod Save The Queen host Ann Gripper is joined by Daily Mirror royal editor Russell Myers and Mirror Online fashionista Sarah Bradbury to catch up on what the royals have been up to - and wearing. They also talk the latest in court (legal, not royal) and Russell’s day out with Camilla.
The Duchess of Cambridge got her woggle on this week as she became joint President of the scouts. Kate headed for a day of activities with kids in west London to mark the occasion - and this week we're putting her work in the spotlight.Host Ann Gripper catches up with Rachel Drew, group scout leader of the 12th Northolt scouts, to see how the day had gone. Daily Mirror royal photographer Ian Vogler gives his verdict on the Hold Still exhibition the Duchess curated with the National Portrait Gallery, and Mirror Online lifestyle editor Zoe Forsey interviews Tracy Rennie, director of care at East Anglia Children’s Hospices, about what Kate brings to her work as patron, and catches up with Ann about the Cambridges’ latest adventures with Sir David Attenborough, in the East End and wearing face masks. Countless people suffer from an illness that affects their lives every day. Desperate for even just a modicum of reprieve from their illness, they turn to platforms like YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to see if there’s anything out there that might help. And on these platforms, it often takes them no time at all to encounter a segment that has seen an unprecedented rise in popularity over the years: Alternative Medicine. These videos and posts are usually by people who themselves have been impacted by the same illness. And they claim that the alternative remedy that helped them carried far less risk, and was far more effective, than treatments offered by modern medicine. It sounds appealing, and even a safe way to treat their illness. But the problem is, most of the people promoting these alternatives are either not licensed doctors, or simply promoting an alternative that’s a product they sell and make money from. In this episode, we dive into the world of Alternative Medicine. We discover the factors that have helped contribute to the rise in popularity, discuss the risks associated with this practice, shed light on who owns many of the alternative medicine products that are marketed as “Anti-Big Pharma.” And finally, we discuss what various researchers have found about the effectiveness of alternative medicine, from everything from extreme cleansing and other similar approaches, right down to the most basic daily multivitamins.
