Mark talks too long time friend and midwest blues guitar legend Billy Flynn. Billy Flynn was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin.[1][3] In 1970, a local blues club opened and Flynn was inspired by the music provided there by Luther Allison, Johnny Littlejohn and Mighty Joe Young. Flynn was fortunate to be spotted playing outside the venue by Jimmy Dawkins, who arranged for Flynn to play with him on stage.[4] Flynn joined Dawkins's backing band in 1975, and he played and toured with them until the end of the decade.Flynn also worked locally during this period and played alongside Sunnyland Slim. In the early part of the 1980s, Flynn was a member of the touring ensemble Jim Liban and the Futuramics.[4] In the late 1980s, he joined the Legendary Blues Band. He also played with Mississippi Heat. In addition to his own work and works mentioned later, he has worked and recorded with Bryan Lee, Little Smokey Smothers, Mark Hummel, Willie Kent, Snooky Pryor, Big Bill Morganfield, John Brim, Jody Williams, Little Arthur Duncan, Deitra Farr, and Billy Boy Arnold. In the next hour of The Roadhouse, the tracks all stick together. Rather than focusing on the age of the music, I pulled it together just by feel. Billy Branch & The Sons of Blues, Jontavious Willis, Too Slim and the Taildraggers, Mississippi Heat, and The Fabulous Thunderbirds make for an hour that makes musical sense. And, for all of that, it really may still be another hour of the finest blues you've never heard - the 803rd Roadhouse.

When we talk about packed editions of the show we mean ones like this week's. We start with Joel Fisk and the Breakdown and end with Johnny Winter, filling the space between with some great music... New releases from Johnny Burgin and Linsey Alexander. Lockdown Charity Singles from the Lockdown Lucky Band and your host too. Classics from Half Deaf Clatch, Magic Sam, Freddie King, Eugene Hideaway Bridges, Katie Bradley and Chris Corcoran, Buddy Guy, Brooks Williams, Mississippi Heat and much more, it's a packed show that you DO NOT want to miss!
This week, I drop a Roadhouse Rewind from 2014. I'll be back next week with a new edition. The 514th Roadhouse closes out the review of new releases in 2014 with Walter Trout, Trudy Lynn, Mississippi Heat, Missy Andersen, and The Duke Robillard Band. Surely, some of the names in this edition were unfamiliar to you until the year just past. It's definitely another hour of the finest blues you might have heard in 2014 - the 514th Roadhouse.

You know, I love new blues and I love bringing you new blues each week, but sometimes, you've just got to reach for a mood. That's definitely the case in this hour of The Roadhouse. John Primer, Toronzo Cannon, Mississippi Heat, Mud Morganfield, and Tommy Castro really help set the tone, and its one that may just have you up and moving throughout the hour. How about we just call this hour an indigo mood and another hour of the finest blues you've never heard - the 759th Roadhouse.

Harmonica Ace, Pierre Lacocque is the founder and leader of Mississippi Heat which has been a hallmark band in the Chicago area for decades and a franchise brand for the Delmark Record label. Pierre is from Belgium and began performing on the Chicago scene with greats like Sunnyland Slim and Jimmy Rogers during the 90’s. His group released their sixth studio effort with Delmark, Cab Driving Man, which has received rave fanfare and topped the blues charts for consecutive months. Their lead singer, Inneta Visor, a star in her own right, has cemented the bands vocal foundation for over a decade and has been nominated for a Koko Taylor Award.

Couch Kid New Music Harpdog Brown returns to The Couch for his third visit. This time he returns to share stories around the recording of Travelin With The Blues, which includes appearances by folks like Charlie Musselwhite, Kid Andersen, Rusty Zinn and more. Pierre Lacocque from Mississippi Heat takes a seat for the fourth time, he is one of my original kids first sitting on The Couch back in 2010 and returning in 2012 and then in 2014. This time it is to discuss the new release, Cab Driving Man. It’s always a blast with Pierre. Teresa James was scheduled a few weeks back, but fell ill…So we rescheduled to bring her back for her second visit. She returns to The Couch with her new album, Bonafide. It will be fun to catch up with this talented vocalist and learn what has been happening in her life and the recording of this new album. The Jimmys went to Transylvania to record a live album, and the results are fantastic. Jimmy Voegeli and I will sit and talk about all the adventures the band has has since his first visit in November 2015.

In this hour of The Roadhouse, I bounce back and forth between two real hot spots of blues: Chicago and San Francisco. I've got a lot of artists that you've heard of, but at least a couple who are new to the show. Frank Bang & The Cook County Kings, Rod Piazza & The Mighty Flyers, Aki Kumar, Cash Box Kings, and Mississippi Heat. They move us between Chicago and the West Coast and help guarantee another hour of the finest blues you've never heard - the 607th Roadhouse.
Take a good breath before this edition of The Roadhouse - you'll need all the oxygen you can get. For the 11th anniversay edition of the show, I've got an hour of show-openers from the previous year. Mississippi Heat, Dave Alvin & Phil Alvin, Andy Santana & The West Coast Playboys, Kentucky Headhunters with Johnnie Johnson, and Bill Perry make for the most upbeat edition of the past 12 months. It's the 573rd Roadhouse and the 11th anniversary of the finest blues you've never heard.

Murali Coryell was inducted into the New York State Blues Hall Of Fame in 2013 and was a 2014 BMA Nominee. He is a triple threat contemporary blues artist who can sing, write and play guitar. His new album is entitled Restless Mind and we will explore the life and career of this son of a legend as we hear his music. EG Kight’s musical style transcends musical boundaries and has been called “country-flavored southern-fried blues”. With a blend of americana, southern rock, blues, pop, jazz, gospel and funk, she is helping to shape contemporary blues. Her her latest album, A New Day, is to be released on September 16th, and she joins us to share the music early and discuss her wonderful career. Ernie Southern started his career in his teens as a New York "street corner" singer with well known Do-Wop acapella group Nick & The Knacks. He found the blues during his time in the US Navyy and then performed in rock bands before beginning to share the blues as a solo artist. He has competed in the Internatonal Blues Challenge along the way. I wil sit with Ernie and find out more about his career. Pierre Lacocque has taken a seat on The Couch twice already. The first time back in 2010 and then he returned when Mississippi Heat had new music, Delta Bound, in 2012. He returns tonight to share with us the about to be released, Warning Shot, which will be available on September 18th.
The 429th Roadhouse rewinds a great summer opener from 2010: Roadhouse 275. Mississippi Heat, Anders Osborne, Robert Belfour, Seth Walker, and Gina Sicilia take on the spirit of sunshine and great weather, propelling us through a summer hour of the finest blues you've never heard. Enjoy the rewind while I run the Cleveland Marathon. I'll be back next week with a new edition for the 430th Roadhouse.
With 12 cd releases and constant globe-trotting London-born Eddie Martin has been called "The Ambassador of British Blues". Nominated best UK Blues Guitarist, Best Harmonica Player, Best Band, Best Acoustic Artist and Best Blues cd release many times, his songs have made it onto TV and film soundtracks. Featuring funky blues harmonica, whisky stained vocals; slick guitar work and a solid rhythm section Corey Lueck and The Smoke Wagon Blues Band have been gaining momentum and new fans with every high energy performance. Formed in 1997, The Smoke Wagon Blues Band became crowd favorites in Hamilton, Ontario's famous Hess Village music scene, performing classic Chicago blues, New Orleans swing and original material. Mississipi Heat has a new album, Delta Bound which has reached #1 on Living Blues Magazine and #2 on The Radio News Report and the top 10 on the Roots Music Charts. Past guest, Pierre Lacocque joins me to talk about the new album and where Mississippi Heat is going in 2013. Finally, an old friend of The Couch's comes back with new music. Dusty from Robodrum will share their new album, Big Bad Wolf, which has seen limited release but is about to be relased nationwide. Dusty and I will talk about the recent changes in the band and their plans for 2013. Plus a 2012 review
The 394th Roadhouse continues to debut much of the fall lineup of new blues. I've got new releases from Mississippi Heat, Smokin' Joe Kubek, Michael Hill's Blues Mob, Deanna Bogart, and Ian Siegal & The Mississippi Mudbloods. And, just to keep a finger on the touchstone, a set of traditional blues, as well. The 394th hour of The Roadhouse really is another hour of the finest blues you've never heard.
There's an avalanche of new blues in this edition of The Roadhouse. More than three-quarters of the show is music that's been released in just the past two weeks. Mississippi Heat, Robert Cray, Magic Slim & The Teardrops, Taj Mahal, and Albert Collins make up the headliners in the hour, but they're just part of an exceptional hour of blues - an exceptional hour of the finest blues you've never heard: the 393rd Roadhouse.
