Every Monday at 2 p.m., he plans the task he is most likely to delay finishing. And to keep from becoming too busy, he even sets his daily activities, like walking his dog and eating lunch. If workers have a hard time saying no, they can write down what to say beforehand. And it can also help to say it out loud. Cara Houser is a workplace engagement coach. She says workers do not always have to explain themselves when turning down a request. They can simply explain they are not available, thank the person for asking, and suggest when they might be available. Amber Krasinski grew up in a working-class environment where saying "no" to a manager could mean losing pay. As the founder of marketing company IvyHill Strategies, Krasinski worries that she will lose business if she turns down a project. So, she often says “not yet” when one more project is too much. “That phrase has helped me through a lot of situations,” she said. When asked for help, workers may want to agree immediately. However, when faced with a new work request, it can be better to take time before answering. Use the time to consider such things as workload, energy level, and interest. Israa Nasir is a psychotherapist in New York. She suggests that workers pay attention to the activities and interactions that leave them feeling tired or stressed. Those kinds of events can be put on a “No List” to be dealt with later. Experts say that just because mobile devices can keep people connected to work all the time, they do not have to interfere with a person's non-working life. For example, Nasir said she found herself checking email far too often on weekends. So, during weekends, she moved the Gmail app from her iPhone's homepage to the second page. This extra step helped her avoid checking her email. Experts also suggest using an email signature as another tool to manage expectations. This tool can include more than just your name and contact information. You can also use it to let others know your working hours or upcoming vacation plans.

The holidays can be a magical time, but for many busy moms, they bring stress, overwhelm, and exhaustion. In Episode 211 of The Secrets of Supermom Show, Lori Oberbroeckling, mom of four, corporate leader, and author of Secrets of Supermom: How Extraordinary Moms Succeed at Work and Home—and How You Can Too, shares three simple steps to reduce holiday stress and bring back the joy.Step 1: Identify Your Shoulds and Have-TosLori suggests starting with a “Holiday Yes List” and a “Holiday No List.” Focus on activities that bring joy and eliminate those that feel like obligations or drain your energy. By identifying what excites you and letting go of what doesn't, you can reclaim the magic of the season.Step 2: Plan Your PrioritiesTo ensure your favorite traditions happen, schedule them on your calendar. Whether it's decorating the tree, baking cookies, or attending a festive event, intentional planning ensures your most meaningful activities take center stage. For tasks on your “No List,” consider delegating, outsourcing, or skipping them entirely.Step 3: Protect Your EnergyThe holiday season can be demanding, so prioritize habits that keep you energized. Schedule time for self-care, whether it's getting enough rest, staying active, or enjoying quiet moments to recharge. Eliminating energy drains and focusing on energy boosts will help you stay present and joyful.By following these steps, you can transform the holidays into a season of joy, connection, and magic. For the show notes and all the links mentioned in today's episode, head to secretsofsupermom.com/211.Stay connected!Join us in The Supermom Society! In fact, he sold $120k worth of software within his first 6 months of joining the program. Since he was already a consultant, doing idea extraction and finding pain points for businesses was second nature. He just knew nothing about software before so just added a new weapon to his arsenal. (Without learning how to program.) He's a natural born salesman if there ever was one. On this call we get into just one of his pre-sales successes, but they follow a similar pattern: identifying an expensive pain, and solving it with software. It'll definitely get your gears turning! In this episode, you will learn how to: Analyze and prioritize your to-do lists and daily schedule for maximum impact Say no to the things that do not serve you and create space for the things that do Audit your calendar Increase productivity so you can complete the RIGHT things Do you find yourself running out of time at the end of the day for the things you want to accomplish?  We are busier than ever, but time is the great equalizer. Think about it! You have the same hours in the day as any number of successful people-- so let's dial in how we can make the most of it!  Family. Friends. Our phones. Social Media. Work obligations…the list can go on and on with all the good things we fill our time with but also, the things that drain us of our energy and resources, leaving us depleted and unable to focus on what truly matters to us!  Let's evaluate all the things on our plate and decide which things can stay and what stories, feelings, or tasks need to be eliminated. Here is the hard truth: if you want success in any area of your life, you need to say NO to many, many things. The success you have on any given thing is directly connected to how tight your focus is. By saying YES to one thing, you have to say NO to many others.  Today, I will be giving tips and tricks to regaining power over your schedule (and ultimately your life!) by creating the Yes/No list to establish clear boundaries on what will move us forward and what is holding us back from truly living the lives that we dream of!  Action Steps: Get out a piece of paper. Fold it vertically, and on one side write YES and on the other side, NO. (15:58)  Start with the things that you are saying YES to. It can be an action, a story you tell yourself, where you spend your time, a feeling or emotion….do these things currently serve you and your best interests? If not, shift it over to your NO list! What are you saying NO to? Be intentional!   Open your calendar, look at what you had on your schedule a week back and look a week ahead. What is on there that should not be and what is missing that should be there? Show me your calendar (and your bank account) and I will show you your priorities. Take an honest look at where your time is going!!! If something is truly important to you, you schedule and make time for it. It will show up on your calendar if it REALLY matters! What is on there out of obligation or habit? Change accordingly!   Suggested Reading:  The ONE Thing: The Surprisingly Simple Truth Behind Extraordinary Results (14:15) Gary Keller https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1885167776/ref=as_li_qf_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=thesparknow20-20&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=1885167776&linkId=09403bdab13aee213572934ae4a080f9   Millionaire Success Habits: The Gateway to Wealth and Prosperity (20:33) Dean Graziosi https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1401956874/ref=as_li_qf_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=thesparknow20-20&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=1401956874&linkId=f6cf44b5298ae1060b1f7e0338c989fd

Sally Hepworth loves her fans. She loves hearing how they think about her work, and like anyone, she's partial to a bit of praise every now and then! However, as her following has grown over the years, the amount of people seeking pockets of her time has become overwhelming. And as a writer, Sally knows that the only way she can continue to produce great work is to protect that writing time as diligently as she can. It takes discipline, and it can be hard to turn down a conversation with a reader, but it's the only way she can keep on producing. One way Sally protects her time is with her now infamous “No List,” a carefully constructed collection of things she'll always say no to, even if they're enticing.  Connect with Sally on Twitter or InstagramYou can find the full interview here: Sally Hepworth on her No List, Brain walks and the Nifty Three Fifty rule***Connect with me on the socials:LinkedinTwitterInstagram  If you're looking for more tips to improve the way you work, I write a fortnightly newsletter that contains three cool things I have discovered that help me work better, which range from interesting research findings through to gadgets I am loving. Cookbook fans, I wonder how much you know about how the beloved cookbook came to be? Did you know it was in 1845? Have you ever heard of its creator Eliza Acton? Or what about the fact that the only reason poet Eliza ever wrote and revolutionised the modern cookbook was because she was told poetry wasn't the business of a lady? It's a great yarn and it's the subject of a new novel – The Language of Food. The book is written by historical novelist Annabel Abbs. Annabel joined Francesca Rudkin from the UK. LISTEN ABOVE

Saying no, is something you need to add as a healthy boundary.  You can't do it all.  You can  say no for your loved one.  You can say no for yourself.  You can say no to sustain your energy.    Here are my some key No statements I live by.    As you listen, consider which one fit you or which ones spark ideas for you. Say NO to stress overload  What is causing excess stress?  What can you do to reduce it?  Realize that stress overload will lead to burnout and further health issues for you.  Say NO to dangers and threats .  You may have to take a hard stand for your loved one when it comes to their safety.Say NO to guilt.  You have to take care of yourself and put yourself first.  You are doing the right thing by making prioritizing your health physically and mentally.   Release your guilt.  It's important to stop the negative thoughts of guilt and shameYou are allowed to rest and relax You are allowed to enjoy your passions and goalsSay NO Negativity and toxicity   This one is hard if this is your loved one.  It may require you to practice responses and situations and even having hard conversation.  When you let in negativity and toxic people, it will bring you down.  I personally will not allow it.  It sounds harsh but I have learned I can't Say NO for your loved one.   You may have to say no to visitors or people that may bring in a cold or covid.   Be appreciative that they want to visit, but it may have to wait.   You may have to have hard conversations with doctors, family, members etcSay NO to your reality and being ok staying still    You have a choice to stand still and not change.  You have a choice to wait until it's all doneYou have a choice to step into your new reality and make changes for the betterDon't talk yourself out of changeWhen you shift your thoughts and actions, it will feel uncomfortableDo you want to feel stuck and stressed or do you want a life of joy and gratitude? I want to end with this analogy….  As a toddler, we wanted to explore everything, touching things, putting things in our mouth, and testing everything.  What words did we hear all the time….. No.  No. No.    Little toddlers then start mimicking these words and start saying them too.  But a toddler never stops exploring.  They keep going and finding new things to explore.  If mom tell him/her no, don't touch that, they move on to another thing.  As a caregiver, keep going.  Stand strong on your no and figure out what yours are.   They are your healthy boundaries and expectations.
