On the 15th of July, 2009, 30 year old former journalist Teoh Beng Hock walked into the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s Selangor headquarters in Shah Alam, Malaysia. He was there on investigation for suspected misuse of public funds, and was called in as a witness. However, things would take a turn when he didn't return home later that evening, and in fact, CCTV cameras showed that he never left the building. Instead, he would be discovered the next afternoon nine floors below the MACC's office, sprawled on the fifth floor balcony, in a pool of his own blood. Part 1 - We dig into Teoh Beng Hock's profile, his political involvements, and why he was called in to the MACC headquarters on that fateful day. Part 2 - We look into the curious statements put out by the MACC themselves regarding the incident, and the blowback that ensued from the tragic incident. TALK TO ME, TEXT ITEver find yourself pondering the true value of art or navigating the shifting sands of family traditions? This episode kicks off with a personal story of how our family Thanksgiving tradition took a modern twist this year. Our daughter took charge of hosting in her new home, and we delighted in being guests for once, savoring her delicious turkey and the company of family and friends. As we savor the nostalgia and anticipation of the holiday season, we couldn't resist a lively discussion about the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and the joys of decorating for Christmas. From heartwarming family moments, we switch to the intriguing tale of a 74-year-old New York City fruit vendor whose simple banana morphed into a viral art piece, sparking conversations about fairness and value in the art world. The banana, though sold for a staggering $6.2 million, left the vendor, Shah Alam, without a penny. It's a story that questions the absurdity of art valuation and the complexities of compensation. To round out the episode, we tackle a listener's challenge with an overbearing friend, offering practical advice on setting boundaries inspired by classic advice columns. Welcome back to another episode of Science of Slink! Today we are talking about how to stay motivated as a home poler. In this episode I talk about the most common motivation that men and women have for exercising, how home based exercise programs compare to center based programs, and how motivation can change depending on your age. I also talk through how to build self-efficacy as you are learning new skills on and off the pole. Whether you are new to pole or not, sometimes our motivation can change. Heading into 2024, it's important for parents to know where they can get care products for their babies in a timely, convenient manner with reasonable prices. However, in practice that isn't always easy. Parents Jesmine and Sean Tan were looking for Safe, Natural and Organic products for their own daughter back in 2011 when they realized that having to resort to importing such brands cost heavy postage fees. This led them to create Applecrumby in 2012. Applecrumby then went on to be part of the second batch of startups that made it to 500 Global's Distro Dojo program in 2016, where they secured seed funding worth US$300,000 from the VC. Now, Applecrumby has an e-commerce platform that has their own homegrown in-house brand of baby products. They have baby products such as diapers, wipes, skincare, cleaning products, and toothgel that are catered to parents who wish to have the option of Safe, Natural and Organic (S.N.O) baby products for their children. More recently, Applecrumby had also opened its first store-in-store in Shah Alam in a partnership with Daggeebaby. So today on Open For Business, we spoke to Sean Tan, CEO & Co-Founder and Jesmine Tan, COO & Co-Founder of Applecrumby on their business journey since 2012 and what the future holds for their business.

Squash and flag football will be in the 2028 LA Olympics after years of dedicated efforts by their respective organisations, with this announcement generating considerable excitement within the sports community, as both aim to make a significant impact in five years time.Turning our attention to squash by the time 2028 arrives, the top male and female players will be at the pinnacle of their performance. Judging by the impressive showing of the squash team at the recent Asian Games, the dream of winning an Olympic gold medal may not be as far-fetched as it once seemed. Joining us on the line is Sharon Wee, a former national squash player and the current vice president of the Squash Rackets Association of Malaysia, as we begin our discussion by exploring whether this news has been a long time in the making. After that, we set our sights on flag football, a non-contact version of american football, which has been steadily gaining popularity over the years, with the scene in Malaysia no exception. Just this past weekend, the inaugural IFAF Asia-Oceania Continental Flag Football Championship took place in Shah Alam, with Thailand and Japan emerging as champions. Leading the way is the Malaysia American Football Association, and we are joined by its vice president, Kelly Khor, as we delve into the details of this recent development.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
La Porta | Renungan Harian Katolik - Daily Meditation according to Catholic Church liturgy
Delivered by Cynthiana Santos from the Church of Divine Mercy, Shah Alam, Malaysia; Romans 7: 18-25a; Rs psalm 119: 66.76.77.93.94; Luke 12: 54-59 OUR BODY IS GOD'S DWELLING PLACE The theme for our meditation today is: Our Body is God's Dwelling Place. One of the reasons why the city of Rome is beautiful and romantic is because it is full of ancient works of art that focus on the beauty of the human body. In many places there are statues of naked ancient people, including the emperor Marcus Aurelius. It is not uncommon for people to capture their photos with nude statues with muscular or attractive curves in the background. It's not uncommon for tourists to be amazed with the expression: Oh... what a body! The effects of body glorification include, among other things, inclination to the pleasures of the flesh where the human bodies of men and women are not seen as sacred but merely objects for the satisfaction of pleasurable desires. This style was very inherent in the Roman Christians faced by Saint Paul. As a teaching to bring them to a new orientation in following Christ, Paul firmly taught that all parts of his body greatly tormented the movements of his mind and soul which were straight towards God. He wanted to just turn off all parts of his body, to give his mind and soul the freedom to focus on God alone. According to Saint Paul, the person who played a major role in that liberation was Jesus Christ. He has proven it by dying on His own body, the body of sinful mankind, and the body of this world which has been possessed by sin. So Paul wanted to follow the example of Jesus Christ. The statues in the city of Rome remain in their respective places, they do nothing to the eyes of the one who sees. The thoughts and feelings of the one seeing move as they please, which, as people say, a temptation to sin. Let us pay attention to this reminder: Oh...the sacred human body, God chooses to live in it. Don't waste energy and time worshiping one's own body or even exploiting other people's bodies. But use the best possible energy and time to look after and care for your own body, because in a healthy and positive body, there is a soul that is radiant and open to praising God. Following Saint Paul, we should not pamper our bodies just for pleasures of the world. We must maintain it responsibly, because God chooses to live in it. Together with St. Paul, may we feel that we should not let our attention or focus on the body become excessive, resulting in the debt to pay attention to the soul ultimately getting bigger. Jesus asks that our souls be given attention, because He will stand before the final court to demand the accountability of our lives. After eliminating this debt, our souls can only be freed from the obstacles of the bonds of the desires of the world, and then we will enjoy salvation. Let's pray. In the name of the Father... God Almighty, abide always within us, so that our hearts always experience joy and peace. Hail Mary full of grace... In the name of the Father... --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/media-la-porta/message

Coming up soon is a conversation that summarizes differing opinions and consolidates similar views on architecture education, in particular, where Lok Wooi and others had deliberated and debated in previous Clubhouse audio platforms and other face-to-face events in the past decade. Lok Wooi's concerns about the potential of younger architects and graduates are very much in evidence of how he thinks and the numerous engagements with a number of public and private universities in Malaysia.Lok Wooi's architecture philosophy is influenced by "the authentic and sustainable way of life in the villages", and much of his work is based on the interpretation of the use of timber and natural materials. For years now, Stadium Shah Alam has been plagued with structural issues due to a lack of proper maintenance, so much so that the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) deemed the iconic landmark unsafe, forcing their home team, Selangor FC to move out for this season's Super League. Last year, the Shah Alam City Council released its draft local plan for public consultation. In it, was a proposal to build a road right across the Shah Alam Community Forest, which would permanently destroy about two hectares of pristine rainforest, hundreds of trees and species, and all the forest trails many have come to love. But a new study has found that the area has been wrongly designated as development land, and is in fact still part of a Permanent Forest Reserve. We find out more about this study and why the Selangor state government should pay attention to the findings. Image Source: Shah Alam Community Forest (SACF) Facebook Group (Kc Leong)

The Centre recently conducted a study recently on transit deserts, which are areas with little to no access to public transport. While the study was focused on Shah Alam, it gives us some interesting insight on how data about transport networks and income levels may inform cityplanners' decisions about improving connectivity.
Connect with me: https://thesoccersidelines.com/connect/What are solidarity payments, why do we have them, and how do they work? Do they work at all in the United States? Let's talk through a use case.In this episode, we share some recent news, then jump into the concept of solidarity payments. Specifically, we talk through the case of DeAndre Yedlin, featuring Crossfire Premiere, FIFA, USSF, and the MLS. At the end of this episode, I hope that the concept of solidarity payments (and training compensation) are a little more clear. May 27, 2015 - Shah Alam, Malaysia: Tottenham Hotspurs play the Malaysian Selection soccer team in a friendly match at the Shah Alam Stadium in Malaysia. The English Premier League football club is on their Asia-Australia tour.COVID-19 Impact on the GameWPSL and ODP have both suspended their summer programming & are looking forward to the Fall. Expect to see more delayed openings and Summer impact across the US. As the country re-opens, it will likely be uneven and state or regionally based. The game of soccer is a social game. Not only do we have 22 players on the field, but we have active and very social sidelines. Part of the joy of the game is playing and chatting with others in concentrated fields and sideline environments. It'll be impossible to do social distancing with players and nearly impossible to social distance on the sidelines. Kids are at home and many are not working out regularly. A big question in my mind as a coach, is how can we keep our kids engaged and active? This is when super coaching and parental support can play a big role. Please: support the show and join our community as a Patron through my Patreon pageWhat is Training Compensation? From MLCSoccer.com: "Under the FIFA Regulations, when a player registers as a professional for the first time in a country other than the one where he did his training, the club with which he registers is responsible for paying Training Compensation to every club that contributed to his training, starting from the season of his 12th birthday through the season of his 21st birthday. Additionally, Training Compensation is due on a player's subsequent international transfer through the season of his 23rd birthday to his immediately prior professional club."These exist as a way to incentivize youth clubs to do their best at developing players, to invest in the development environment, and to earn some rewards for the effort. The US system is largely paid for by parents, sponsorships, and charitable donations. Is it fair for US-based clubs to also get training compensation and/or solidarity payments? Is this "double dipping" or getting paid twice to develop youth, or is this a system we should consider embracing - possibly phasing out high family costs? What are Solidarity Payments in US Soccer? From MLSsoccer.com: "Under the FIFA Regulations, any time that a professional player is transferred (whether on a temporary or on a permanent basis) from a club in one FIFA member association (i.e., a federation) to a club in another federation during the course of his contract, up to five percent of the transfer fee is to be withheld and paid by the club receiving the player proportionally to the club(s) involved in that player's training during the years between his 12th and 23rd birthdays. Unlike Training Compensation, which is only paid for players who have not yet reached the end of their age-23 season, Solidarity Payments will be due for the duration of a player's professional career, any time he is transferred between federations while under contract and a transfer fee is paid."What are Your Thoughts? This is an issue with lots of arguments and interesting positions. Any time money is at the center, things like Training Compensation and Solidarity payments are going to be contentious. Is it time to embrace a more European style of funding the game? Should we consider instead Norway's model?

In this episode of Travels Through Time we join one of the world’s leading historians, William Dalrymple, who takes us on a tour of 1764 to try and explain how the East India Company became “An empire within an empire” The history of the East India Company is astonishing. Leo Tolstoy once wondered: How could a commercial company from London manage to enslave a nation comprising 200 million people on the other side of the world? With the battlefields of the Seven Years War still smouldering across the globe, we journey to the edges of the Moghul Empire along the banks of the Ganges to visit 1764, a year of bloodshed and confusion; a year that would change the history of India forever. William Dalrymple is a British historian and writer, as well as an award-winning broadcaster and critic. His books have won numerous awards and prizes, including the Duff Cooper Memorial Prize, the Thomas Cook Travel Book Award, the Sunday Times Young British Writer of the Year Award, the Hemingway, the Kapuściński and Wolfson Prizes. He has been five times longlisted and once shortlisted for the Samuel Johnson Prize for non-fiction. He is also one of the co-founders and co-directors of the annual Jaipur Literature Festival. His latest work, discussed here, has been described by the Guardian as: “…not just informative but as colourful as a Maratha army in full battle array, as boisterous as a Calcutta boarding house in 1750, and as entertaining as an evening of poetry and music in a Delhi palace.” Show notes: Scenes: February, 1764, Avadh. After years of being played against each other and picked off by the East India Company, Mir Qasim, Shah Alam and Shuja ud-Daula meet in Avadh to unite forces against the Company. 3 May, 1764. The combined forces of the army reach the fortified walls of Patna, an ancient city on the banks of the Ganges. The army of 150,000 warriors comes face to face with 19,000 East India Sepoys. 22 October 1764: The Battle of Buxar, a pivotal moment in history, between the forces under the command of the British East India Company, led by Hector Munro, and the combined armies. Memento: One of Mir Qasim’s treasure chests, abandoned on the fields of Buxar. Historian, travel-writer and bestselling author William Dalrymple, talks to the Oldie's Editorial Assistant Ferdie Rous about the rise of The East India Company, corporate violence and imperial nostalgia.Dalrymple's new book, The Anarchy: The Relentless Rise of the East India Company, is published by Bloomsbury. The book tells two stories: the rise of the East India Company and the fall of the Mughal Empire. The latter had dominated the subcontinent for over three centuries by the time that the company arrived on Indian shores.Note: the Diwani, referenced at (22:45), later known as the Treaty of Allahabad, was a permit granted by Shah Alam, in 1764, to the East India Company that allowed them to tax the provinces of Bengal, Bihar and Orissa.
