As a military spouse navigating frequent moves and identity shifts, Isabel's resilience and heart-centered approach to leadership is nothing short of inspiring. We also explore:The difference between masculine and feminine energy in leadership (and why you need both)How soft skills like compassion, gut instincts, and collaboration are actually power skillsWhat it looks like to lead without the title—and why it mattersIsabel's biggest lessons in self-worth, healing, and doing the hard things scaredWhether you're leading a team or simply trying to lead your own life with more intention, this episode will open your heart and mind to a new way of defining success.RESOURCES:Connect with Isabel Churchill:Website: www.isabelschurchill.com/englishInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/isabelchurchill1111/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/isabelchurchill1111Join the Strong and Resilient Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/336774597179247SHOW NOTES: https://www.christinamattisonyoga.com/blog/episode65Connect with me in the Strong and Resilient Woman Community on Facebook HERE (https://www.facebook.com/groups/yogaformilitarywomen), or on Instagram @themilitaryyogiMore about Christina Mattison and the Leading with Heart PodcastHey there! We can learn a lot from history and luckily as humans we can learn to progress and right our wrongs, to be more ethical or helpful. In regards to caring for children, in the past we used restraint techniques when a child was displaying negative behavior and some were even paddled! In fact I was stunned to learn that, as of 2022 paddling is legal and being practiced in 15 U.S states. You don't need hard scientific evidence to know this isn't right. My guest Kim Hopkins joins me to talk about safer, kinder techniques we can use with our children to help them learn effectively. The topics we cover in this episode are:Old school restraint techniques and how we feel about them nowWhy do some kids have such concerning behaviors? What happens when kids lack skillsWhat is an upstream model? How being a parent can change you as a therapistWhy rewards and consequences don't work for some kidsThe great side of teenagersModeling and how you can use your power differently as the parent / adultWhat length of time does the modeling technique take? Compared to previous generations, today's children have more homework, more adult-led activities and less free time to just play. According to psychologist Dr Peter Gray, this is a worrying trend that is having a negative impact on society. Dr Gray's research shows that free-play is an important part of child development. It's where they learn things like courage, creativity and social skills. In this interview, Dr Gray explains why it's important for parents to step back and let their kids play, even (and sometimes especially) if it involves risk. What you'll learnWhy Dr Gray decided to specialise in free-playHis research into The Sudbury Valley School in Massachusetts, where the children design their own curriculumWhat are the key features in the Sudbury education philosophy?Mixing kids of all ages togetherStaff are voted in by the studentsAll decisions need to be approved by a committee of students and staffAbout Dr, Gray's book: Free to learnHow child-led play helps children develop important life skillsWhat are the negative impacts of too much adult-led education and playInternal versus external locus of control More informationShow notes and links to resources mentioned in this interview are available at https://thedadtrain.com/42

"When parents are parents, kids can be kids" sounds easy right? Yet it's not easy to know how to be a parent who sets clear boundaries and creates a safe container for kids to grow, mature and feel all the feelings life throws at them in a healthy way. Luckily, Krissy Pozatek, MSW, joined me for an enlightening conversation on doing just that. Krissy is the author of "The Parallel Process," a book all parents who have a child in treatment need to read, and is also a parent coach who offers an online program and online coaching sessions. With over 15 years of working with teens and young adults in a variety of therapeutic settings, Krissy offers so much insight during this conversation, including:Why rules are actually freeing to your teenThe danger of smoothing the way for your teens and not allowing them to feel bored, sad, confused or angryWhat parents need to do to help their child when they're struggling (probably not what you think)How some kids will only learn from life and why it's important to let go of the reinsWhy kids coming home from treatment programs can slip back into old behaviors if parents haven't cleaned up their skillsWhat enmeshment really meansWhy things may get worse before they get better when parents change their actionsHow all feelings are just informationWhat attunement is and why it's importantWhy it's important for your teen to not be happy all the timeComplete episode transcript and show notes here.If you're a mom who needs strength and support while your child is experimenting with or addicted to drugs or recovering from addiction, please join our private online community, The Stream, at www.brendazane.com/thestream.Download my free ebook “HINDSIGHT: 3 Things I Wish I Knew When My Son Was Addicted to Drugs
Everyone has ideas. Everyone is an inventor. Only a small percentage pursue developing an idea into a business. Engineering seems to produce a disproportionate amount of entrepreneurs. Why do so many of the titans we respect come from technical backgrounds?Forget about inventors wishing for patents or hopefuls dreaming of licensing agreements. We are talking about starting, growing, and running a business. We are talking about transforming an idea into reality. Why do engineers succeed?Engineering is hardCuriosity. How things work.Ability to see problemsProblem solvingEngineering is applied science and math to create something or solve a problemOnce a technical person understands that a business is a formula means to solve a problem profitably, consistently, and with the ability to scale. SkillsEarly entrepreneurs and startups flounder due to lack of professional-grade skills. Engineers come with skillsWhat are the obstacles?Enamored with ideasFocusing on developing the product versus the businessLittle business experience or have an outright aversion to businessLow tolerance for risk and uncertainty
We're coming out of lockdown slowly here in the UK, and I've noticed a lot of conversations recently about social eating. For people who have been on a weight loss journey, there's a lot of worry that they will "fall off the wagon" and overeat, then start up the bad habits of overeating again.Social situations are rich in cues and triggers to overeat. Consider all the smells and visuals of food around you, the unconscious habits that may have you reaching for the wine on the table without even thinking or the places that you may find yourself ordering a piece of cake without even thinking about it. And that's not even mentioning 'food pushers' (those lovely people who offer us food or drink, or the people who we often find we break our promises to ourself and eat off-plan).In today's episode we discuss:the problem with being focussed on how you've behaved around these foods before (past focussed)the triggers that you may find come up for you when you're eating out of the househow to plan for success before you go so you can stay on track and practice being a new way around these foods and peoplethe benefit of taking on a student or learners mindset to practice these new skillsWhat did you think?
