He is the bestselling author of Recharge, and has been recognized by TIME, LinkedIn, RockHealth, and NYU Stern for his leadership in digital health. What you'll learn:How David transitioned from gaming to healthcare through mission-driven insightThe real story behind Calm's evolution from sleep and meditation to global mental healthWhy David uses “battery level” as a tool for checking in at workHow leaders can model vulnerability without sacrificing authorityWhy burnout stems from poor workload management, not just long hoursThe power of shared purpose in turbulent timesHow Calm uses rituals like Jay Shetty meditations and Zoom-free days to reinforce its cultureWhy sleep, diet, and presence are core to David's leadership performanceHow transparency builds trust even when the news isn't goodWhy the conversation around mental health needs to start at the topSome takeaways:➡️ Stress is not the problem. Unchecked, unacknowledged stress is. Good stress can fuel resilience and performance.➡️ “How's your battery?” is a more meaningful check-in than “How are you?”➡️ Burnout often comes from lack of clarity and excessive task stacking, not too many hours.➡️ Leaders must explain the why behind priorities and remove as much as they assign. ➡️ Transparency about culture survey results builds psychological safety. ➡️ Rituals like 90-second meditations help reset and re-center teams. ➡️ Leadership can be lonely. Trusted colleagues make a critical difference. ➡️ Presence matters more than hours. Back-to-back meetings are not a badge of honor. ➡️ Sharing your own mental health journey is not weakness. It's how resilient teams are built. ➡️ “We take better care of our phone batteries than our mental health batteries.” Time to change that.Where to find David Ko:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/daveko/ Calm: https://www.calm.comBook: Recharge: Boosting Your Mental Battery One Conversation at a TimePodcast: Recharge (available on major platforms)Connect with Alisa! Do you feel a constant pressure to optimize every aspect of your life? What if hyper-optimization protocols actually do more harm than good? The glorification of hustle culture has given many of us the nagging feeling that no matter how much we do or accomplish, it's never quite enough.Living in a cloud of frantic, urgent, reactive energy can even cause us to lose sight of who we are and why we're working so hard. If you want to reclaim your time, energy and purpose in life, you need to rebel against cultural norms and conditioning that does not serve you. You'll be in good company. Studies have shown that no matter their field or area of expertise, peak performers share a unique characteristic: they take time for complete rest and recovery. So when was the last time you created space for rest, or experienced the unexpected joys of under-committing and doing nothing for a minute? If your identity is in any way defined by over-achievement, hyper-optimization, perfectionism, or an obsession with productivity, this episode is for you. And listen, I may be behind the microphone, but I'm just as guilty of all of this tomfoolery as the rest of you!Today, we're here with Israa Nasir, a New York City-based psychotherapist, author, and the founder of WellGuide—a digital community for mental health awareness. Israa's new book, "Toxic Productivity" is strong medicine for anyone who's ever felt the pressure to be constantly busy, constantly achieving, and constantly proving their worth. In this episode with Israa, you'll hear:Why hyper-optimization protocols often do more harm than goodWhy chasing and achieving the next big win can eventually lead to feeling more empty and disconnected than ever beforeHow to break free from the constant pressure to achieve and optimize every aspect of your lifeHow to build meaningful relationships in a hyperconnected but lonely worldAnd much more…One quick note. Israa recorded this from a hotel room in the middle of her book tour, and her wifi connection was low-quality and dropped a few times, so we did our best to cobble it back together. Apologies in advance for any audio or video issues. Our discussion centers on the idea of "food sobriety," exploring body listening, detoxification, understanding what nourishment is, and personal needs. This episode could also be called “Cannabis: The Good, The Bad and The Mysterious and if you tune in you'll learn:The Good: Why colors seem more vibrant, why time moves more slowly, why so many musicians say they find more space between notes when using cannabis. The Bad: We explore the evidence linking cannabis to psychotic illnesses as well as the paradoxical evidence showing that ultra-high doses of CBD reduces some psychotic symptoms. We also explore the evidence between lethal car crashes in states that have legalized -- and why this is not a reason to continue the prohibition. The Mysterious: Many topics of interest here, but one of great interest to me: why so many of us need less cannabis to get high as you age.And finally, for all of you who have always wondered if cannabis does to humans what catnip does to cats, the answer is revealed within!

However, the skin is the body's largest organ and it does in fact serve a crucial function, in fact many, and it is intrinsically connected to everything of which it houses… the gut, the kidney, the intestines, the lungs… It is all connected and today’s episode really dives into how some of those connections can result in skin problems such as eczema. In Today’s Episode We Cover:Why skin creams and steroid solutions cause more harm than goodWhy eczema is really the sign of a dysfunctional immune systemImportant myths and misconceptions for the families and friends of those that suffer from eczema***Join the Facebook Group Here (formerly HH4H): https://bit.ly/IntermittentFastingForHealth***--SOCIAL MEDIA--REBECCA HUGHES BHSc (Nat) CFMP SCU NHAAWebsite: www.melbournefunctionalmedicine.com.auInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/melbournefxmed/--Here is the Bristol ‘poop’ chart: https://www.webmd.com/digestive-disorders/poop-chart-bristol-stool-scale--MATTY LANSDOWNInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/mattylansdown/Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/matty-lansdown/Join the Facebook Group Here(formerly Health Hacks For Humans):https://bit.ly/IntermittentFastingForHealthWebsite: https://mattylansdown.com/--Got a question? Embedding sustainability into organisational culture is made possible by empowering the individual. According to Terry Cecil, the same is true of creating sponsorships that are ethical and sustainable in every sense of the word.In this week's episode, the president and chief executive of the International Sponsor Council makes his case for a sustainability professional being at the heart of each sponsorship team from the very inception of a project. That way, the sponsor can make sure it does a good job of aligning its brand values and business ethics with a sports property. There are three ways brands can approach sponsorship opportunities, he explains: (1) If it aligns perfectly, sponsor it, (2) If there's a gap in values, work together to fix it, and (3) If values are polar opposite, move on and don't risk your brand reputation. It's within the second approach that the most positive impact can be achieved, says Cecil. Brands, he adds, must tackle the important issues – gender pay inequality, carbon footprint, plastic waste, social justice, and athlete health – and find, in a partner, the right entity to solve those problems.Sponsorship is no longer just about exposure to consumers. It's about doing good for those consumers.During the episode, Cecil explains:Why sustainability executives should be at the heart of sponsorship decisionsHow sports entities can leverage the experience of sponsors to do social and environmental goodWhy sponsors should be involved in sustainability research

In nature, flowers exist for reproductive purposes. But, for humans, they’ve been a source of awe and inspiration for centuries. For Georgia O’Keefe, they were her ever-generous subjects. In “A New Earth,” spiritual teacher and author, Eckhart Tolle, writes: “When you are alert and contemplate a flower, crystal or a bird without naming it mentally, it becomes a window for you into the formless. There is an inner opening, however slight, into the realm of the spirit.” The giving and receiving of flowers has traditionally symbolized love and a positive gesture towards intimacy. But, as with anything that is produced en masse, the floral industry has negative implications on human health and the health of our planet. So, the next time you go to the bodega, or the supermarket or even your local florist to buy flowers, I invite you to ask - where have these come from? That mystery is revealed this week during my conversation with Elena Seegers, a designer, botanist and florist, and an advocate for slow flowers, a movement started by florist Debra Prinzing for people who are interested in supporting local, domestically-sourced flowers. In this episode we discuss the dark side of imported flowers, why most conventionally grown roses don’t have a scent, the little-known, but toxic monopoly that is floral foam, the slow flower movement and the leaders of sustainable florals who are making a difference, and how to shop for flowers in an ethical way. You’ll also learn why Valentine’s Day is actually the worst time to buy flowers. This conversation blew my mind in the best way and I know you’ll appreciate this knowledge the next time you have the power to choose what and how you buy flowers!QUOTES:“You have to be a very peculiar person to work with flowers and not be fundamentally nice.” - Elena Seegers“If you have a band around the center of the world, that’s where most of the floral production happens.” - Elena Seegers“If you want a peony in January, they all come from Australia.” - Elena Seegers“Scent is costly to a flower in that it takes a lot of energy for it, so that the more a flower smells, the less long it will last.” - Elena SeegersConnect with Elena Seegers:Le Fleuriste WebsiteLe Fleuriste InstagramConnect with The Our Nature Podcast:Follow Our Nature on InstagramSign up for the Our Nature Newsletter: www.ournaturepodcast.comRESOURCES:New York Botanical GardensDebra Prinzing’s Slow Flowers PodcastMaterials for the ArtIn Defense of Plants PodcastPreston BaileyGarbage Goddess InstagramPsychology Today: Why Flowers Make Us HappyEmily Thompson’s Sustainable FloristrySHOW NOTES:On growing up in a small town in Southwest FranceThe story behind the creation of her blog - Le FleuristeHow an internship at the Ritz turned Elena away from traditional floristryBotanical Agency - Elena’s artistic practice working with plants on an exhibition-type basisAn introduction to the Slow Flower MovementWhat’s floral foam? In this As One podcast series, we talk about why organizational alignment matters. If the organization or team that you lead is not aligned around specific, critical issues, your experience is going to be a rough ride. In this episode, we talk about the value of your team being specific, clear, and aligned around why you do what you do. In their classic work, Built to Last, Jim Collins and Jerry Porras recognize that healthy, enduring organizations are incredibly clear on the fundamental reason they exist. Know Your Why If your team lacks alignment around the reason that your organization exists, you'll see a lack of unity and direction. Ultimately, a lack of alignment yields a demoralized and unmotivated workforce. Your team may be functional but will never be highly productive. Compelling Vision Your team wants, actually needs, a compelling vision. What are you doing to make the world a better place, even if only for a small group of people? A compelling ‘why' is the thing that encourages team buy-in. People want to feel that they are a part of something larger than themselves, something that offers significance for their investment. Passion is easily lost in an organization without a significant reason for your team to participate in the vision. Money is Not a Good ‘Why' Some organizations exist solely to make money for the principals and shareholders. Unless you have a remarkable profit-sharing plan for your team, this is probably not going to be the kind of vision that gets them out of bed in the morning. Making money is simply an indicator of success, not a compelling reason for existence. Vision Statements Are Not Marketing Tools Your marketing department can't craft compelling vision statements; they can contribute, but your “why” has to be more than a marketing tool. It must represent the heart of your vision in order for people to give themselves to it with any measure of integrity. Questions to Ask Yourself and Your Team A couple of questions should help jumpstart your “why do we exist?” conversation: What can we do to make the world a better place? And, for whom are we making it better? What is possible while staying within the boundaries of our greatest strengths and passions? Possible Categories Exemplary Client Service: We exist to make the world better for our clients. Industry Specific: for example, hospitality. Disney exists to offer individuals the ultimate in guest hospitality. Greater Cause: I have a client whose professional endeavors helps them create excess wealth that feeds causes. Near and dear to their heart is a desire to make the world safer for children without parents and victims and targets of trafficking. Community: I helped a client define the following 'why' for their organization: “We exist to improve the communities in which we work by implementing proven environmental solutions that protect human health and the environment, and encourage sustainable social and economic development.” Employee Benefit: Some companies exist to create extraordinary cultures and opportunities for their employees. Barry-Wehmiller is an exceptional example of this, and Bob Chapman tells their story is his book, Everybody Matters. Wealth Creation: This is not typically compelling for your team members, but if this is your vision, state it clearly. People need to know what they are buying into. Coming to alignment is not a fast-food type of encounter—it takes time to define and clarify. The process is messy as ideas are introduced and debated. Give yourself the gift of time and effort to create critical alignment. It will save you time, drama, and confusion in the long run. --- If your organization is suffering from a lack of alignment, connect with me for a free, complimentary conversation about our organizational health process. It won't cost you more than 30 minutes of your time to find out if some feedback would be valuable for you and your team.   Connect with me on social media! Direct message me on Instagram or Twitter. Whatever has the story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff got to do with covert narcissism? Just who is that troll under the bridge in the story? In your story?Let's take a look at that in today's episode of Save Your Sanity.Sad that any one has to live under a bridge, for sure. No doubt about it, the parents of a covert narcissist taught them how to do it. That's how they survived their childhoods. Unfortunately, those are the only strategies they currently have, and so....under the bridge!Covert narcissists love to live under a bridge, have a sad story to tell, and offer to "gobble you up" when you don't meet their needs. Today, I'm using this story to help illustrate how crafty covert narcissists are, how they hide in wait to pull you under! How they are lying in wait to make you wrong!Dr. Craig Malkin wrote that: "What's different about covert narcissists is that because they're introverted, they don't advertise their inflated egos." They may not advertise, but they still sell you that bill of goods. Are you feeling guilty that you can't make things right or good for someone who seems to never want to feel better? Are you exhausted from trying to show someone that they matter, and it seems they don't want to see it?You could be with a covert narcissist...or, maybe, you were raised by one. For sure, today is a good day to see what's under the bridge, and refuse to cross any more!HIGHLIGHTS OF TODAY'S EPISODE:Why your heart goes out to people who are "takers"What covert narcissists do to make you feel as though you're never doing it enough to make them feel goodWhy their constant stories of "it's not fair" or "no one ever gives me a chance" need to stop playing on your heartstringsHow covert narcissists use passive-aggressive behavior to pull you down, and pull you under the bridgeWhy you're only valued for what you can give a covert narcissist, never for who you areI hope this help you see that more clearly. This episode was recorded live before a small audience when Andy & Keith got together during a panel at the WashingCon gaming convention. First Keith talks about trouble he had when he couldn't get a sandwich, and Andy talks about trouble he had when his vintage car caught fire. Andy tells a few stories from Burning Man, then gives Keith a box of old cassette tapes for him and Jenn to listen to as they drive around in their vintage camper. He also gives Keith a mix CD he made of his favorite They Might Be Giants songs since after their first six albums. Then Andy tells some more Burning Man stories, including getting to ride on the Sensatron art car to the big burn, and Keith tells stories about DragonCon. Near the end Andy also mentions that Doctor Who Fluxx is at the printer, and Keith talks about the season finale of Game of Thrones.Note: Special Thanks to the Dragon's Demise podcast for providing audio services for this episode!Additional Note: Here's the TMBG playlist Andy mentions during the show:1 Doctor Worm (Severe Tire Damage)2 Operators Are Standing By (Long Tall Weekend)3 Bastard Wants to Hit Me (The Spine)4 E Eats Everything (Here Come the ABCs)5 Brain Problem Situation (Cast Your Pod to the Wind)6 Can't Keep Johnny Down (Join Us)7 When Will You Die (Join Us)8 You're On Fire (Nanobots)9 The Darlings Of Lumberland (Nanobots)10 Oh You Did (Why?)11 I Am Invisible (Why?)12 Definition of Good (Why?)13 Or So I Have Read (Why?)14 Elephants (Why?)15 So Crazy for Books (Why?)16 I Am Alone (Phone Power)17 Erase (Glean)18 I Can Help The Next In Line (Glean)19 Madam, I Challenge You To A Duel (Glean)20 All The Lazy Boyfriends (Glean)21 Another Weirdo (Dial-a-Song - Single)22 Instant Fan Club (test mp3)23 Emily Messner (ringtone)
