Also, don’t forget, we have until 21st May to vote for the TV Choice awards! We hope to see many must-see moments when Shonda Rhimes delivers her spin-off series of a young Queen Charlotte, Lady Danbury, and Violet Bridgerton! Who doesn’t want to see how these naughty ladies become the influencers amongst the ton?Chris Van Dusen had announced that he will continue to be the showrunner for season two, but Bridgerton veteran, Jess Brownell, will take over as showrunner for seasons three and four. It's a strange sight every year; one day campus is all but empty, and the next day it's bursting with life. Saturday was Move-In Day at the University of Guelph as thousands of first year students moved in to their dorms, made new friends, and got their first taste of adulting as they began their academic pursuits (whatever they may be). As per usual, CFRU spent the day broadcasting live to air from Branion Plaza, which is the open area just behind the University Centre's north entrance. It's a great perch to watch people as they head to the U.C. for a snack or coffee, or head to Rozanski Hall for some opening day festivities, or head to the University Bookstore for school supplies or a souvenir. In lieu of the usual Guelph Politicast this week, we'll replay my hour-long set on CFRU last Saturday, live from Branion Plaza, and live-to-air on CFRU. Abdul-Rahim Abdulai from the CFRU show FoodFarm Talk co-hosts as we share O-Week remembrances, changes to campus, and the importance of getting involved on campus and taking care of yourself physically *and* mentally. Along with the on-air stuff, which you might have heard already, there's some special edition material that you may like to hear as well. After the CFRU shift, I took a microphone around campus to talk to some of the people milling about including O-Week volunteers, first-year students, and at least one parent with bittersweet feelings about leaving her child at the U of G. So let's go live-ish to Move-In Day at the University of Guelph on this week's Guelph Politicast! We’ll be back to a regular episode of the Guelph Politicast next week. Thanks to everyone that gave a couple of minutes of their time on Saturday, and to those who stopped by the CFRU tent in Branion Plaza to say "Hi" or to learn about volunteering with the station. The host for the Guelph Politicast is Podbean. Find more episodes of the Politicast here, or download them on your favourite podcast app at iTunes, Stitcher, Google Play, and Spotify. Also, when you subscribe to the Guelph Politicast channel and you will also get an episode of Open Sources Guelph every Monday, and an episode of End Credits every Friday.

In a constantly changing publishing world, two writers and authors have managed to sustain thriving careers. Today, we'll find out how they stay ahead of the game. First, Joseph Olshan returns to discuss how he drove the publishing path for his tenth book, Black Diamond Fall, without an agent, and whether or not it is a direction he would continue to go in. Joseph is an award-winning author of 10 novels and is the editorial director of Delphinium Books. He will be appearing at University Bookstore in Seattle on October 18 at 6pm. Later, from videogames, to audio dramas, to science fiction, to the first in a new thriller series with his new book Nomad, there is virtually no writing genre too big for James Swallow. Today he'll share how he approaches writing a game differently than, say, a novel. James is a British author and scriptwriter. A BAFTA nominee, Scribe Award winner, New York Times, Sunday Times and Amazon bestseller, he is the author of over 45 original books and tie-in novels, along with numerous short stories, audio dramas and videogames.
On the heels of the MeToo movement comes Pure: Inside the Evangelical Movement that Shamed a Generation of Young Women and How I Broke Free. Linda Kay Klein shares how the system of mind-and-body shaming works, showing the connection between purity culture and rape culture, and the importance of facing your fears and standing up to sexual shaming. Linda is the founder of Break Free Together, and has spent over a decade working at the cross section of faith, gender, and social change. Inspired by the actual disappearance of a student at Middlebury College and the vandalism of the nearby Robert Frost Homestead, Black Diamond Fall is an evocative portrait of love between a younger and older man. Author Joseph Olshan joins us for part one of a two part conversation today to discuss this latest in his line of riveting mysteries. Joseph is an award-winning author of 10 novels and is the editorial director of Delphinium Books. He will be appearing at University Bookstore in Seattle on October 18 at 6pm.
Caitlin Luce Baker from University Bookstore in Seattle joined Chad and Brian to talk about the "Little Miss Footnote" section of Dubravka Ugresic's Fox. They touch on Dorothy Leuthold, Vladimir Nabokov, and much more, including a very subtle weaving of references that you'll definitely want to tune in to learn about. You can watch the video recording of this episode on YouTube, and while you’re there, subscribe to the Two Month Review channel and stayed tuned for the next broadcast--Tuesday, September 4th at 10am--which will feature Ryan Chapman (author of Conversation Sparks: Trivia Worth Talking About and several other ventures) and will cover the final section of the novel. As always, Fox (and all the previous Two Month Review titles) is available for 20% off through our website. Just use the code 2MONTH at checkout. Feel free to comment on this episode—or on the book in general—either on this post, or at the official GoodReads Group. Follow Open Letter, Chad Post, Brian Wood, and Caitlin Luce Baker for more thoughts and information about upcoming guests. And you can find all the Two Month Review posts by clicking here. And be sure to leave us a review on iTunes. It really helps people to discover the podcast. This week's intro music is "We Don't Have a Sail but We Have a Rudder" by El Ten Eleven, with the theme music of Life with Mikey serving as the outro track. (Please check out the trailer for this Michael J. Fox movie. It's . . . unsettling. The early 90s were a time.)

Jun 04: Brendan Kiely’s Tradition May 16, 2018 High school English teacher Brendan Kiely was always on the hunt for books that would not only excite his students to learn the skills needed to study and practice in class, but also inspire them to think critically about their role in society, developing who they are and helping form their beliefs. Award-winning author Kiely explores the insidious nature of a traditional boarding school in Tradition (is not an excuse). Brendan is a New York Times bestseller whose numerous awards include the Walter Dean Myers Award, and Best Fiction for Young Adults by the American Library Association twice. Later, Dr. Edward M. Hallowell turned an eye inward towards his emotionally complex upbringing, using it to build a successful life and career. He chronicles his childhood inspiration in his new memoir, Because I Come From a Crazy Family: The Making of a Psychiatrist. Dr. Hallowell is a bestselling author of over 20 books on attention deficit disorder and emotional well-being. He is founder of the Hallowell Centers for Cognitive and Emotional Health, one of which is based in Seattle. His national tour brings him to University Bookstore in Seattle on June 15th.

We had a week full of SFF events. First, we saw Daryl Gregory reading at University Bookstore. He had a fun way of conducting his Q & A, plus he also read from his newly-released novel Spoonbenders. We also attended the Locus Awards, including the Friday evening readings from Carrie Vaughn and Connie Willis. We both read two more Hugo finalists for Best Novelette: “You’ll Surely Drown Here If You Stay,” by Alyssa Wong and “The Jewel and Her Lapidary,” by Fran Wilde. We loved the complex magical rules and intricate politics of Fran’s story and the western desert magic of Alyssa’s tale. Dave watched The Girl With All the Gifts and compares it to the novel. (Remember, we talk details of everything, so spoilers in this and every episode!) And hey, Moana is free on Netflix. You’re welcome!
