Do you find that the pressure of your daily work zaps your energy and ruins your mental clarity? If so, you may have an aversion toward the processes, structures, routines, and systems that are needed for emotional regulation. An ungrounded sense of self, imposter syndrome, and self-doubt can funnel people into a scarcity mindset which can cause many fears that affect business. Loraine Van Tuyl, PhD, is a licensed clinical psychologist and shamanic ecopsychologist who offers sensitive souls and intuitive empaths who are overwhelmed by modern-day life tools they need to protect and funnel their energy into the structures that support their biggest visions and missions. In this episode of Solopreneur Money, you'll learn how to ground yourself and ground your energy so that you can boost your productivity. You will want to hear this episode if you are interested in... What is a soulpreneur? [3:12] Loraines entrepreneurial journey [7:10] Making sure you don't become a longer, stronger caterpillar [17:32] How Loraine created her own cocoon [22:21] How to ground your energy to boost your productivity and your life [26:10] Check for disharmony and imbalance [32:25] The money questions [40:12] How did Loraine become a shamanic ecopsychologist? Loraine grew up in the rainforest of Suriname, a small country in northern South America. Growing up, she had a hard time managing her emotions and often got caught up in others' conflicts. As an empath, she had trouble articulating her emotions. She understood that she felt more aligned in nature, but she suffered energy imbalances that took decades to identify and heal. She thought that studying clinical psychology would help heal her own energy and emotions but quickly discovered that wasn't the case. That is when she began to incorporate shamanic work into her studies. After spending decades healing herself, Loraine was drawn to help others come into their own alignment. She now uses energy healing to help empaths and other sensitive souls clear their energy and make the most of their lives. Loraine's why Loraine feels that the mystery of nature is the wellspring, gold mine, and holy grail that we've been after in our quests, big and small, for centuries, and that it's been hiding right under our noses and we keep ignoring its sirens and wisdom. She senses that the time of reckoning has arrived and we're all being called to step up. She believes that only by rediscovering our true nature and sharing our buried gifts with one another we will be able to leave the world in a better place for our children and future generations. What is a soulpreneur? As you listen to this episode you'll hear Loraine talking to soulpreneurs, notice this isn't the same as the word solopreneur that I use. Loraine's reference is to people such as writers, artists, teachers, and people interested in improving energy. Energy and soul have roughly the same meaning in this context. These words reference the spirit and the spiritual which brings to mind the meaning, the wonder, and the magic of the sacred. Soulpreneurs have an interest in promoting these things. Soulpreneurs look to align the mind, body, and spirit. Are you a soulpreneur-solopreneur? Are you taking aligned action or blind action to further your business? Learn how to stay aligned with your true self. Listen to hear tips on how you can start a practice of grounding yourself by reconnecting with something that you've already done. By giving yourself space and grounding yourself you'll learn how to transform your fear into courage. Chances are you've seen headlines like “I quit my job”, “I left my 9-5”, “How I quit my 9-5 and traveled the world” , “How I quit my job and started a 6 figure business”.. I myself have even shared a few like that and I've actually lived this reality a few times, but that doesn't mean that it doesn't just sound like the new “thing to do” or a new trend. Most of the time people leave out the not so glamorous things about this type of decision or transition. They gloss over truths that don't sound good, and they leave the reader with an unbalanced and, frankly, unrealistic view SO I want to give you the no bullshit version of this new “trend” and hopefully these tips give you the insight to be able to make an honest decision with yourself to decide whether quitting your 9-5 is actually for you!Follow @aikabella and @sw4friday to keep up with me daily and spend any feedback, collaboration requests, or questions to info@stopwaiting4friday.com!All of my exclusive content can be found here.https://www.stopwaiting4friday.comHave more questions about my journey and need help with yours?Click this link to schedule a call with me so I can answer any of the questions you have. Do you ever feel like you have a million things piling up and instead of figuring out a way to handle everything you just want to crawl into your bed and hide? And even though you love your job, all the daily responsibilities just feel like too much? That feeling of being so overwhelmed you would rather just not do anything? That feeling is called burnout and yeah, we've felt like that too. What is Burnout? Burnout is physical or mental collapse caused by overwork or stress. And if you own a business or are working towards your creative dreams, you've probably already experienced it. Burnout isn't good for anyone and it's our goal to make sure you avoid it. Or if you are in it right now, this episode will help you dig yourself out of it! Our Experiences Sarah - I used to find it hard to say no to a lot of things, and truthfully still struggle with this. I was putting everything and everyone before myself, and trying to give 100% to each of those situations. But this easily overwhelmed me and eventually I just wanted to lay in bed and watch Netflix all day because I couldn't handle it all. It took a long time to come out of because I didn't know what to do! And while I was trying to figure this out, I was letting my client work and everything I was committed to begin to suffer, which I absolutely did not want! I had to start finding ways say no and let go of trying to do everything for everyone. Shaunae - When I first went full-time with my business, I thought I had to hustle ALL THE TIME. Like if I slowed down, the world would pass me by. I put business before everything else and my personal life suffered. I became so fixated on all things business and didn't have a structure in place of how to exactly handle everything smoothly. I knew things needed to change. You Can Overcome It! Avoiding burnout is a huge part of self-care. Like we discussed in our Healthy Habits episode, it's so important to put boundaries in place. It's okay to say no to things. It's okay to let things go. It's okay to only focus on the essential tasks right now. Bottom line, it's okay to take care of YOU first then focus on your business. She dove into her first pregnancy with a plan: she would have a natural birth and breastfeed her baby, as the research suggests. Her employer was supportive, agreeing to a shifted schedule when she returned from maternity leave. But nothing went according to plan. And later, when she returned to work, Tamsen discovered she had a new boss who wasn’t okay with the predetermined agreement. “Once you’ve been through a series of things that are so defying of … what you thought you could handle, it resets your horizon—higher, broader, better.” Today, Tamsen shares her challenging parenting journey, admitting that having her sons ‘knocked her sideways.’ I ask her how pregnancy and motherhood prepared her for entrepreneurship and why we have such a narrow view of what it means to have children. Learn how the divorce made Tamsen a better mom, and listen in for her take on doing the ‘right thing’ as a parent. The birth of her second son presented its own set of unexpected circumstances, and having kids exposed cracks in her marriage. Tamsen made the difficult decision to leave, but the resilience she gained from surviving those challenges, and the support of her second husband, helped give her the courage to take the leap into entrepreneurship. Today, Tamsen Webster is a sought-after keynote speaker, ‘idea whisperer,’ and message strategist. She helps people and organizations like Verizon, Ericsson, and Disney uncover and communicate the power of their ideas. Tamsen also serves as Executive Producer of TEDxCambridge, one of the largest locally organized TED events in the world. Today’s guest is an Emmy award-winning media producer and pioneer for female entrepreneurs. I met her back when I was super pregnant. She helped me promote When She Makes More and I’m so happy to now be able to give her the stage to share with the world all the good work that she’s up to, Natalie MacNeil is here. She's the author of two very successful books, most recently, "The Conquer Kit: A Creative Business Planner for Women Entrepreneurs" and "She Takes On the World: A Guide to Being Your Own Boss, Working Happy, and Living on Purpose." I love that, “living on purpose” and her website, similar to the book, SheTakesOnTheWorld.com, was recognized by Forbes as a top 10 website for entrepreneurial women and was also featured by Forbes Woman as one of the top 100 websites for women. From Natalie, I learned where she invests her money, specific stocks and why. Taking her lemonade stand on the road as a kid and how she turned her little blog into a multimillion dollar business, what was the tipping point? For more information visit www.somoneypodcast.com.
Gloria is known for her leadership as a momentum strategist, author and speaker. Her first book, BYOB: The Unapologetic Guide to Being Your Own Boss, became an Amazon.ca best-seller in Entrepreneurship and Self-Esteem. Today, Gloria pours her wide-ranging experience into her own company, Wedge15. Together with her Co-Founder and husband, Ricardo McRae, they consult clients from Toronto to Trinidad on how to build strategy and momentum into their projects. Fun fact, we also recorded this episode a little while back before Gloria had this beautiful little boy named Keon. Congratulations to them for the baby boy and their TEDx on Collaboration that got released a few weeks ago. In the episode, we literally break down how an entrepreneur or a creator can start building a team, the mindset associated with it and the experiments you can conduct. Also, you will hear Gloria' story and the power of collaboration and what that means to her relationship with her business partner and husband, Ricardo. Connecting The Dots - When Something's Gotta Change Maybe It's You
I had the pleasure of meeting Gloria and her husband Ricardo at the Starting Point Entrepreneurship Conference at Saint Mary's University in Halifax this February. Gloria is a remarkable young woman who has done all of the things that you are "supposed to" do to notch success in this life. Then finding that unfulfilling struck out to spread her message and carve her own path. Gloria earned her B.A. at McGill University and an M.A. in International Affairs from The University of Toronto. She speaks four languages fluently, is a regular Huffington Post columnist and a HuffPost LIVE commentator. You’ll see her in the media too, from Rogers TV to Chatelaine Magazine, Glow Magazine and CTV. Her first book BYOB: The Unapologetic Guide to Being Your Own Boss became an Amazon.ca best seller in entrepreneurship and self-esteem in October 2013, less than one month after publication. In this episode we talk about playing with the possibilities. We talk about desire mapping vs. goal setting and growth through experimentation. Gloria shares some of her habits for success. We also discuss how to overcome that negative noise in your head when you set out on a new adventure. We talked a lot about philosophy and left enough room to have Gloria back on a future episode to talk more tactical strategies. I really enjoyed this one and I hope you do too.
