In this episode of the Perfect RIA Podcast, Matthew Jarvis is joined by Ted Jenkin to discuss the high-stakes world of mergers and acquisitions in the financial advisory industry. They expose the gap between self-proclaimed M&A "experts" and those with genuine deal-making prowess. They highlight how proper negotiation tactics can transform a mediocre deal into a goldmine—and why having a professional negotiator in your corner might be the best investment you'll ever make. They tackle the uncomfortable truth that many advisors don't actually know their practice's real revenue numbers (hint: it's probably not what you think). Matt and Ted also challenge the common wisdom of waiting until reaching a specific size before selling, warning that this "someday" strategy could leave you with nothing but regrets and missed opportunities and reveal that many financial advisors are missing a crucial opportunity to add value during their clients' business sales—a process that's far more complex and emotionally charged than most realize. Brother Minh Luong was raised in Laguna Beach, California, and went to NYU, where he read a book that changed his life. "I realized recently that there really is no separation between the practice and everything we do in our daily life. Either we're creating conditions for a practice space, like an internal practice space, or we're taking conditions away. Are you ready to finally have more time for your family and for yourself? In this episode of Private Practice Success Stories, I sat down with Samantha Taylor to talk about how she started her private practice as a way to get more balance in her life to have more time to focus on her son and create advocacy for other children like him. Samantha is the owner of Olive Speech Therapy located in Rochester, New York. She, along with her husband, have two incredible, creative, and fun-loving boys. Back in 2009, she received a Bachelor of Arts in Communications with the dream of becoming a journalist. During that time, she welcomed her first son and his bilateral profound sensorineural hearing loss. Needless to say, she had to quickly re-evaluate what she actually wanted to do with her life as both a mother of a Deaf child and as a professional. It was through her son and his early journey that she learned about the amazing world of speech pathology and how remarkable it could be not only for the child but the family, as well. She wanted to offer that knowledge and guidance, as well as be a shoulder to cry on and be a person to celebrate the milestones and progress with. When her son was a year and a half old, she took what felt like a leap of faith, and applied for Ithaca College's Speech-Language Pathology Master's Program and was accepted. She has worked as a pediatric SLP in a variety of settings since May 2013. In 2021, she took a (second) leap of faith and stepped into what was once just a far-off dream by opening up her own private practice. Through her experiences as not only a mother of a child who receives related services but also as a related service provider, she has learned so much about what it means to advocate for her own child and the children of others. She has learned the value of providing a safe space for people to express their fears, hopes, and dreams for their children without judgment. She has learned the importance of connecting with people not only as a professional but as a human being. In Today's Episode, We Discuss:How Samantha got started with her private practiceHow she built her first websiteWhy Samantha focuses on advocacyA typical day as a private practitioner The importance of being able to slow downWhy private practice can help prevent burnoutWhat's next for Samantha's private practiceWhen it's time to make your first hireI hope you loved this conversation with Samantha. I love how she created her private practice with balance in mind so that she has enough time for her family and herself too. SLPs and OTs are so giving. But when you give everything you have to others all the time, you burn out. Starting a private practice makes it easy for you add in time for the self-care that you need.If you want to learn more from Samantha, make sure to visit her website and follow her on Instagram. I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did. We explore how Ciara's journey from giving massage at the age of 6 into being a fully fledged bodyworker. Always moving, always massaging, Ciara now is an essential part of Body College Galway. She is also a very experienced yoga teacher across lots of styles and formats. She shares how honouring hidden movements and gestures can supports biodynamic practice.Things happen around Ciara, not least setting up a vibrant health centre as a destination venue outside of Galway. One really valuable element of the conversation is hearing how Ciara's complete commitment to being a great bodyworker helps her clarity in her work and draws clients towards her.Clip 2: 'If I'm standing at the edge of a cliff, my physiology is completely different than if I'm lying in the middle of a field. The way we brace and hold our bodies when we don't feel safe is really tangible.Cliff side, everything in me is contracted and I'm aware of every little bit of wind and I know where my feet are and I'm contracted. I'm wired in that moment. And then the other one is much more languorous, much more slow, very aware of a wholeness and environment. So how do we support people when they walk in to go from these contracted states, which are possibly long term, and then to bring them to softer, deeper, more relaxed states in their body?I feel I do this through communication, connection, contact. Just that sense of giving people permission and mapping and supporting them to feel their bodies. Often in the world that we live in we override and ignore, and then eventually we don't even know how to connect with our bodies.'Clip 1: 'Suddenly a totally random new idea will emerge that will meet this client in this moment. And I'm like, you know, I have this idea, how would it be? And we'll explore something together. That's the magic for me in craniosacral, is that there is this wild creativity in relationship, in safety, that can emerge. The relief in somebody to be so met and so held. This is fascinating to me. I'll work for days and weeks and suddenly I'm like, oh yeah, one of these moments is emerging and suddenly the magic of that moment or the wildness of that moment emerges. And I, I love it. I love it.' Bio: Ciara Ni Dhiomasaigh has trained in many forms of bodywork. It has been a life long passion to touch and to move. She trained in Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (BCST) in Karuna with Franklyn Sills and Katherine Ukleja. Ciara is an essential part of the Body College teaching team with Steve Haines and Josef Steiner in Galway. She runs a thriving BCST practice and also teaches yoga. Ciara has a vibrant world wide community of yogis who do a daily 20min yoga class on YouTube. She is also a massage therapist, tango teacher, farmer and sea swimmer. She lives in Connemara, in Galway with her dogs, hens, ducks, and geese surrounded by wild and beautiful nature. She grows all her own vegetables and lives with her partner Josef Steiner, also a craniosacral therapist. “I learned concept called a trade off. And it's this acknowledgement that when you choose one thing, you are leaving another thing behind. Often in life we're faced with trade offs all the time, all day long, you can drive yourself crazy obsessing over trade offs. But at the end of the day, you've got to ‘decide'; the Latin root meaning to ‘cut away'.You've got to choose the life that you want to live and take the path that represents the best trade off for you. It's difficult. I struggle with it myself; wanting to evolve my situation to the next level. It's a constant struggle every single day and waking up and having a routine is certainly helpful. I know it's something that I can do to better incorporate more of the things that I know will get me to the next level. And I know exactly what it is and intuitively I have ideas in my head and I'm sure you do too.And anyone listening knows the experience of having these ideas in your head is like, ‘Oh, I should probably do that in the morning. I should wake up and meditate. I should journal. I should write that book I have in my mind'. But then carving out the space and time is tough.I empathise with anyone on the struggle on the creative path. And I have infinite respect for anyone actually putting it together and sharing what they have with the world in a courageous way, finding the will to carve out that trade off to create and share with the community to try and improve the world.”Episode #86 of The Hope Initiative with Case Bradford. This weeks guest is Case Bradford, an energetic 31 year old based in California and Based in the truths of life. There are two ways to build a business in real estate. One, you can build a practice which you can grow, but then it dies when you decide to leave. Or, you can build a business which you can also grow and integrate processes and systems in it so that it will continue to thrive even after you're gone from it. If you want to build a business, you need to decide which way you want to go and how you want to do it. Then you need to choose if you want to do this by yourself or do it with someone who already has a team. Whichever route you choose to take, don't let your fear of failure take over you. Because in order to grow and be successful, all it needs is to have the courage to take the first step. Brian Charlesworth joins Bobby Moats and Erin Leff of The Moats Team at Keller Williams as they talk about the difference between building a practice vs. building a business, what the Moats Mastery training is all about, the value of building an ISA team, and so much more. Top Takeaways: 06:37 What does expansion network mean? 07:27 What is the key to their team's growth? 09:53 The problem with hiring high-producing agents 10:37 Why the Moats Team highly prefers new agents 12:33 The single most important investment you can make 13:57 The hardest shift for most real estate business owners 17:13 Why top Rainmakers should figure out a way to get out of the day-to-day production 19:03 What does the Q1 numbers say about our current real estate market? 21:26 What should a real estate business owner do to stay ahead of the game? 23:50 How did the Moats Mastery Training came about 36:06 One of the challenges in building an ISA team 42:10 What the Onward Faster podcast is all about 46:28 Bobby and Erin's last piece of advice for anyone who wants to build a real estate business Get in touch with Bobby Moats and Erin Leff bobby@moatsteam.com erin@moatsteam.com About the guests: Bobby Moats is the Co-Founder of The Moats Team at Keller Williams and is the Director of Agent Labs for the KW Labs Team at KWRI where he works closely with KW Agents, the tech team, and Leadership to define and expand the agent lab experience, as well as to promote the agent lab discussion. In this episode hosts Rose Tillis, MD and Andres Hernandez, MD talk to Drs. Ilya and Mark Leyngold about leaving academic medicine to open a new private practice.
Money is the lifeblood of every business; it's the Qi. And an acupuncture practice can not ignore the basics of business. The main focus of a Chinese Medicine practitioner is to deliver holistic care to patients – in essence creating a safe space to share the medicine. But if you're in business for yourself, you have to come to terms with the idea of exchanging healing services for money. Running your own clinic is grounded in nature's fundamental relationships of exchange; of creating and sharing value—which is a concept that underpins capitalism. In this discussion with Eric Grey, we get into the nitty-gritty of making practice work from a business and clinical standpoint. We discuss some of the snags to watch out for when going into business and running a practice. Additionally we focus on the importance of due diligence and conscious planning, adapting to your stage of development/business cycle, and having an exit strategy. The good news is the whole process can help season us into resilient professionals. Listen into this conversation on running a successful practice, working through conflicts, tending to operation issues, dealing with uncertainty, and how capitalism can be a beneficial force in your practice and community.
In this episode, we discuss how to build your own practice routine, what the process looks like, and tips for being successful. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/our-trumpet-life/support
