Sunny California, The Least Sensible Place in the World, has just passed a law raising the minimum wage to $20 an hour. This, you see, will give more money to low-wage earners. That was their theory, anyway. Cold Reality paints a much more tragic picture of what happened to a Foster's Freeze out there in THE REAL WORLD. With the first pick...

Despite the market being down substantially this year, bouncing around inside of bear market territory, it's been a bit of a challenging year for long-vol traders. Simply put, the Vol spikes we've become accustomed to getting with a down market haven't materialized as much. While the retracement of vol on bounces higher in stocks has remained. it's hard not to think, "What is going on?!' And that's why we're putting Wayne Himelsein, CIO at Logica, in the 'Vol' seat to share what he's witnessed in 2022. In our final episode of 2022, Jeff and Wayne delve into a variety of topics like; the lack of Vol sensitivity, contagion risks, and feedback loops, digging into Logica's straddle strategy, paying for long-term exposure, problems with machine learning, and is there enough data for machines and quants to work with when it comes to volatility? “I learned concept called a trade off. And it's this acknowledgement that when you choose one thing, you are leaving another thing behind. Often in life we're faced with trade offs all the time, all day long, you can drive yourself crazy obsessing over trade offs. But at the end of the day, you've got to ‘decide'; the Latin root meaning to ‘cut away'.You've got to choose the life that you want to live and take the path that represents the best trade off for you. It's difficult. I struggle with it myself; wanting to evolve my situation to the next level. It's a constant struggle every single day and waking up and having a routine is certainly helpful. I know it's something that I can do to better incorporate more of the things that I know will get me to the next level. And I know exactly what it is and intuitively I have ideas in my head and I'm sure you do too.And anyone listening knows the experience of having these ideas in your head is like, ‘Oh, I should probably do that in the morning. I should wake up and meditate. I should journal. I should write that book I have in my mind'. But then carving out the space and time is tough.I empathise with anyone on the struggle on the creative path. And I have infinite respect for anyone actually putting it together and sharing what they have with the world in a courageous way, finding the will to carve out that trade off to create and share with the community to try and improve the world.”Episode #86 of The Hope Initiative with Case Bradford. This weeks guest is Case Bradford, an energetic 31 year old based in California and Based in the truths of life. Hey everyone, Today we are actually going on a walk! We haven't done this since our 2nd episode, but today was a nice day out and we figured it was time to take it back to the roots. So we walked to the store and talk about what we are looking forward to in the summer, how growing up feels, the change in social media due to TikTok & Covid, and our thoughts on Linkedin as a "professional" social media platform. Summer officially starts on June 20th, which is next Sunday! We are excited but also dreading the extreme heat that we have to deal with here in California. Maybe we will hit up the beach sometime. We also reflected on how we used to look forward to summer in our youth, and how that is changed now that we are adults. Then we really wanted to know if short-form content (less than 1 minute) is here to stay. The beginning of Covid marked the era of TikTok. It was already on an upward trajectory, but the lockdown accelerated its growth. Now more than ever, people were stuck at home consuming massive amounts of content, the easiest being TikToks. This also lowered the barrier to entry, which means there were more creators and consumers to enjoy the content. IS this just a moment or are micro contents here to stay? Lastly, Linkedin has completely changed our professional lives. It is a powerful networking platform, and it also allows you to showcase your skills and services. It is like a free landing page that allows you to be found, connect with others, and establish authority. You can see us walking the streets of Porter Ranch in Sunny California, we hope you enjoy & We will see you in the next one :) Recorded on a GoPro Hero 7, and Rode Micro Go.

"The Luckiest Girl", chapter 1. It's high time for some Beverly Cleary (who famously inspired Judy Blume's writing), so we're riding a jetliner back to 1958 – the year of hula hoops, Auntie Mame, quiz show scandals, and Shelley Latham! Jody briefs us on world events and inventions, while Alison reports on music, movies, and TV. They also chat about Beverly's life, literary works, and achievements. In the novel, Shelley pulverizes some roses, pleads for a dirty rain slicker, and decides to break out to Sunny California! PS – Thank you to Blume Head Marlene for her wonderful letter, and to the neighborhood kids for that fireworks display outside Jody's window. PPS – Please excuse Jody's terrible audio. We were having some problems.

20, She Was Coquette Martine Jean is a Haitian-American filmmaker, producer and podcaster. She has spent time in Florida, and practiced law in Ohio, but eventually gave way to the warmth of Sunny California, where she now calls home. Martine knew her mother. She even lived with her at one point in her life. But it was as an adult in the U.S., and not as a child in Haiti. Martine did not experience the nurturing side of her mother (Veronique) like others were able to. Every Mother's Day, Veronique's friends reach out to Martine and share their memories of Martine's mother with her. This sounds like a kind thing to do, however Martine has to live with the knowledge that her mother had the ability to be nurturing to others and not her own daughter. Despite this daunting knowledge, Martine is free. She's free because she has forgiven herself and she has forgiven her mother. "It is what it is," and what it is is not Martine's fault. She has created a successful career in L.A., a feat in itself. She exhibits features of her mother daily, in her taste for coffee and her usage of perfume, both of which continue to be helpful in preparing Martine for a hard days work. Martine shares some insights on how her job as a producer has changed, and what challenges Covid-19 brings to the world of reality TV. Martine's podcast, Film Bug, explores film producers and their experiences, it's a must-listen for an inside look at some of your favorite shows and movies! HAPPY ST.PATRICKS DAY!!!! We are watching a movie that was treasured in our youth, "Darby O'Gill and the Little People," A classic Irish yarn of an elderly man and his adventures in trying to outwit his Leprechaun neighbors, and starring a young Sean Connery. In spite of being set in the Emerald Isle of Ireland and filmed in Sunny California, with voice redubbing that was difficult to get over, there was still plenty to enjoy from this charming Disney movie.Email: disneychannelsurfers@gmail.comSpotifyInstagram

Today’s podcast features none other than Paula Shugart, who is the beloved president of the Miss Universe organization, as every fan of the pageant knows. With more than 30 years of experience in the television industry, Paula Shugart has been a driving force in entertainment television production for domestic and international audiences. As president of the Miss Universe Organization (MUO), and producer of the Miss Universe, Miss USA and Miss Teen USA pageants, Paula oversees all business transactions and is responsible for the production of the live, worldwide telecasts each year.Paula’s father was an Admiral in the US Navy, and she says her childhood really helped to prepare her for her current role as the president of an international organization. She believes that her global travels left her with a deep appreciation and understanding of the world’s cultural diversity as well as its commonality. But, as much as she loved being a “Navy Brat”, when it came time to attend college, Paula says that she just wanted to go someplace new…without a Navy base. She had grown tired of living in a coastal city like San Diego and just wanted to live in a location that was different and challenging. She found that new and different place in the Midwest. Paula chose Ohio University, which consistently ranks as one of the top schools in the country for television communication. Paula graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1981, with a BS in Communications, focusing on journalism and production, which was absolutely the right career path for her.In 1982, after finishing college, Paula packed her bags and headed from Ohio to the center of television production: Sunny California! After only five days in Los Angeles, she met Kevin Bright (who was the Executive Producer of the TV show “Friends”) and he gave Paula her first big break, and that meeting began her career in production. From 1982 to 2002 Paula was busy making quite a name for herself, and success seemed to come naturally to the Admiral’s personable daughter. She was based in Los Angeles and developed a specialty in live television production while working on some of the world’s largest productions: the “Academy Awards,” “American Music Awards,” “Golden Globes,” “International Rock Awards,” and “President Clinton’s 50th Birthday Celebration,” among many others. She also served as a producer on the original talent competition, “Star Search” for seven years, as well as a multitude of other programs including the Lifetime Special “The Age of the Female Icon,” which garnered a Cable Ace Award nominationPaula became so accomplished at handling the monumental task of producing major events that she got involved in the music industry. Paula was involved in producing two legendary artist’s television productions: Madonna on her “Blond Ambition Tour” and the Rolling Stones on their “Steel Wheels Tour.” And, if that wasn’t impressive enough, she even forayed into the world of daytime television as Supervising Producer for ABC’s talk show “Mike & Maty” and then went on to produce the pilot for the highly popular “Donny and Marie Show” for Columbia Television. Paula is an active member of the Director’s Guild of America and the Producers Guild of America and has served as a Commissioner to Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s Latin Media and Entertainment Commission. She was also named a member of the Women's Leadership Board at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government. This was an especially relevant and important accolade for Paula, as her election was based on her professional accomplishments and demonstrated commitment to women and girls. To learn more about Paula Shugart her work with the Miss Universe organization and beyond, listen to this week’s episode. Today, we go to the state of California and talk about Lawrence Bittaker and his despicable "Murder Mack". Also, I decided to try and find a loser of a killer that shared my name, and boy did I find one....Stanley Baker. Not only did dear ole' Stanley like to kill, but he enjoyed indulging in his victim's bits and pieces, including taking fingers with him for a little something to just "snack" on during his travels...(finger food, anybody?). I hope you all enjoy this episode, and I am VERY sorry it is so late, but work has been very demanding. All that I do ask is will you PLEASE leave a review and rate our podcast. We ae really wondering if there is anyone out there (besides the three) that even kinda likes our podcast. We get NO feedback or interactions with any listeners and I am just wondering what are we doing so wrong?!. Also, please tell a friend, or please share us on your social networks, so that we can grow. We really love making this podcast, but from our meager listener numbers, it seems that maybe we should just quit and no one would miss it. And, if you have ANY feedback, comments, suggestions, or just want to say hey, please do so. You can email me (Stan) at jeru@badintheboondocks.com (mailto:jeru@badintheboondocks.com) . We're talkin' TRUE FIRE, airbrush techniques and future projects with Mike Lavallee!Renowned for his TRUE FIRE airbrush technique which has revitalized the automotive art industry, the artist, Mike Lavallee, traces his roots to sign painting. Graduating with a degree in Sign Painting from Boston's Butera Art School in 1979, he would not work exclusively on bikes until after attending his first rally in Laconia, New Hampshire. It would become weekend event that would permanently change his life. It sparked what would eventually become a lifelong endeavor. Immersing himself in a decades long trek he would travel the motorcycle circuit as an artist until choosing to settle in the Pacific Northwest. In 1999 he opened his airbrush studio, Killer Paint, in Snohomish, Washington. After several successful collaborations with Chip Foose of Foose Design, Mike was introduced to a unique market of enthusiasts with an unquenchable appetite for fast rides and custom paint jobs. Sunny California was set ablaze when Mike's signature flame jobs burst onto the scene, instantly branding his technique a hot commodity. A friendship with Jesse James of West Coast Choppers landed Mike his first spot on television. Appearing as a guest artist on The Discovery Channel's, "Monster Garage," was an exciting experience. Mike attributes a significant portion of his success to both Chip Foose and Jesse James. Chip, in particular, has been a major component in the exposure of Mike’s distinctive TRUE FIRE technique.Since his appearances on Monster Garage, Mike, has since been honored to participate in TLC's wildly popular "Overhaulin'" and "RIDES"; shows he credits for their publicity of his TRUE FIRE technique. Mike has poured over 25 years of his life into his artwork, making it his primary focus, second to none. It's been a journey from one end of the country to another, some times being far easier than others. Along the way he's touched lives, inspired awe, spread smiles and lived to the fullest. In Mike's words, “What more could you ask for?”ABOUT KILLER PAINT - The custom automotive industry has never been the same since Killer Paint has come onto the scene. (Listen to audio here)I had many discussions about creating media with my family this past week during my visit to the cold East Coast of the United States of America. What we always decided was to always go through the motions of creating and not to worry about what will come of it.I had at least one coffee every day there. One cup was not from Starbucks. It might as well have been, except it was in downtown D.C. where we sat inside at a cramped table with a giant wall-window view of the street-corner intersection. We watched men and women walk by in P-coats as taxis almost hit them when they crossed the street so they flipped the taxis the bird.I always take the lid off the to-go cup so the coffee has time to cool before it hits my lips. The froth was rippling on the surface of the drink more than I had ever noticed. Swirls of small paisley patterns whipped fountains of steam into the cool room temperature. When we left, the fahrenheit of the coffee was low enough that I was able to chug it down so we could enter the Ford Theater to watch "A Christmas Carol."
